Best weapon is the nose of a Cutter at 490m/s
All b graded minus thrusters, 438ms cutter for the win
I mean it is called the cutter for a reason, SPLIT THE ENEMY IN HALF!
TO SHOW YOU TH POWER OF THE CUTTER... I RAM THIS FEDERAL ASSHIP IN HALF!
This is soo true xD
So that's why it's called a cutter
Who are we kidding? The only weapon people use anymore is the mining laser
🥱
I've been playing a year now and I. Still haven't touched mining with a ten foot pole.
At some point I'm going to have to subject myself to the indignity so I can unlock Selene Jean because for reasons known only to Frontier she's the *only* engineer who offers Hull and HRP engineering, which is useful for activities *I actually give a fuck about*
@@DarthWall275 Didn't you know? In the Elite universe you can sell mined resources but you can't buy them. God I hate the artificial nature of the economy in Elite.
dude...if you play in open....and I find you, your're dead shit, autocannons with incendiary/corrosive...on a corvette called cutter slicer
I love mining, but I never carry a mining laser. Seismic charge, abrasion blaster and pulse wave analyser is all I need. If I feel experimental I'll take a sub-surface-displacement-missile. But some combat from time to time breaks the mining routine.
If you want to have some fun, try this little Courier Core Miner I fitted. Can bring in 6million in just under 30mins.. if you know what you are doing (and that is not even taking the mined stuff to the highest selling station, which could result in around 20 million)
s.orbis.zone/cspf
Aged like milk lol
It’s like four in the morning and I’m grinding out my engineering, found the perfect thing to watch while I do so. Thanks yamiks
im about to start eng properly and I'm dreading it
You're gonna need a lot more 10 min videos. I haven't been very active on Elite in a while but I've got fully g5 Ferd, Krait, Python, Corvette, Cobra and Eagle. That represents an embarrassing amount of my life. Good luck.
Jeff Dillenbeck I’ve been working on my cutter for a few weeks but I tend to watch yamiks videos while I’m doing it so I’m not banging my head against the wall as I jump back and forth making lists of what I need
St Ahmed Pendragon Guinevere best of luck mate it takes forever. Make sure you’re always picking up mats from ships you destroy, or scan wakes from ships. You’ll need it all
@@operatorspade6409 Ta mate!
I think the best weapon in game is Yamiks without a docking assistance module.
Oooh, BURN! Lol
I need to know what station sells this module
Hello, I am a Bob
I have a type 10 with all gimballed multicannons (all obvercharged and one small corrosive to apply the affect) Max sheild size and hull/model re-enforcement
Mainly so I can fly the fighter and leave the type 10 as basicly a stationary gunfort.
How much tons can you haul with all that on?
hello bob
i bought a t10 sold it in 5 mins waste of space
T too bad you can’t set auto fire for the ship. You could launch both fighters and then go to bed. You’d be ranked up to Elite by morning lol.
@@prisonerofthehighway1059 If you use turreted weapons you can set "fire at will", put on some cargo and afk near a nav beacon or something. Every pirate that drops in will attack you and be destroyed
I’ve got a Cutter build saved under the title “Simply Cancer”
1 huge and 2 large MC with seekers or pack hounds in the 4 medium slots. Gotta embrace the meme lol.
I should try that out in my fdl
I have it too :-D
I'd argue that turreted beam lasers fill a niche very well: The Anaconda's two small hardpoints. When you stick G5 efficient on them they barely even touch your capacitor, and of course they deal considerably more damage than pulse or burst lasers - this is essential as the two small hardpoints are pretty much the only things that can reliably cover the underside of the ship, and with such small hardpoints you want to get as much as you can out of them.
I used this for years. Especially fun when npc try to maneuver out your conda from under, you just flip the ship and let the beam do the rest. Also, No penalty against small ships and you can fire these for infinity.
I have two small beam lazers turrets engineered for max range on my corvette. They're like chase lazers. Really good for those tiny ships that can stay out of your turning range. Plus, tiny beams hardly hit the distributor at all.
I use m on a cobra started last week been vutting pirates in half with great succes not even engineered
Fed Corvette, FULL BEAMS, all efficient, part of them w/ thermal vent, other - thermal shock. PEEEEWWWWWWWWWW and there is nothing alive xD
If you have the spare power plant, oops all turreted beam lasers can be an effective pve strategy in conda/cutter/vette
I just started but I found that turreted beam lasers on every hardpoint works pretty well actually. You can just switch them all off to cool down by switching to analysis mode. Yeah they do less damage on a target but all 4 or more are literally hitting your target the entire time if you fly right. Destroys smaller or same size ships as yours in literally like 15 seconds. I plan on eventually getting a ship with six hard points maybe two large and putting all turreted beams just to see what happens.
just use gimbled my guy, will save you having to switch to analysis + extra dmg
Turreted MC on the lower side of a Krait MKII help you point toward your target while selecting submodules.
Also it looks interesting when the gun points toward your cockpit and you start wondering what will happen if it ignores the fail-safe and start shooting
Praise The DAKA, All The DAKA
That's why I like my Viper mk3 so much. Impossible gimbalted weapons to lock on you, you can always boost away from anything or you can just boost through the clouds of incoming packhound with 4 pips on systems.
I have a similar build with an Imperial Eagle I named the "ISS Mosquito", maxed out for agility and speed, impossible to kill XD
Yeah... I tried using fixed weapons, multiple times, and never again. I know they do more damage than gimballed, on paper. But in fact, if you consider how much time it takes to bring the target aligned to your guns and for how much time it is possibile to keep it like that (if is not a huge, bulky, ship) the fixed weapon do effectively one tenth (or less) the damage of a gimballed one.
Did you also include the time you spend waiting for the enemy's chaff to wear off?
@@Veloxyll You can just unlock the target and free aim while you're waiting for the chaff to be off. Less damaging that fixed but makes up for it with higher TOT.
@@SaltyRocksPew i feel like an idiot not having thought of that. I always boost into the darn bloody bloke and fire because then they can't miss :D
@@SaltyRocksPew I think Veloxyll's point is that fixed weapons aren't affected by chaff. If you're in a furball fight with multiple ships and you untarget your target...well...good luck finding them.
@@cmdrwraithe1857 Oh I hate that, I always target a ship helping me, then I am surrounded by angry cop ships.
Then you got to go through the whole process of ending up dead 30 mill down, or end up 500ly from anywhere by turning yourself in, and then pay 30 mil.
I had the targeting button on my hotas grip, kept hitting it at the worst of times.
Here's a thought: Weapon balance like Team Fortress 2.
In that game, stock weapons are good in most situations, but there's also a ton of unlockable weapons which tend to be better than stock - _under certain situations._ For example, the Black Box is a rocket launcher that gives back a little health every time you damage an enemy with it, but you have a smaller clip than stock.
Or bullshit like the vita saw i recently checked again. In the past it gave a passive uber storage... Now you have to risk your life to stab people with it, in order to get the uber storage. Penalty? - 10%dmg...
Personally I run two small beam lasers with thermal vent on my python with the rest multi-cannons with either thermal rounds and corrosive. For maximum 'I'M ON FIIIIIIIIREEEEEEEEE, THE ARMOR, IT DOES NOTHIIIIIIIIIIIING"
Kinda feel like these weapons need to be divided into to categories, pvp and pve.
I'm a noob here what is pve stand for?
@@commandericeman8588 Player vs environment.
@@rifleman101 it's player Vs enemy I think
@@amber-1481 either or I think. I've always heard environment myself though
@@commandericeman8588 its kind of player vs bot
I ran seeker missiles for a good long while, and while fun, point defense is an issue, and ammo capacity is an even worse issue. Packhounds solve the first issue but not the second, and add heat problems to the mix.
I'd love to agree on the fixed or gimballed multicannon for general dogfighting, especially if you have limited hardpoints, but if you have a spare hardpoint or two - like the 2 small ones on the Corvette - the turreted version works great to apply debuffs. I run a Corvette with two size-1 multicannons, one with emissive munitions and the other with corrosive, and by putting them on turrets they track fast targets overhead while still applying debuffs. By the time I bring the main guns to bear, they're already softened a little and then the chunky 4A multicannons on the roof pulverize them completely. Don't try to use a turret as a primary weapon, but they can be great for applying effects or just keeping some minimum DPS on target at all times.
Double shot screening shell frags can shoot down a pack of packhounds but you have to pull some decent moves for that.
It's really incredible how good those work against missiles and torps.
Moar Dakka?! WAAAAAAAAAGH!
Neva enuf dakka!
I used to have three pack hound launchers on my T9. Was very entertaining when some pirate tried to intercept me. If I recall correctly the biggest ship I blew up with the T9 was a Python.
I stopped playing after getting back from my trip to Sagittarius and back. That broke me.
How long did it take with what kind off setup ?
How many jump does that make? I've only getting as far as Cat Paw's nebula, roughly 6k ly from my home and a round trip is about 400 jump totals on type 6 (200 jump for one trip)
Just made a pitstop in Colonia before I head to Sag A* in my DBX, jesus christ my eyes are bleeding from all the fuel scooping
5 Plasma Accelerator Pythons ftw
But it easily loses to 1 stealth sidewinder
@@LaneyTheOne can you not hit shots on stealth ships? Plasmas still work on silent ships even if they do not shop up on sensors.
@@brianlam5847 I was referencing a fight Yamiks had on stream. Also stealth or not it's hard to land plasma shots if you're up against a good pilot with an agile ship
@@LaneyTheOne ah.
@@LaneyTheOne Can Sidewinder punch through Python's shields at all?
Worth adding that lots of Cmdrs use thermal vent with beams. Compensation for heat of rails or plasmas.
So useful when I’m vaporising my enemies
For the last 6 years i've been playing Elite I've always used a good burst laser / multicannon combo.
when i got into engineering i started using efficient beams too, and ooooh boi.
Ah pack hounds my baby's, shame there's no ammo racks like cargo racks.
imagine being able to carry 794 tons of missiles for 7 packhounds
When I unlocked Pack Hounds, I went and got them in a type 10 and I bought 10 of them. Had 7 of them equiped for returning to my home station. As I make my way into my home station, some ramming cancerous PKer attacked me. I flew out of the no fire zone and the idiot followed me!. I turned around, locked on, and unleashed hellfire unto his corvette. He lasted about 2 volleys (emptied mag then reloaded).
Wish I could have seen this
Thats....gross! but majestic
Insert high pitch, loud children screaming sound effect here
Katojana Aleksielsis *REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
What you should do is engineer them and put some normal missiles and packhounds on your ship
And fire the packhounds 1 sec before the normal seeker missiles they will distract the point defense and half will get though to the target then Fire normal missiles will land aswell
That's what I do
Fire packhounds 1 sec or 2 seconds before because they're a little bit slower than normal missiles
I love the use of the TFS "DODGE" Meme here. Good job Yamiks. You earned a sub from a DBZA fan :D
For every one who is saying, you already did this video, 2 times, well this videos are focused twords new players, most of this wepons are mostly used in pve
"if left alone, like a gold digger wife" LMFAO!!!
I like how someone can make a one-to-one scale model of the universe and a space fighting game within it and people can still find something to complain about
They will always, no matter how good the game is unfortunately...
Holy shit, you have an incredible way of expressing absolutely everything.
This also made me wish that destroyed cores resulted in a large fusion explosion. Could make combat a bit more interesting. I was also hoping that some weapons beside multicannons and lasers were good. I SO hoped that cannons would became better later
even gimballed multi-cannons cut a lot of damage
I love that you dont only use a Dragonball Meme, no even better... a DB Abridged Meme 😍😍😍
Yamiks: Oh gee, how much dakka do I need?
Every Ork ever: ALL OF THE DAKKA!
wow. elite feels like a distant memory now.
lol
it's still the best space game with multiplayer, that alone damns the entire genre to the grave for the next 3-6 years :/
for anyone else, I-war2, X-series and rebel galaxy outlaw exist
@@IRMentat

the one thing cannons are good for is smashing through the hulls of bigger ships that can not get away. I put cannons on my vulture and just do as it's namesake does. wait until I see an enemy with no shields, swoop in, fire my guns while staying behind the target, get out when it's shields come online again. it's an effective strategy in PVE
Dumbfire missiles can be brilliant if in the right hands. A friend of mine had a chief with 3 dumbfires on the smalls. If he ever dropped your shields, it was all over. Your modules would just be obliterated
I’m a fairly new payer building a bounty hunting vulture using a multi cannon and a pulse laser, I’ve been able to absolutely demolish everything I’ve come in contact with within seconds and haven’t even finished the build yet, I still need another couple mil to afford better thrusters and fsd.
My passenger dolphin is fitted with some dumb fire missiles just in case I get attacked while flying passengers, and my old dbs I was using as a makeshift bounty hunter with a little more firepower than my previous ship was fitted with 4 multicannons. Even managed to take down a fdl in that baby once, but it was a close fight and I had to retreat once before coming back to finish the job
You forgot about ECM being a counter to pack hounds
3 months later... still not addressed by anyone. Is running a ECM to prevent cancer a legit strat? If there's an easy solution to it then shitting on the devs for not "fixing" it seems a bit much, but I'm not experienced enough to say what is good/bad in PvP. Worst case you are 1 module weaker than your opp, best case you counter their build?
@@strmrdr5421 You would need several ECMs to counter pack hounds. The attacker can fire faster than you can deflect, even with just one
Yamiks, could you do a PVE tactics vid of how you tackle using fixed (not gimballed) weapons? Maybe an idea for your next video? 👍
You have a chanel why dont you show us how "gud" you are at pvp with fixed wepons
3 Pulse, 2 Beam and 2 Multis on my corvette.
the beams are nice for when I maneuver around, the pulse when target has shield and daka when shield is down.
Sweet! Just engineered a cutter for cor and laser and runs two packs, 1 huge beam thermal vent and 2 mcs, 1 corrosive 1 auto loader, removes shields and armour in 5 seconds, then seen this, thank god i unlocked them! Pitty the vette doesn't have more M size slots!
Question: How much Dakka do I need?
Answer: More. Always more.
Burst lasers 4 life
Sadly my best weapon is my shield.. its the only thing on my ship that can easily kill anacondas... by ramming them. I vote shields the best melee weapon in the game.. (melee in a space combat game.. are you insane.. yes, yes i am)
I unlocked the Pack-hounds last Thursday. I bought 5
This helped. 🍻
you know whats fun? Krait mark 2 with 5 grade 5 efficient PAs. Love it!
Gonna slap some PA's on the two huge slots of the federal corvette.
actually I wanted to know your opinion about railguns and frag cannons. But as always, entertaining like nothing else :D
With my Conda, my main fire group has the Right trigger mapped to my Beam Lasers AND my Multi Cannons and my Left trigger mapped to my Seeker Missles (which I can swap for Torpedoes on the next fire group).
8:15 the most depressing thing to hear is that they are the best weapon and it still takes for FREAKING.EVER to kill ships with them. *sigh*.....
Thanks! Now I know what to put on my Exploration ASP :D
As a filthy console player im excited for elite on the series x.
If you think missiles are these days, they used to tear through shields and hull alike before getting a flat damage nerf and a 50% damage reduction against shields on top of that.
Oh no, Bob looks exactly like my CMDR.
all i can say is after a year nothing is more satisfying than FSG Multi Cannon Build go BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Turreted weapons not that bad. They are good for beginers, for fun builds and for some utility role e.g. appling some special effects (corrosive for example).
Also good on Anacondas small hard points. You try aiming them otherwise!
I slapped turrets on an anaconda and my time to kill dropped significantly. It makes up for the time I just can't hit the target especially when fighting small ships
Yes, i agree that the turrets are not good for PvP, but for PvE it can be good, and fun, You wont achive the maximum dps with it, but a turreted anaconda can still do better damage then a gimball FDL. The time on target is always the highest for the turrets.
@@BarneyCutter - yeah, I have a fed gunship with top and bottom AX multicannon turrets and it just melts the scouts to the point where I barely ever get to use the dual guardian gauss cannons it has :/
I personally like burst lasers mixed with multi cannons.
Dakka to bring down shields and dakka to rip hulls.
I love missiles but i need to head back to station to reload too often. Also, since I'm not a PVP player I dont need meta. I just run my nice little DB Scout on some smuggler runs. I only have to worry about Player Pirates who get the idea to crack open my ship to steal my cargo. Most of them I can outfly rather easily. But every now and then I run into an ACTUAL Elite player (not just the rank but the skill) and they rip me all kinds of new assholes. One dude had a Corvette with ALL the missiles. He blocked my entire view with them. It was like a wave of death coming right at me.
Yeah it doesn't make much money but I'm having fun.
I (a new player) have a Cobra Mk 3 fitted with:
2 medium multicannons
2 small gimbaled pulse lasers
I like heating things with lasers and finish with missiles spanks...
I have a couple of meme builds but my favorite is a Top Gun like support fighter using a Courier with a rapid fire incendiary round multi-cannon and two high capacity pack hounds. It's a ton of fun with friends for when the shields finally go down and I unload my pack hounds. My main PvE ship though is a Corvette with 2 Huge multi-cannons that just shred other ships like they were made of tissue paper. I actually have a few small turreted pulse lasers because I want the constantly firing, one is scramble spectrum and the other is shield penetrating. Small pulse lasers take so little energy compared to the Corvette that I can keep them firing with no pips in weapons with the engineered power distributor so it works out in the end. I high suggest avoiding it though, I just did it for variety lol, it's a PvE ship so I wasn't going for anything optimal.
I am both informed and entertained. That was brilliant!
Just yesterday I outfitted a Krait MK2 with 3 fixed overcharged/heat vent beam lasers and 2 gimballed high cap corrosive shell/incendiary(I forget the right name) multicannons. It tore through a dangerous ranked anaconda in about 4 seconds so that was pretty cool
I've got dual heat vent beam lasers on my Python - sometimes though, it cools the ship so much the glass starts to frost over, which sets me into a panic as it sounds an *awful* lot like the cockpit is cracking/shattering :/ I imagine with three heat vents it happens even more?
@@LordRenegrade do you use overcharged? They run pretty close to even heatwise, I don't generally drop below 30% with the thrusters (dirty, soon to be drag too) maxed
Edit: also correction, I haven't got heat vent on the third laser yet. Need a couple more components to do it
It doesn't matter what you fly so long as you have 25 combat geared anaconda escort.
Cannons are like plasma accelerators with less power draw and more ammo. That's the main reason I use these. Also they are cheaper and has gimballed variants so more noob-friendly.
Love the energy this video has
The opening had me dead.
I see a face on the thumbnail. And it's smiling and crying at the same time. Say you did it on purpose.
looks like, by pure intuition, I happened to make a Viper 4 build with Gimbled pulse lasers and fixed miniguns (2 of each type) :D
I made a cobra with the same weapons has a better turning rate dont know about the hull or anything but the cobra started working for me with this setup just started 2 weeks ago
@@danielstokker I'm not a fan of how the cobra looks, I used to rock the Eagle for agggess because I really like the Jet look of it, but it became utterly useless as ships and AI got buffed over time so I was forced to upgrade - and even now, I'll sometimes just get obliterated, or be un-killable, very frustrating
@@el-fantasma21 the cobra is the big classic of this game offcourse i like the wedge shape quite a lot and if you dont like rhe look the way it handles will grow on you plus the weapon plaxement works slightly better for me im right behind those 2 cannons i have no use for eirher of the vipers as they turn slower besides the eagle i think the cobra turns fastest if i pick my enemies ill be fine just not able to fight ships like a krait mk2 they are a bit to much but ill get into engineering some more
I think everybody agrees that normal cannons need faster projectile speed, plus I do think working on the graphical effect would be a good idea. It's kinda tame.
Other than that, they're actually pretty good. I have 125 SDPS and 145 HDPS in my (PvE) Python using two fixed cannons as the main heavy hitters. It works better than fixed multi as you aren't losing as much DPS while aiming.
to expand on the visual effect concept, here's what I think would help:
1. bigger muzzle flash. No, bigger than that. A little more. Yeah. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Uss_iowa_bb-61_pr_cropped.jpg that's the ticket. (/rapid_joystick_waggling)
2. A tracer effect. The shell looks like a little glowy ball of fire. Yawn. Make it like a .. -big- long streak of fire! The hit effect looks fairly good from what I can recall, but it could be tuned up a bit too.
In my Python, it's actually funny in that the cannons are almost better against shields than hull: the spacing is kinda wide, but when the target has the shields up, they tend to blast half a ring off (even on like elite anacondas) of the shields as both connect. Then once the shields drop, I typically have to aim with the left one or right one to land a hit :/ Fixed convergence setting plz.
Got some good results with a stock Vulture with 2 PA in a CZ (low), though I had to limp back without a canopy to a station a few times.
4:55 New to Elite? 4:55 - I think of them as Photon Torpedo's of Star Trek!!!
_You have to be good at aiming though, As they move fairly slow, both you and your enemy's movements can throw targeting off (2 x 3 dimensions of movement + 2x speed variations.....but SO satisfying then they do as damage is high!)_
If u want next best thing, try *Rail Gun,* MUCH easier to make hits and also let's u feel like you're LIVING IN "THE EXPANSE"!
In short... Fixed beams, Gimballed multis and a plasma accelerator. Crack on with it
THX for ur work
I use two small turreted high cap corrosive MCs on my condas.
Hay yamiks, since you mentioned patron, if you have any donations in it, withdraw them fast i have a feeling patron is about to go bankrupt, look up the patron litigation that's happening.
Fly safe
Beam lasers + multi-canons are my goto
Yamik: your puny ship is good.... FOR ME TO POOP ON.
nice video, funny guy and got the info i needed
I have two small turreted multicannons with corrosive shells on my vett just to keep the hull compromise when they fly out of my line of sight
I'll run a pack-hound rack on my small ships. If I manage to strip your shields, say bye bye to your hardpoints. ;)
Beam lasers become so much better with thermal vent. Most my builds have them as a primary or secondary weapon.
I use a class 3 pulse laser to supplement my chieftain’s plasma and railguns because it does as much damage as a smaller beam laser while using less power for some reason.
Multi canons and canons are my go-to’s. Doesn’t produce heat like lasers and stuff
I love your videos and your accent is great!
GLaD you like it. You'd be one of us =}
Laughs in anaconda completely fitted with Swarm Rockets
The only somewhat combat ship I have is a really shitty ASP X that I used as a support vessel during the Coalsack Expedition CG when wings would fight Thargoids.
Like the shout out to 40k Orks. Dakka!
Hey bud love your videos was funny watch yous doing your race lol 😂 at least you never came in last ;)
A cutter with a heavy shielded and massive power generator, i either go multi-cannons with high capacity for more bullets and one huge pulse laser or go all in the the burst lasers for versatility. Beam lasers for a very high power generator sounds nice with turrets but forgetting to set them forward to get a target then letting them go to work seems a bit of a problem for me, manual locking and allowing the turrets to do their thing is a bit of a hassle.
just set them to fire at will
Have a Chieftain with combo of Plasma and fixed cannons, It works for me, it kills whatever I shoot quickly. I have fun with that. Other then that I'm a huge fan of Multi Cannons with Rails on my Fer De Lance.
Plasma's are usefull when you have high turning rate ships they suck if you cant get into position on bigger ships turret mc's and beams with some engineering are pretty damn deadly
My seeker missile seem to do no damage against NPC. I could shoot 20 before of destroying an NPC 👀
If you want to make a perfect balance between lasers and multicannons in your build where will you throw all your lasers to add more multicannons instead?
my first favorit was the shotgun on my ship. It was fun to destroy pirates .... but than i needed to fight expert-pirates and higher.... my shotguns didnt work so well there :D
You can use beam lasers are a guide for fixed weapons Ido this with rail guns
NGL I cheese the hell out of targets by using tier-2 beams for shields and then subtarget the power plant with tier-1 missiles. XD
You know what would be TRULY op?
A third weapons firing button.
Some rudder control would be nice also.
There is rudder control... look in your key setup.
pulse + multicannons seems to be the most efficient ship weapons
Side Note- ECM hard counters packhounds, but you have to actively use it.
And time it corectly
MCs are probably the best. Then plasma, then phasing pulse. IMO.
