Yeah okay mapboy, you freaking nerd
true..
GeograNerd
are the map pings finally over 🍅
Why is the discord link expired?
Eh? Is this some alternate universe PH?
Bro literally tortured himself drawing the mess that is the HRE.
I love the "Holy" "Roman" "Empire" 😍
@@user-hs4zj7gc1vvoltaire moment
To be fair it was the late hre so not as bad
I love how this big change was started by a small problem in the Balkans.
its only tradition
Historically accurate
history is repeating itself
Very fitting.
"If there is ever another change of the map, it will be because of some damned silly thing in the Balkans"
Bulgaria changed everything. Common Bulgarian W!
You and PH should do a mapping contest
exactly. Common Bulgaria W RAAAH!!! (i am lithuanian)
To really hammer out the Ottoman's color, I'd advise making the Ottomans a maroon like shade of red post 1839 (Edict of Gülhane) to differentiate the pre-reform Ottomans from Tanzimat Era. Before the Tanzimat changed, the Ottomans were much more focused on Islam, more traditionally depicted as green, while during the Tanzimat focus changed to reform, and the Fez became a symbol of modernity. So pre Tanzimat they should remain green, but during the Tanzimat up to their fall they should be red.
It also helps with the overcrowding of greens that begins after Italian unification and Bulgarian independence.
The Ottomans pre-1839 definitely could still be red, but I feel that green fits them nicer.
I like this thought out approach w/ historical reference. However, I do think that the color should remain the same for simplicity and familiarity.
The more changes we ask for, the more work and (potential) effort is needed. Color could be used to represent political change (fall, rise of nations).
As far as the region of Asia Minor that the Ottoman Empire and Turkey have possessed, even though I am familar with the use of green, I would prefer the change to a soft shade of red similar to that featured on the flag of Turkey which is "Pantone 186, or RGB (227, 10, 23)" so that as mentioned in the video, it is not similar to the representing colors of Italy and Bulgaria.
For simplicity sake, I support Turkish Red, as the color to represent the governing power of Asia Minor. (The Ottoman Empire/Turkey).
Funny seeing you here
If PH were to introduce this sorta stuff, it could be usefull for stuff like the Teutonic Order becoming Prussia, Austrian Empire becoming the Austro-Hungarian Empire etc.
Like the Muscovite Duchy id say is better shown as like a red-ish state, but then Russian Tsardom makes more sense as a green state imo.
Wait... SnapplyPie? FROM STONEWORKS? Tf you doing here?
@@itzastralz1030 I have a passion for Ottoman history :>
Now this is what i like to call dutch engineering
We should declare him as a national treasure at this point.
I spontaniously applauded when I saw the HRE.
@@BasicallyBaconSandvichIV He had one of the easiest periods for the HRE and didn't do it well.
I did it in 1618.
@@genovayork2468 Now that is a map I want to see!
Is there some way you can show us?
@@BasicallyBaconSandvichIV I don't know if there is.
It's not coloured. I drew it after the Wikimedia Commons 1618 HRE in July I believe.
11:34 my respect for you has grown ten-fold
i drew the entire mostly realistic HRE one time for a map project, and it was PAIN(it was the HRE circa 1450)
This is extremely relatable haha
I spent about two or three months trying to make my maps look good, starting from my original white map with very sloppy borders, to the thing I have today
Colors are something I am still experiementing with, but overall I think I am pretty good! I love your colors too and the idea that anyone can use the map easily is something I also try to follow to make video production effective
The Bulgarian question was something I also had trouble with, and I settled with Russia being yellow as it looks better for my map, however the solution you got is equally good! Overall, your map is lovely and I can't wait to see it used in future videos!
your a legend for doing the holy roman empire
fr
helped with the editing of this map ! 👍
hello sorbet
Not gonna lie, the part of the thumbnail where every country in Europe looked absolutely pissed made me laugh way more than I should’ve.
Hey, love your content and it's great to see that you're taking steps to improve your videos' quality further. A small suggestion would be that whilst brush size 7 looks better for country borders, 9 could look more pleasing for the coastlines. I think this could be a good compromise, given the community's apparently split sentiments on the issue.
Don’t make the man redraw this map for the fifth time 😂😂😂
@@TroysMoviesGaming lol, I'm not trying to torture the poor man too much, as I think the change should be more easily doable, since he could just trace over the existing thickness 7 map's coast
Honestly having little city indicators would be nice. During war segments it can be kinda vague where important t objectives are, so having cities would make it easier to tell.
Dots w/ Text perhaps? Stars for Capitals?
@@Cannon530YTOO I figure it would be a hollow dot with a color on the inside to show who controls it. A name beside it would be helpful but not a requirement imo.
This would become very important for representing city-states...
I spontaniously applaused when you showed the detailed HRE! Great job Boiyo!
Also, thank you for putting the maps in the description! Now I can use it to easily create my trademarked Giga-HibernoDutchUnion! You're honestly a real legend! I really love all the stuff you've made & done, and I'm really glad I've subscribed to your channel!
Too much, he has many mistakes.
"It was a work in progress, so some mistakes exist like Norway."
I know what he meant but how he phrased it is just so much funnier.
Great new map! this classic simple map projection holds a special place in my heart, keep up the wonderful work! 💚
Thanks for keeping us so updated on the great effort you're putting into this. It really increases the presentation quality of the videos, so it this is awesome!
I'm just happy your maps include the Hebridies, Northern Isles and Mann - some don't even bother
Love your content! Keep up the good work 😊😊😊
very cool insight into what goes into your channel!
nice to see you incorporate yourself into the videos more, you look good bro.
Great Video, I love your alt history topic, keep it up 👍
Excited to see the new maps on the new videos !
Old maps: rtx off
New maps: rtx on
Good work 👍.
Continue pumping it into my veins.
2:17 hoi4 lives rent-free in our heads
man, you made my day by showing your borders rework and I really hope you will do such a thing with the rest periods of times borders (especially alt. WW1 endings)😁
Looks much crispier
The old map was simply the status quo for so long that it looked good in my eyes already but you made it sooo much better
Thank you for making improving your content because I love it
this is the most calm I’ve ever heard your discord server
Amazing absolutely amazing I’m excited to see these maps in action
Thank you SO much for letting us download your maps for free. Other TH-camrs would say that you have to be a member or support them on Patreon to get their maps.
really wish your provided maps included the european one with many of the borders through history all in 1. for me that would be a great tool to quickly access such borders
You're a real trooper for mapping out the HRE, the commitment is real.
what i’m thinking you could do is just have a reference image of Europe on a globe with a specific position on something like Google Earth or Google Maps, utilizing their ability to zoom in far to see the small details that make basically all European borders. the only problem is how you’re going to be able to zoom in without messing up perspective, but that could be fixed with manually downloading a full resolution image from that spot, or just some clever use of math for perspective
to show that the image is spherical, you could add a posterized vignette on the ocean. might not work well in your style though. also might take more time then
you could also try manually turning Mercator projection maps into globe ones, that could work.
though a lot of these might over complicate the maps and their purpose, being easy to use
generally, there are a lot of options for perspective.
I've tried mapping before, I wasn't the best at it. Good job 👍
Definitely nice borders. We'll definitely miss brush size 9. I could never do something like this myself. Can't wait to see the new maps to be in future videos
This is hilarious it's exactly what I did with the maps I used to design. Thinning borders, better islands, more serious colours, etc. I think one of the things that drew me to your channel is how it reminded me of those old fashioned ms paint maps. Regardless, massive improvement in my opinion, great work! #ph
The fact you use brush size 7 tells me how massive your maps are. I use brush size 2 for mine lmao
this man is insane. love it
What a handsome dutchman
Hey PH not sure if you’re aware but the audio on this video seems to fade in and out (i.e get louder and quieter), at least on my device (old ipad). Is anyone else having this issue?
Ill give you my idea for the cold war map that's a compromise of both sides. Make the Warsaw pact members colors that are close to the shade of red. They arent entirely puppets or autonomous regions in the USSR, but they pretty much are indipedent, with a lot of strings attatched of course. They are satelite states however, which kind of are puppet states, it's up to you what color you want them to be.
Dash the line for the cisleithinia/hungary boundary.
3:39 Saying I'm obsessed with maps without saying I'm obsessed with maps
very cool i think i agree with most of all these changes, although i will say on the newest map kosovo and north macedonia look a bit odd
Change the brush size to 1. Ultimate detail!!!!!
The Warsaw pact should be shades and closely related colours of the Soviet Union
PH! One question, could you re-make the discord link? The one in the description is invalid
Love your work man, keep going at it!
This was a rollercoaster of map emotions
for austria hungry one thing you can do is have the border but same colour for both
7:08 i have to disagree here. I believe the force behind the invasion is less "they aren't following my version of the ideology specifically" and more "they might be building their way to exiting my sphere". If it was the former, i don't see why they wouldn't invade romania for example, because they opposed the invasions of Czechoslovakia and had a more nationalistic vision to my recollection
I really like the new coastlines and think theyre really impressive. But I also think the simplicity of the old ones had a unique charm in not being too realistic.
Have the new versions of the maps been uploaded to your Google Drive yet? Or are they still being worked on?
You should draw the 1st level subdivisions of the countries
There's a joke I could make here about border conflicts, but I'm not gonna do it.
Day 5 of asking what happened to the gaming channel
My suggestion: Start completely over with a new map; probably with base maps. If possible, do it in the detail grade you can zoom in regional scale without looking terrible (like you did for HRR reworks).
- Flat equator world map like we all know (zooming purposes for specific spots)
- Flat continental maps with enough outlines (you can still zoom in specific areas... maybe you want to show the Barbarossa front, so you rather need the north-east part of the map... you can cut them if nessessary, but maybe better to zoom in. For ally plans later in WW2 you could set a new zoom in the same map then for example)
- Polar base maps
Next, make a physical layer of the maps first and a coordination grid second; you can still remove them later. With those layers, it should be much easier to draw geographic accurate maps.
Yeah and then it's all about coloring... I can't give help here because to distinguish everything, you need to many colors... high potential for messing up again^^
Brush size 5 (or 4) could be very handy for regional borders inside a state/country; example Hungary in Austria-Hungary, states/provinves, disputed areas, etc.
That is an excellent suggestion!
The title reminds me of something that happened in the 1940’s that I can’t really put my finger on
Man, you are crazy (good crazy) to have done the HRE
this feels so damn wholsome for some reason
The only thing I don't really like are the new small islands around finland and greece but great work anyways!
For the eastern block, desaturate and redshift the colours
Good suggestion!
(Same can be done for other alliances e.g NATO desaturated, blue shifted)
Where can I get the maps and with what website or. App are u doing those maps because I can't find good ones but ur website looks so much better then I found some?
If only there were a word for something being beyond possible
My baby boy has grown up so fast.....
Will the new maps be on the drive folder ?
This is incredibly relatable as a fantasy author.
Will you redraw other countries borders in other continents as well?
first time seeing his face, he sounds exactly like he looks (aka handsome)
Imo it's kinda weird that Andorra and Monaco aren't on the map but Vatican City, San Marino and Liechtenstein are.
Im glad you changed the border colour of the HRE because of the dutch border
I just have a problem, sometimes when I select bulgaria to color it or when I select russia it color the black borders too and that makes it too dificult to make a map so plz help me find a solution
When will the new maps be uploaded?
What app do you use to edit your maps?
Amazing work I know the pain of projections when trying to make maps
11:33 ... Jesus. I thought I was a map nerd.
when will the new maps be added into the drive?
Those small outline islands / black splodges look really out of place. Like they look good, but just out of place as they're way more detailed than the rest of the map.
Other than that I'm excited to see the new map on the main channel
I think the og maps are AWESOME!!!!!
One thing I think could help with the Green Balkan issue is to make Tsarist Russia yellow or white and modern russia green.
I am partial to simplicity, but the more educational the map, the better. Colors can be designated as needed.
Can you do a map with every province in europe like nord catalonia, luxemburg , states in germany with out color tanks
Nice
I think a way to show both Hungarian autonomy while not sacrificing the look would be to change the internal border either to a darker shade of the Austrian colour, or just remove the border entirely and just have the 2 colours touching directly
Same color, 1 shade up or down, 7 for internal borders, 9 for external borders? (w/ some maps having gray-HRE indicator line)
Is this an accurate description?
This video really reminded me of going to the ophthalmologist, “9…or 7? 7…or 9? 7…or 5?” Thanks for seeking perfection, while it may seem futile, we appreciate it.
7:45 One is correct, the other looks better, each one has its function, depending on the video you'll be making.
I see the new border thicknes as an absoulete lose.
Hi PH!
I wanted to make my own map of Europe, and I had a question. How do you deal with maps that were drawn from different perspectives?
Wait a minute… you’re not a floating orange sphere with the letters “PH” on it, you’re just some guy!
you really gotta fix the noisegate on your mic, it cuts out half of what you say
What software do you use?
what softwear do you use??
i edge to all of your videos
What if Switzerland had a civil war during WW1,
What if everything went perfect for Timor Leste,
What if the Soviet Union failed to contain the reemergence of the pox in 1960?
Such interesting ideas
When are these maps doing to be available?
I think Yellow is a better color for the Russian Empire.
No... Just no
8:44 bro really gave albania the austral Hungarian proposal for their borders💀
To indicate war, you can have alike a ref border between the waring faction/nation
Red borders to indicate border disputes?
@@Cannon530YTOO what you mean by size 5?
@@thingsarecool887 Smaller Brush Size, used for more detailed borders...
How do you overlay your maps then?
The Catharsis, holy crap
