    When the active router fails, Jeremy feels sad, but then the standby router saves the day, and Jeremy feels happy! The standby router saved the day, Jeremy, it saved the day! Look how happy Jeremy is in the top right picture!

    I really do like the content. My biggest issue with the CCNA seemes to be that I have to memorize things like mac addresses and multicast addresses for so many different things. In the practical world you would look those things up when needed. This is my only issue with cisco really.

    • @Wetheuntitled
      @Wetheuntitled ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I completely agree. Makes no sense to have to memorize things that you can’t look up in an exam when you can look it up in the real world. Like if they want to include stuff like that. Then allow only a booklet or something to be brought it for that or something

    Broooo...this might seem like a random comment but I want to state one of the main reasons why you're such a great teacher
    @17:25
    When you started to explain HSRP with visuals, in my head I was like "ok I think I understand but the visual MAY confuse me more especially with the VLANS but I think I'll be able to understand better if you use different colors...PLEASE USE DIFFERENT COLORS...PLEASE USE DIFFERENT COLORS..." and then BAM! You use another color to bring in VLAN 2 and it helped to glue everything together.
    I think a lot of teachers don't understand that PICTURES and colors and moving arrows and packets (lmao) really HELP a lot of folks. People associate colors and pictures etc with kids and think its an insult to their intelligence to learn the way kids learn but idk for me how you just did that helps me sooo much. Thank you very much. Please continue teaching like this. Will be taking my CCNA soon and will then start on CCNP Hopefully this teaching style transfers over to the CCNP videos

    Hello Jeremy, great quality video as always. There is just one thing I wanted to add in what you said, it is indeed possible to load balance in a single VLAN by using HSRP. This can be done by configuring multiple hsrp instances on the router interfaces. Half of the host having the Virtual IP of one instance and the other half using the Virtual IP of the second instance and by configuring the first router to act as active in the first instance and standby on the second instance and inversely for the second router. Thus loadbalancing the trafic across the routers.

    To configure an HSRP virtual IP address, the command is:
    router(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    Note: If the group-number is not entered, then it will default to a group number of 0.
    The ip-address parameter does not necessarily need to be included when configuring all HSRP interfaces but it DOES need to be entered on at least one HSRP device. The other devices are able to learn the virtual IP address from this device.
    i.e R1 command would be R1(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    and R2 command can be R2(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip

      i passed it on the 17th december 2022. in addition to Jeremy's playlist, i also watched certbros, David Bombal and Prof Messer. I also took plenty of simulated tests and did a buttload of labs on cisco packet tracer, besides also taking notes and making personalised summaries of everything and using the anki flashcards.
      it was relevant for my job back then. but now I work as a data analyst and the only parts that relate to my current position are the lessons at the very end, namely the ones that talk about json, xml, yaml, apis and postman.
      i still rewatch the videos and re-read my notes often, if anything for nostalgia's sake. it was an interesting journey, and I will always fondly remember every moment of it

    Practically I find this specific concept a very "nieche" portion of the whole CCNA. Personally I would only "memorize" the IP addresses, and simply be able to recognize the mac addresses. From what I have gathered from others also support this. No need to learn every single nieche topic on the CCNA level, however if you are planning to go CCNP or beyond, one probably ought to learn this by heart.

    Bro this course is very simple and very helpful . But some times i didn't get the video orderly . So if you can , can you make this whole video as a single video? That would be very helpful........

    Thank you very very very much.
    Actually I have a suggestion: woud you please do a video to show how to configure a second ISP internet router which has different subnet as failover router.
    Example: Primary router IP is 213.0.113.1 and failover router IP is 196.0.113.1
    Looks like no one FHRP could do it.
    I crawled the web but couldn't find smthg working. Honestly it's beyond my current knowledge.
    Thank you very much!

    Great explanation, thank you. Quick question: which one of these FHRPs is used mostly in the industry?

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Probably HSRP for Cisco devices, VRRP for non-Cisco devices.

    Setting aside the "standby 1 preempt" command. Let's say we prioritized R1 with a priority of 200, and R2 with a priority of 50. However, we first configured R2, then R1. Which router will be the active router in this case. If R2 will be the active one as it is configured first, the question is what's the point of setting the priority then?

    Awesome and well explained. Thanks. While the underlying system is clear to me i wonder how long i'll take to learn the MAC addresses, even with the Anki flashcards, i jsut have issues learning those addresses without any kind of "logic" behind them that i can grasp.

      Write them down over and over again, it helps with inane information like that that you just need for a test and end up forgetting it immediately a week later.

    Hi Jeremy thank you for another great lesson. The last digits of virtual MAC address (all protocols) must always to be converted in hex correct? (in case from 0 to 9 are simply the same)

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's correct, MAC addresses are always written in hexadecimal so you'll have to convert to hex.

    Hi Jeremy,
    Can vlan consists of devices with more than one subnets (and vice versa) ? If yes, please elaborate.
    Are the following statement true ?
    Each subnet will have one and only one broadcast domain (all host bit to one).
    A vlan consists of devices which have same broadcast domain.

    thank you for this great video , i just have one question does GLBP can load-balance also per subnet like HSRP & VRRP and for each subnet can elect AVG and 4 other AVF ?
    like if there is 2 groups of GLBP in each group will be 1 AVG and 4 AVF that means in total there is 2 AVG and 8 AVF

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that's correct, if you configure multiple GLBP groups, each group can have different AVG/AVFs.

    The virtual mac address is the same for the active and passive router ?? Because I thought if it yes, possibly in this scenario occurs mac address flapping where the switches record the same mac-address with different interface destination.

    Hi Jeremy, Thanks a lot for your videos. I have a Question. Could you please tell me what happens when data wants to enter a network with HSRP? Will it be sent to the Active router? to the Backup router? or both? I wish you could explain...

    Hi Jeremy! I tried HSRP with 4331 routers on CPT. Even if there is no preemption, higher IP address owner router becomes active after shutting down and coming back online.

    Hello Jeremy, you are doing a great job! Thank you for all those videos. I have a question. If PC1 is connected to SW1, and SW1 is connected on R1 (VLAN10). Then we got a PC2 connected to SW2 connected to R1 (VLAN 20) - Same router. The R1 has G0/0 connected to SW1 and G0/2 connected to SW2. Both switches are connected. I understand that there need to be trunks between SW1 -> R1 SW2 -> R1 and SW1-SW2. Also, the ROAS needs to be configured on the router. The problem is that when creating an ROAS on the router. I noticed that the encapsulation dot1Q (VLAN) can only be configured on one interface. What happens if that interface fails?How will the route reach another interface? The encapsulation for a specific VLAN/IP can be configured on one interface.

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not a realistic network topology. When using an FHRP the point is to provide redundancy, however if you're using just a single router that redundancy is lost, as the router is a single point of failure.
