    I have been challenged by a refrigerator going on 2+ weeks when, finally 2 women's comments came up with "what worked for them". A hair dryer! And it worked!
    Thank you ladies 😊

    I NEVER COMMENT ON VIDEOS....but your video was perfect and helped me FINALLY take care of the noisy GE refrigerator. Initially I replaced the evaporator fan and needless to say, the noise stuck around. Found your video and wa-la it's fixed. Best wishes!

    Thanks. This should fix the grinding noise that spontaneously comes out of my refrigerator about 2 to 3 times per day. Very annoying!

    Thank you for the video, it provided a fantastic reference for me to replace my fan. No more noisy growling coming from the kitchen. Taking pics with your phone is always a great tip when taking things apart. Thx, again Jim

    Hello. My GE GSS20IETA refrigerator makes a loud, rapid knocking sound at the end of a motor/fan cycle. I'm guessing the evaporator motor/fan cycle, but I'm really not sure. Can you give me an idea what's causing the noise and how to fix it? Thanks. John

    Well with mine I had that horrible noise for the longest time then no ice production. Well the sound stopped out of the blue and I noticed …. More like room air coming from the side vents on the left of the fridge going into the freezer where the ice comes out. Any ideas????? I sure miss ice with my sweet tea

      Cool yes. But it doesn't let me hear the refrigerator's sound. We want to know about the sound problem, so the music is annoying.

    I have this same fridge. My fridge is 63 degrees, my freezer is around 15 degrees...No loud noises. What part needs replacement for this issue? I removed back panel on the back of fridge and vacuumed some dust off the black circular piece but otherwise looks clean (although there is some dust I can't reach since I currently don't know how to remove the part yet) do you think the dust is the culprit or a fan issue or something else?

      On mine, like this fridge, but a but newer (touch pad front panel/water and ice dispenser), I had a bad fresh food circulator fan. In this video, you can see it when he takes the large back plate which covers the evaporator coils at 5:09. It's not the one he replaces. The fan is blowing up the center ducting in the back of the fridge. Located right above the coils. My problem was the fan wasn't blowing fast enough and the could were frosting over. This led to the too section bring in the high 50's low 60's for the temp.i replaced the fan, and the new fan came with a software update. The software module gets plugged in to a port (looks like a phone plug) in the top of one of the fridge doors. I think it was the left one, but I forget now. There's a compartment in the other door also. It's where I found the technical manual which shows the airflow diagram some electrical schematics and how to enter the self diagnostic protocol. On mine, there is a front button combination that you push, then you can run a diagnostic test. The fridge will probably tell you what's wrong with itself. I figured out my issue before I found the diagnostic stuff. I was about 95% sure and the diagnostic confirmed it. Other potential problems leading to warm temps in the fresh food section could be: 1. the heating element which periodically defrosts the evaporator coils. 2. A bad bimetal thermostat (turns on or off the defrost heater). 3. A bad temperature sensor (giving the computer the wrong temp reading and messing up the defrost/cooling cycles). And, 4. A bad circulator fan. There are other issues, but I think these are the most common. I also initially thought my coils under the fridge were dusty. That can cause cooling issues because the compressor works harder to pump the refrigerant. But the design of this fridge doesn't seem to collect a lot of dust like older styles. The condenser coils are behind a panel that's screwed on, so it's not as easily accessible, but worth checking every so often. I know your post is several months old, do maybe this will help someone.

  • @dinosaurkillers
    @dinosaurkillers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    There is a fan that sends cold air to the ice maker and is turned on when the door is closed. Where is that fan? That is probably the true noise source.

    Hi there, I have a pfe29psdcss , and I have exactly this issue. Do I need a software update?

    • @DIYRepairsNow
      @DIYRepairsNow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For my understanding you don’t need a software update for this motor you do need a software update for the refrigerator evaporator fan motor

    • @arshamshah
      @arshamshah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DIYRepairsNow Thanks, I figured that part out, and mine is Feb 2014 so it doesn't require a software update. I just took apart mine and both of my fans are broken (both the damper fan and the evap fan). I ordered both. But was wondering if you know what each one of these do. Is my understanding correct: The evap fan is responsible for cooling the entire fridge. The damper fan is responsible for the bottom drawer?

    • @DIYRepairsNow
      @DIYRepairsNow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arsham Shahlari That’s correct that damper and that fan controls the drawers

    • @arshamshah
      @arshamshah 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYRepairsNow Does that mean that I wouldn't necessarily need that fan and damper as long as I set my drawer to 43 (and the main fridge to lower, maybe 37)? I have heard the damper and fan controlling the drawer breaks often, so don't want to waste $80 on something I won't miss. Thanks for your replies, and thanks for the video.

    Hey I did this fix but the new fan doesnt seem to come on. Before going through the whole installation I plugged in the new fan and pushed both buttons to "close" the doors. The fan didn't spin up. Should it always run when the doors are closed? Could there be a short in the board of the fridge? Hope you get this!

    • @DIYRepairsNow

      Paul E Besides the two light switches it's a magnetic switch The only way you will be able to see if it's working it's put your phone inside and close the doors most likely he's working a problem on the board is not common

    • @paule9818
      @paule9818 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DIYRepairsNow thanks. I noticed before the installation the actual temperature was about 8 degrees warmer than the set temp. A few hours after they both matched at 37 degrees. Looks like it's working. Thanks for the awesome video. $80 part and easy install.

    • @dinosaurkillers
      @dinosaurkillers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@paule9818 My GE PYE23PSDASS refrigerator had the same problem. I later discovered that the noise was actually from the fan motor that pushes the cold air to the ice maker which is within the left door. That design has its intrinsic drawback because the cold air has to travel a long distance from the freezer to the front door, whose insulation is always poor. The solution is rather simple. Just INCREASE the freezer temperature! My guess is that the freezing temperature somehow obstructs the fan or causes the frost/ice to build up in the motor. It was not the damper fan that blows the air to the fresh food drawer. The damper fan is not controlled by the door opening or closing.

    Our fridge is freezing food in the top section of the same fridge -- can this same part cause that? WR60X23104? Usually, the issue is that top part is not getting cold but I have opposite problem. It's getting too cold.

    With these fridges, look for compartments in the tops of the doors. One should have the technical manual which will give airflow diagrams, schematics, and the diagnostic codes, etc.. Most of these appliances have a self diagnostic protocol which can help figure out what's going wrong. Mine had a software port in one of the doors. A new fresh food circulator fan (the one located right above the evap coils) came with a software update which gets plugged in to the port in the top of one of the doors. FYI....
