  • This is how to fix one of the two causes of your LG refrigerator making a lot of vibration noise.
One cause is in the rear panel near that fan. The other cause, what we're looking at today, is inside the freezer compartment.
First you need to remove the drawer inserts.
The middle comes out first and just slides out.
The top comes out next, which has tabs on either side on the rails you need to press outwards, and then it lifts out.
Finally once you have those clear, list the main freezer insert in the bottom out.
Now you need to take the door off of the rails. There are 4 Phillips screws on each side (I said 3 in the video, but there's 4) remove these and the door. It helps to have someone hold it, but it's light enough to hold yourself while you take it off, especially if you have an electric screw driver to make it quick.
Now you need to remove the top rails. There are 3 screws on each side. Remove these and the rails.
Next take the rear panel off. There are 3 tabs on the bottom that lift up. You lift these up and slide the panel down a bit.
    DO NOT pull it out!
There are 4 electrical plugs to remove, press the tabs and remove them.
Once the plugs are free, remove the panel.
If there is ice build up as it was with mine, use a hair dryer or heat gun to remove it.
The ice was what was pushing out the panel so it wasn't latching and making it vibrate with the fan.
Dry up any water and clean the freezer while you're in there.
    Now reverse the disassembly.
CONGRATULATIONS! You have just fixed your vibrating fan noise on your refrigerator!

    UPDATE: OUR FRIDGE IS DEAD!
THIS IS THE WORST REFRIGERATOR ON THE PLANET!
So we have a 5 year extended warranty on it. We had someone come "fix the problem" by moving the sensor.
Well it came back. We called in another tech after it did this for like 2 weeks, but it kept coming and going, so I thought the worked and it was defrosting.
It took them a good 3 weeks to get out here. At the start of week 3, it stopped cooling completely. Apparently it did this so long, that the fan broke and the compressor went out from overheating or something.
We have been without a fridge for 2 weeks today and they'll be out Friday to get it fixed, hopefully. If not, I'm making sure they buy us out of it.
We will not be buying another LG and definitely not a Samsung that I hear is worse.

Friend, my wife and I thank you!!! We could not figure out what that noise was. You probably saved us a couple of hundred dollars.

Well it's a temporary fix. You either do this every 3-6 months when it acts up or you get the part fixed. We have a warranty on ours, but haven't got someone to come out and fix it soon enough before it drives us crazy and I break down to do it myself again. I bought this fridge new in 08/2019 and have had to do it at least 5 times and it just started doing it again this week too.

Thanks for the tip on using the hairdryer. It worked! No need to remove the door or the lower bin though. I just turned off the fridge from the electrical panel, plugged the hair dryer into an extension cord and aimed it at the sealed fan casing for a couple minutes. Now it's quiet!

Thank you for this video. I was having this issue and I started to follow the process you outlined. However, when I got the freezer emptied and the drawers out, I decided to plug the fridge back in. The noise was gone. So in my case, I think it was overstuffing the fridge or maybe a smaller bit of ice.
In any case, emptying and cleaning seems to have resolved it for now. I probably would have dithered around and done a lot more useless stuff without this video.

Thank your for your video. I didn't attempt to take the drawer out or remove that panel. I just opened the freezer door all the way, stuck my arm in with a hair dryer, and pushed it up against all those opening and around that area for about 10-15 minutes and the vibration finally stopped after about a week of nonstop noise lol. I guess just melting some of the ice helped for now.

UPDATE: 4 months ago I had a LG tech come out to fix this.
They said that it was a known defect and the defrost sensor was installed in the wrong position on some of these fridges, so it would freeze up before it triggered automatic defrost.
The fix was to relocate it.
It starts making the noise still for a day or two, but then goes away for a few weeks. I think the sensor is working and triggering defrost, but it may be a tad late and need to be moved slightly again for completely quiet operation.

I found what causes this is the vertical plastic breather tube in the back of the fridge on the bottom right into a drip pan. Just take off the bottom cover and remove the tube, it's about 6 inches long and easy to remove and install, then clean it out, dirt and dust block the tube causing freeze up. These tubes get clogged periodicity and will cause ice build up around the fan, after manually defrosting clean the tube and you will be good.

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure why it would get clogged after 6 months from new, but it makes sense. I did have a LG tech come out to fix it this last week as it started up again. They said that it was a known defect and the defrost sensor was installed in the wrong position on some of these fridges, so it would freeze up before it triggered automatic defrost. The fix was to relocate it. If this happens again I'll definitely check that breather tube.

I'm glad I could help. My refrigerator seems to do this every 3-6 months. There's an underlying issue, but I can't get a tech out in time before it drives me crazy and have to defrost it myself. When they get there, they say nothing's wrong. I'll pin a comment when I actually have them do a permanent fix.

Update: I'm not sure why this is happening. The refrigerator was purchased brand new August 2019. I did this the first time when I posted this video. I just had to do it again last night after it had been making this noise for a week. The ice is always built up on the left side of the condenser.
It seems like this is having to be done about every 6 months or so.
This is not normal for a refrigerator, especially a $3,000 refrigerator.

Ours is the same way. My husband has to take it apart again tomorrow. The computer board has been replaced, the compressor also. This will be the third time taking freezer apart to get rid of ice build up. Over a $2000.00 refrigerator and it’s a piece of junk

I had this problem within 30 days of buying the refrigerator in 2018. The Fan in the freezer area had to be replaced because it was giving a defrost code. Four years later after theWarranty at Lowe’s expires it’s making that buzzing noise… Which is annoying I will try your trick. But mine is cooling just fine. I should have insisted that they replace the whole refrigerator when a part went bad within 30 days of by buying. This has been the worst $3000 upgraded investment I’ve ever purchased in the fridge

i have the new LG french door LFNS22520. the most annoying thing about this fridge is every single time i open or close door doesn't matter left or right hand side, the fridge also have a sound of shelves vibrating. dont' see the shelves really vibrate i really don't know what the issue is. it's not constant noises. this fridge is new. so it really is when you open and close doors. very very annoying. please anyone can help. appreciate it.

I honestly have no idea as I have a different refrigerator and don't do a lot of appliance repair. I just posted this because I found a fix for my issue and figured I'd share to help anyone else with the same issue.
My first thought is that one or more shelves might not be properly secured. Double check all of the mounting points and make sure any glass inserts are fully down as well as any sliding sections are fully locked in position.

Our fridge was purchased on March 12th of this year. It is buzzing and I can't stand it. Of course it's an LG piece of CRAP. I somehow let myself be stupidly talked into another LG fridge after our other one froze everything. Now this freaking thing vibrates/buzzes ALL day and night, intermittently. I can hear it from different rooms of the house. Enough to make you insane. Enough for that sound to be in your head, even when you're out of the house. I've got an LG technician coming here to look at it this morning. If they tell me it's just a normal part of the fridge's function I'm going to lose it. We also spent 3K. I'm so angry.

    • @phathomthis
      @phathomthis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not normal. A tech came out and replaced a sensor in the freezer where I show in the video. He said a lot of them also had it installed in the wrong location and moved it. Our fridge will still start to make noise from time to time, but then I think the sensor trips, and triggers the defrost on it. It then goes away for weeks before starting to slightly make the noise again for a day or so and then repeats. So I think it's working as intended, even though I'd prefer silent operation at all times. Bring up the sensor location to the LG tech and see what they say about it.

@@phathomthis oh dang, I read this after the technician came. He unscrewed the back panel, used an electrical drill to tighten a few things and then told me it probably wouldnt help and I should sell it on kijiji!! Wtf?
Thanks anyway for your reply. 😊

@@phathomthis I forgot to say thank you for your reply. A 2nd LG technician is coming tomorrow and I will definitley bring this up. The fridge is still vibrating and buzzing. Oddly, one time when I kept the door open, it stopped.

@@wnddyer Did you resolve this? We have had the LFXS28968S model, and the buzzing has been driving me crazy for several weeks. It is better now that I leveled the unit better, but it still buzzes when I open the right door. Tech seems to have no idea how to fix it.
