Worked great for me using an electric leaf blower and room temperature air. I simply removed the large bins in the bottom and slid out the middle tray. I didn't otherwise need to disassemble any of the doors like you did here. I blew air into the 3 holes at the bottom center that you pointed out. Only took about 5 minutes of blowing. Thanks for the great repair tip! Addendum: I later found out that this issue can be caused by a leaking seal around the ice maker door. Mine had frost on the rubber seal. Leaking seals increase the humidity in the freezer compartment. Check and clean the seals on both the ice maker door and all the fridge doors. If the seals work properly, the automatic freezer defrosting cycle should take care of preventing ice build up in the freezer compartment, including the fan.

Wow-- you saved us from a freezer full of lost food and a big repair bill as this happened to us today-- at the beginning of a three-day weekend!!! And we too, did not need to remove the exterior front drawer, just the interior drawers. Thank you so very much!!
Thanks to your video, I found the problem, except in my case, it wasn’t the fan but the small brass coils vibrating against the compressor. Adjusting the legs stopped the noise temporarily but it would come back when the fridge was moved. Luckily I had a PC Richard’s extended warranty. Their tech finally got rid of it for good by moving coils away from the compressor. I told him about the fan noise thanks to this video so he opened the back and found the coil issue.

You were absolutely right! There was a glacier of ice back there, also you can pull that back panel off as well to access everything behind it.. 3 wiring connecters to look out for.. fixed my problem

This morning I noticed the door was slightly opened and when I closed it, the fan started making a loud buzzing sound. So I take the top drawers out and break off all the ice that accumulated, but it kept making noise and I knew there was ice on the fan but I thought it will break off eventually but it didn't. So after watching your video I got the blow dryer and melted the ice. I could see the water slowly dripping down...thank you! ❄️
This video is of great help. I rigged up a hair blow dry on a piece of Styrofoam and profit in the fridge for about 10 minutes. Blew it on warm right at the motor. Turned on the fridge and it was quiet as the day it was bought.

Yup, this was my hypothesis as well. I can't tell you how many times I came down in the morning to find the bottom drawer open about 1/2" and stuff in the top was unthawed. I think over a period of time it builds up ice in the back, and it a heat source to melt it fast back there. I stuck my hairdryer in there for about 30 minutes and that finally melted it off that freezer fan.
Ours was making a grinding noise every time we got groceries. It was not level, however, there are no leveling screws in the back of the refrigerator so it was actually impossible to make correct. We ended up pulling out the refrigerator, putting a thin vinyl layer on the back, and then pushing the refrigerator back so it tilted less backwards.
Thank you! My LG does this about one a year. The past two years we've pulled everything out and unplugged the refrigerator for at least 2 days (suggested by repair person). This worked like a charm! I could hear the ice breaking behind the back wall and water trickling down. Took maybe 90 minutes because I let it sit for a bit before plugging back in.
Thanks, I needed to give the outside of the fan a couple of light taps with a hammer and I could hear ice falling from the fan, and that seemed to do the trick. Appreciate pointing me in the right direction.
@@MichaelTolbert Ya, check the back of your freezer and see if there is ice in the holes in the back. The reason the noise stops is that the fan stops whenever you open the door so that it doesn't blow cold air out of the refrigerator or freezer.
I have an LG fridge and noticed this knocking sound in the freezer, I believe related to the ice maker. It makes ice just fine but, I can't figure out why its making that sound. Does anyone know what might be going on? I just have it turned off since, it can be really annoying and, sometimes it wont stop. The freezer closes just fine so, idk if it's the same problem that you had.
There's a known issue with these fridges. If it happens again, change the controller on the right side of the evap. It's a little part in a red plastic sheath. That tells the fridge how cold everything is and when to start a defrost cycle.
I just got an LG delivered yesterday I don’t have the water and ice hooked up yet but it’s making too loud knocking noises once in a while. Ugh. Can’t be the compressor because it’s not on!

I have done same. But never need to unscrew the drawer. I let it melt the ice overnight. Usually a big ice chunk drops out in 10-12 hours

I used a hair dryer to melt it. The freezer has to close completely to avoid the problem again.
It probably means your evaporator fan motor is about to go out, thus the ice.
