Initial reaction to a musical episode was "Eehhhhhh" but turned to "...but then again John Barrowman singing and dancing, hmmmmm", then all the way to "music by Benny and Bjorn? You bastards, I'm in."

@@billywhizz09 Benny and Bjorn have done quite a lot of music outside of ABBA. They've done quite a bit for the stage, including the musical Chess (and it's hit, "One Night in Bangkok")
The one line #11 (Matt Smith) said that will forever cement him as one of my favorite Doctors was when he exclaimed, "Dinosaurs On a Spaceship!" with absolute delighted glee on his face. It was SUCH a Doctor thing to say! Super old dude still able to view the universe with childlike wonder. That's what Matt Smith brought to the character (right from the beginning in Amelia Pond's kitchen) and that's what I'll always love about #11.

Yeah it’s one of those roles that, after a certain actor puts their own spin on it, you can never see anyone else being that character.
It’s kind of like how we now know that Will Smith turned down the role of Neo in The Mattix. After seeing Keanu Reeves as Neo, it could never have been anyone else.
I think if they had cast Kate Winslate as River Song then she would probably be a one-off character, because I don't think Winslate with her movie carreer would have this much time in her schedule to appear in more episodes.
Not to mention even if she was free she would have been an extremely expensive hire considering the fact that she’s a famous oscar winning actress
A Torchwood musical? Wow. Yeah, I would have loved to see that. I'm sure John Barrowman would have loved getting to make that, but all the other actors would have hated it.

Given how goofydoodles the plots can get, I would not be surprised if River Song had to be the Fairy Godmother to someone. I mean, heck...the Eleventh Doctor literally became the ghosts of past, present, and future to a version of Scrooge.
she's said about various cases of wizards in stories turning out to be the doctor so its not really "out there" to suggest that River has done some kind of fairy godmother scheme. also, we saw at one point she pretended to be cleopatra so what other kind of identities might she have used?

Well, there was the musical/opera episode of 'Xena' that was much better than I would have expected it to be.
And Ulvaeus and Andersson (from ABBA) had created the musicals "Chess" and "Mamma Mia", so they've had some success at it before. Now, let's see a musical version of 'Space Battleship Yamato' first (kind of like the musicals of 'Sailor Moon' and "Revolutional Girl Utena').
Owen would be the one character unaffected because he hates musicals with a passion.
If anyone's interested: Wilhelm Reich was a real person, and he was Sigmund Freud's pupil, albeit the wacky one Freud disowned somewhat (as opposed to Carl Jung). Cloudbusting was inspired by a book called A Book of Dreams, by Reich's son Peter, about their relationship and Reich's treatment by the FBI. I'm not going to say whether or not it's actually possible to induce rain with an orgone gun, but I don't think they should have thrown Reich in prison and burned his books.
It honestly doesn't sound too far-fetched for the Doctor to have married a fairy godmother on some other planet at some point. I wouldn't be surprised, considering all the other dalliances
Even as an American, I think if anyone could make a Torchwood musical work, it would be the members oof ABBA.
While I *love* the 'ABBA-fication of Who' concept, I have to point out that the two 'B's were the driving force between one of my all-time favourite musicals, 'Chess', which did brilliantly world-wide, so it actually could have been IRL-great as well as crazy-great...

I like the idea of Kate Winslet in the show, but not as River. I have something of a relationship with Alex Kingston going back to ER (a very young cousin thought I looked like Dr. Greene; I don't, but she insisted on calling me by that name, and Dr. Greene married Dr. Corday).
I didn't know any of these things, so good job, Jacob. Good video all around.

I the second original series, there was a story called Planet Of The Giants, where the tardis did rematerialize on Earth in miniature form leaving your travelers to a host of situations that a regular sized human would not necessarily encounter.
Kate Winslet isnt actually wierd at all since a decade prior Trek already ran with that idea. Guinan was very much the Trek equivalent since Whoopi was huge at the time and the creators were more confused why a big name wanted to be on their meager sci fi show

I really wish we had seen more of the subwave network. My favorite part of series 4 and it's finaly was how big the group had gotten. Of course he still had his main companion but on top of that he had Jack, Martha, Sarah Jane, Torchwood team, unit and Donna's family all on earth ready to help him. It all felt so much more connected knowing that whenever he returned to present day earth he could run into old companions. We did get a similar thing when Vastra connected people through a dream but Clara and River were the only big characters. I just wish we had seen more of Martha and Jack meeting and helping the doctors older regenerations. It would have kept the world more connected. Now whenever the doctor loses a companion or regenerates it feels like starting from scratch but in Tennants era we always had Jack and Martha to keep in connected.

Funny enough, she wouldn’t have been the first Oscar winner on Doctor Who. Several Doctor Who actors had been nominated through the years, but the very first academy award winner to be on the show was Peter Capaldi in 2008’s The Fires of Pompeii. He won an academy award in 1995 for Best Short Film.
Later, Olivia Coleman, who played Prisoner Zero in 2010’s The Eleventh Hour won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2019.
If Torch would the musical did happen, we would have talked about it like the timeless child.

Ok, so this was 2007, BAO 3 was released (a very folky, brass band-esque album indeed), and they were likely working on Mamma Mia the film (which was a year away from release) and their absolute hit single Story of a Heart!
Benny and Bjorn did the title song for The Visitors. Until I learned about its underlying meaning of Russian dissidents, I thought it was about Frida being abducted. It came across like the Barry abduction scene in Close Encounters.

Ellie, please can you help me with this question that has been going round in my head for years. Doctor #1 had a granddaughter (Susan). As far as I can remember there is no reference to a Wife or Daughter? . The first reference to a wife is when #11 and River get hitched (as far as I can remember, but I am getting old) please help, not with me getting old but with this conundrum I have.

I'm extremely relieved that Harriet Jones not Elton Pope was the face of the Subwave Network, that would have been beyond Horrendous 😮 His character annoyed me right from the very beginning before he got dodgy with the paving slab.... 😮🤢 On the other hand, Torchwood the musical, I cannot for the life of me picture Owen merrily singing away 😂😂😂 Fascinating compilation this, and thank goodness too for Alex Kingston over Kate Winslet, she wouldn't have been right for River Song ❤

Disney may own the design of that specific fairy godmother (the one in blue in cinderella) but they don't hold copyright on the term fairy godmother or the concept overall. Just that specific design.
