Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

I love this. It takes me back to the war years in London, England when I was a boy. I used to buy day old chicks from the pet shop and raise them to supplement our food that was rationed. We had no electricity then. I used to fill a rubber hot water bottle. Wrap it in a towel and put that and the chicks in a cardboard box. Some didn't survive but quite a few did and did was intended. They fed us. Keep the videos coming. They are always interesting.

This is awesome! I know you have tons of experience raising birds, but I have some suggestions that may help. Is the bottom of your incubator non-slip? If not, you can put down the shelf liner with the holes...this will prevent splayed legs. For your waterer, of you put marbles or rocks in the dish part, it will prevent them from trying to go swimming and also from drowning. These babies are tiny and I've heard stories and seen pictures of them climbing up into the food containers and suffocating--if you feed on the floor the first several days, they can grow big enough to avoid this. I tape the holes to make them smaller so they can't fit in. I'm excited you are getting back into quail!

Even if they end up choosing to not go through the process and sharing it I'd highly recommend it for an urban environment. I live in a city, not huge like NYC or anything and I have a backyard where I built a 6'x8' run attached to 2 hutches. We built it in a way where I can easily separate it into 2 runs if I need them separate bc of size or breeds, but for the winter I took the divider out so they have the full run since they are barely laying anyway. Anyway, they really are easy to manage care for with the right setup and pretty tasty. My family likes them in stews best!

So funny/sad story… we had and hatched quail when I was a kid. I loved them. Then I learned that my parents planned on them being the main course for a big dinner party. As you know…. Quail don’t really fly far. A friend and I decided that if we gave them a ‘head start’, they would be able to fly to safety. I lived on an almond orchard, which had tall wind machines on it (VERY tall - several times higher than the trees). We loaded the quail into a crate and lugged them up the ladder. We wished them well, and flung them off the wind machine platform to freedom. …….. It did not go well. Only a few of the quail survived our rescue attempt, and they were injured. We loaded them back up and ran to my dad for help. That was over 35 years ago, and is still routinely brought up with a laugh. “Remember that time you killed all the quail rescuing them?” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

It was definitely a great return on our investment. We had customers for the eggs at our church and harvested several batches of birds. I found eviscerating the small birds a little tedious, but I probably just didn't have my technique down to speed through them.

Was just watching the video on smoking Venison.
It's cold here in TN. It's 25 degrees! I need a heated bunny suit, With FEET! So I can get in my chair, get my coffee, and watch Kevin and Sarah!
    Hope the piglets are warm!
Have to stay on top of the egg gathering or they will freeze.
    GOD bless

This is so exciting! I loved how your curious dogs came scrambling to greet the new chicks... lol! With inflation hitting through the roof right now I'm thinking of getting a few quails for eggs to begin with. I hope you do have a video on that and will look for it. Thanks, Lajo

Alright. Alright. I'm sold. Gonna start researching quails now. I didn't know there was a jumbo version. The small sized ones didn't seem worth the time, energy & cost to keep them. Congrats on the successful hatching rate, btw!!

I know nothing about raising birds. I am amazed you can mail eggs to someone and they get them and they are whole and viable to hatch.

Very interesting video. Loved seeing the entire process in one video. Have you done a quail butchering and cooking video? Curious how that goes with them being so small.

Great video, thanks. I love the Quail. I'd love for you to one day talk about the economics of raising the quail for meat. Not really the fixed cost like the incubator etc, but variable costs like food. I just wonder about the costs as opposed to buying. I know that isn't considering the difference in purity and quality. Maybe you could even do similar videos with your beef cattle and chickens and ducks. Anyway, thanks.

Beautiful! You may want to put pebbles in the waterer. I have those type and quail water bottoms. I've just started a couple months ago raising and hatching quail. I also have button quail. They are so tiny. Just love watching them hatch. You did an awesome job with this video. 💕

I'm a big fan of your channel and just watched this video last night because I'm finally considering raising quail. I looked up myshire farms only to find that they are in the next town over from me! I think it's definitely a sign that I'm moving in the right direction! Thank you for all of your videos! I've watched all of your rabbit videos multiple times while I was learning the ropes with raising rabbits and the videos have helped me tremendously! Btw, I have the same incubator and absolutely love it!

Love the video! Cauldron you answer a few questions?
    1) what did you line the brooder with?
    2) what are you feeding them (crumbles or other)
    3) I’ve heard they can drown in a waterer, how do you prevent that?
    4) how long can you set out eggs after you get them before going into incubator?
Thank you for this great info, can’t wait to get my first quail started!
