I’m new to the whole gaming pc and just bought my prebuilt. I was originally going to get a alien ware just because of how cool it looks. Something that really stands out but was immediately told to stay far away so I did though I can’t help thinking about it
The older models were not bad, I have an old Aurora R4, and that thing was built solid, never had any issues and 13 years later it still runs with no issues today. As far as the newer models the R13, R15, and the new R16 I honestly can't say how they are, probably cheaply built but then thats the nature of all things these days. But I can definitely agree and say that Alienware does use proprietary motherboards, cases, and powersupplies which can limit upgradeability as far as doing a rebuild.
I don’t understand some pre-build PC companies. I heard some even go as far as gluing parts to the case so you can’t replace them. The reason people choose to build PC’s is the flexibility with parts. These companies just play off peoples naïvety.
they don't glue them so you can't replace them. they glue them to lower the possibillity of shipping damage, even tho there are enough methods to prevent that without glue.
I own one myself and what I can tell is, that they are running the first 1,5 years smoothly without any issues. But as the time went on, I noticed that my CPU often was at 100% and I just was watching YT, which it never did before. But could mainly be cause of the only 4 cores the built in i5 has. Oh yeah and the GPU only has 6 gigs and its an RTX so yeah, I let you decide.

I got the r16 with the i9 14900KF, 4080 super, 32GB RAM, 1000W PSU, and a 2TB NVME. It was 2700. Buying all those parts individually along with Windows 11 wouldve set me back almost the same amount of money, and ive got a warranty as well. If you can save any money at all on making that build, it would be in the garbage if anything failed or if you dropped it/ spilled something on it. I dont know why yours is underclocked, and not managing heat well, but i havent had any problems. The only thing I didnt like is the case design, the r15 with the cable cover looks a lot better. I wanted current gen hardware, so i suppose compromises have to be made.
You could have absolutely gotten the price down by about 500$ through smarter part selections. Pre-builts will never be a good value, so unless you are buying for someone else never EVER buy a pre-built.
I easily just put together a PC build on PCPartPicker that absolutely slaughters that build in cost. It has identical main components (CPG, GPU, RAM, etc.) and even includes the cost of a legit copy of Windows 11 all for the low, low price of $2363.30. Your claim that "it would be in the garbage" if I saved money on that build is simply untrue. The warranties that come with a DIY build are also equivalent, if not even better (in some cases), than that of a Dell pre-built.
You've gotten a warranty? How long is that warranty? It's 1 fking year lmao. In my custom PC, my CPU has 3 years, GPU has 4 years, SSD has 5 years motherboard 3 years and the fans have 5 years warranty lol. Oh, and my PC is fully upgradable as it uses standard parts, not e-waste like Dell. Finally, if you're spilling drinks on your desktop tower, you need help.
@@panzer3279 Its 4 years, and your warranty is only good for hardware failure. Obviously you dont have kids if you think that damage protection isnt a good idea, and from the way you talk, I dont think you ever will. If you're broke just say that, you dont have to take it out on me
Depends- I got a 4090 RTX with 64GB DDR5, Intel i9, and 2TB hard drive for $2200. I could not build my own for that money. It was an eBay purchase - but I can't complain - it works great. If it breaks down and I can't repair due to proprietary parts, getting a case and motherboard to swap the parts in still saves me money.
I'm not sure I'm on board with that even. All the proprietary parts make fixing/upgrading the PC nearly impossible. Once anything goes wrong with it, the whole computer is basically scrap. The case isn't reusable (custom form factor), the motherboard isn't reusable (custom form factor), and even the power supply isn't reusable (you guessed it, custom form factor).
@@jaredwilliams8621 Not 100% true, I have so many used Alienware tower PC and I managed to upgrade them easily with new non Alienware motherboard and being able to still use the nice functionality of these funky case.
Yeah that's absolutely rubbish isn't it, two ram slots not four, no heatsinks on the already poor quality VRM, if anything they've even managed to make it worse. For shame, Dell.
The motherboard and power supply are proprietary, but how about other components like the CPU, GPU, RAM, etc. will that proprietary board keep you from upgrading those parts?
I've given up on Alienware. My last purchase was a X17 R1 laptop a couple years ago which is actually pretty decent. I've moved on to bigger, greener pastures now and bought a Corsair Vengeance i8200. At least they care about their customers and build high end PCs. Expensive, yes but you get what you pay for.
Power supply and Motherboards were Things that I didn‘t worry about when i reused the Parts from My old R14 Aurora. Kept the GPU, CPU, and RAM sticks . Got. Rid of the Stuck Fans and AIO.
This is why I always build my PCs. However I do have an Alienware laptop that’s 10 years old now and still running strong. I did upgrade it shortly after I bought it and put an M.2 drive in it. Also it is slightly upgradable. Not once did I regret that purchase and it was on sale when I bought it that kept the price decent. I did my own upgrade though because they wanted a lot more if I bought it with an M.2 drive. I also have the standard HDD that came with it as well as another 7200 RPM HDD in it, so 3 drives.
A pre built is a good idea, but the chance to make it better by choosing your part and have actually assurance that it'll perform top notch, will always prevail!
THANK YOU! Was considering buying the new model just a few days ago. So it seems all Dell did was made the outside look pretty.. still the same hot mess inside. Thank you for saving me 2600 dollars.
I got the same one, I would recommend you select the 1000 watt psu version. This will allow you to future upgrade your GPU and CPU and RAM, you can custom build, but you need to know your electronics well. The motherboard is very limiting. They use their own MB's its difficult to work with.
Have you ever stopped to think some people don't want to build a PC? Sure, a dell has a premium price, but people who buy Dell are doing it because it's a quality product with service and a warranty 2nd to none. You're basically saying a Camaro will do everything a C63 AMG will do and do something better. So that makes Mercedes a bad thing. You can get a new Alienware and push it until it melts down, and dell will send you a new one in the 1st year for free. You can kill your GPU In many ways while doing regular cleaning. With a dell, it's covered no questions asked for a year. Or for up to 5 years for an extra $150. Yes you can build a identical pc for 3 to 5 hundred dollars less ( unless you get one on sale). But then you only have the manufacturer warranty. That only covers manufacturer defects. And that will take months to get a decision. Last point. Dell does de tune its stock settings. But you can also OC your CPU and ram with dells software, and it's still fully covered under the warranty as long as you do it with dells tools.
Proprietary parts should be the only reason to stay away from Alienware. I just built myself two $6,000 PCs. One for my son and one for myself. It was fun and an extremely useful skill to have.
I spent 4gs on this a few months ago. 4090 quietest pc ive ever had. In my 40 yrs of gaming this is the best pc ive ever got my hands on. Going pre built from now on.
I tried to buy an Alienware not long after Dell bought them up because I knew the quality was going to go to shit. But, the morons tried to scam me, calling me back and telling me that they needed a photocopy of my ID to process my order. Yeah, I wasn't gonna fall for that identity theft BS. Told them to cancel my order and shove it up their ass, then called HP and just bought an Envy Phoenix from them. Replaced it last Xmas with a brand new custom rig and will never buy another manufactured PC again.
Don’t let this guy fool you lol I bought the r16 and it has been amazing the graphics are smooth (I play warzone, Apex, d2, etc) I don’t experience any lag and I run it off of my dwf and all in all it is amazing, I love it!
That's fine lol I just need something to plug in and play max settings at 1080p. I ain't got the time that I used to have to give a damn. 1500 is nothing for the 4070 super for 1080p.
In all honesty, if you want to buy a pre-built just by the individual things and then bring it to a place to make it. I looked at a pre-built specs and then put together what it would cost to buy them individually and then what it would cost for Canada computers to assemble it and it ended up (if I did it which I didn't because I was just curious), being something like 600 plus dollars cheaper. Forget about f****** Dell though. That was insane. Like going from 32 total GB of RAM to 64 GB is like an extra $600. I just upgraded my RAM from 16 GB total to 64 GB total. It cost me $215. Eleanor, looks cool. I have an Alienware r11. To f****** rip off also it kept on blue screening and I had to do a system repair myself because they couldn't figure out how to fix it. They kept on saying it something to do with the power flow which was total b*******.
Wow, crazy that a prebuilt would be less good than building it yourself?! I thought it being assembled by a 6 year old in China would’ve improved the quality rather than me building it with exactly the components I want for cheaper!
I have owned 4 ailenware pc's. I have never had a issue with any of them. My last one had i7 7820x and dual 1080 it's. And the key word what he says is 300 less. I currently have an Alienware QD-OLED 34DW monitor and it's still as bright with no degradation in color or burn in. Maybe I'm just lucky. There are better pre-built desktops and laptops but they are absurdly expensive and their pricing doesn't justify price to performance. Alienware gives you fair pricing for performance and I like the look of this iteration of the Aurora. Like I send around 180fps+ no matter what game I throw at it, if I raise upscaling to quality on dlss then I'll still around 115fps with maxed out graphics along with Path Tracing.
These companies just play off peoples naïvety.
they don't glue them so you can't replace them. they glue them to lower the possibillity of shipping damage, even tho there are enough methods to prevent that without glue.
ridiculous lol, how do you feel about acer nitro 5 laptops though?
Well they often are on huge discounts but they do have some repairability issues from my experience
@@xdark_vesselx5096 to be fair when your computer gets old you gotta replace it eventually, or upgrade it, or have a proper system clean done
When I was in high school back in 2007… I thought Alienware was the coolest thing. It’s now mostly just junk. Their new OLED monitors are cool.
dude.. I just bought it also with the 4070ti super and I9. my older PC with a 1080ti and i7 9th gen with alot of airflow was running ALOT hotter it was a heating machine, with ALOT less performance. This one plays new games at ultra 4k without even breaking a sweat.
Dell is the company that provides public schools with computers
Let that level of quality sink in
You don’t need powerful gaming computers in schools.
@@TheSjurisbut durable ones that need to at least run 2 chrome tabs without throttling, shutting down and not working for 4 hours.
Yes that is my school's
@@duck6966 business machines tend to last for years. Gaming ones need to have cooling and be more upgradable. Wouldn’t buy an OEM pc to game on.
@@TheSjuris Did i mention "game"? No, i just need it to do basic tasks and they can't even do it, and that is not even basic tasks, it is just running a youtube 480p video
@@TheSjuris "Need to have cooling", every PC needs cooling, gaming ones just have better specs so they need better cooling.
I’m new to PC gaming. Having plethora of BSOD issues with all games. The CPU and GPU have no issues, consistently maintaining lower than 30% use for both. However, I’m met with bsod every other time I open a game. Will often force-restart during games without displaying error codes.
Bro paid for the extra thicc bezels
Anybody trying to defend this build either works for Dell or is just dumb right slow😂
Big brand with crap parts, and branded special shit you won’t get outside of dell, this is why I don’t buy prebuilt from major companys like dell.
What is better quality parts? So I can do my build😊
Alienware computer are good computer... When bought used... and 70% cheaper price...
For shame, Dell.
oh crap does that mean if I want to only swap out gpu and ram on my old alienware parts to a new case things might not be compatible???
The motherboard and power supply are proprietary, but how about other components like the CPU, GPU, RAM, etc. will that proprietary board keep you from upgrading those parts?
How are the thermals from the graphic Card
1500Mhz downclock is quite significant, it also looks very basic inside the pc 💀
Did they really underclock the cpu just so they could have a little case?
that power supply uses the 12v only standard it’s a thing the mobo handles the voltages the psus that use 12v only are often in this form factor
Zotac better quality parts? Asus prime white case, the DeepCool AIO isn't even on the right way around and you're saying the Dell build is that bad?
I've given up on Alienware. My last purchase was a X17 R1 laptop a couple years ago which is actually pretty decent. I've moved on to bigger, greener pastures now and bought a Corsair Vengeance i8200. At least they care about their customers and build high end PCs. Expensive, yes but you get what you pay for.
That case is very nice though, is it possible to use it in my setup?
Miss old alienware pc. Als 41 yr old back in days thy where super.
But i do love my alienware aw3423dw.
WHAT?! its got so much freakinh venting? Why did they freaking down clock it when they already have the area for freaking cooling?!
i own it and my cpu is overheating. so clearly not enough cooling with this pc lol
Ram upgrade is limited to 1.1 V 5600mhz. you can not get 1.2 above includng 1.2
It's not extra $150 for 5 years. Stop lying. And wow for being covered for one whole year. Lol
"Dell is a quality product" -- LMAO
Ive owned a couple and they are fine honestly. Not the best, not the worst. Wait for the year end sales and you’ll do alright.
i have this pc and have no complaints or issues with it. love it to pieces
Literally all I want is the case
How much does night wear costs in us??
Wish people would understand this one is prebuild not pc with all parts from other vendors...
Damn this just shows Alienware is garbage, inside looks 10+ years old. My first custom desktop looked better at prob $500
I got this for $1200 and it’s really good.
General rule of thumb don't ever buy a manufacture built desktop PC. Especially if it's Alienware/Dell
Don’t let this guy fool you lol I bought the r16 and it has been amazing the graphics are smooth (I play warzone, Apex, d2, etc) I don’t experience any lag and I run it off of my dwf and all in all it is amazing, I love it!
Dell started a Law Suit on you
'1st Amendment - Free Speech'
Dell Left the chat

pre built no issue, business account discount is a boom :)
But hey, you get the Alienware logo
I do like the R15 case tho. I wish you could buy just the case. Pretty much all pre-built are a rip off.
I generally dont mind proprietary parts as long as theyre available for sale seperately
but this doesnt appear to be the case so. . . . . .
why is the motherboard so huge?
I have owned 4 ailenware pc's. I have never had a issue with any of them. My last one had i7 7820x and dual 1080 it's. And the key word what he says is 300 less. You are paying for the assembly and the brand. I have a i9 14900kf and a rtx 4080 super 32g ddr5 5600mhz and a 2 tb m.2 nvme drive for 2499. Just the video card and cpu are around 1600-1800. If the brand is not for you then it's not for you. No need to flame them or put them down for their builds. Also I have never seen any of my pc's from them ever under clocked you can over clock them as well.
Overclock the cpu?
So what’s a good prebuilt pc?
It just shows that building a pc your self is always better than buying a pre built company pc
My r6 is still running after 6 years... haven't upgraded it at all and it still runs D2
"always build custom pc"
-a prophet
Don’t know why they do it, they are just losing money by not spending 3 minutes fixing stupid things
theyre waiting to fix basic issues so they can call it "innovation"
So what would you recommend? I almost bought this alien yestersay
i just did it runs flawless and impressively cool for the i9 4070ti Super in there. It runs everything at ultra 4k without even heating, I don't understand lol.
@@MaximusAnonymous38 how long have you had it for? I’m thinking of the 4080 with liquid cool. It’s my first PC so I don’t know anything I been in console only I think it’s time for a change
@@SavHabitz I literally just got it, it runs cooler than my-self built 2018 rig that had Alot of fans, room and a 1080ti. This alienware runs games maxed out without breaking a sweat, I'd go for it if you got the money. The case is abit simplistic, not alot of lights and flash, but it's fine for me. @@MaximusAnonymous38 nice! I might just go with it. Going to hit Best Buy soon
@@MaximusAnonymous38it’s a tough decision with l the negative reviews.. how’s it been?
This is why you do your research. You learn how to get the most out of your system components. And you save money by building your own computers.
I did a comparison between this computer (4070, i7 13700F, and 32gb ram) and it cost about the same as if I were to build it myself. Now yes there are downfalls, but I can’t custom build, I need financing, which dell does at 0% interest. I’m 14 so I can’t afford 1800 all at once.
Dont buy that wtf...build one yourself
Now if they had just used vrm heatsinks maybe they could have put some more power in the cpu.
It’s sad because they actually look nice. Wish Dell would actually listen to what their customers want
It's sad really, i'm old enough to remember when Alienware made good PC's..... expensive, but top of the line.
I just bought an Alienware Aurora R16
Specs are: Cpu Intel 14th Gen 14900kf
GPU RTX 4090
Ram 32gb ddr5 at 5600mts
2tb ssd
My CPU is running at 3.2, which I can boost up since it's unlocked but Im fine with it.
I'm getting around 185fps in Cyberpunk 2077 with maxed out graphics with path tracing turned on at 3440x1440p. I'm getting over 180fps no matter what game I through at it, I'm very happy with R16, heat does well. I bought this rig for 3500 with taxes included.
Don't run your CPU at the default Intel specs, else the VRM on your MB will blow up within 2 years. Dell uses low quality VRMs, that's why downclock and reduce power limit.
2+ GHz downclock??? That is outrageous. No computer should have a mobo with such horrible VRMs for that processor and price.

Hahaha you guys are crazy, my system is running fine 🤣, I've owned many Alienware laptops before X17 R1, M15 R3, M18 R1 and they all work perfectly fine. Gave the first two away one to my brother and the other to my friend, both are working perfectly fine, the M18 is with my girl and she has no problems with it. Also my Aurora R16 shows no signs of glitches whatsoever, as a matter of fact no product I've bought has ever disappointed me. Like I wrote before no problems whatsoever so far. Also since the Nvidia app release, which is replacing the old GeForce app, it makes owning an RTX card even better. I'll give an update later on to see if the claims are true.
A 4090 is not doing 180fps with path tracing on at that resolution bruh
@iikeli727
Go buy one and see you gotta use DLSS Ultra Performance and frame Gen and it will get around 185, Yeah if you stick to quality with frame Gen you will get around 95 fps. Try ultra performance with frame Gen.

they have the i9 with a 4080 super for $2300 right now and I dont think you can beat that for the specs.
I almost bought an Alienware pc but in glad I didn't. I don't know anything about pcs so I ended up doing a custom build from apex which I ended up having to rebuild it myself using TH-cam videos to make it boot up.
