I think he would have gladly let them examine the rope or mug, but not the yellow cloth. There was sleight of hand in a couple of bits (and magnetic assistance) but I don't want to ruin the trick by saying anymore. It was very well done
He covered the real handle from the time he took it from the assistant and yes, added a magnetic handle and pulled it off during the drop. The drop reveals the handle on the lower side. It didn't have time to turn 180° from the drop point. The extra handle was hidden in the cloth. Great trick.
I only watched it once and i am surprised you fooled them. As soon as you grabbed the cloth to block the view i was suspicious as to what else may be in it. But the way you palmed the handle made it even more clear to me. You definitely have a magnetic personality and you have a handle on things. I would guess the hardest part is to prevent noise of metal on magnet. Did you use something to soften the sound? Or was it just fine motor skills at work? Good performance none the less.
Great routine. I THINK I have a handle on how it was done. But I had to watch it a couple times before I grabbed it. Still a very great and fun routine. Well done!!
That was great! I was totally attracted by the way you handled that last mug. I can without a doubt say you were not lying about a mug swap, or any other means. The best part about it, was you showed them how you were going to do the trick before doing it.
"you were not lying about a mug swap" Even if he wanted to lie about there being a swap or not, he can't. Part of the process of the show is explaining how it is done to a magic consultant that is part of the Fool Us crew and they listen to Penn and Teller's deliberations and it is their ruling that determines if it's a fool or not. So even if he lied, the consultant would overrule the fool.
My guess is at 5:10 he rotates the cup to hide the real handle and attaches a breakaway handle that was concealed in the cloth. When he lowers the cup, he does it by the lip of the cup, not the handle so it doesn't break away early.
That is exactly what I believe he did as well. Magnetic handle perhaps, but you can clearly see him rotate the mug before he puts the rope through the handle he added.
You can actually see the real handle at 5:18 just before the camera cuts to another angle. His thumb is resting on the real handle and the small gap between his hand and the mug exposes it. Something you'd likely never notice in person unless you happened to be at the perfect angle like the camera was.
This felt like they knew what the trick was and played into the act and the code at the end. Gimmick, by the move needed to drop it off, especially since he used rings before, but the whole act was so good, so fun and clean, guy deserved that trophy. Great tribute act. ❤

So good! "I'm going to show you how a magic trick works". I love that you literally did, its so clever. Both of the two pervious mug on rope sections of the act weren't just there for entertainment but actually "show you how the magic trick works". Wow I'm mind blown.
look at where the handle is when it drops out of the cloth. There was a second handle that he added that stayed in the cloth. this one was rather easy to spot
Such a lovely act. There is a lot of beauty in the methods of so many tricks and I always appreciate a trick that lets the audience in on some methodology. I also appreciate a bit of an homage to one of the rope acts P&T have done. The final effect is super well done and extremely clean. I don't think there is enough to glean the method, from the footage alone. There are some potential leads, but nothing concrete. Really lovely effect and execution. I look forward to figuring out the method at some point.
There definitely is, but it was a very fun act. At 4:47 he reveals part of what makes this work, and at 5:11 watch how he handles the mug before he puts the rope through.
@TheGoatFish And actually at 5:18 you can see the real handle under his thumb right before the camera cuts to a different angle. (Probably cut because they realized it happened to be the perfect angle to see the handle through the small gap between his hand and the mug). Not to take anything from the trick, this was amazing. I especially love the clues he sprinkled in the routine. It was a risky move but made it that much more memorable when it succeeded.
SPOILER ALERT, if you don't want to know how this trick is done, stop reading now....... This one is so simple that it will be quite short to explain. We already now the mug is metallic and also ferromagnetic like the red one which has magnetically attached to the assistant's helmet. Now, when Giancarlo brings the yellow cloth, he secretly takes an extra mug handle equiped with magnets so it can stick on the mug, then he sticks it on the mug and hides the real handle with his left hand. He then threads the rope through the magnetic handle and covers all with the cloth. Finally, when he pulls the cloth up and lest the mug fall, what he is doing is actually pulling the magnetic handle from the mug and keeps it hidden inside or under the yellow cloth. And when he catches the mug with his left hand, he makes sure to expose the real handle, but if you look closely, the handle is on the bottom side of the mug when it should have been on the top side as the mug was hunging from the handle.
@MagicMatt504 uh, nah, that's actually exactly how it's done. You can see him pull the magnetic handle off with the handkerchief, and the mug drops handle-first - the real handle is in the same position it was when his hand was covering it before putting on the handkerchief.
@@MagicMatt504 you can clearly see when he sticks the magnetic handle on the mug, also you can clearly see the rope going through the hadle, it has nothing to do with friction. The only physical way to perform this trick is with a second (removable) handle.
@@manusoftar I wouldn't say that's the only way to perform the trick -- but it's the way that fooled them. My first thought was that he switched the mug, so this was not the one that had been examined, and the handle was removable. P&T don't have the luxury of re-watching, or more than two minutes to figure it out.
Over the years i have found that when Penn says outright what he supposedly thinks the magician did, it is always a lead in to saying they were fooled.
I got it on the second viewing. You did a good job hiding the move needed to make it work. This was a lot riskier to do with two non-stooges on stage with you. Great trick. I like that it ends clean and everything can be inspected. Also appreciated the Slydini nod of involving the audience in the earlier two tricks.
@berninimagic This is 1 of 4 tricks on this show I couldn't figure out. The fact that you are able to drop the rope at the end is what amazes me. And your hand appears to be doing nothing but grabbing the handle... I'm truly puzzled. They even showed close ups on your hands... Well done! I don't get to be surprised often... This was great!
@@austingeorge6659 I get fooled all the time, but this one was easy to figure out. There was one gimmick (likely magnetic) handle that he attached to the mug, all while palming/ covering up the actual fixed handle. See 5:19. Then when he drops the mug at the end, the gimmick handle detaches (and stays hidden underneath the cloth) in his right hand. See 5:58.
I have an idea as how I would make this trick work. There was definitely no mug switch, or a handle with a gap. But there was a handle involved. Great trick and loved the presentation and banter in the beginning.
It's really simple: Giancarlo has a flattened Manzini wrapped in a foil ridge-header, which magnetises to a low Blackmore Potting Shaft, intertwined through a looping fist-bump Hopper mechanism. When the drip-tray level sinks below the rope's centre of gravity, a tiny Weasel Stamp (concealed in his shoe) rises up to release the tension at the point where the edge of a Cricket Clapper sticks out above the cover hiding an Elephant Gate Snap Jacket. Under cover of that, he just re-threads the Manzini's main sprocket with his left hand, as his right hand, right foot and his elbow simultaneously execute a super-quick Houdini's Handcuff's sleight to re-attach both ends at the centre, held together with a Slydini Safety Pin concealed in a Copperfield Crossbow. Sorry to expose the trick, but it's just SO obvious! 🤣😉

Apparently it's not that obvious to P&T. They got conned on this one, he deserved the win. They thought he switched the mug, obviously they fell into the trap. This was a trick specifically designed to make them think he was just really good at switching the mug but before I even read this I knew he didn't it was clear misdirection that they would assume he went behind and was handling the mug, therefore mug switch. Technically he did not switch the mug, he "modified" it briefly. Hey, it fooled 'em.
What a wonderful performance! Obviously very inspired by the P&T trick "Stupid", this actually takes that concept and in many ways, does it even better! Really a delightful performance and a well-deserved trophy :)
A very simple yet very difficult trick. Your sleight and misdirection are top notch. You even showed Penn and Teller exactly how it works and they didn't see it.
2 handles on the blue cup, the real one, and a magnetic one added when the yellow cloth came in play. Pass the rope thru the magnetic handle while hidind the real handle. Magnetic handle is inside the yellow cloth on the table at the end.
5:05 he reaches into the box to get his cloth and picks up a 2nd "fake" blue handle hidden in the cloth, then threads the rope through the fake handle while hiding the real handle under his thumb pointing it towards his body @ 5:20 @ 5:55 he is holding the fake handle and rope then drops at 5:57 where the real handle is directly pointing down, the opposite from where he is supposedly holding it on the rope, then lets go of the rope and keeps a hold of the fake handle under the cloth, holding the cloth like it's empty. This was a brilliantly executed and impressive performance
And I think it's a strong enough magnet that can hold the cup on the rope, but still weak enough that he can squeeze his finger forcibly to pull it out
If this is true, the trick is even more impressive, because he's shown us how it's done. In the first trick he attaches the mug to a fake part of the rope; in the final trick he attaches the rope to a fake part of the mug. Not to mention that if magnets are involved he pretty much showed them openly during the second trick.
I love every single little trick you added to the routine :) Not sure whether it’s your magnetism, but you handled the show pretty well, I couldn’t see anything and was also fooled :)
For a moment I was scared he was actually just gonna tell everyone the right answer lol. But once he said "thread", I was like "wait did I just fool them"
People who want to watch every segment and have the suspense tend to watch live on the CW. Most people on TH-cam just search specifically for the Foolers
Great trick ,but it's such a shame that you felt you had to ruin the surprise by spoiling the result in the title. It's amazing that the show runners let you post your shows on TH-cam but there should be a clause in the contract against putting the result in the title as many magicians don't seem to know any better :(.
I think the title kind of feeds the point of being pretty transparent and not hiding things. But even so, knowing that is is a successful fooling, did it make you enjoy the process any less?
It likely leads to more clicks, if you can claim to have fooled them. But I totally agree with you, it is much more interesting to watch, if you do not know the outcome.

Yes, if you run the video back through, you can see where the handle switches sides. He covers it perfectly with the fake handle palmed in his right hand and the real handle covered by his left. I would say this is a good example of change blindness. Excellent.
You need to imagine that the mug is not threaded, then the mug will no longer be threaded. That's how they do this trick in the matrix. I love your presentation! 😆
yes I see. he rotates the cup when he puts it under the rag, so the handle is down, and he puts a magnetic handle on the cup which he threads the rope through. so the magnetic handle is on the top. under the rag, the cup is hanging hanldle UP, but when it drops out the handle is DOWN, and the magnetic handle which was UP is now in his hand, under the rag. simple but clever

My guess is at 5:10 he rotates the cup to hide the real handle and attaches a breakaway handle that was concealed in the cloth. When he lowers the cup, he does it by the lip of the cup, not the handle so it doesn't break away early.
When he drops the mug at 5:52 the handle is facing downwards.
Great to finally see an original and clever presentation on this show. So many of the acts are routine with boring setups and uninteresting patter.
Thanks! I worked hard to make it something fans of the show would hopefully appreciate.
What a CLEVER trick. You really changed my expectations and magnetized me with your performance. 10/10 act
This is one of the best presentations I've seen. It's up there with Asi Wind's. Congrats on your magic career and hope to see you continue to do great things!
woah, that's high praise. Asi is a legend. Thank you!
one of the coolest and well executed performances ive seen in a while on this show, hats off
So good! "I'm going to show you how a magic trick works". I love that you literally did, its so clever. Both of the two pervious mug on rope sections of the act weren't just there for entertainment but actually "show you how the magic trick works". Wow I'm mind blown.
Thanks so much dude!! Glad you enjoyed it
Your energy is infectious. Such a joy to watch you do something you unabashedly love.
look at where the handle is when it drops out of the cloth. There was a second handle that he added that stayed in the cloth.
this one was rather easy to spot
but how is that even a fooler penn did say earpiece which would mean extra/detachable handle. but he said there were none
You deserved that standing ovation
Means a lot! thank you!
What an interesting way to hold a mug at the end...
can't believe penn and teller didn't get this one! But what a great act, one of my favourites of the entire show
Such a lovely act.
You'll get a handle on it eventually!
There definitely is, but it was a very fun act. At 4:47 he reveals part of what makes this work, and at 5:11 watch how he handles the mug before he puts the rope through.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Saw this at my school the other day and loved it. Cool to see it on this show.
Glad you got to see it live!
This was absolutely brilliant!! Such a dope performance! I love this!
dude thank you so much!!
i absolutely love that Penn and Teller got CW to allow y'all to upload your own trick to your own channel. Great work! Very fun trick!
It really is so cool that they do that
SPOILER ALERT, if you don't want to know how this trick is done, stop reading now.......
Ha, nice one.
@@ChrisS-nj3ye Not even close. No special props. The handkerchief holds the mug against the rope. It's just friction
I’m glad you enjoyed it :)
well, once you're done wiping it all clean, all that sticky gunk has to end up somewhere :D
See 5:58.
I never care if I know how it's done or not, I just care if it's fun to watch. And it was. Well done, very entertaining.
excellent performance, brother! GREAT JOB!
thank you so so much! appreciate it
I loved Penn getting excited trying to try guess! He felt so happy ^^
Wow...I REALLY miss Alyson...
Same T_T
I came here after Ray Lum gushed about this trick and performance, and I wasn't disappointed. Well done!
I have an idea as how I would make this trick work. There was definitely no mug switch, or a handle with a gap. But there was a handle involved. Great trick and loved the presentation and banter in the beginning.
Very clever. Props to you for sneaking the code in there. Even the use of the red and blue mug colors.. Subtle x 50.
🤣😉
Of course. It was so obvious!
Haha! Genius - you cracked the code! 🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏
@goldeneddie Hoy cow, that was so well written. You would like author Mark Helprin.
@@alfbishai8346 Ah thank you my friend! I'm disabled, and typing is actually quite painful, so I really appreciate your kind compliment. I was surprised my self at how well it came out, straight off the top of my head, first time, no edits! I'll be looking into the author you've recommended - thank you!
Excellent trick and delivery, but the truly priceless moment is your face at the end. Yep, you did fool them, and fooled them well!
What a wonderful performance! Obviously very inspired by the P&T trick "Stupid", this actually takes that concept and in many ways, does it even better!
Really a delightful performance and a well-deserved trophy :)
thank you so much, that really does mean a lot!
Yep. I think Penn wanted to be nice by not exposing method
Idk what the method was but this definitely sounds like a good theory
yeah, when the cup fell, the handle was at the bottom side. :)
Makes sense. When you slow down the video, you can see the handle of the mug points down.
I'm so proud of you Giancarlo! Such a fantastic routine and beautiful scripting. You truly are destined for greatness!!!
Dude that means the world! Thank you
5:05 he reaches into the box to get his cloth and picks up a 2nd "fake" blue handle hidden in the cloth, then threads the rope through the fake handle while hiding the real handle under his thumb pointing it towards his body @ 5:20
@ 5:55 he is holding the fake handle and rope then drops at 5:57 where the real handle is directly pointing down, the opposite from where he is supposedly holding it on the rope, then lets go of the rope and keeps a hold of the fake handle under the cloth, holding the cloth like it's empty.
I can't help but be duped by your magnetic personality! You have a handle on people. Well done!
Nothing gets me hooked on magic as much as yellow scarves!
I love every single little trick you added to the routine :) Not sure whether it’s your magnetism, but you handled the show pretty well, I couldn’t see anything and was also fooled :)
I love you bignini! ❤❤
🤣🤣🤣
Ahhh. The mystery of the enameled metal cup. Brilliantly simple. Well played.
Ohhhhh, i just figured it out. . . . He used magic.
shhhhhh
you can tell he's already excited once penn says he won't be talking in code. he really *does* know the show.
For a moment I was scared he was actually just gonna tell everyone the right answer lol. But once he said "thread", I was like "wait did I just fool them"
I remember you did this trick for the Source and Summit retreat at Mater Dei in Evansville this year. I loved it then and I loved it even more now.
They know how he did it, Penn’s a terrible liar lol
I think there is a false handle of the cup that looks like a real handle and can be taken off
This is an old trick that I bought over $20 years ago. I am surprised Teller wasn’t savvy to it.
"They would say you were duped" was fantastic wordplay
ha thanks so much!!
Why do you spoil things by telling us they were fooled in the title?
So more people watch
People who want to watch every segment and have the suspense tend to watch live on the CW. Most people on TH-cam just search specifically for the Foolers
Let's go!!!! Congrats Giancarlo! I had to slow it down and zoom in and still didn't see anything. See you at Source and Summit!!
Hey thank you so much! Appreciate it
Great trick ,but it's such a shame that you felt you had to ruin the surprise by spoiling the result in the title.
1000% agree, it's much more interesting to not know the outcome.
Your for silencing people's ability to post videos about their own performance?
Bro are you this bored?
Great job, you had me drawn in the entire time! This would be such an adorable show, especially for kids! Us adults can’t figure it out, the kids would think it was real magic, haha! So happy for your success my dude!
thank you so much!!
Every time the dude said "raise your visors cause I want you to "see the situation" I was half expecting to see the Jersey Shore Situation to appear, but all I saw was pubic hair that extends to an Adam Apple. THAT is magic!!
Giancarlo. You nailed it man. Great job.
Awesome to see your growth and can’t wait to see more 💪
thanks so much! means a lot
Yes, if you run the video back through, you can see where the handle switches sides. He covers it perfectly with the fake handle palmed in his right hand and the real handle covered by his left. I would say this is a good example of change blindness. Excellent.
Great act, wonderful 'behind the scenes' magic..
Sometimes the most simplest magic routine is the most amazing one
Yeah lots of times that’s true!
Awesome stuff man! Glad to see you back on TV!
THanks so much dude! appreciate it
You need to imagine that the mug is not threaded, then the mug will no longer be threaded. That's how they do this trick in the matrix. I love your presentation! 😆
It would be so much easier that way
Loved your show at RE Congress today, well done! And glad you performed this trick, it's excellent.
so glad you enjoyed it! thanks!
extra handle thats magnetic?
How is that even possible when even the two legend got fooled 😅
Its magic as simple as that magicians are the most creative people on earth
Well done. There are two ways to handle this trick and i think he handled it quite well!
5:38 those two guys saw the extra handle. I'm dead. 😂😂
Nice slight of hand with the mug! i saw what you did there, but very late and only when watching a second time in slowmo.
I hope we get a video on how it’s really done. Amazing routine. I have some ideas but no clue. Great act
yes I see. he rotates the cup when he puts it under the rag, so the handle is down, and he puts a magnetic handle on the cup which he threads the rope through. so the magnetic handle is on the top. under the rag, the cup is hanging hanldle UP, but when it drops out the handle is DOWN, and the magnetic handle which was UP is now in his hand, under the rag. simple but clever
Penn is always so funny 😂 they’re a great duo
