    OMG you are a lifesaver. Had this awful noise for a few months now, Super loud cranking. Did not even realize there was an ice maker. I just noticed the settings, small, medium, large icecubes? and a button next to it. I turned it off and it kicked into the regular sound. I had a ton of stuff in the freezer during the Holidays so something accidentally pushed against the button and turned it on. So happy it was not the compressor going bad.

    Wow - thank you for the video! Turns out that our ice maker had accidentally been turned on by food we had piled up in the freezer. Every hour or so it would make a loud electrical/buzzing/crunching noise like something was trying to turn on but it couldn't, and I was worried that it was on its last leg (it's only 4 years old). Very happy with this "fix"... as easy and inexpensive as it gets!!! :)

    Check for an ice chunk buildup on the rotating mechanism of your evaporator fan/motor. That would make an imbalance and cause buzzing/humming noise.
    Evaporator fan stops when you open the freezer door.
    To get to the evaporator, you’ll probably have to empty out entire freezer, remove some shelf rails, and remove the back panel cover.

    Geeze I don't believe this. I've been trying FOR MONTHS to find out what was causing this annoying loud intermittent buzzing noise in my fridge, I even changed out the black 'compressor starter relay thingy', thinking that was the problem (it obviously wasn't!). In desperation I came back to YT tonight at 2AM because the switching on & off noise was driving me nuts, and I found your video. And in 10 seconds, the problem is fixed! Yup, it was my icemaker with the arm set in the down 'on' position, and the fridge has no water line to it. I'll fix that water line later, but at least now I can sleep at night and not worry about when my fridge is about to explode or just die! 🤣
    THANK YOU for posting this little gem of a solution for us dummies who can't figure these things out ourselves! And from the comments, I can see I'm not the only one! Cheers!

    My Maytag makes a loud buzzing sound coming from the back when the water is coming into the machine to fill the ice maker.
    I believe that it is the water value. I also discovered that the installers connect the water line to the hot water side of a source although it is a long distance away from the frig. Is that a problem? It doesn't seem to effect the ice itself.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching & we appreciate you reaching out to us. Your water line feeding water to your refrigerator will travel through a hard copper line to a shutoff valve.
      What color is the valve?

    • @mrsjmb1967
      @mrsjmb1967 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DIYwithMichaelBorders I can see the water valve on the back of the unit. The water line enters the back of the machine about half way up from the floor and there is no access to any part of the back. I also can’t see any access from the inside of the unit. Thanks for the reply. Does it feed into the floor? Do you have a drop ceiling on the floor level below the floor at which your refrigerator is on? If yes, you can gain access to the lower plumbing that feeds through the floor.

    • @mrsjmb1967
      @mrsjmb1967 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it feeds into the floor. It’s a direct line to the water pipe beginning with copper, then braided hose and then plastic into the rear of the frig. Shut off is at the water pipe 30 feet away. Previous frig with ice maker it not make the loud buzzing during water flow.

    Thank you to the moon and back! This solved our problem! No more buzzing! We decided to disconnect the water line for the fridge. Never liked the taste of the water or ice, plus filters are stupid expensive. I kept hearing our fridge buzzing, but the fridge isn't that old and still works like it should (knock on wood). I've been worried I would come home to a warm fridge and spoiled food. It's cold 🥶 as it has always been. I made sure the ice maker was off and it was indeed on. 🤦‍♀️ Ours has the wire arm that springs down to turn on the ice maker. You can pull up the wire bar to turn it off, but it can easily fall down if slightly bumped turning it back on. I guess if it falls down again, I'll rig it up and tie it up somehow so it doesn't fall down into the on position. Stupid design on our fridge. Just incorporate a toggle switch like on the fridge you have. Thanks again.

      Thanks for watching & we hope the video helped. Is LG refrigerator brand new? If yes, did you allow the new refrigerator to sit upright & stationery not plugged in...aka “unplugged” for at least 3 hours. This is required in order for all of the internal fluids to properly settle.
      If plugged in before this time period, you will experience these symptoms...& this is for all manufacturers...not just LG.

    We just bought New Samsung Frost free Double Door fridge 5in1 convertible. Nothing inside fridge and freezer. After say 4/5 minutes of turning on this digital inverter RT45M5538BS 415 litre fridge, it is making constant humming high pitched (but not solo loud, just electronic noise) noise/sound is coming. It is just half an hour the fridge is running so far. No Ice maker switch here in this model. But I switched off the freezer compartment. Will look for the noise after that, and will try to keep ice maker in it. Just your opinion needed sir. Love from India❤️

      Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. After your new refrigerator arrives, it is recommended to allow the refrigerator to sit in the unplugged/off position for a minimum of 3 hours.
      This allows all the refrigerant & parts to stabilize prior to adding power. This may be causing the humming/vibrating sounds.
      You may need to unplug refrigerator for a bit & try it again.

      Thanks for watching & that’s no fun. By chance did you allow the refrigerator to sit stationary and unplugged for several hours after it was delivered?
      By doing this, you ensure that all the internal fluids properly balance which alleviates many problems when being plugged in for first time.

      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Well…we can alleviate the option shown in this video as your cause…as you mentioned…😎👍
      It may be as simple as shifting food a bit so the vents are not blocked. Blocked vents can cause back-flow and vibration.
      If that doesn’t help, next common cause is ice buildup on vents. You may need to shift some food a bit to gain access to the vents that push ice cold air into freezer to maintain it’s temperature.
      If you see any ice buildup, you will need to CAREFULLY remove ice. Keep us posted and hey if you’re into crypto trading, check out our newly launched DIY ecosystem.

      Thanks for watching & great question. You may have a compressor causing the humming/buzzing noise. How old is refrigerator?

      Thanks for the reply. 4 months old is very young. We’d be shocked if the compressor is weakening.
      Did you allow refrigerator to sit 3-5 hours upright & unplugged prior to plugging in for the first time? This is important as it allows all of the internal fluids to properly set.
      Below is a link to our video that talks about this.

      Thanks for the reply & it’s possible that unplugging it & allowing it to sit for 3 to 5 hours to allow internal fluids to settle and then re-plugging refrigerator in may help.
      We recommend doing this on a day that you have very little inside your refrigerator and freezer. Keep us posted.

    I have a Samsung fridge. Fridge was setup by the guys who delivered it. When the compressor is on it is loud. It's a brand new fridge with a manufacturer date of 3 months ago.

      Thanks for sharing your comment. By chance...when the refrigerator was delivered, they should have advised you that the refrigerator must sit level, stationary, & unplugged for a minimum of 3-5 hours. This allows all internal fluids and refrigerant to properly settle prior to being plugged in.
      We really enjoy making these helpful videos for our fellow DIY’ers. Many more helpful videos to come! 😀

      If the refrigerator was dropped off and immediately plugged in....this will lead to improper stress on the compressor.

      Thanks for watching. We recommend contacting customer support and letting them know that there is a buzzing sound. It’s important to do that now because if you wait too long...they may not be as helpful.
      Customer support may tell you to wait a few days & see if the buzzing goes away. Some refrigerator’s work themselves out after an hour or two however several days of buzzing is NOT NORMAL. 😬

      verity mabunda
      Thanks for watching. It depends on the severity of the humming. Loud noises...no.
      When refrigerator temperature drops below the preset temp, the compressor turns on & begins the cooling process. That makes a little bit of noise however nothing that would make you think...hhhhmmm that’s not normal.

      Thanks for the reply, that’s great to hear...how new is it? If it was just delivered, it’s very important to allow your refrigerator to sit in the unplugged & off configuration for a minimum of 5 to 7 hours before plugging in.
      This will ensure that all internal refrigerant and components properly settle.
