Wow I bought all the Columbia Classics box sets when they came out for around $100. Didn't realize some of them would become so rare and sought after.
Like, why the hell would so many of these go OOP in the first place? STARSHIP TROOPERS?! Why would that go OOP people love that movie!

Thanks to your work on this channel, I’ve got 95% of these releases at the initial retail prices. The only one I paid a little more for was the Labyrinth 4K Book for $50 from Canada 🇨🇦 eBay sale. But it was worth it to me. And although I’ll most likely never sell my collection unless I’m absolutely desperate, it’s awesome to see how my collection has grown in value. Thanks James. 😎👍

I appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into your videos. Love this one in particular. I bought my wife the twilight 4K box set for Christmas 2023 for $120.
I never understood limited editions or OOP unless there is a loss of rights to distribute something. I'd distribute any movie for as long as the orders were coming in and over time reasonably increase the price. Easy answer is sell the copies and pause to have people put refundable money down for a reprint. When a set number of orders are in, reprint more and sell them. Why are these distributers letting price gougers on Ebay take their business?
As someone who owns about 900 4k movies that's the best comment I've ever read about collecting. It doesn't help anyone and future generations of collectors.
I never understood how films can come out in one country(say the US) but not in another(like the UK where I’m from). Not only do I have to buy Region A blu rays but I have to pay more for them too. 4K’s are fine because they’re multi region but I usually have to pay £15-20 more than I usually would from a store. A prime example is The Abyss which isn’t coming out over here now. It would cost £25 but I had to pay £40. As for out of print films, I recently found out they once released The Phantom of the Opera on 4K in China(if he mentions it in this video I don’t know as I read your comment first and just replied) which I would buy if it wasn’t so rare that it costs about £400 secondhand(at least the one I found was).
I do understand that being limited you raise the demand artificially, in comic books all prints are sort of limited, but you do have reprints and collections releasing from time to time. Hence, if reprints of limited editions that are successful becomes a common thing I think that’s a middle ground for the studios that can squeeze the lemon twice and the consumers that want access.
Totally awesome video man! Yur content is always totally the best around & no one else even compares to your top notch videos!! I did not know about Starship Troopers 4K steelbook & the labyrinth 4K dolby vision differences, so prices were not too bad for both so I ordered them thru ya links!

I had no idea Columbia Classics Vol 1 would be worth so much had opportunity to buy it at $150 and passed because I thought it was too expensive lol
I was able to snag the Dolby Vision version of Labyrinth on eBay for around $38 this past year. I also have the Best Buy 4K steelbooks of Kong: Skull Island and the Batman 4-Film set (picked those up on release day when they came out). Another Turbine release that is OOP and valuable/hard to find is The Black Phone 4K steelbook, which they released with Dolby Vision (which the US release did not have). They also did a few 4K mediabook versions, which are all scarce.
I have The Final Countdown. I bought it as soon as it came out. I really like that movie. I am looking to get Starship Troopers. I have the other 4k but want the Sony version.
Of the one’s you mentioned; I own Labyrinth, Robocop and RAD. A very fun video, I’d be on board for more of these in the future. 👍🏻

Great to get these insights into the secondary physical media market. It's crazy what some of these releases end up going for and it's a shame that that many of these great releases are not always accessible to movie fans. Fortunately I have a few of the items you showcased here including that Columbia Classics volume 1 set which I am now very glad I bought at the time. I also have that Dawn of the Dead set, The Final countdown as well as several others in this vid. However there are some I'd really love to get like that Ghostbusters set but just way to expensive for the moment. Hopefully I can one day pick these more expensive items up for my collection.
Yay! So glad I have the Lybrnith 4k 35th anniversary edition. I bought it at Best Buy for $19.99. Didn't even realize it was limited.
I don't know how rare it is, but the movie I've paid the most for was Sword and the Sorcerer for about 70 dollars. Other movies that I haven't bought because they are too expensive:

Brilliant episode - sadly (for my wallet) I have seven of these high value disc sets. I am based in the UK so most of my editions are from UK releases such as Second Sight’s Dawn of the Dead, Arrow’s limited editions of Robin Hood and Robocop. I have all of the Columbia classics - although the first one is a bit of a Frankenstein version - I bought box and book and separate versions of the films - only one I have not been able to get is League of their own. I got the UK version of Ghost busters ultimate set but which dis not have red flashing lights. I also managed to pick up blue undergrounds Final countdown.
My purchase of of these editions are directly down to my watching your channel😅😅😅

I at least have a few of those: The Batman 4K Steelbook set, the Ghostbuster set, The IP Collection, and the Spider-Man set. If you got a second, mind if I ask about your Spider-Man set, did it have any audio errors?
I own Starship Troopers, Robocop, Twilight series, Ghostbusters set and the Batman set. Needless to say the Ghostbusters set is the crown jewel of my collection. But as for some of the others, I can’t believe I passed on so many that just sat at Best Buy for the longest time.
The Rarest DVD that never made it to Even Blu Ray is "Winter People" with Kurt Russell. Priceless.

It's not crazy in price yet, but the rarest ones I have are the Maze Runner movies (all 3) in Steelbook. You can't even find them in 4k let alone the steelbook.

Glad I picked up star ship troopers at the time.
I have all the Columbia Classics boxes - Sony do an amazing job on every movie, absolutely gorgeous transfers. I pre-ordered them all so only paid an average of around $250AU each, which was about average to import to Aus. Very shocked to see how much vol 1&2 are worth now. I knew Vol.1 was sought after but holy crap!
Also have the Robin Hood PoT box from Arrow - I was disappointed with the transfer, unbelievably grainy and almost unwatchable for me
Also the Robobcop L.E. and the Starship Troopers 25th Ann. L.E Steelbook, paid about average retail for them.
Was spewing about Rad - by the time I'd heard about it, it was already sold out
Adding the Spider-Man sets, the Batman set and Robin Hood to the collection. Already had RAD which I love! Actually just saw RAD in the theater, which I had never done before.
Final Countdown is well worth it.
I imported the Final Countdown set to the UK ..I had no idea it was so valuable...it's a great movie..
I’ve never understood the Ltd runs. The amount of time and money it costs to do a 4K restoration then only do 10K copies of it? Whats the point. If they did 50K they would sell and they’re make 5X more. It’s mind boggling. I have the Dawn on the dead one but it seems a cash grab at the start, but if they didn’t limit it they would make far more. Don’t these companies want to make as much money as possible? 🤦🏻♂️

I'm excited that Sony have released the Amicus musical Ring a ding rhythm on blu ray.
This set is SOLD OUT and OUT OF PRINT. Sony only did a limited run and the vultures on ebay are price gouging up and over $185+ US, the Blue Rays are the way to go.
Guess I'm gonna pass on this set. I might pick up the Blue Ray's, then again I might not.

No way, I actually picked up the Ran Steelbook at a local shop for $20 a couple weeks ago. Just saw it was a Kurosawa film so I jumped. Always nice to realize ya found a bargain!
I payed 90 bucks for the Dawn of the Dead 4K collectors edition. Even had to appear in person to my local cusoms to pick it up. Felt stupid then, feel smart now. ;)
I have a handful of these, namely the full-on FINAL COUNTDOWN.
I missed out on RAN because I couldn't afford it.
I missed out on STARSHIP TROOPERS because 1) I don't like the movie and 2) the artwork was ugly.
I missed out on LABYRINTH because I didn't know about it.

WOW! Really surprised how many of these I have already. I jumped on the Sony collections early, i wanted Lawrence of Arabia and ordered early, and continued pre-ordering all of them as they have been announced (I've got all 4).
i'm shocked about the Twilight Saga set - i got that one from Best Buy for $64 with discounts. I also have the Columbia Classics Vol 2, I'm glad I picked that one up for $99 a while back..

People always sound sooo stupid when they say they had to own a movie because they love it so much but their copy is still sealed because they want to sell it eventually. I’ve been buying steelbooks since the first time I saw one but i truly only buy movies i actually enjoy and I watch all of them. If I have a sealed copy it’s only because i haven’t gotten to it yet..
Managed to get Starship Troopers for £35 when it was reissued last September. I also managed to get the steelbook reissue of Lawrence Of Arabia for £40 around the same time. That was supposed to get a reissue in the UK a couple of months ago and then got cancelled. I also have the Robocop set and The Final Countdown first issue.
Also, Sony has been known to reprint some 4K steel books too. They’ve done it with Lawrence of Arabia and Fright Night. Moral of the story is have patience if you miss out. Sometimes they get a reprint, because the manufacturer or studio know they’ll sell due to demand. As far as the Arrow Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves release goes, that was a UK release only. I foresee it getting a U.S. release. It may not be Arrow that does it, but at least we’ll get the 4K eventually. Now, I doubt the Sony Ghostbusters ghost trap set comes back, but you never know with the home video release of the new movie. We may get another ghost trap boxed set, because Sony knows there is huge demand.
After comparing the prices you stated to online prices, I'm assuming it's for NEW ones. Its hard to find them used. I have a copy of Twilight Time's release of Where the Sidewalk Ends, new, still wrapped. Prices range $100+. I bought it new for $30 and want to watch it, but by doing so, it would lose it's value. I guess I could sell it and buy a used copy at half the price and pocket the rest.

Sony had better eventually release the OG Ghostbusters with the Dolby Vision transfer on its own. That’s too big of a movie to not make that version available again!
Man I got about half of those and didn’t really think some went up so much I didn’t even realize how lucky I was to get that ghost in the shell steelbook and thankful I was able to get the ghostbusters trap, though I thought the recently released 4k steelbook with ghostbusters 1&2 was the same disk

You missed the Zavvi UK 4K Total Recall collectors edition box - best item in my collection, and also the Beetlejuice Handbook for the Recently Deceased 4K Box. Some of the Alita Battle Angel steels as well e.g. Black Baron numbered steels. Theres also the non-gloss Ghost in the Shell 4K steel which I prefer as it has some emboss/deboss effects and looks more futuristic being matt metal. Zavvi exclusive limited Mondo steelbook for Blade Runner 2049, Ghostbusters 1 and 2 4K collection steelbook black with the logo and red trim, Overlord 4K white steelbook, and the Oblivion 4K steelbook. Also, the Zavvi UK exclusive Last Action Hero steelbook collector box. Turbines Frighteners 4K just sold out and will sky rocket. Just a few I can think off.
The release of 'Helldivers 2' is the reason the 'Starship Troopers' Steelbook 4K. It's very similar to the film!

I am very fortunate and lucky enough to own the Kong 4k steel and Ran 4k steels. I also own Lawrence of Arabia 4k BB steel ($110), Sleepy Hollow BB steel ($100+), The Exorcist BB steel ($60+), Goodfellas 4k slipcover (50+), Jumanji 4k steel ($60+) and Wicker Man 4k steel ($70)
Out of these specific sets/steelbooks, I have Ran and Starship Troopers. The one I wish I had is the Airheads Blu Ray.
I'm a big fan of 4K + 3D combos, and at this point a lot of those are OOP and rare. I'm pretty close to collecting them all but a few are just ridiculous (Dragons 1 and 2 both cost an arm and a leg from france)
What about the 4K limited edition box set of Back to the Future trilogy, in the "plutonium" yellow case?? That's extremely rare!

The most I've paid for a movie was buying an out of print limited edition blu ray release of Ridley Scott's Legend by Arrow, Zavvi Exclusive. Paid around $80-$90 for it! But I love that movie so much, I couldn't pass up owning that box set. And I've read that there were near to no intentions of scanning that film for a 4K release ever, but I could be wrong about that.
I bought the Legend limited Arrow exclusive set at Barnes and Noble for about half that but I will say if you are a fan of the film $80-90 is worth it.
I was able to get Ghandi, Lawrence of Arabia, Jerry McGuire on 4K elsewhere and I’ll have to just stick with my Blu-Ray of A League of Their Own because I just can’t justify the price now. And I wasn’t interested in the other two movies in that collection.
Just an fyi amazon will randomly ship out things like the final countdown lenticular limited edition when you order the standard. Was quite surprised when mine showed up after ordering it in May of 2023. I guess they use the same internal inventory code for all the versions sometimes.
Best Buy used to do the same type of thing. When they received the standards they added them as the same item in their system. How I got my robocop limited edition for $20.
Same with target. I assume all major retailers have a slight chance. Definitely a nice surprise when it happens
Some of those Best Buy exclusive steel books are getting reprinted and re-released as Walmart exclusive steel books now that Lionsgate is releasing their steel books exclusively through Walmart.
