I disagree, I think it was genius to remove. We could all guess that she'd had a daughter by how motherly and protective she was of Newt. Adding it in made her later actions very predicatble.
Not to worry. Amanda learned about what happened in Alien Isolation and understood why her mother missed her birthday(s). She had closure even if Ripley did not.
It legitimately upsets me that Cameron tried to have showings of The Terminator at Pinewood to show the crew what he was capable of, and no one would bother to go see it :(
If your boss wanted to show you a reel of their previous work, you might not be all that interested too. The boss is sometimes better showing interest in his workers.
Sigourney Weaver. The most badass female character in cinema history and the heroine who saved the production of Aliens. She's phenomenal. A certified Legend.
An underrated actress, perhaps because she became famous via Sci-Fi and Comedy. Excellent as Ripley, but also nominated twice for an Oscar, once for her portrayal of Diane Fossey and also for her performance in Working Girl.
Aliens scored Sigorney Weaver a Best Actress nomination as well. I’m glad Cameron held out to make sure she was in it - I don’t think it would have done as well as it did without her.
Alien 3 is underrated. It's obviously not as good as 1 or 2, but still far better than what followed and also gave us a fitting end to Ripley's story. Fincher's mistake was killing off Newt. Hicks was badly injured in Aliens, so it's plausible that he might eventually die from his injuries, if untreated, but Newt should've survived. Fincher mistreated their characters by killing off them BOTH of them, AND doing this off-screen, which was unpopular with fans.
Politely disagree. Aliens 2x superior to Alien IMO. Cameron was the master at directing on a shoestring. Perhaps foolish to produce in the UK with the enormous amount of socialism, sabotage and jealously in the workplace. Terminator 1984 should of proved to the British the genius Cameron and his US team were and the respect they deserved.
After Aliens 2, Cameron went on to make: -Terminator 2 -Avatar -Titanic -Avatar 2 -4 of the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time. Pinewood Studios went on to make: -0 of the top 10
Cameron has a funny quote (can't remember where I heard it), but he said a Hollywood director's career usually plays out as follows: "Who's Jim Cameron ?, Get me Jim Cameron !!, Get me the next Jim Cameron !!, Who's Jim Cameron ?" Guess he beat the odds on that though.
Seems that many legendary films had serious culture clashes with Pinewood over the same reasons. They doubted Cameron and slowed his progress just like they did with George on Star Wars years earlier. Yet they happily put in insane effort and endured often unhealthy conditions during Ridley Scott's Legend. Probably because he was one of their own doing a more intrinsically British sort of story.
I see it slightly differently, yes there may have been some snobbery involved with the young american director stepping into the shoes of Ridley Scott, but Cameron and his ex wife complained so much about working in a country that actually has labor laws and a healthy work balance. By their own admission they basically tried to crunch their crew as they would in the USA and met with resistance. Crunch is completely unethical and only favors people at the top. Unpaid overtime, crazy hours no breaks etc all serve to save the production money and cheat the lowest paid people who will benefit the least from the finished product.
@@dessertstorm7476from the description in the video the crew were taking at least 5 breaks throughout the day. That’s a lot IMO. And ruining shots to take them isn’t ok either. The correct way was somewhere in the middle. Cameron had to get the film done in a certain amount of time and within budget, if filming is delayed due to several hours of breaks every day that can’t happen.
He should have done his homework about Pinewood studios and the crews there. But Hollywood is infamous for their "unpaid internships" and 20 hour working days and their creative financials where the guy who creates the story signs a deal for net points and ends up getting paid nothing because the movie "flopped on paper"
Ever since I heard that Roger Corman ALMOST made "ALIEN", I keep thinking, I bet he WOULDN'T have ripped off the writers! Crazy trivia: there's a scene in the climax of Corman's "BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE" almost identical to the scene with Dallas cut from "ALIEN" (restored in 2001). I wonder how many different stories & movies they ripped off at once when writing "ALIEN"?
The official behind the scenes doc on this amazing film shows just how difficult it was to make, and it’s incredible that it turned out as fantastic as it did. It’s a testament to Cameron’s vision, really.
Interesting how the crew didn't believe in james. Imagine trying to outdo Giger and trying to make a bigger alien (the queen) without the hindsight of how successful it would be. Then pulling it off. Lonely at the top
Without the hindsight of success is something that I thought of whilst watching this video. I kept thinking, “ why is Fox being so hard on JC?“ Then I realized they had no idea how successful it would be or how well he would make the movie lol Glad it all worked out
I'm blown away by this video. I've always wondered how the Queen was done in final scene. Just incredible. I was obsessed with Aliens at age 13. Brings me back to that❤
In June 1986 was a student film guest on the Fox lot and noticed that James Cameron’s parking space at the Art Department bungalow was taken by a Mazda RX-7 - I walked in and there were a few girls studying dozens of “Aliens” posters on the floor - asked if “Jim was here” but they nicely said he wasn’t.
Bravo! Well done. I own the Quadrillogy set which includes all the "making of" segements, which is extensive. You've brought some new information to light for me. Thank you.

1:44 Alan Ladd jr. lost his job because he had the chance to get the star wars rights back to Fox and he blew it. Fox payed for Star Wars and owned 50% of it, but they lost these 50% when GeorgeLucas (who owned the IP, production, merchandising and sequel rights) gave them the option to either give him the full ownership of the first movie or he would take his self financed sequels to another distributor. So many comments here claiming this movie is one of the greatest movies ever, greatest sequel ever, greatest action movie, and so on. I saw this in the movie theatre in 1986, and yes it was good, but since that time I've seen it on VHS (many times), then DVD, and now Blu Ray. In all honesty it hasn't aged well, and there are several things that may be a contributing factor. 1. and this is the biggie, it was shot in 1.85:1 and not 2.35:1, which would have given this a much much better look. 2. As a result of factor number 1 the image quality is really iffy in parts, especially in HD. Case in point, the rear projection shots, the stop motion shots and the very basic looking planets, stars and space station - really not good at all. 3. the dialogue in parts is so typecast and this really ages it. In my humble opinion, yes it's pretty good, and the last 20 mins are superb, but it's no match, not even close to the original which now is considered one of the greatest movies (let alone sci-fi) ever made.
The only scene that I would have kept was the Ripley stumbling across Burk. My imagination could fill in the rest. Not showing life at the facility before the marines arrived meant we only knew what they did. My imagination ran wild with the visuals of what happened before they arrived and it was way scarier.

I remember seeing Aliens in the theatre and that scene where Ripley finds out that her daughter passed away was in the cut of the movie we saw. Don't know if in certain countries they allowed certain scenes to remain in as I do remember seeing that scene in the theatre!
But Cameron got a big number in history, while the crew, who did all the hard work, is still unknown and paid poorly for their work. Why should I help someone else to get famous, while by myself staying poor?
Didn't expect to see so much criticism in the comments, lol. I do like the film but it's good to see constructive arguments against it too, gives a fresh perspective on it. It gets boring to usually see nothing but praise.
Again... No mention of Horner and how his journey to score this movie was like going through the nine circles of Hell... When did film scores become so unimportant when it's one of the first pillars of the succes of a movie...? It's a HUGE part of the post production. Especially for movies like this where Horner only had TWO WEEKS to score it. Again, interesting essay but dammit... How could you leave that out?
I put on Rambo 2 the other day, as the opening credits roll by I see… Screenplay: Sylvester Stallone James Cameron Rambo 2? Really? Didn’t know that one.
Maddening behind-the-scenes BS with the studio. Whenever I hear so-and-so bought a company, what makes me angry is, WHO sold it? If a company is doing well, the owners should NEVER sell. You hire the right people to run it for you, you don't hand it over to "money" people who have NO connection or interest other than money. People who run companies NEED to care about what they make-- otherwise, they have NO business being in that situation. Maddening that they CUT the film's time to sell more tickets-- just like STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. I always remember a letter in TV GUIDE when ABC ran the extended version, which said, "Congratulations, Paramount, for cutting out all the scenes that made the movie MAKE SENSE." Sadly, to this day, I have STILL-- NEVER-- seen the extended cut of ALIENS. (Oh well, one movie or tv series at a time...)
If you want a different take - especially Tea Time that disappeared under Cameron in the 4 hour Aliens documentary and other facts. I'm going with Cameron's public apology to the Tea Lady for buying all the tea and 'crumpets' and then throwing the whole cart over and demanding the crew get back to work. He said the department heads could go buy tea and crumpets for their departments but filming would continue. They did. So, if you like this version, you should love the other too but it's a rental or buy the Blu-Rey.

I was 12, and my older brother took me to see it. It was awesome.
Imagine what it would've meant to the studio's bottom line if Cameron had gone back to them to make any of his other blockbusters.
The last couple of aliens were really good actuon and effects wise really enjoyed the turbo in direction from prometheus
The only scene that I would have kept was the Ripley stumbling across Burk. My imagination could fill in the rest. Not showing life at the facility before the marines arrived meant we only knew what they did. My imagination ran wild with the visuals of what happened before they arrived and it was way scarier.
The success of the movie simply prove that films studios know nothing about films or about making profit.

19:53. Ron Jeremy worked on Aliens??!?
He was the first chestburster well part of him was.
I was going to post that 'hey we saw on this on netflix', but very well done video. How hilarious is it that that film guy bolted and was wanted for trading with Iran after what we found out Ronald Reagan was doing in Iran! Tons of new stuff here, I dont agree about copyright, good lord its getting impossible to even do this kind of thing any more just with little short clips.
Haha appreciate it! Yeah, I really try and tell stories from production that you won't get in other content. I like any bits of drama involved I can find!
Such a great series!
Appreciate it!
I've seen every Alien movie in the theatre. Nothing will ever come close to Alien or Aliens.
One incident. Tea trolley lady offered tea to Cameron who just glared at her.😂😂😂
Just watched it the other day hadn’t seen it for quite a while! Found it hadn’t aged too well and definitely not a patch on the original!
Aliens was bad ass. Alien then Aliens were a perfect one-two punch.
The second best of the Alien series.
I imagine if you find out that you're gonna be working with james cameron, a film you have to take combat training and learn how to fight so that way you could survive the filming process.Maybe that's why keanu reeves got really trained in case of james cameron ever called on him
I need to take a look at the incredible story behind making THIS whole ass TH-cam series
@@Longleke. 😅😅😅 I might do some YT shorts on how we make content
I remember seeing Aliens in the theatre and that scene where Ripley finds out that her daughter passed away was in the cut of the movie we saw. Don't know if in certain countries they allowed certain scenes to remain in as I do remember seeing that scene in the theatre!
The arrogance of the british staff expecting a break. What is the world comming too! 😂😂😂
The game over guy got his spine ripped out in predator 😂
Heal Boen Reese? Was he being funny or did he forget he’s actually Hicks in this? 😂😂
This is my favorite movie ❤
Dang good vid!
Your ads are insane for a 26 min video
Still need bloomkamp movie 🎥
Great vid
Appreciate it!
The Awesomeness that Is Continues! 👊😎✊🍁🍁
top 5 all time film imo
Your channel needs more love
So you're saying Fox has always been the problem with the Alien franchise
Pretty much haha
But Cameron got a big number in history, while the crew, who did all the hard work, is still unknown and paid poorly for their work. Why should I help someone else to get famous, while by myself staying poor?
2:53 so where tf the money go
Didn't expect to see so much criticism in the comments, lol. I do like the film but it's good to see constructive arguments against it too, gives a fresh perspective on it. It gets boring to usually see nothing but praise.
Masterpiece
What a great video and series. What music was used in the post-production section - 24:40?
9:11 *_These (HøIIywøød) People....._*
how come u dont have more subs....?
… Was there ever a Director cut kind of thing where all the deleted scenes were included?
Which sequel was better Aliens or T2?
T2
I put on Rambo 2 the other day, as the opening credits roll by I see…
Screenplay:
Sylvester Stallone
James Cameron
Rambo 2? Really? Didn’t know that one.
Don’t forget Piranha II
@@KBizzy I wonder if when asked at parties “what else have you done” he just mumbles those under his breath.
Yup. A lotta work.
All these issues on getting movies made....how the hell did Ed Wood pump out his movies?
If you want a different take - especially Tea Time that disappeared under Cameron in the 4 hour Aliens documentary and other facts. I'm going with Cameron's public apology to the Tea Lady for buying all the tea and 'crumpets' and then throwing the whole cart over and demanding the crew get back to work. He said the department heads could go buy tea and crumpets for their departments but filming would continue. They did. So, if you like this version, you should love the other too but it's a rental or buy the Blu-Rey.
Well done Pinewood 😂
The best thing for this franchise would be for it to escape the incompetent, yet manipulative clutches of Fox.
no bullshit CGI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The greatest movie of all time an absolute masterpiece!
George Lucas had the exact same issue as Cameron in London.
I hate horror movies but have watch all Aliens movies. What’s that about?
