Absolutely loved it. Goose pimples in parts, specially the ending. Don’t understand what people are complaining about. If this film upsets you then I don’t know what will make you happy. It’s all subjective at the end of the day but I think people except one thing and get another. Therefore rate it low because their expectations weren’t met.
Ridley Scott is insane and he definitely still has it. Working at this age and so relentlessly is legendary in itself and he definitely will keep on until he can’t anymore. I have no idea where he got the energy from, maybe he ages slower than the average person. He probably will live more than 100 years. Living legend.
just clear something up about Gladiator 1, we shot at that frame rate & shutter angle due to light also John had used it on ‘Love is the Devil’. which pre dates Private Ryan

I'm thinking the part about using blue screen has some nuance. It's the process of adding cg elements that is expensive. They may have used blue screens anyways just in case. Like they had them, it doesn't cost much just to place them. But not intending to use it if they feel like they didn't need to. That being said of course there are obvious blue screen in the actual movie but perhaps compared to the amount of practical on screen stuff it can be advertised as hardly using cg.
@@omoddulus4933 yeah he didn't go to the point of other directors and try and say it was all practical. But I just pointed them out to make sure people know, those types of things are used but they are used more as tools for specific moments for sure
Just watched gladiator II And it's actually one of the best movies of this year obv after dune 2 U actually feel like ur there in the action The set peices feel true to life Yes there are cgi sharks but they add to the story It looks amazing and story is decent Not a cash grab
For me, it was a 6.5/10 if the original Gladiator was a 10/10. I enjoyed watching it, and afterwards the original Gladiator went from a 9 to 10 because of how much better it is, even with the higher production value of 2.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. The legendary craft is evident, and I found it better than the tralers suggested. My only gripe was the multi-camera approach robs the movie from individual power. The whole movie feels like it was shot with the same set up, the close ups don't isolate.
This movie, i believe, came out the right time where the message of Gladitor 2 strongmen leaders who seek power above all else and have power without check is not the answer like the Original gladitor message
@@footballfandom7904 I've honestly wondered if it's the general pace of his film output. It just seems like a lot. I like the Last Duel film, which I know many didn't, but really his last best film was The Martian. I wish he would do more Sci Fi, I feel like he's more at home there
I do think he kind of lost the ability to recognise a good script, or maybe his arrogance is clouding his judgement. But his ability to direct a production of this size, and his visual sense have only gotten better with experience, in my opinion.
saw it last night, I feel that this film did not have any soul unlike the first one... film was ok some part a bit dragging, did not like Monkeys and Sharks. you can clearly see the difference of the film now fully Digital compare to the last one fully 35mm films
Hi, your videos are great and really informative (I especially enjoyed the one about Kubricks Napoleon), but I’d appreciate if you’d stop using AI to visualize things, but if you’re reluctant to do that at least make the disclaimer bigger. AI art is not the future.
while I appreciate the visuals, would you mind not including AI in future videos? You are a very talented video maker, and I hate to see AI images used when you have so much heart in your script.
I thought most was all CGI, shooting digital doesn't do favor to the optical Value these Days, it looked like a Series. 300 M. Dollars, building it real, sadly looks ditigal cgi when not using Film, this is insane. what a waste
There are shots that look really good in the movie and not super CGI. Lot of practical sets but obviously going to be a decent amount of CGI to cover up stuff or expand it
@@FrameVoyager You asked him to comment on this movie! In Italy we crushed it, as well as Gladiator I. It has nothing historical: the phantom general Massimo Decimo Meridio (Maximus Decimus Meridio) never existed and the emperor Marco Aurelio Antonino Augusto (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus), already sick, led the empire together with his adoptive brother Lucio Aurelio Vero (Lucius Aurelius Verus) from 161 A.D. until his death in 169 A.D. Subsequently in 177 A.D. the emperor Marcus Aurelius flanked the regency with his son Lucio Elio Aurelio Commodo (Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus) until his death in 180 A.D. We Italians know our history.
@viper6550 Since you mention a historical character that really existed Marco Aurelio and a fact that really happened: that assisted the sick emperor (Marco Aurelio, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus) first with the help of his brother Lucio Vero (Lucius Aurelius Verus) and then his son Commodo (Latin Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus) who became the true successor to the emperor's death and not the general Massimo Decimo Meridio, mentioned in the film The Gladiator, who never existed in the history of ancient Rome. It's like in the script of the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! On the attack on Pearl Harbour, the aircraft carriers Enterprise and Lexington are sunk, which is not true.
What did you think about Gladiator 2?
Haven't seen it. Might not either.
Superb
Really bad, predictable, characters with 0 depth, corny dialogue, and once the sharks came out I wanted to leave the cinema
Great, not deserving of the hate

Would rather a more focused director that do less movies but that are actually good.
I think the production was one of the best things about this movie.
Usually is with Ridley Scott films 😅
Ridley 'production for productions sake' Scott.
😅😅😅

Oh! Sweet. That's really interesting. Most articles I saw pointed back to Saving Private Ryan but I'll go check that film out!
@@FrameVoyager you should it is full of in camera effects including double exposure plus disengaged shutter & mirror.
just so you know my imdb listing is Keith McNamara

Scott and his set fire drama. Am I right?
Going back to his roots 🔥
If Emperor Nero were a director
The only thing I’ve heard its not historically accuate - there were no newspapers back then.
... What ?
I took note of the newspaper being read in the restaurant as well

i thought the water battles in the colosseum was completely cgi
Scott does not still have it. It is impressive he is still going at his age though, just the quality and ingenuity of his films have clearly declined.

The only time I'm using AI is for elements I don't have any visuals for scripts that never happened. But I make sure to note when I do!
