    I'm a little confused on this on. When I looked at the router running I see this "ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 GigabitEthernet0/0". However, G0/0 is the interface connecting to SW2. I believe the default gateway should always point to the internet of unknown routes - not back into the LAN. I deleted that route and added it back pointing to G0/0/0 which is pointing to the internet. However, when I went to ping 1.1.1.1 from PC7 - it failed. I went back into the router and created a new route 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.193. After I did this I could ping 1.1.1.1 from PC7. Your teaching style is A++ though - I really feel like I am learning a lot here.

      Same. I realized that in simulation mode after the interwebs sent the frame back the the router, the router didn't know where to forward it since there was no static configured between R1 and the overall LAN. Thanks for the comment!

      Looks like that default route is only for labbing purposes, since there's already a route to the "internet" using a connected route. What i don't understand is why for some reason using "show ip route" doesn't display this default route? Moreover, I tried adding a random route just too see what would happen "ip route 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.0.0.193", and it still doesn't show in "show ip route". What's up with that? Perhaps packet tracer bugging out again

    I can't thank you enough for these labs. I decided to revisit some of them as the lessons have gotten more complex. I did everything right except knowing how to configure the ip routing of the last step. Even though I knew how to do it, I had a misconception of how to apply it in the case of the multilayer switch. Thanks!

    I like the look of the boson netsim and I like their questions. I will definitely keep them in mind if I feel I need more practice but your labs and Neil Anderson's free resources are sufficient for me at this time. I appreciate you showing us how NetSim and ExSim both work so we can make informed decisions before we spend the money.

    Hi! In this lab on R1, there was a static route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 gi0/0 already condfigured which will cover all the vlans and no more static routes are necessary in order to reach Cloud. So what was the point with "you'll have to configure the static routes"?

    • @evancrosley2857
      @evancrosley2857 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noticed this too. Is this intended and/or a normal option Jeremy?

    • @JMorrisonpy
      @JMorrisonpy ปีที่แล้ว +6

      With that configuration, PCs won't reach the Cloud, because the exit interface to the Internet is g0/0/0, not g0/0. I don't know if is intentional or not, but you have to change the routes. What I did is delete the ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 g0/0 and replace it with ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 g0/0/0. But that doesn't solve the problem. You have to configure the return path so the reply ping can reach back the PC. For that, I configured the static route: ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 g0/0

    I did not make any config changes outside of this guided video here, but when I ping 10.0.0.129 from pc7, SW1 only floods the frames for the arp request through ports f0/1-2, it never floods them to f0/3-4 (VLAN30, the destination of the frame) and connectivity is not achieved. Anyone else experiencing this?
    I checked the vlan brief for SW1 and vlan 30 contains interfaces f0/3-4, so all good there, and traffic from vlan 10 and 30 are allowed on SW1's G0/1 interface, so it's reaching the switch... it seems that there is no registered destination network address yet for f0/3-4 on SW1 as well after reviewing the simulation log... which make sense because the arp request never gets flooded out of f0/3-4 as stated. Any help is much apprecciated, thanks so much everyone.

    I have one question. Whenever I complete the configurations on a network topology (in the bundle of pre-made networks that you have provided in the first lecture), it takes at least 10-12 ping attempts before they succeed. I get around 10-12 request timed out error messages and then suddenly it starts working. Why is it so? ( I know the ARP isn't taking so long).

    Thanks for the video! I understand that the request time out occurs due to ARP sometimes, but on the other times, there's multiple timeouts which seem normal while also multiple time outs which you CTRL+C and decide that the ping does not work. What's the reason of multiple timeouts before the ping works and how do you know that ping won't work with multiple time outs?

    Hi,
    Why should we use two commands #ip routing AND #ip address ..../subnet on Switch 2 ?
    The command #no switchport should always be followed by #ip routing to tell SW to move to layer 3 and use ip routing? then we specify the actual route? These two commands make sense by why two commands instead of ip address ...../ subnet

    PC in vlan 10 wants to communicate with PC in vlan 30. I tried this in packet tracer simulation mode, but I'm not sure about ARP proces that involves multilayer switch.
    The PC doesn't know the MAC address of its default gateway (Multilayer Switch 2), so it sends ARP request (Destination IP: default gateway which is configured on a SW2; Destination MAC address: FFFF. FFFF. FFFF). SW2 receives ARP request. Now, what does it do next?
    Layer 2 Switches would dynamically learn PCs mac address, they would associate Source MAC address with the corresponding port. So, the next time when switch needs to forward the frame with PCs MAC address, they'll know which port to use.
    Basically, since IP address of a switch matches the destination ip address in arp request, then the switch can send ARP reply out of the interface that is associated with PCs MAC address.
    But, it's not what happens... when I run packet tracers simulation mode (and made sure switches mac address table is empty), I see that multilayer switch sends broadcast message to all devices in vlan 10, except one. I don't get why. Why can't it send just an ARP reply (like we saw in the "life of a packet" lesson)?

    Hi again @Jeremy, I would like to ask for your advice. I've been struggling with the VLAN's as well as most previous packet tracer labs. I do not want to continue with the videos unless I have a thorough understanding of the materials at hand. What do you suggest I do? I do not have a lot of time during the day so I wouldn't be able to do multiple 'days' in one. Should I rather go back to the previous videos and re-do the old labs until I can do them without having to watch the videos? I am a slow learner, so I want to be sure that I am digesting all of the information properly. I also don't have enough money for ExSim + NetSim. Should I watch through your ExSim + NetSim videos anyways?

    Hi sir, I configured DHCP server in R1 at the previous lab and all the PCs received proper IP addresses. However, it seemed not working for this lab. I switched to Simulation mode and saw the DHCP frame was not be forwarded to R1. Can you please help me with it?

    • @JeremysITLab

      The DHCP frames sent by the PC are broadcast frames, they will only be forwarded to devices in the same LAN (VLAN). In this lab, the switch is now the PCs' default gateway, and R1 is in a different subnet, so it won't receive the broadcasts.
      Try these commads on SW2:
      interface vlan 10
      ip helper-address 10.0.0.194
      interface vlan 20
      ip helper-address 10.0.0.194
      interface vlan 30
      ip helper-address 10.0.0.194
      end
      Then, on the PCs do:
      ipconfig /release
      ipconfig /renew
      I think that will fix the problem! I will talk about DHCP later in this course.

    Question I know that you got the subnet mask of VLAN 10 and 20 but wondering how you got .62 for VLAN 10 and .126 for VLAN 20 is it because it is the broadcast address? From what I remember /26 belongs to 64 group so it increments by said #. So 63 would be broadcast address for VLAN10 and I'm guessing 62 is that networks address? Correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry I have troubles with subnetting its one of my weak points.

    • @bliss6607
      @bliss6607 ปีที่แล้ว

      .63 is broadcast address of 1st subnet, so the last usable address of the 1st subnet will be .62 and .1 is the first usable address of the 1st subnet. You are confused about .64 which will be network address/ID of the second subnet. Since /26= 2^2 that's 4 subnets.
