I loved this movie, had a great impact on me growing up, the first 2 are obviously incredible, but this brought such an insane and schlocky -in a good way - estetic - I loved the dark comedy and the pushing the boundaries. A3 was such a slap in the face of Aliens, ruining/ reducing the impact to nothing, plus looking like garbage with hardly any "Alien" in the film except some horrific CG garbage, idk how people like it at all. Alien Resurrection was a blast and a great send off. I love the evolution vs static nothingness of A3.
Definitely resurrection is way better than 3 but I feel it's still not a good movie. Like there's so many breaks In logic it's hard to not laugh at them but knowing it was dark comedy maybe those were intentional. The designs were great tho, and some good action sequences even if they didn't make much sense. Loved sigourneys performance here after the up and down performance in 3.
There is NO CGI....people still commenting on bad CGI when there was almost none...all the creature effects you would think was "bad CGI" were made using puppets on rods...
@@ailigimmo9668yes, what people refer to "bad CG" was actually the compositing of the practical puppet into the scene plates. The compositing looks weird. Alien 3 is not a great movie (maybe it could have been without all the studio vs Fincher mess) but I love a lot of things from it.

I liked this film. Call me a moron, but I can point to several well thought out concepts in it. Plus the acting, e.g. Brad Dourif, Winona Ryder, and of course Sigourney. All those "dead-end" clones were just amazing, esp. the one Ripley talks to. I also liked Dominique Pinon ("Vriess"), who reminded me of his chilling character "Cure'" in "Diva." I'm not sure I liked the end, is all.

This movie is pretty out there but compared to what came after it i'll take it, as it had Sigourney Weaver who isn't a boring A hole like everyone else in this franchise since Aliens.
I liked this movie, I was surprised to see people saying they really objected to it as personally I just never warmed to the 3rd film. The first is my favourite movie ever, such a classic
i really like this movie, but it definitely feels like its own thing. its a bit like firefly/guardians of the galaxy in terms of tone and atmosphere so its a lot more fun and silly than the previous alien films. i thought winona was great as a synthetic person and her scene hacking into the ships security is really interesting because her characterization is a lot closer to a replicant from blade runner than what we've seen from androids in the alien films, and im a big fan of anything that connects the two properties. i also really love hybrid ripley because shes a total badass with metallic nails. but as much as i love these things, they fit better in the fifth element universe than they do in the alien universe. its kinda like dr. strange multiverse of madness, its a fun shameless romp that probably has zero effect on the overall picture. alien 4 is in the corner with the avp movies as far as fan canon goes.
i feel like the only person more miss matched for this kind of movie than the director is joss whedon. I'd give just about anything to see a " whedon cut" of this thing lol. Awesome videos too btw, the quality is sooo good!!
If you ask me, Ressurection has aged far better than 3 and even Prometheus and Covenant. I think boldness maybe is not a value in itself, but in this iteration of the franchise was a huge plus, not only because of the new approach, but the feeling of raw inhumanity going along disgust. Thinking about the b movie sector, it reminds me of unsettling flicks like Men Behind the Sun. It's so much more a mirror on human practices it gets to the point of unbearable for, well, imperialist societies. IDK if back in the day (I was 11 when I went to the cinema for this one) people were aware of state funded experiments we can look into these days, like MK Ultra, forced sterilization in Puerto Rico and so on; but this feels like one of those. In the end, it's a dark movie as Alien was.
@@Rschr101 About states weaponizing animals and disease to the limit? Well, in Europe we have a long tradition of doing exactly that, and JP Jeunet has a filmography quite close to the 30’s to 50’s aesthetic. The fact I used US examples has to do with this video’s audience.
Lol Jeunet is so based for throwing shade at Whedon. I almost wish Avengers was directed by some weird auteur and Joss was relegated to scripting duties. It would make the film 100% more interesting. All in all, I love all 4 Alien Anthology films. I appreciate that each one brought something new to the table and kept the concept fresh.
This is great stuff. 7:57 Love that Jeanne Pierre quote there, and clearly that worked, because from the get go the USM Auriga feels shady and crooked AF. You just get that icky feeling that the people who are running it, in particular the vibe from the scientists being sadistic. The wicked music only compliments and amps that up. I'll always have MASSIVE respect for the underwater scene, especially because it's dangerous and has a creepy feel to it. Also, not all of the cast were comfortable with water, including Winona Rider. She overcame that. Awesome stuff, fair play. The NURBS animation is incredible. They look so good that I genuinely thought that majority of the Xeno scenes were practical... And Amalgamated Dynamics are renowned! They did the whole Thing prequel in practical and it got changed for absolute dog shit cgi. Pure injustice to their excellent work.
Is made with passion, the design of the ships is opressive, the palette is gritty, the themes of cloning with no morals whatsoever also adds to the underlying serious dark tone of the setup
So Josh ran into grumpy old men without imagination which is why this movie is slightly different. I enjoyed it and it could have been a banger when the grumpy old men were not that grumpy
I was in my teens I think 13 yo whens Aliens Resurrection came out, I loved it. Love all the Alien movies. Starved myself for a week just to buy the Making of Alien Resurrection Book and studied every part of it, I still have it. Now that I've all grown up - yea I think this movie is not the best especially the dialogue. BUT I still like it. I like the team members mixed bag of crazy people from the rasta man, to the scientists with a chest burster, to marine Tuco, Hellboy etc. The only thing I didnt like (in a good way) was the Newborn, what an abomination. To me I dont see this movie as Ripley cause she died, its a clone of her so its different. She can make out with Aliens or whatever cause to me she died, and a clone is just someone else - thats how I see this Ripley. Still all in all, unpopular opinion I know, I like this movie. I have to see it ! 😂 then i went to video store where you can borrow a VHS and i found all three... watched them... and Aliens ( 2 ) became my favorite movie. Then i cross over AVP 1 game, then AVP2 game, AVP 2004 movie and brought my dad to watch it... then AVP2 i was dissapointed... then Prometheus dissapointed, AVP game 2010 short but good, then Covenant i watched as a kino rip and it didnt even bothered me as i was dissapointed and then Alien Isolation and that thing blows my mind... best Alien movie/game ever. Then 2 days back i watched Romulus... and it was good...
Well, the most common BTS footage you see form Avatar 2's tanks tend to be when the tank is clear, Avtr2 had MANY underwater built sets that would flood, gimbal, or even be up to 25 feet deep full of mangled set. So the dangers between Alien 4s underwater sets and Avatar 2s underwater sets we actually pretty similar. (I was there for 4 years)
So funny and ironic at the time to see Walter Hill and David Giler (Brandywine bastards directly responsible for killing franchise within Alien 3 shitshow) now talking about killing the franchise by making Alien 4 xD
Thank you for making these informational videos. I have always hated the premise of this film. But WOW these practical special effects are impressive! Just wow. As a side note- I’m also surprised to learn that the French think Americans are Puritan-like. I’ve always felt like Americans were overly obsessed with sex.
Romulus was practical as well they got a 7 foot 7 guy to wear the suit for it. Bother hybrids have their merit but I personally find the offspring from Romulus to be more horror fuel
He's right. Just when we thought it couldn't get more twisted five and six get released. I understand the difficulty after part 2 but they made their bed and it was pretty comfy. My question is now that McReady and childs are victims of the thing how isn't it have the ability to kind of mimick the biological forms at a guess? Did the demo crew know that the duo nearly frozen was an issue? We're in deep in the THING 3. 😅JS
Alien Resurrection was the scariest movie in the entire franchise. That scene where the captain got out of bed and had those insane arm hairs that look like wigs attached to his shoulders genuinely traumatized me. I kept thinking no human being should be this hairy. It is just so wrong.
this sequel was far better than Alien 3 where all the side characters were dull and the setting was boring. I don't even remember a single supporting character in that one
Its very bizzare that the french director took inspiration from dark humour and B-movies, yet the studio really just had to have him because... His shooting style is unique? Even he was confused why they desperately wanted to hire him. Fact is there were many, many other directors at the time far more suited and probably far more passionate about the Alien series.
Concerned Producer: "This underwater scene... Does it add anything significant to the story and the characters' growth? Do we need to go aquatic? If not, cut it. Set it elsewhere."

No one makes videos like this anymore. Cheers to you.
I think over the years Resurrection has grown on me ❤
I loved this movie, had a great impact on me growing up, the first 2 are obviously incredible, but this brought such an insane and schlocky -in a good way - estetic - I loved the dark comedy and the pushing the boundaries.
Watched this movie on hulu today and then youtube recommends me this video afterwards lol... scary than the xenomorph really.. anyway, Ron Perlman is a treasure in this movie lol
Hey Friend, I'm unable to find your name but I just want to tell you how great your commentary on the Alien franchise is. Your work here is fantastic. I have a lot of respect for you. Thank you & Peace.
Dude your videos are of amazing quality given the size of your channel. You will blow up for sure if you keep this up. Amazing editing, historical clips/images, and research. Nice job.
@@SnackPack913 appreciate it! We definitely have some momentum going so just have to keep it up!
I always thought that the crew of the Betty was a forerunner for Firefly.
That cinematographer did Seven AND Catwoman 😂
Seven: AMAZING Cinematography
Catwoman: Pure 🐕 💩
Catwoman is one of the worst movies ever made while seven being fantastic
Like how the dude that did Jurassic Park also did Jack and Jill😂
Alien 4 was very much appreciated by me! much more intricate and horrifying than the other 4 with images and scenes that LONG stay with you
Idk if I’d called Resurrection more “horrifying” than the OG. Nothing beats Alien in terms of Horror and atmosphere.
Horrifying!? Bruh, this whole film was a joke 😂
I mean as a kid some things were kinda disturbing but never scary this movie is more ridiculous than anything the first alien was scary lol
first movie isn’t even “horrifying” by todays standards.
Just found your channel recently and so glad I did. Loving it! ❤
Welcome to the channel!
Saw it as a young teen and loved it because i sneaked into the theater to watch it. It was fun, actiony, and had interesting characters, the gore helped too. Still better than alien 3 and alien vs predator series of films.
Amazing video and information! The 4th alien is definitely a fun "so bad its good" movie XDD I see that youre making videos of the whole series- def gonna subscribe!
The most enjoyable rewatch out of the four original films
To this day I can not understand the hate for this movie. Great cast, the Xenos were absolute beasts, and the cinematography still stands out.
1-2 really built the franchise from horror to action, but 3-4 saw a massive tonal shift and loss of beloved cast.
What do you mean? Every movie had a different cast except for the Ripley character.
@@10secondsrule Every movie... Not true. You've Got Mail had no Ripley in it.
That water tank shoot looks like it was a safety nightmare
I liked this film. Call me a moron, but I can point to several well thought out concepts in it. Plus the acting, e.g. Brad Dourif, Winona Ryder, and of course Sigourney. All those "dead-end" clones were just amazing, esp. the one Ripley talks to.
I also liked Dominique Pinon ("Vriess"), who reminded me of his chilling character "Cure'" in "Diva."
I'm not sure I liked the end, is all.
Alien 4 slaps, ive always loved it as a child. Interesting to see how it came together.
I saw this in the theater when I was 15 and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and unique visuals.
Alien resurrection was a underated gem 4th favorite after Fedes Romulus, watched when i was 12,an still love 28 years later
Romulus is 💩💩💩 it gives us nothing new and drops way too much fan service. Its is basically alien resurrection Prometheus. It is pure 💩💩💩💩
I liked 4. I enjoyed it much more than 3 at the time, and more than the Assembly Cut of 3 now.
Yikes
@@Rschr101Fincher was f'ted over too much, for Alien 3 becoming what it should have been.
I'm a proud apologist for Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection! I think that they're great.
I’m morbidly interested to hear your defense of 3. I found it to be almost completely unwatchable.
Right on. I never saw Alien 3 after the first time but I want to say I loved it cuz you just gave MY Alien 4 baby some love here : (
What is your favorite scene from Alien Resurrection?
Lots of. This movie is full of visual beauty
The credits
@@Jawn..so not only have you watched the movie and didn't like it. But you now watch TH-cam videos about a movie you know you don't like. Yeah that's not weird at all.
The underwater sequence.
@@diy_mushroomguyhow come, it's not because you don't like a movie that you wouldn't be interested in the making of it
I kinda loved this film. I still do tbh.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and I wholeheartedly believe you should have more subs. Really great editing and easy to watch. Been here for a while and over the moon you’re covering this franchise. Are you going to make any opinionated videos or rankings on the series? Would love to hear your thoughts on them sometimes!
Appreciate it! It's been wild ride making these videos! I don't have any plans right now but that's a good idea for future alien films!
What's truly sensual is when Frame Voyager appears in a video without a beanie...
💀💀💀
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
This movie is pretty out there but compared to what came after it i'll take it, as it had Sigourney Weaver who isn't a boring A hole like everyone else in this franchise since Aliens.
Love this channel - thank you 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Delicious video, thank you sir
You are most welcome
I liked this movie, I was surprised to see people saying they really objected to it as personally I just never warmed to the 3rd film. The first is my favourite movie ever, such a classic
"I was worried Sigourney Weaver was gonna ask if Ripley could be pretty and have a puppy."
what a fucking weirdo
i really like this movie, but it definitely feels like its own thing. its a bit like firefly/guardians of the galaxy in terms of tone and atmosphere so its a lot more fun and silly than the previous alien films. i thought winona was great as a synthetic person and her scene hacking into the ships security is really interesting because her characterization is a lot closer to a replicant from blade runner than what we've seen from androids in the alien films, and im a big fan of anything that connects the two properties. i also really love hybrid ripley because shes a total badass with metallic nails. but as much as i love these things, they fit better in the fifth element universe than they do in the alien universe. its kinda like dr. strange multiverse of madness, its a fun shameless romp that probably has zero effect on the overall picture. alien 4 is in the corner with the avp movies as far as fan canon goes.
Saw it twice on opening day. Its not a great film but it damn sure was fun.
I always liked alien 4.
i feel like the only person more miss matched for this kind of movie than the director is joss whedon. I'd give just about anything to see a " whedon cut" of this thing lol. Awesome videos too btw, the quality is sooo good!!
@@ChuckART appreciate it! And I agree, this is not really Whedon's sweet spot. He found that with Firefly
Are you serious?😂
@@Rschr101 About states weaponizing animals and disease to the limit? Well, in Europe we have a long tradition of doing exactly that, and JP Jeunet has a filmography quite close to the 30’s to 50’s aesthetic. The fact I used US examples has to do with this video’s audience.
this alien is so silly and so much awesome, i love it
The Awesomeness that Is Continues! 👊😎✊🍁
People are insane….Alien 3 and 4 are master pieces.
" We tried to stop them from making it. " - David Giler. Good idea.
Your video here is well done, I remember watching the making on tv and no VHS tapes to record it, and you make my 13 year old me happy.
Thank you very much. I am yet to watch it.
I still love this movie 💚
Actualy, Alien Resurrection the game was the first Alien thing introduced me back in the days when i was a little kid playing it on friend ps1 i visited. Absolutely hooked. Then i saw a movie called Alien ressurection but didnt get that connection with a game..or gackground.
I told my father when he visited us on weekend that i saw a great movie and started describing those alien creatures and my father stopped me and said ,, look kid, there are actualy 3 other movies and that one you saw is the last one,, and i get like wow !
I dont blame them on the gieger front 3 didn't look like it came from his mind at all
on the road to Romulus!
3 more to go!
(I was there for 4 years)
I didnt know Danzig starred in the first four Alien films. Cool.
Alien 3 and Resurrection are sleeper hits in my book
Neither film became a surprise hit, so they don't fit the definition of sleepers.
“ Off topic , this movie is a comedy within itself “ .
So funny and ironic at the time to see Walter Hill and David Giler (Brandywine bastards directly responsible for killing franchise within Alien 3 shitshow) now talking about killing the franchise by making Alien 4 xD
Alien 3 was a masterpiece compared to this crap.
"Something for morons" sounds about right lol
Sounds like something a French asshole would say.
I like all of them. ❤
Thank you for making these informational videos.
I have always hated the premise of this film. But WOW these practical special effects are impressive! Just wow.
As a side note- I’m also surprised to learn that the French think Americans are Puritan-like. I’ve always felt like Americans were overly obsessed with sex.
I always wished that Alien Ressurection was a third movie to two previous films involving the crew of the Betty.
I kinda liked it...3/5
Still the 3rd best Alien movie. Luckily I was able to watch this in a decent theater.
😂😂😂😂
This title is amazing
Mark Hammill cameo in the softimage ad 😂😂
There's so much to love about this weird, strange movie. This has a better ending than Romulus due to the use of practical effects
Romulus was practical as well they got a 7 foot 7 guy to wear the suit for it. Bother hybrids have their merit but I personally find the offspring from Romulus to be more horror fuel
I've often likened Resurrection to watching a kind of live action anime.🤔
Crazy how they are using the Earth idea now with the upcoming Alien TV series now.
No no no no no no no
LMAO😂
I like the movie, meaning I'll re-watch it, it could use abit of pep
I ❤️ alien 4.
thanks for the alien videos, i seen them all
Thanks for watching!
Smart channel
yet i love this move
Its very bizzare that the french director took inspiration from dark humour and B-movies, yet the studio really just had to have him because... His shooting style is unique? Even he was confused why they desperately wanted to hire him.
Fact is there were many, many other directors at the time far more suited and probably far more passionate about the Alien series.
I won't say anything as to what I think of the film, but it was a fairly peculiar choice to pick him for the film.
Why was there a giant swimming pool on a spaceship?
It was actually a flooded kitchen
Concerned Producer: "This underwater scene... Does it add anything significant to the story and the characters' growth? Do we need to go aquatic? If not, cut it. Set it elsewhere."
Resurrections worse part is the newborn xeno/human abomination at the end. I hate that part.
The whole "human reproduktion system".
It was kinda cringe, but also pretty decent body horror. More shock value than the existential kind faced in 1-2, though.
Everybody hated it
