    In this fast and quick tutorial, I explain how to take your procedural grass setup and give it a basic render pass in Redshift. This tutorial does not cover how to render the grass in Mantra, however, it will have similar concepts to rendering in Mantra. I will say, a lot of making good looking rendering has to do with good lighting setups, so with the scope of this quick tutorial I am not able to cover lighting, but that will help your grass look much much better.

    nice vid, would be really interested about how you did the cube ground(the image at the start of the vid) with rocks and every thing

      Thanks! basically grabbed a cube, and displaced it a bit so it wasn't uniform. Then I projected a dirt texture on in, and combined it with the grass. I also scatter a few small stones and pebbles randomly around it to make sure it didn't feel like a repeating texture -- I know that is very brief, but that's the quick 20 second explanation -- hopefully that helps in at least a small way.

    Redshift renders lines and curves as strands as explained here, FOR MANTRA USERS - Houdini will render curves without any trouble, or checking boxes. You can control the thickness of your grass blades with a "width" attribute when rendering in Mantra.

      Hi, I got it working in Mantra, tho I don't know how to get the Cd color on to the surface material. It's just a solid color. I tried changing diffuse to Cd, is that right?
      Edit: Nevermind, im stpid, just had to change bind from Vector to 3 Float Vector.

      I think that'd be a great idea for later down the road. Currently I'm putting all my efforts toward getting my own premium site and learning courses up. From there I'll be able to post more free materials and also offer more in depth experiences.

    Hello! So I watched your first tutorial and got stuck on the lerp....I either got the code wrong or there was something I missed that I didn't name correctly.
    On this tutorial, I am stuck on how you added the RS Material. I'm on the Material folder but its not popping up in the search for the RS Material.
    I have to also say, this is my first time using Houdini and opened the software today. I got to try the program for University on my own laptop at home since corona, so I'm trying to take advantage of it by teaching myself through tutorials.

      I have CVEX Shader Builder or RSL Material popping up in the search bar

    • @mrbennelson
      @mrbennelson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh awesome, yeah it’s a great time to learn right now. So RS stands for RedShift which is a third party renderer that you’d have to purchase separately. So in your case since you’re using it at University, you will probably only be able to render with Mantra. This tutorial is to show people how to render only in Redshift. I listed in the comments a few tips on how to get started with mantra. Hope that helps, and good luck!

    Sorry to disturb you. I don't know why. It doesn't seem to work when I render in mantra. Once I render to the bias I created in attribute VOP, my render view is black. Could

      @@ili76767 the thickness of a line in mantra is controlled by the "width" attribute. Check your geometry spreadsheet to make sure the attributes are set correctly. It's hard to say exactly once wrong since I can't see your scene.
