To an extent, yes, but a torque converter doesn't ever actually disengage. The stall speed is the point of maximum torque transfer, but as long as the impeller is spinning, the turbine will be under load and trying to spin. The gas engine, with its higher idle, would actually put the most power through the converter at idle.

I would like to point out that larger tires do not crawl slower, especially if the other trucks have a taller final gear ratio. If the power wagon isn't locked into 1st gear it will automatically switch into 2nd just like the wrangler does. And another thing to take into consideration, diesel engines idle slower than gasoline, and not all transmissions are going to lock into gear while at low idle speeds. If the torque converter isn't locked in that will make the vehicle crawl slower because there is less power being transferred into the driveline.

Exactly. And I am surprised that all three of these guys agreed that it was the other way around. A bigger tire going one revolution will send you further and faster. It's not rocket science. As far as why the real world did not match up with the specs in the race, I suspect one or more of the vehicles was not actually in the lowest gear. Also the published final drive crawl gear may have the ** next to it where the fine print will say with standard tires, or something like that, which is usually not what is tested on these channels, and which as you said, will make a huge difference. I was not surprised that Ford Won the race to the slowest here since it doesn't need to fib much or ** much. It has an excellent ratio on it's offroad vehicles. In the new Bronco it is like 99.5 to 1 on the crawler gear (manual Xmission) with the 4.71 differentials. I believe the auto with the 10 speed also has a lower ratio over say, a Jeep. Databyter

Not much difference between 98 to 1 and 100 to 1 in real life. But yea, you make a good point. I was just trying to make an example, but you are correct. I should have said it's better than 99.9% of the Jeeps on the road. The good news is that I believe if you have deep pockets you can buy these new diffs and fit them to your older Jeeps. Fun video guys!
(I’m late to this one lol)
A few mistakes I’ve noticed but you guys are not avid off roaders so no harm no foul
Just an FYI for the future, the smaller the diameter of the tire the better/slower it will be in the crawl race.
A larger diameter tire will cover more distance in one rotation
So it’s even more surprising that the Ram lost having the best tire advantage by being the smallest
And the Ford having the largest diameter tire still won, go Ford!
There are so many variables in that kind of test.
    Axle ratio
    Transfer car ratio
    Ratio of 1st gear
    Idle speed
Tire diameter (remember, the smaller the tire the better advantage it will have)
Even the amount of wear on the tires will affect the results ever so slightly
And I have to say the GM and Ford impressed me with the MPG
The Ram was actually pretty disappointing
And I wonder if their cylinder deactivation will cause as many problems as it has in the GM gas V8s
(Makes you wonder, does the tiny bit of gas saved by deactivating a few cylinders make up for the thousands of dollars that will have to be spent down the line fixing the problems the cylinder deactivation causes...might make for an interesting video looking into that)
And FCA really says the 6.7 Cummins won’t fit???
They are aware that is the same exact engine bay that they put the 6.7 in right? 🤣 Sounds like they sent you to the janitor to answer the questions about why they don’t use the Cummins in the Power Wagon lol
But that Cummins is one heavy ass engine so it might take away much of capability of the Power Wagon package
And hopefully the sway bar disconnect not working isn’t a sign of the quality of the truck :/
(Btw if you do get it working and use that feature on it or in the future definitely include showing footage or reconnecting it)
Anyways, that was a long comment and my apologies
Great video overall and have a great day guys!
Oh and if I had to pick one I’d take the Ford

    • @2hrsounds
      @2hrsounds 3 ปีที่แล้ว

the thing is the ford had a diesel engine while the ram had the gas engine, usually the ram 2500 cummins diesel gets about 17 MPG, yes its still lower than the ford but better than the gas engine used in this video

I challenge TFL to put that Tremor against my PowerWagon. Throw some 37 inch Milestar Patagonias on your Tremor and tell me where we can meet to do a head to head trail challenge. With that said, great video guys!! And THANKS for the hat the other day!
There is a couple things a little off with the Power Wagon test,
    1) Sway bar disconnect failure could've been dealt with by giving the truck a gentle rocking side to side. A 3 mph roll and using a little left to right action on the steering wheel will do, or just drive it over anything uneven, it will go. If the bar has any load, it won't disengage until pressure is neutralized. No issue when you understand that simple trick. It took me a while to figure that one out, LOL. Yes, as Andre said, the PowerWagon RTI would've been even better had the bar been disengaged.
    2) The crawl speed test was, really, bunk because the Power Wagon is the ONLY vehicle there that is 'programmed and designed' to raise the engine rpm idle speed while in 4 low, and consequently the speed test would've been more accurate had all 3 trucks been in high range. This 'rpm increase' feature is actually a huge benefit for climbing and makes crawling "up" and then over larger rocks to be smoother without the erratic herky jerkyness and belly damage that heavier diesel trucks tend to have as they spool up turbo power and then end up bouncing harder over rocks. Obviously in 4 low with no brake application and increased rpms, the Wagon will go faster than the other trucks on the flat, but up a steep hill you'd find that the Wagon will feel more planted and controlled, making it a better OFFROADER. I have always liked the fact that my Power Wagon increases its rpms in 4 low, and also while running the winch, and while jump starting other vehicles. It shouldn't be shown as a disqualification as the video suggests. With brake pedal application, it makes navigating over larger rocks and ditches a dream. For an example of this, it was illustrated by Steven in the TFL "GM vs RAM" video that you published 2 months ago at about 8 minutes and 40 seconds in to the video where Steven locked the Power Wagon axles and crawled out of the ditch with NO throttle and he then chuckled that it was so easy. More reasons why, to me, the Power Wagon is a 'more capable' OFFROADER, and remains supreme. Just please get RID of those 33 inch tires! LOL
But again, as always, GREAT video guys!!! Always love your mashups, reviews, content and info! The smart alek in me says, for a real test on that GMC, go stick it under some guys fifth wheel camper (cuz it's good for that) and then go put some 37s on the Tremor and go climb heart attack hill over at Kelly Flats up West of Ft Collins in rd 14 against my 2016 Power Wagon with 37 inch Patagonias and almost 90000 miles on it. Just say when, and I'd LOVE to meet u there or anywhere. I don't have an 8 speed nor do I have so deep a crawl ratio as the newer PowerWagon in your video, but i bet a hundred bucks that my old truck would do Heart Attack easier than that Tremor would. I forgot to say, u better put sliders on that Ford or it WILL likely get rocker panel damage. Lol, I destroyed my nerfies there. You know ALL them Ford guys would like to see me get wiped by that Tremor! Eh? Eh? Eh, any Tremor takers??? Come on TFL 👀
