I haven't done the smaller needlesize or the decreases on my cumulustee and it came out perfect! No rolling in or anything, just perfectly straight! :)
I have a pear shaped bottom and I recommend not doing the decreases at all on the cumulus tee and also, as that I cord tends to roll, I would do some ribbing instead at the bottom. The last thing a pear shaped girl needs is a bottom band rolling outwards. I would not take a chance, do what you already know will fit you well. The green yarn looks like a beautiful shade of chartreuse (yellow green or grello) on my monitor. Love that shade and the two together are perfect. About your ladders on socks, I do not ever have that problem on socks but I do make sure I pull the yarn between the last and first stitches super tight and then I also tighten up the 2nd st. Knitting in the back loop should completely solve the problem. I use the Fish Lips Kiss heel and when I go back to knitting all the way around after I finish the heel, I always knit through the back loop on the first stitch of the join because that stitch tends to be loose. No holes! Happy knitting!
Hello! Thanks for another lovely vid; it was much enjoyed as I plodded through sleeve island tonight. Just an opinion, but I think that caramel mohair clouds out the gold in the harvest yarn; it ended up looking a little muddy, but it could just be my screen. Can't wait to see what you decided to do; it will be lovely no matter what.
I think you’re right, especially seeing it on the screen makes it look even flatter than irl. Oh well, I’ll just have to make a gorgeous camel jumper and try again on the mohair!
When I did icord finishing around the neck and arm holes on the Virginia Vest by Joji, I went up 1 needle size. It did close the space up a bit, but not uncomfortably so. You could measure 10 cm then work the icord and re-measure to see how much it shrinks up and with that, calculate how much it will for the entire finished edge. If it is coming out smaller than you'd like then you could go up another needle size.
I am halfway through my Cumulus Tee but knitted the sleeves before the body. I have ended up making them slightly shorter and omitted the decreases. (ripped back after following the pattern, and found them too tight with the decreases and I-cord) so I knitted them straight. I’m knitting size M and I am slim, like you. Just cast off with the I-cord (❤️ an i-cord BO!) using a the recommended needle size
Hello from very warm Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Thank you for a refreshing knitting podcast. I am relatively new to knitting and just trying my hand at garment knitting. Keep the episodes coming!! Jackie😍
Lovely podcast, thank you for the second episode! I've just finished the Guernsey Genser, using a DK held with a brushed alpaca silk (which is a little thicker than a silk mohair - about a 3ply). I have a 90cm bust but am full around my hips. I knit the smallest size, and it was HUGE! Even without using the thicker companion yarn, it would still have been delightfully oversized. So my recommendation to you is don't worry about it not being big enough! Use whatever needle size and gauge you like, it's a big jersey!!
I just watched your two episodes and really enjoyed your spontaneity! I hope you can find a knitting community of friends around here. Hugs from Brazil!
I always love finding another fellow English knitter. I watch loads of American podcasters and always disappointed about not having access to the yarn they use. Keep up the podcasting, can’t tell your nervous about videoing!
That’s funny, I have the opposite perspective as an American over the moon to finally be living in the UK with easier access to the lovely British sheep breeds and delightfully woolly yarns that were tougher to find in the states (John Arbon, Garthenor, Woolyknit…)! Thank you for your video and for keeping me company whilst knitting up a hat in Daughter of a Shepherd 🥰
I just discovered your you tube-channel yesterday, but have how watched both episodes. They are lovely! I’m knitting a 2x2 ribbed below knee-length skirt (Ribba skirt) in the same mondim yarn that you made the gorgeous camisole in. I’ve had it on my needles for maybe 1,5 years now… So a heartfelt GOOD JOB on the camisole!! All the greens look fabulous with your coloring! I really like the brown color of the last swatch too, but I think keeping the golden tone would be even nicer. Just my two cents!
You have Maximum Respect for doing a whole skirt in 2x2!!!!!! You’ll get there one day and think how good you’ll feel getting to wear it!! Thank you for watching and spending time with me ☺️
It is such a lovely podcast. For the i-cord finishing on the bottom: I am also wider in my hips and I always finish the top pass my waistline before it reaches the hips. I do not look good in anything hip length.
I’m definitely going to crop it a little from the pattern in think! Definitely much more flattering and basically everything I own is high waisted so easier to pair with things 😊
I just finished a Cumulus Tee for my Mom, who is basically the same size as me, only a little thinner. On me, the I-chord on the bottom sits quite snugly on my body, the fabric diesn't "fall" or drape because it's stopped by my hips :D For her it'll be absolutely fine. When I make one for myself, I will just knit the I-chord without the decreases on the body. I feel like that would be perfect. So, since you seem to have a similar body shape as me, I would recommend knitting the I-chord for the body without the decreases. Happy knitting (btw, mine is planned in the exact same color as yours and seeing yours makes me want to cast on immediately :D)
My poison of choice at the moment is also Criminal Minds! I’d never seen it before, and in a disturbingly short time I’m 6 seasons in… Lots of knitting getting done at the same time!
Really happy to see a new episode from you! :) Love your camisole no 5, the colour looks great on you! I'm also currently knitting a cumulus tee and I just finished the i-cord bind off on the hem. I'm also very much a pear-shaped person and was worried about the fit so I only went down 0,25 in needlesize and did the decreases on about every 5th repeat instead. It seems to have worked out fine, it doesn't flare and only cinches in the tiniest bit. I think it should look fine skipping the decreases and just use the smaller needlesize. Mind you, this is my first time doing an i-cord bind off so I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm quite happy with how it turned out though. :)
Thank you so much, I am leaning toward the no decreases option… I just know How Long icord bind offs take and I really don’t want to have to redo it 😂 especially with as many stitches as the cumulus tee has!!
I've made the cumulus tee in both 100% silk and linen. I went 1-2 sizes up to do the i-cord and omitted the decreases. In my opinion, i-cords are not stretchy at all. On top of that, going down a needle size produces shorter row hight which cinches the edge in.
I hadn’t even thought about the effect the needle change would have on the row height! I just really want to avoid a balloon shape at the bottom. So many things to think about!!
I was also worried about the deceases on Icord. So I changed to the smaller needle for the last 5 rows and did the Icord using the smaller needle with no decreases. I did the same on the sleeves. In fact I did the sleeves first to see if I liked it. I was very happy with the result and knit a 2nd in Isager Trio 2 doing the same finishing. Best of luck whatever method you choose.
Hello from switzerland i‘m karen your cumulus sweater is so lovely also the color, try to work a gage with some i cord on it to find out with you prever your finishd sweater mine fit‘s perfect with out dec. good luck for you nice pod cast karen ❤
I made a Cumulus tee with Rowan Summerlite 4ply and had no problem with hem in iCord. I’m much larger in my hips than in my bust but the tee ends a bit above the largest part. It’s currently my favourite summer shirt.
I'm happy to see your second episode! You are just now talking about your Cumulus tee - lovely colour incidentally. I understand your concern re an i-cord finish for the hem that might draw the bottom of the garment in too much for your liking, and wonder if you have considered a simple rolled hem. Knit two or three rows more than the length you want, bind off in pattern and let the stocking stitch roll up by itself. Gives a nice soft and flexible edge. Thank you for the tip about Make it Tweed! Such a fun yarny product. I bought two balls in Dublin when I visited Ireland in May, but why only two skeins I do not know. They had a knitted sample of it added to yellow yarn and the result was glorious. It seems to be sold out everywhere but I was happy to be able to order another two balls from Spring Wools with reasonable postage to Canada. I have yellow pure wool from Germany so I will now be able to add them together.
I am so excited to add it into a project!!! I’m glad you managed to find some more, and it sounds like it will be really fun with a yellow 😊 a very happy yarn combo ☀️ I had considered a rolled gem, but I’m not sure about how it will look with the other icord finished hems… I am in such overthinking territory 😂
I think the brow/gold is beautiful, how about a brick red mohair, or just do a Colorwork with brick red and that gold brown. I liked it best plain. I agree with you, too washed out. Just my thought
Enjoying your podcast! I’m so wanting to knit a Cumulus Tee as well! Would you be so kind as to let us know what you did with the I-cord as my shape is similar to a pear as well! Keep up the great work!!
Great episode! Loved the swatches that you showed. One of my favorites tv shows is Elementary starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. It’s a Sherlock Holmes show 😊
Hi I’ve just finished a cumulus tee in KFO pure silk and the i-cord edgings worked really well. I did the decreases as per the pattern and it’s blocked out absolutely straight on the body and sleeves. I made it not too long in the body so it’s not going down to where my hips start to widen. On the sleeves they are fitted to my arm but not cinching in on the i-cord. Hope that helps! I’m also just starting on a Champagne cardigan so will see how that goes. Enjoying your videos and seeing all your yarn on the shelves!
Lovely podcast, thank you, Lily! When finishing the double knit arm band on the camisole, I think I would read the instruction to graft as asking me to graft the live stitches at the end of the double knit band to the cast on stitches at the start of the band, rather than grafting the tube closed? Would that be possible? I’ve done double knitting but it was a strap, not an armhole, so I don’t know and can’t quite picture it…?
That’s what I thought when I read it but when I got there I couldn’t make it make sense… I shall have to do some more investigating before making anything with a similar armhole construction! I was just too lazy this time 🙈
Really enjoyed your second episode. To keep the yellow/gold I would go with a similar tone of mohair. I’ve just started an Ingrid but was also tossing up with the Sandes Garn pattern. I may also do that one later 😊
I do think the camel is muddying up the gold colour too much! Oh well, back to the mohair options I go, it won’t be too much of a hardship, who doesn’t enjoy a Yarny purchase?! 😂
Love your podcast! Such a lovely surprise, perfect time for afternoon coffee and knit time here in San Diego ☕️🧶 I recommend you pop over to Amy’s podcast, NE Knits, in her latest episode she just finished up her own Cumulus Tee and covers the iCord dilemma lol
I think we have knit our summer projects in the opposite order! I have a day off tomorrow and watching her solution to my icord dilemma is absolutely on my to do list! Thank you for the recommendation 😁
Really enjoying your podcast 😊 I love the olive colour of your cumulus blouse, and I'm really interested to see what you end up doing about the i-cord - I'm also a bit of a pear shape and was hoping to knit one in the future, and there is just nothing worse than a top feeling a little tight around the hem!
Lovely episode! I’m planning to knit the cumulus too, but the mohair version. And I’m not “evenly shaped”, so I’m really interested in how you end up doing the bottom and the icord. In my experience icord get to tight if I go down a needle size… Cheers from Norway 🌸
I really enjoyed your podcast. I too am trying to work through my Stash. It has gotten so much larger since taking up spinning too. But it is such a treat to make your own yarn from raw wool. I absolutely am not allowed to take up spinning too! 😂 I think I would become more wool than human!! (It does look like it would be so much fun though…)
I'm so glad that the TH-cam algorithm recommended your first episode 🥰 Watching these is like hanging out with someone I know! You mention knitting during night shift, what do you do for work?
lucky you after one episode, I just only can dream of that ;-) but you are refreshing and lovely to watch x Julia

Beautiful video 💚🧶💚
Btw I took your advice on laying a top I was making on top of a top I like! That’s a lot of tops 😂 I’m not going to correct. Fabulous tip.

did I miss it, did you show us the back of your camisole No5? love your color palettes.
Really happy to see a new episode from you! :) Love your camisole no 5, the colour looks great on you!

I am leaning towards omitting the decreases, or at least doing less of them! Thank you for watching and letting me know your experience 😊
Loving your very entertaining podcast 😊
Strongly agree on the Knitting for Olive pure silk! I knit two camisoles in it last year and it's delightful.
I’ve fallen in love with the yarn… very dangerous for my wallet but so good for my little yarny heart ❤️
Love your green swatch! Such a lovely green they make together!
I’m so glad I’m not alone in my mad green yarn combo love 💚

Time Team is a favourite of mine too. Lovely knits. thanks for the podcast.
Time Team ❤️ thank you so much for watching and spending time with me 😊
Yay another video! Thank you for sharing your lovely knits with us ❤️🇨🇦
Thank youuuu ❤️❤️
Hey, lovely see you again😊 another great episode❤
Welcome back! Thanks for watching 🥰
Hello what a good podcast you pitched it just right & we got to see the colours & swatches etc WELL DONE
Onwards & upwards ❤ see you next time 👍
Thank you so much! ❤️
Great to see you again! I love your color sense. Those olive and gold shades are right up my alley! The top you're wearing turned out so nicely!
Thank you so much, I am ridiculously proud of it 😊
I am looking forward to your 3rd episode. Love from Iceland.
Thank youuu 😊
I’m watching Suits from the beginning 😂
This is Absolutely what I mean! I have also previously binge watched all of Suits, such a perfect show for it 😂
I love the color from your swatch of the golden and mohair. I think it would make a jumper/sweater (Woolly knits).
Thank you ☺️

I've been waiting for a new podcast from you! Now I'm going to knit swatchs for my future projects while listening you🖤🖤
A swatch is a perfect podcast project 😊
I'm working on my very first knit garment in a cotton bamboo blend so its so great to see so many cotton projects! Loving your podcast so much.
I love a bamboo blend! They always have such lovely drape and shine ✨
I think the brow/gold is beautiful, how about a brick red mohair, or just do a Colorwork with brick red and that gold brown. I liked it best plain. I agree with you, too washed out. Just my thought

Went right to Time Team loved the first episode! Thank you great podcast
Thank you! And always happy to share the Time Team love haha! 😁
So happy to see a new episode, you are so lovely! Keep at it, love your enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing your creativity 🥰
Thank you so much! I’m so glad ya’ll are here ☺️
Hi .I'm really enjoying your podcasts. You have the right personality to keep the viewers interested. What is Hester and lark?
Thank you so much for watching 😊
Great episode! Loved the swatches that you showed. One of my favorites tv shows is Elementary starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. It’s a Sherlock Holmes show 😊
I’ve seen the first few episodes… maybe now is the time to reinvest, it is 100% the right vibe! Thank you so much for watching 😊
Thank you! It’s good to know that yours blocked out, and my swatch with the KFO silk did relax quite a bit so I definitely need to consider that… 😊
Thank you 🧶👍
You’re welcome 😊
Lovely podcast, thank you, Lily! auch hier viele liebe grüsse aus deutschland.....herzlichst die ruth..chen🙂
Danke 😊
Really enjoyed your second episode. To keep the yellow/gold I would go with a similar tone of mohair. I’ve just started an Ingrid but was also tossing up with the Sandes Garn pattern. I may also do that one later 😊
I do think the camel is muddying up the gold colour too much! Oh well, back to the mohair options I go, it won’t be too much of a hardship, who doesn’t enjoy a Yarny purchase?! 😂
Lovely podcast
Yay, thank you! 😊
I’ll definitely update on my decision in the next podcast, I’m still faffing about trying to decide 😂
Lovely episode! I’m planning to knit the cumulus too, but the mohair version. And I’m not “evenly shaped”, so I’m really interested in how you end up doing the bottom and the icord. In my experience icord get to tight if I go down a needle size…
Cheers from Norway 🌸
I will 100% update in the next episode! Thank you so much for watching ☺️
You could always do a folded hem on the tee? Not sure about the sleeves though!
I need to investigate folded hems more, I’ve never actually done one! 😊
Have you seen Sockmatician sock kntting video on avoiding ladders
I didn’t do the decreases on the cumulus and it rolls upwards even after block which annoys me haha
Ahhhh! That would annoy me too! 😂
I really enjoyed your podcast. I too am trying to work through my Stash. It has gotten so much larger since taking up spinning too. But it is such a treat to make your own yarn from raw wool.
I have a podcast too if you wish to check it out. I am a small batch indy dyer sharing my hand dyed yarn and knitted items. I primarily knit. 😊
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you for watching 🥰
