Love that you made it own TH-cam page u two r awesome. If I take a trip to pa again will stop by n get more quail. The quail I got from u in October r doing wonderful.
I'm in the southwestern part of PA and just hatched over 40 coturnix quail. I have no housing for them yet. Watching this was refreshing and I'm excited to build my own for them.
Hey congrats man on the good hatch! If you have any questions about setting up your hutch system send me a message. We’d like people to succeed with their quail! Thanks so and good luck!
yehaaw ! i should try this. good luck out there buddy ! if I had infinite money and time, id love to visit and help ! Dinosaur Omelette. haha, what a great name X_x
Great presentation! Your lil hidey-hole shows great respect for their needs. You mentioned the 1/2” hardware cloth, but not that solid material. What is that? I have an option to purchase an “overbuilt” (heavy construction) quail cage set-up from a friend. It’s several years old but appeared to be in good shape. I did not notice any rotting of the wood, but I readily admit that would be a concern for me. Hmm, as I write this….I’m kinda talking myself into making that purchase and starting on quail. Hey! You’re quite the Influencer! 🤣🤣
Hahaa..I only would want to influence positive movement in a persons life. But I’m no influencer!😂 the solid floor in the cage I show is for a sand bath. It’s just plywood flooring in there I belive. I clean that out regularly but the quail like the sand bath. What is hardware cloth? There’s a brief image of it in this video but it is a wire mesh pattern of squares 1/2 “ x 1/2”. We have a bunch of quail info on our facebook for education. This is our. Q&A and it answers all the segue questions so you can get started and be successful with your birds: bit.ly/QuailQandA2022
This is just what I needed to see! One question: I have space and could build multiple hutches. I am wondering if an open bottom would be acceptable, and mean less frequent cleaning up of waste.
Good question- you’ll probably need a method to remove waste either way. Really depends on number or birds and waste management plans. It can be composted ; but in what volume is your compost area. We use the hardware cloth floors that are built to actually accommodate the trays. We found the 2’x3’ trays that worked great and then built the hutches to fit those as cleanup is important and don’t want it being any more of a labor than it has to be. Hope that helps😁
@@TheGallopGal they need a little time to decompose/neutralize. Just ensure adequate area coverage for decomposition and integration into soils/other organic material.
Welp…we suggest a max of 3 jumbo quail per sq ft. So 4x8= 32 sqft. x3 birds= 96. Our other hutches are 3x8 foot and we’ve had over 70 in them with no issues.
Awesome I’m getting jumbos, I’m new to it but my buddy I’m getting the from gas decades of experience so I think I’ll get 25-30 to start just to test the waters . Thanks
@@ericfogle4965 congrats and have fun. We’ve been raising them for several years now. They are prolific egg layers. And easy to reproduce. Lemme know if you have a question about em or suggest a video . Thanks!
Thank you!!! That was very helpful!!
Hey no prob. Hope this is somewhat clear for you guys. A hutch is not too hard to build- and it saves a bunch of $ over buying one!

I was planning on dumping the droppings into the woods on our property. Loading up a wheelbarrow.
