    I really do like the content. My biggest issue with the CCNA seemes to be that I have to memorize things like mac addresses and multicast addresses for so many different things. In the practical world you would look those things up when needed. This is my only issue with cisco really.

    • @Wetheuntitled
      @Wetheuntitled ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I completely agree. Makes no sense to have to memorize things that you can’t look up in an exam when you can look it up in the real world. Like if they want to include stuff like that. Then allow only a booklet or something to be brought it for that or something

    • @AlexandrOakway
      @AlexandrOakway ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Wetheuntitled yeah, it's cisco, they would never allow such things

    • @marko514
      @marko514 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it's purposefuly made like that so not everyone can get their CCNA certificate.
      If there weren't any questions such as what is the default MTU value or what is the default hello timer in Ethernet link or what layer does TCP operate on, then everyone would get their CCNA pretty easily. It sucks, but I think it holds the value for those to decide to study and learn this material and actually pass the exam.
      Sure, everyone can google these type of things and even Jeremy said that it's pretty normal in real world. What is important is to learn the underlying concepts.. Ip routing, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, configuring network devices, network security etc. That is the objective in CCNA, to see things from the bigger picture. Google can be done by anyone, anytime.
      I totally agree with you, it sucks, but it shows you sticked to the very end and really wanted to learn this material.

  • @ofsep
    @ofsep 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello Jeremy, great quality video as always. There is just one thing I wanted to add in what you said, it is indeed possible to load balance in a single VLAN by using HSRP. This can be done by configuring multiple hsrp instances on the router interfaces. Half of the host having the Virtual IP of one instance and the other half using the Virtual IP of the second instance and by configuring the first router to act as active in the first instance and standby on the second instance and inversely for the second router. Thus loadbalancing the trafic across the routers.

  • @neoaragon3980
    @neoaragon3980 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    To configure an HSRP virtual IP address, the command is:
    router(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    Note: If the group-number is not entered, then it will default to a group number of 0.
    The ip-address parameter does not necessarily need to be included when configuring all HSRP interfaces but it DOES need to be entered on at least one HSRP device. The other devices are able to learn the virtual IP address from this device.
    i.e R1 command would be R1(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    and R2 command can be R2(config-if)#standby [group-number] ip

I also took plenty of simulated tests and did a buttload of labs on cisco packet tracer, besides also taking notes and making personalised summaries of everything and using the anki flashcards.
      it was relevant for my job back then. but now I work as a data analyst and the only parts that relate to my current position are the lessons at the very end, namely the ones that talk about json, xml, yaml, apis and postman.

    Practically I find this specific concept a very "nieche" portion of the whole CCNA. Personally I would only "memorize" the IP addresses, and simply be able to recognize the mac addresses. From what I have gathered from others also support this. No need to learn every single nieche topic on the CCNA level, however if you are planning to go CCNP or beyond, one probably ought to learn this by heart.

    One thing about CCNA that I really struggle with is knowing how deep I really need to go. Im not trying to be a network engineer, I want to get any tech job and work towards SOC analyst. The Cisco exam topic for FHRP is " describe the purpose of FHRP" but then I take a Boson Practice exam thats asking "which of the following statements are true regarding FHRP hello messages". I have already been preparing for the CCNA for 10 months and feel like I could spend another year studying and not cover everything. I feel like describe the purpose of FHRP should be super simple and not go into specifics of the protocols.

Which router will be the active router in this case. If R2 will be the active one as it is configured first, the question is what's the point of setting the priority then?

    The virtual mac address is the same for the active and passive router ?? Because I thought if it yes, possibly in this scenario occurs mac address flapping where the switches record the same mac-address with different interface destination.

    HSRP Configuration Commands:
    standby [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    standby [group-number] priority [priority-value]
    standby [group-number] preempt
    VRRP Configuration Commands:
    vrrp [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    vrrp [group-number] priority [priority-value]
    vrrp [group-number] preempt
    GLBP Configuration Commands:
    glbp [group-number] ip [ip-address]
    glbp [group-number] priority [priority-value]
    glbp [group-number] weighting [weight-value]
    glbp [group-number] preempt
    Functions:
    HSRP:
    standby group-number ip ip-address: Configures the virtual IP address for HSRP group number.
    standby group-number priority priority-value: Configures the priority for the HSRP group number. Higher values indicate higher priority, with a default value of 100.
    standby group-number preempt: Enables preemption for the HSRP group number, allowing the router with the highest priority to take back its role as the active router if it becomes available again.
    VRRP:
    vrrp group-number ip ip-address: Configures the virtual IP address for VRRP group number.
    vrrp group-number priority priority-value: Configures the priority for the VRRP group number. Higher values indicate higher priority, with a default value of 100.
    vrrp group-number preempt: Enables preemption for the VRRP group number, allowing the router with the highest priority to take back its role as the active router if it becomes available again.
    GLBP:
    glbp group-number ip ip-address: Configures the virtual IP address for GLBP group number.
    glbp group-number priority priority-value: Configures the priority for the GLBP group number. Higher values indicate higher priority, with a default value of 100.
    glbp group-number weighting weight-value: Configures the weighting value for the GLBP group number. Higher values indicate that the router should be used more frequently for traffic forwarding, with a default value of 1.
    glbp group-number preempt: Enables preemption for the GLBP group number, allowing the router with the highest priority to take back its role as the active router if it becomes available again.

    Hi Jeremy !! Thank you so much for your videos .
    I want to ask you a question that is not about this lesson but a question in general.
    What is Packet Switching ?

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's just a word for the process used to send data (in packets) through a network to a destination.

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Here's a definition from Wikipedia: 'The routing and transferring of data by means of addressed packets so that a channel is occupied during the transmission of the packet only, and upon completion of the transmission the channel is made available for the transfer of other traffic'

    Don't most modern OS support the option to configure a second default gateway in their interfaces? It seems like this would be sort of a moot point, but maybe it is more applicable to larger networks and more reliable in some way that isn't explained here.

    I have a question please. If the hello Messages is being sent out of G0/0 and received on G0/0 but the connection ISP side (G0/1) fails, then the Active Router stays active but no ISP connection still remains.
    How does FHRP address this situation?
    Also, how does OSPF factor FHRP into their routing tables?

    • @JeremysITLab
      @JeremysITLab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there are any statistics published for that. I guess HSRP when using Cisco devices and VRRP for non-Cisco.

  • @jakezxz1352
    @jakezxz1352 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You mentioned that HSRP can't loadbalance in a single subnet - Is this true? Cisco explains that MHSRP instances can coexist in the same subnet, with only 1 router being active in a group at a time, and you would configure the hosts 50/50 with the VIP of the active router for a group - This probably goes beyond the CCNA, but I don't think what was given was accurate.
