EBay makes that amount in 1 second...they'll be OK😂😂
Facts
Seriously … they’ve made almost half of that off JUST ME in last 4 months
🤣😂🤣😂
that isn't the point, Beckett fucked up and it shouldn't have ever been labeled that in a slab. eBay's guarantee SHOULD have caught this, but the slab was legit.
@BoriPops I bent over and took it for ebay? Lol in this situation everyone was a moron in my opinion. The buyer for spending that much, ebay for their fake verification and Beckett. Sounds like you do alot of bending over
Seller got a killing here. $1 Red marker + $10 MJ metal base + $15 becket grading = $23,000.
We don’t know it was that seller, could have been sold multiple times like that for all we know. Whoever did it though did make out huge.
Beckett fucked up on this one. Ebay took the L for the team.
EBay DOESN’T do this for less expensive cards! I bought an Ohtani Chrome xfractor RC PSA 9 last year and it arrived as a Prism refractor, eBay authenticated. Ebay told me too bad so I had to deal with it through my credit card.
they did it because of the bad press... small fish like you and me don't get the benefit..
It’s $400+ cards
Chump change to eBay. It's to boost their reputation 💯 and make Beckett look like trash 🗑
I had a pair of Kobe2 shoes rejected that I actually bought for my son from a reputable sports store when they came out..no faith in their second hand grading
How in the world does a card like that get past eBay?? That is crazy
Wouldnt BGS be the bigger problem? since they are the grader! Ebay just checks the info and thats it.
eBay is like stock x . They’ll authenticate fake items
I buy and collect NHL autograph cards, I mostly buy from ebay sellers. I get the odd card, not authenticated. I keptvthe cards, to keep them off the market.
Ebay did the right thing. 23K to eBay buys them credibility on the $2.5 Billion revenue for Q1 and $438M profit.
Another reason why BGS is a joke of a company
Craziest part is there is a real life connection between the original buyer and seller, has all the signs of a scam they pulled on eBay.
Nice love the selling tips. I’ve been paring down my collection because it had become too unfocused, so many different areas during Covid, many can relate I’m sure.
I had Beckett mislabel one of my MJ cards recently. It was a parallel that they labeled as a base. I caught the issue while they still had the card. Reached out several times trying to get them to correct. Never heard from anyone at Beckett whatsoever. The card ended up being delivered to me with the wrong label.
It was a low level card that ended up grading poorly so I didn’t stress it.
But it’s alarming that customers are catching their mistakes, alerting them about it, and they don’t care enough to even respond.
What’s the point of using a grading company that doesn’t care about being accurate with what the card actually is.
When you get offered big money for a card you sell it. Sold a Zach Wilson on card auto /25 for 1k his rookie year. I could get that same card today for $35
I like beckett grading they're usually really consistent their elite stuff is harder to get then psa10
As someone who left the hobby 2 years ago then came back recently I’m loving the prices and steals I been getting on the bids! Most of this stuff I’m getting was unthinkable 2 years ago
It took me less than 5 minutes to determine that that card was an absolutely - without question - a fake. And all I had was video and photos of it off of the internet.
It really makes me question the quality of the people being hired to grade these cards. And the seller is a big actor trying to play coy and cooperative. But they are obviously a scam artist who doctored this card and got fortunate that it passed through all of these channels without being penalized. Again this speaks to the sloppiness of Beckett, eBay, and the buyer (in that order). Unless the seller can prove that they bought that card in the same forged state it’s in now from someone else. But I highly doubt that’s the case.
I agree with Geoff. This is going to encourage more scammers to try this because the seller eventually was allowed to be paid (even though it’s obvious it was a scam on his part.
Beckett should have split the payments with eBay so they didn’t have to double pay.
100% policy change coming.
Telling people with a straight face that you only authenticate the slab and not the card is not taking accountable.
We want an authentic card, not an authentic $15 slab.
Another thought on your reselling tip portion of your segment…..
Y’all used to be amazing at the education side of the hobby.
If you showed and talked about how to get a card LLC setup and basic processes on how to get tax free certificates, track cost basis and how to account for proper taxes would help the hobby tremendously and get younger resellers thinking like a real business.
Who mass produced Jordan rookie counterfeits? I remember being at the shows and guys getting out their magnifying glasses. Those were spread out all over the country I believe. I won't send a thing to BSS or PSA ever again and its been that way since 2007. I have some stuff i would like grafed but NO THANKS....
How come?
@@moronsaltable I have my own reasons but there was some posts several years ago on blowoutcards that may still be hot topics. I haven't gone there for awhile but someone was onto something huge. Still have my own reasons besides that.
Buying graded beats buying damaged raw cards
@@ut_sportsfan I like damaged cards though. Especially vintage. I'll take a 52 Topps Mantle any condition, any day. Of course it wouldn't hurt if it was a 10.
I have a mislabeled PSA Ripken FF card. At least I believe it’s mislabeled. I believe it’s the common version, however it’s labeled as a rarer version and comps over $400. I wouldn’t sell it as the higher priced card when I believe to be mislabeled. I bought it from someone a long time ago, for about what it comps at in the common version.
What's it labeled as?
We caught a seller on ebay taking base Marvel Cards, coloring them with a highlighter and labeling them as PMGs. We did a mass reporting to eBay in the Marvel Cards Groups and a lot of the listings got removed. eBay still allows the seller on their site....I blame eBay
I think the Volpe would probably sell for like $25-40k range so definitely take the $150,000 in a heartbeat lol
Honestly how did someone buying a $23,000 card not investigate the card they are buying? It’s very obvious!
I bought a PSA 10 Nathan Mackinnon young guns rookie that was to go through the authentication process . I waited 5 weeks and when the card arrived it was in the original packaging from the seller and had not even been opened or authenticated . I tried to contact ebay but no response . I paid $39 for the shipping and the authentication . I will never purchase a card through this program again . Any thoughts ?
I've been in similar situation to this a couple times with eBay.. never for this anything close to this amount but it's good to see that they handle the situation the same no matter the $ amount of the item sold
I sure hope they paid him the tax on $23,000 too
Poor seller.
Lol jk seems seller was the scammer if he indeed submitted it
@@GymAndSun We don’t know lol it could’ve been the seller or not prob peen passed around
What does it mean for the sportcards community, nothing?
I ran into a similar issue with EBay. I bought a replica of Josh Allen rookie RPA and he had a no return on his site. Thankfully, it was only 20 or 30 dollars though… Ebay needs to step up!
I’m sure eBay will have to close down, lol. That’s like me losing 1 cent.
The scammer/seller got away.
So ebay needs to work in partnership with PSA to make sure a BGS label is real and matches their pop report?
Beckett should pay the 23k out as they should stand by their label. Just as an autograph deemed authentic has the backing of the company. There is precendence for this already.
eBay has a one time account exemption Ben would have used his. Also when it passes authentication it is a final sale.
"Ebay I guess probably didn't really have to give the buyer back their money" - this is a bad take. Ebay certainly should give back the money on a card that is falsely advertised (intentional or not). Whether it is refunding just the buyer or both buyer and seller. Their authentication process is so relaxed, the only authentication they probably do is check to see if the card is in the package. All that extra overhead and still getting it wrong.
That's sketchy if the buyer submitted the card. On of the similar situation I had was with a card I sold. It was a mislabeled PSA card that I got through a break. I was new to selling at the time and didn't know it was mislabeled until the buyer requested refund.. and from what I understand eBay did the same and sided with both me the seller and the buyer
Beckett owes eBay the money back. They OWE EVERYONE in the hobby an Apology. Then they need to re-vamp their entire grading team and process.
usually a card is alter bgs will return without grade isn't that the case? why alter but authentic? cause of high value card?
I sold my mosaic choice Anthony Richardson black gold showtime signatures PSA 10 on eBay, and they lost it. I still got paid, I’m unsure if they refunded the buyer, all I know is a gorgeous pop 1 card is missing
Anyone have a update on the cracked psa slabs? Turner said he would say something but never has?
It's just another black eye on the entire grading companies in general as they have been getting bad reviews for a long time.
When spending high dollar- check, double check, infinity check
T-pot with all ur knowledge on SP n or SSP inserts I thought u would be putting up some rare more sleeper sets like 2012-13 panini prestige playmakers look so good very simple almost like a blank slate!!! I got a Josh Smith(stupid underrated) who I pc n I love it!! Also stuff like 04-05 skybox E-XL x-ceptional got the E-XL parallel which is much more rare then the E-X version!! One more the 99-00 Fleer showcase element-ary got kobe Bryant Al n the Garnett!! Sick liking card very different then any other insert I've seen!! Uses the periodic table n element-ary get it?
Hi. I have a question i'm asking here and there. How to start my card business but what i'm intrested in is should i start big and buy and sell the biggest cards i can find and afford or maybe start slow with selling some of my collections (i collect mostly trading cards), buy boxes and sell the cards i won't need and also hold to some of them for later buy boxes like Lorcana First Chapter and keep it closed for the potential money in the future? So start big or start slow?
Great show
Not sure why we let BGS get away without guaranteeing their cards
Could the beckett person who graded it know the person who altered the card? Therefore that's why they wanted to take a second look?
That's a real ebay 1/1
Well buyer sold card. Ebay and beckett screwed up. After the buyer sent it to beckett, the had to have opened it to look at it. That's how eBay is at fault for the card. Once it's opened - sale done. Fake or not. Can't send back altered items.
Well done eBay right thing to do! This is why I’ll never grade with Beckett no accountability or guarantee
Beckett is toast, I been telling everyone to be done with them until they fix some issues. Why would anyone trust beckett to label anything?
The thing I don’t understand about the seller receiving his money I mean I get that he did put no returns but I’m pretty sure like most of us on here. We’ve all sold on eBay and have no returns on our stuff and had a case where they were able to return, and get the money back. This is a very weird story specially, with the seller getting his money I’ve been in a few incidents where high-value items get a 30 day hold regardless of your years or history on eBay and people try to return and keep the item and try to get their money back. I’ve had some customer service representatives of eBay told me an email that they don’t have a seller return policy Policies are weird on eBay and it’s making it very difficult to sell cards. I do hope they do rearrange because it makes it kind of unsafe for a lot of us. To sell online it forces us to go to these auction houses and pay their fees and commissions and that’s really going to be only on high ticket items. Now you’re 20 $50 slabs even maybe $100 slabs just hold onto them and go to shows like it’s just it. There isn’t really a safe platform. It feels like to sell cards anymore.
Mailbag for next week. The topps/panini licencing issue is ridiculous for this years Euro 24 competition. Some of the big teams like Germany, England etc don't have licence with Topps so the official stickers are all messed up with big players missing and they can't show the shirts for certain teams. Then the topps now cards for those teams they are having to photoshop the jersey's into solid block colours (see any germany topps now card). It's an absolute mess. Panini is then putting out there own stickers that have the same issue, it's ruining what should be one of the most fun tournaments to collect this year...
EBay did this because of all the TH-cam videos ! They would never had did this otherwise! I have had some bad experiences with EBay and that don’t give a 💩about there customers! Your lucky if you can get ahold of someone who you can even understand that speaks English . My guess is there insurance company bad for this and not them SMH This is why insurance is so high to start with!
Well, eBay did get the seller fee from the original sale, so they lost a little less than that... around $21,500. But don't worry, they make that much in minutes... they'll survive.
Wow now the scammers know they can sucker the authenticity company saying no returns instead of scamming with lots adding a couple of cards to the expensive fake cards 🤦♂️
FLEABAY WILL BE FINE- HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR FEES LATELY?
Ok I’m very confused. The seller got paid for his fake card? Why ?
Don't agree with dealer prices at trade night, so if you have bigger cards you would lose money on them??😠
eBay makes BILLIONS each years. Likely tens of billions - 23k is absolutely nothing to them.
Hahahahahaha this is why it’s tough to take this stuff seriously…$23K card fooled every step of verification with a red sharpie…
I would love to talk to someone knowledgeable on error cards. I have 5 error Rookie Cards of Brock Purdy, and have no idea how to value or treat them. 1 Is double stamped with Brock and Sauce Gardner and the other major one is Brock on front and TJ Watt on back. The others were more mass produced with him being WR, and missing legs, and off stamp markings... Scared to death to send them off to PSA.
BECKETT was on life support before this mistake. *unplugs*
Kudos to eBay for doing the right thing, no matter the reason.
Well considering it was fake why don't ebay go after Beckett then Beckett go after the person selling the fake?
EBAY IS OUT 46K - 23 per ebay user.
Is PSA really involved with ebay's authenticity garauntee???
I sold a card on eBay for $44 the buyer paid $55 and I got $36. Is that normal?
You see this with Topps Pristine And PSA !!!!!!!!
The guy complaining about eBay’s no return policy has obviously never sold on eBay. If you allow returns scammers will bs you like crazy
The pmg reds are not numbered then?
They are numbered
@RawJordanCardCollector so obviously it was fake them right? What am I missing lol
eBay has a one time account exemption Ben would have used his.
There's some loop holes to the no return policy. So everyone should read up first
Hey Geoff! Why does your WN channel steal cards from customers and not answer messages about the problem?
Beckett needs to take 100% responsibility. They graded it, they labeled it, and they shipped it back.
Oh no I don’t know if eBay will EVER recover from this HUGE LOSS
I closed my Ebay account. Ebay is the worst.
It's not ebay fault. Beckett fucked up and ebay made it right with both the buyer and seller.
@@kevinmaurer7806 You can''t advertise falsely on Ebay, whether intentional or not. What the seller thought they was selling was incorrectly advertised. In terms of Ebay buyer protection, Ebay should refund the buyer. Now should they refund the seller, up for debate but since Ebay offer an "Authentication" process putting their faith in Beckett I think they should. I do think these authenticators (BGS, PSA, etc...) should offer some sort of guarantee given it is a legitimate sale though as well.
Cards HQ looks dope af
Resellers are ruining the market. Why can't we just collect??
Entertaining show, thanks
Brb, going to buy some markers.
100% on the seller..
With ebay fees they get from us sellers, they’ll be fine. For the buyer luckily got his money back.
eBay should sue BECKETT
Beckett needs to step up and pay at least a portion.
@@Lokahi-fo-lifeall, eBay went out of their way to pay out to avoid buyer paranoia for cards on their site. Beckett should pay out
@@1stBowman wtf are you talking about? Your statement is full of contradictions.
@@1stBowman read your comment. “The most obvious was the right move.” Followed by, “They should have gone after the seller and recouped their money.”
If this was the right move, then that’s it end of story. Who are the cheapskates? And who squabbling? The first part of definition of squabbling is noisy, I didn’t see anyone being noisy.
Its basically free advertising for eBay's Authenticity Guarantee program, basically. $23,000 is nothing.
Ebay isn't hurting, that's pennies to them.... Next story please
I think eBay is bad for card prices and shouldn't be used.
Hey guys thanks again for the in-depth coverage of my story, I think the publicity of this saga was the real reason that I got fully refunded (at Ebay's loss unfortunately). Which is not great for other people that may be dealing with similar issues but with less or no public exposure. I will update you guys with 2 things. 1: Beckett gave me a gift certificate for their grading services as an apology for the mistake they have made, I have accepted and are working with them to get updates on when the card can be removed from the pop report. 2: Ebay has actually Attempted to get the seller to refund his money, however since it was "optional" for the seller, the seller (to my knowledge) has declined. At the end of the day, it didn't change any of the outcome, Ebay is still out 23k, seller will still make 23k, and I think that's how this whole thing will wrap up. I may post another video for an official wrap up but again, thanks guys for all of your help & support.
You did change the outcome. You should have shoved the card down the sellers throat like I suggested. You know more though which is evidently how you got scammed in the first place. You made sure the scammer got his money back. This was a simple pay pal case going above eBay. Stay away from cards if this is the type of cards you like. Try buying what you don’t like. You’re a dummy 🎊 the likes that are not likely seen.
Watch Hobby Palloza today and stop watching these clowns. I’ll show you some “precious metals”
No returns unless exchanged , misrepresented or intent to defraud the customer
When are you going to go live on whatnot
wasnt it $46k? buyer gets refunded the $23k and the seller gets to keep the $23k payment.
No bc the buyer paid the seller himself. Ebay just reimbursed the buyer and the seller got to keep his money
@@ryancoleman1 thanks! so the buyer’s payment really went through. got it.
Looks like Beckett is paying SCI for advertising…
To me this is the seller getting one over on someone using a beckett mislabeled slab. I could tell the card wasnt a pmg from a mile away. The seller plays stupid, gets paid and thats how we ended up here.
I wouldn't have been able to tell, so it's possible. You can tell because u probably have been around cards a long time
I miss the old set.
What do you mean ebay didn’t have to? They authenticated a card that was clearly fake. I don’t care what their policy says it’s called eBay authentication meaning they guarantee it authentic or should. Because that’s the definition. It’s not called eBay slab authentication
Geoff talking about others losing money. How do you think your sheep feel?
hows is Beckett not on the hook?
Why in the Hell would beckett slab a colored card?. THis is why I dont deal with beckett. They should not slab a card that has been colored.
Wait, did he call that adult man “teapot”?
When will people stop getting cards graded its just a money grab for a secondary industry
eBay did the right thing. Not much more to talk about.
