      The Fog has unbelievable rewatchability. I can never remember exactly what happened regardless of how recently I've watched it.

    Excellent list of 80s horror on 4K. I'm also a John Carpenter fan and all those picks were right on. I was on a training gig in Boston in 1982 and I had a weekend to have some fun. I was always a fan of 'The Thing from Another World' and we saw they were having a premiere of 'The Thing' in a nearby cinema. I was absolutely blown away and have collected many 'The Thing' collectibles over the years. I still have 'The Thing' pin they were handing out at the premiere showing. Good memories.

      Yeah The Thing is such a classic. One of the best movies ever for practical effects. It's certainly my favorite John Carpenter film. Thanks for watching!

    I gotta start collecting these in 4k 😮 great picks! I love the thing it literally has everything we need in horror!!

      oh I totally agree! The Thing is so badass! It's one I can re-watch over and over. And it really is among probably the top 10 4K discs in my entire collection, in terms of picture quality. It looks stunning, and all those juicy, glorpy, brilliant Rob Bottin practical effects really shine through on the format.😆😉👍

    A great list, and it’s nice to see someone doing a list of their own personal favourites and not what everyone else thinks is good. It was great to see The Fog in there, it’s my favourite John Carpenter film and one I used to watch almost religiously as a kid. The Changeling has been restored by Second Sight, an amazing UK company that specialise in really nice boutique releases and from what I hear their restoration is superb, you should check them out.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I saw that Second Sight released the Changeling in the cool box set, and I was kicking myself for getting the Severin 4K last year (even though I know it's sourced from the same 4K scan and has mostly the same bonus features). I would've just waited for the Second Sight release if I'd known it was coming. Second Sight's packaging/physical presentation is just so much better than the crap we get from Severin. So I'm considering selling my Severin copy at some point and springing for the Second Sight release. Thanks for watching!

    There are only three distinct time periods in how I organize my collection, 1950's (~1920-1969), 1980's (~1970-1996), 2000's (~1997-2024). Whether they feel like they fit in a given era is more important than the exact year. And recent films that are a continuation of an original franchise typically go in their original decade. Indiana Jones or the Exorcist, for example, all the later movies are in the 80's section because they exist as footnotes to the legend that is the original. I imagine a lot of people sort similarly.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Right on... that sounds like a cool way to organize. I can totally see the logic behind what you're doing. Very cool! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    I picked up half of these films and all are on lists to pick up. I didn't pick up Severin release of the Changing, but order I believe the Studio Canal instead hoping for a improved transfer. Demons is another 4k I would recommend the transfer is incredible. I'm waiting for the Beyond to be released on 4k it's been announced in the future. One film I'm hoping for 4k and dobby vision release is the 1988 Blob those colors would pop like the Beyond.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I believe it's Second Sight that's releasing a new version of the Changeling in a really nice set -- and honestly, I kind of wish I'd held off on purchasing this Severin one, only because the Second Sight packaging looks so much cooler. And I'm sure their restoration will also be improved over Severin (although I'm guessing they are still working off of the same 4K internegative scan that Severin used, so it seems there are some limitations at the source with this film. No OCN access). In fact, I may still pick up the Second Sight version, just because I REALLY like the packaging lol... But not sure if I want to double dip on this one or not.
      Also, I totally agree with you on Demons... it looks fantastic on 4K (I have the Demons 1 and 2 4K set that Synapse put out). And I would also love to see the Blob 88 and the Beyond on 4K. Great stuff! Thanks for watching.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz we will have to wait for a comparison/contrast review of the Changing. But they were around the same price and hearing that Severin was not that great I didn't feel like spending that much on it. Instead I order Hell of the living Dead on 4k. Next month ordering Burial Ground, Cannibal Holocaust, City of the Living Dead and Cannibal Holocaust on 4k. Going full Italian next month.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikefisher2673 Yeah I totally get it. Frankly, I've not been that impressed with Severin as a company. They are really pricey, especially considering that they don't deliver on the packaging quite like Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome do. And their customer service is questionable. They do put out some good restorations sometimes (like Argento's Four Flies On Grey Velvet). But I think they kind of left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths after the way they handled that Argento Four Flies release. The Changeling was a pricey item too... way more than it should've been for what you get. So even though I own a few things from them, I don't think I'm going to be buying a whole lot more from Severin moving forward (unless they put out something really important to me, like another new Argento 4K for Inferno or Opera or something). Also, I love Italian horror... especially Argento, Mario Bava and Sergio Martino.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Your spot on Severin is overpriced when it comes to 4k, but this moment only have Perdita Durango. Have a few of there blu rays including Zulu Dawn and The Wild Geese that was must in my collection. Shows like yours and other have me looking for region free blu Ray's and 4ks overseas. Someone did a comparison/contrast of Planet of the Vampires between KL blu ray and the 4k and what a different in color just gorgeous looking.

    I prefer a little comedy in my horror probably because I don't find horror scary, just super fun. My list, in no particular order: Nightmare on Elm Street, The Blob, Dolls, Nightmare On Elm Street 4 (yup, I like 4 more than 3), Night of the Comet, The Kindred (great release through Synapse), Psycho 2, Child's Play, Trick or Treat (1986), My Bloody Valentine. I also love The Changeling, Night of the Creeps, Pumpkinhead, The Fog, They Live, Mortuary, They Live, Deadly Friend, Ghoulies, and so many more

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can appreciate that. I don't always lean toward the comedy side of the horror genre as much, but that's only because I usually seem to find more humor in horror films that aren't even supposed to be funny than I do the ones that are intentionally trying to be! LMAO!😂 So I agree... I don't usually find horror films to be scary... they're just a lot of fun!

      For me I dislike Dario Argento or Italian horror. I don't see the why everyone loves it but that me. I think Suspiria is one of the most overrated movies of all times.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christopherstevenson583 yeah I get that... Dario Argento can be an acquired taste for some. I was a late-bloomer on his films myself, but he quickly became a favorite director of mine. It's all about the style. The dubbed dialogue in Italian horror can take some getting used to, and I've found it best not to overthink his films too much. But I love his shot composition and style, the practical effects and murder set pieces, etc. It's his sort of avant garde style that I think people are attracted to. Visually, he's very artsy.

      I don't even use that Carpenter collection anymore. I've since replaced all the films included in the set with stand-alone 4K releases from Scream Factory (which have better encodes than the Studiocanal versions, since they're on triple-layer discs instead of dual-layer).
