Great review.. I have 6500 miles on my 24 Chevy 2500 Duramax. I am seeing a mpg increase the last 500 miles. I was averaging g 13.6.. now I’m see closer to 16-17 . It did improve for me. I do like the power stroke also… in fact I like all three diesels. The front independent suspension does make the difference for GM.
Keep both and put a topper on the GMC so you have good storage out of the weather. Then you can set up the F350 for a gooseneck if that ever comes down the line. Bye, bye Bronco.
I’m laughing so hard from the nap story. My dad passed a couple years ago, but this would have totally been something he would have done. Thanks for the good laugh Mike. Appreciate you!
Yeah the nap story was good. I did that once years ago in road construction. I was the first one in line at the flagman and I was familiar with this particular const zone so I knew I was going to be there about 15 minutes. So I took a little nap, mid afternoon, and when I came around, I looked up just as the flagman was turning the sign around. Honest. LOL I couldn't believe it!
Been watching you guys for years - but never commented so here goes. We 2:41 love the stories and the videos. We are in Aruba for two weeks and the best part of the trip is my wife and I still get our daily dose of Mike Morgan!! Continued success.
We’re at 650,000 miles on our 2019 f350 with no major breakdowns. I have always said the GM trucks ride nicer. I would think that with the fords riding rougher that the front end parts would wear out, not any yet. We do replace the OE shocks with bilsteins, huge improvement.
They’re nice, especially with the solid front axle and locking hubs, but wtf were they doing for drugs when they designed the new front end. Would go with the GMC for this alone. Not puking every time you look at your truck is a big deal.
Had both in 21 and after having an 18 L5P I was really disappointed in GM. Had tranny issues, electronic issues, ac didnt work, long story short I got rid of it at 5k miles and bought a F250. Its been amazing, really like it so far I will see how it holds up.
My experience with GM as well. Falling apart at 30K miles. Traded 2015 Yukon Denali for 2019 Ram Limited and didn't look back. Still have the Ram not a single problem since new.
I bought a new gmc 2500 in 2020 and started having emission problems at 15k. Straight to the dealership to trade in. Went back to ram, no problems since.
Hi Michael! Informative comparison, thanks! I’ve been watching your experience with these trucks with interest, and thought I would add my two cents. I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 5.3 gas, loaded up. I don’t put many miles on it, and about a year ago almost to the day, I was stopped at a light near my house, and noticed the engine running rough. Light turned green, went by the GMC dealership and the engine felt worse. I pulled into a parking area, and every light on the dashboard lit up! Limped back to the dealership, it was broken lifters! At barely 7,000 miles! It’s not an isolated problem Michael, I know several other people that it’s happened to. It was fixed and returned in 2 days. I still have the truck, with about 14,000 miles, but like I say, watching your comparison with interest! Oh, I will say, I’ve heard of catastrophic engine or transmission failure with all three US manufacturers! It’s not a good feeling.
Unfortunately GMC’s full size trucks aren’t that reliable anymore but all the Fords from the 1500 to 3500 aren’t any better. The GMC 2500s with the Duramax and Allison transmissions are far more reliable than the Ford offerings.
Great review on both trucks. I'll bet the Bronco hits the road as I agree, they cramped inside compared to these two one tons. I would go the GMC only because I have broken my back in 5 places, and ride is without doubt number one in my book
There was no real Need for the Bronco.. They have a Jeep in the mix that does the job quite adequately … The Bronco looks like a Jeep that got stung by bee’s LOL…
Best milage i have gotten out of my 2022 gmc is 21.7. It did take about 15000 miles before it started averaging right around 20mpg. I would guess the ford may even improve more as well. Great video!
Nice review Mike fair and objective in my opinion. As others have stated check the rear end ratio on both as it really determines fuel mileage. Good luck whichever you choose.
Nice comparison. I'm needing a daily driver farm truck and am in the Chevy/GMC gas 1 ton camp for ride quality around local roads. One of your recent videos told me all I need to know about choosing by GVWR for the use of a 14K trailer. Manufacturers are now blurring over the 12K GVWR that restricts what you can tow without a CDL. Thanks again Mike.
Brand new truck and a decent looking trailer you will likely never get pulled over but if you get in a wreck you might be in trouble. Farm plates can get you away with almost anything withing 50 or 100 miles of the farm depending on where you are .
Also be careful about the GVWR since in my F150 it's rated for 13K but only with weight distribution. Without weight distribution, it's rated for 5k. It was on a sticker under the hitch
"Taxylvania!" YUUUP! Thanks for a fair review. Both are great trucks. I am on my third F350 CCLB diesel (2022 model) and they are beast in parking lots for sure. I'm used to it. Personally, I'd struggle with owning a vehicle with massive capabilities and then not being able to slide a sheet of plywood in the bed, put up the tailgate and pull over the tonneau cover. But, that's my priority. I live in more rural area so LB is fine. I get great mileage with mine. It is sensitive to speed. I think you should do a real mileage performance review where you capture a loop and include a regeneration cycle in each. Also, thanks for posting real towing mileage. I see so many people trying to say they can get 15mpg towing a 14K# fifth wheel triple axle camper. I'm like...I have never seen that with lighter loads even. Keep up the good work!
Mike, I've been watching you scince you were a guy showing chain saws and log splitting. Like a backyard guy getting ready for winter. How much has changed over the years! I'm glad you're doing so well; and I like all the wood splitting and especially the sawmill tips. I'm not commercial, so I work on a much smaller scale. God bless you and thanks for being there for us TH-camrs.
I like your story about the nap in stopped traffic. I used to pick up my daughter from middle school. While waiting in the pick up line I fell asleep twice, held up traffic like you described. It was embarrassing.
Great video Mike! Both beautiful trucks! I do like that Ford, one thing that stands out is the keypad…I love never having to worry about keys I always leave them in the truck. Simple thing but it matters to me.
@@waynetharp I have had both the keypad is most reliable to me, the apps didn’t always work for me plus that means you do need to carry your phone also. Choices are a good thing!
Great review, Mike! Those fancy tailgates are fine where they don't use road salt. I give them 5 years max in Michigan winters and they will be failing left and right. When I had a truck as my daily driver, I would remove the tailgate from November through May just to keep it from rotting out.
The 3.0 duramax makes the power of the big diesels from 15-20 years ago, and gets incredible mpg. I'd honestly like to see a heavy half to fill the void between the line up that would make more sense for more ppl. Having a truck that can pull a building off of its foundation is overkill for most people who have them.
The Ford F150 3.5 has more hp and almost as much torque as my 2005 2500 duramax with the Allison transmission. 400hp and 500 tq. There has been many documented on TH-cam problems with the 3.0 duramax I think they put the motor out too soon. I think most of the issues have been ironed out
Great job on your review. I have enjoyed a lot of your content. Your tractor related videos played a role in my Kubota tractor selection. My current daily driver is a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali short bed with the Duramax Diesel. I've loved the truck for many of the same reasons you say here, especially the soft ride and maneuverability. You mentioned that your AT4 has adaptive cruise, which is interesting because my Denaili does not. It has the controls and the display icon, but I've never noticed it to work. Be patient on the mileage issue. You should be seeing improvements soon. I noticed quite a large improvement on MPG once the truck passed 10K miles. I'm currently at 20K and I've noticed it improve a bit up to this point. When I purchased, the dealer mentioned that mileage would be poor for a few thousand miles while the motor "broke in". I've never checked mileage by doing the math at the pump but the truck displays an average 20+ mpg at highway speeds all the time now. It was pretty awful (similar to what you said) for the first 10K miles. You also mentioned that you expected the power steps to break. I noticed a few times around 10K miles that they would deploy and stow 2x when I opened my door. It didn't happen every time, but enough that I noticed it several times. I happened to have it at the dealer for an oil change and they asked if I noticed any issues with them because they had a programming recall. After the re-program I haven't had any problems with them. I'd love to see you hang on to both trucks for the purpose of long term reviews. Thanks again for the your insite and efforts. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Arizona!
GM didn't introduce Adaptive Cruise on any HD truck until the 2024 model year and is why I wouldn't have considered one until now. It is a standalone option on lower trim trucks, and is either included or can be added with other packages on mid trim and higher trucks.
@jamesmoore9008 It's crazy how much new tech is in the '24s. I have a friend that purchased a "24 SLE and it has several options including adaptive cruise that my truck doesn't.
After a lifetime of ford superduties this year I took the plunge and tried GM, a 2024 Silverado 3500 duramax. 5 months and 7500 miles later and man, I think I’m a convert. I regularly tow 20k and this platform is MUCH more stable than the F350. Also the torsion bar front suspension that I always scoffed at has won me over, I was able to dial in an extra 1.25” of front ride height and balance the firmness of the front suspension with the rear, and…..fit an honest 35” tire with tons of clearance. Then I went to the alignment machine and dialed myself in some extra camber, that pretty much transformed the handling to where I can take corners at speeds that my 350 would be in a ditch and the truck just stays flat and on rails. Off-road still goes to the ford because it has so much more articulation with the coil over live axle setup. But you choose your poison, what means the most to you. I have to agree about the fuel mileage on the 24 duramax, I’m averaging the same 12.2 that Mike is😢
I'm a GM kind of person. I have owned Fords and Rams. One Ram i bought, I was in love with it for 508 miles until filling up the gas tank and the motor blew up. The dealer never told me why or what went wrong with the motor. They called me a month later to come in and pick out another truck. They had given me a loner. So I picked out another truck just the same as the first. It had other issues of it's own, later on. The whole front end none of the bolts were tight and I mean everyone. Once fixed it was good. On to the Chevy truck i have now. Driving home which was 30 miles, wasn't sure i would make it home. The steering wheel would wander everywhere. So going down the interstate i would be in one lane, hit a bump and end up in the other lane. This all happened after the dealership was closed, at night. After returning to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong with it. And i came very close to punching the service manager in the nose. I ended up going to another dealership and they found out the steering box was defective. As i stood outside of the cab and turned the steering wheel the tires didn't turn. Me personally don't like sunroofs. The truck i have now was the one with the bad steering which I bought at the beginning of 2018, it has barely over 16,000 miles on it. I've been retired since the end of 2010 and really don't drive much. It's a 2500 HD 4x4 bright red with the black interior with console. I prefer the console over the flip over seat thingy that a lot of trucks have. That's all I got to say about that!
I have the 20' GMC 2500 AT4 HD. I own a HD landscaping company and I haul a New Holland C345 CTL which weighs 11000# plus implements and gooseneck I am usually almost maxed out. GMC pulls great. 0 complaints 107,000 miles later perfectly happy.
My wife daily drives a 2019 sierra 3500 duramax. She loves it. She runs 20 mpg. So I think you'll eventually get better, but driving style means a lot in fuel economy with the duramax. It does love to drink fuel with a heavy foot. My warning to those wanting a diesel for daily driving would be a lot of short tripping destroys the dpf. My wife runs 70 plus miles a day and in 75,000 miles, no issues. Thanks for sharing, Mike. I love a good comparison review. Especially when you own the both and have experience.
Very fair/accurate/ impartial reviews for both pickup trucks. I also agree that both pickups will remain in your fleet, keeping both of you happy. It appears that both of you have fell in love with the pickups and have pretty much decided on what you want especially being the Bronco is just sitting collecting dust. Good luck with your new dump.
Here's my experience with both trucks. 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali Duramax (owned 9 months): Leaking rear window, adaptive cruise control not working, fluid leak from rear differential pinion seal, "typewriter" tick from engine. Great looking truck that has an outstanding ride. The Duramax is a thirsty motor compared to the PSD for sure. Found brake pad dusting on the wheels to be worse on the GMC than the Ford. Traded with 2600 miles. 2023 Ford F-350 Lariat (ultimate) S.O. PSD: 2000 miles: no issues. Exhaust brake on the Ford is stronger than the GMC.
I ordered a 2023 ford XLT maverick hybrid on sept 19 2022, when the ordering banks were open. I got the truck mid july 2023. I had a ford f-150, and decided to sell it after I got the maverick. The f-150 had 47,000 on, and like new when I sold it. I liked the f-150, but being a large truck, hard to park, hard to see around etc. Being I am retired now, I don't need that big of a vehicle. The maverick is easier to park, now I can zip into those spots with ease, and easier to see around etc. And I can still haul a stove, ref. washer machine etc. And being a hybrid, the mileage is great. No regrets here buying a smaller vehicle.
I sat in both of these trucks and was leaning to the Ford… but we stopped by a Ram dealer and got a Limited 3500 for a great deal. All 3 trucks are awesome and just preference.
Man. Both are gorgeous! That red with the black accent is striking. I really love the front end on the GMC and Chevy. The 2024 GM interior is a huge improvement. That being said.. I think on balance the advantages of the Ford take the day for me. (1) aluminim body doesn't rust. Yes it can corrode but I have never seen one 2015+ corrode through. I live in a heavy salt state. Its a lot easier to treat just the frame, and undercarriage with an oil or oil wax. (2) the interior seats, sunroof, power adjusted pedals, power adjusting steering wheel, full lay flat seats (I knap on my truck almost every day as most days are 12-15 hours before I'm home. (3) What I absolutely love about the GMC is the exterior aggressive look. (4) love the multifunction tail gate! (5) overall ride of GMC… however I prefer the solid axle of the Ford. Two quick things to help the ford a bit. (1) replace the brake pads with ceramic pads. It makes a huge difference. (2) get the short bed (3) if you really want to make the ford ride even nicer than the GMC… get the Carli E-Venture suspension system and put on 35’ NITO ridge grapleers or Toyo 35 AT tire. The ride is as good maybe better than the F-150 Raptor. It looks amazing but the extra 3” of height screams power step.
What is the rear end gear ratio in both trucks ? That will make a big difference in fuel mileage. Great content by the way . Been watching a long time .
The GMC is 3.42, that is the only ratio they put in them with a Duramax. Ford i believe they offer 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 in the F350. None of those would be better for fuel mileage than a 3.42 on paper. Transmission are geared pretty similar too so if that Ford has 3.55's in it they would be pretty darn close on the gearing. Close enough that it probably does not matter. I wonder if the mileage drop off on the GMC was because the truck was doing a DPF regen at the time that he checked it. I own a 24 Denali 3500 with DRW and my truck will do over 22 unloaded on a long highway trip so long as its not doing a regen then it drops off into that 17 range. Unfortunately GM does not tell you when the truck is doing a regen so the only way to know is a scanner app or something like an IDash.
@@MrBubbahunt9 - May be the Ford 10 speed trans making the difference, but the horror stories about the Ford 10 speed trans and fuel system issues, no thanks.
@@collinmorgan20 - Interesting. If I was going to take either, it would be the GM for the ride quality. But that being said, I have owned Dodge / Ram trucks with cummins since 1999 and they have served me well with high towing mileage and minimal issues.
@@collinmorgan20 They are not exactly the same transmission. There are quite a few teardowns videos here on youtube showing the differences in both. Same "design" on paper but very different implementations. Gear ratio's differ slightly too. Fuel systems are not the same either. Ford still uses the Bosch CP4.2 pump. In 2017 GM went with a Denso HP4 pump on the L5P engines which is said to not have the reliability issues the CP4 has. The rail and injectors are Denso as well on the L5P.
Thanks Mike for the video......I was sitting here wondering what are the Gear Ratios between the 2 trucks , sounds like the GMC has a lower gear ratio from the Ford hence the lower fuel mileage...
The GMC is 3.42, that is the only ratio they put in them with a Duramax. Ford i believe they offer 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 in the F350. None of those would be better for fuel mileage than a 3.42 on paper.
Almost bought a 23 Denali that same color, it is beautiful. Drove the 23 f250 with the HO6.7 and took it home. Love the ford so far the fuel economy is crazy, but you are right the camera doesn't do that green justice. Loved the video subed
Great unbiased video. We have a 23 F250 Tremor and a 23 Bronco Sasquatch. I fully support trading the Bronco. Its a fun vehicle, but when it comes to comfort and practicality the truck wins. In fact, that’s been the case with every set of vehicles we’ve owned - usually a truck and an suv- the truck always gets the call for long road trips etc… To be honest my F250 rides nicer than the Bronco imo, that may be in part due to the Tremor suspension. As for the Ford vs. GMC, both nice trucks and the better ride is explained by the independent front suspension on the GMC vs Ford’s solid axle. For long term reliability in an HD truck I prefer the solid axle even though ride and handling do suffer.
First freeze here in MN and my GMC tailgate is going nuts. Like someone is constantly pushing the open button until I lock the doors or put it in drive. Taking it in next week
I appreciate this review. Fair comparison. As someone whos towed a light landscape trailer 4-5k daily for the past 6 years I got rid of my 2500hd due to the atrocious ride and cost of maintenance. Ive picked up a Tundra a few years back and have never been happier. Plenty of power, comfortable and didnt break the bank. Long term reliability IDK yet but should be good knowing toyota. If I needed an HD truck again I think I might go ford and that's after owning GMs for 20 years. I just find their reliability to have slid quite a ways.
I’m in the same boat, been driving gm 3/4 tons for almost 30 years, currently on my second hd diesel, love the Powertrain but it just seems to go to hell everywhere else. Thinking of trying ford next time around. The aluminum body panels interest me. No rust, that way.
The older 2500s were the bomb. My 2004 has 301,000 miles and never been in the motor or tranny The truck still drives excellent and I can’t justify buying a new one .
@@jphickory522 my experience too. Pre 07 body style change they were rock solid. Had many 90s and early 2000s trucks that gave hardly an issue except some trans issues.
Interesting cause I'm a landscaper that had 2 tundras but sold the one to get a new HD. Towing and working in general with an HD it's a big difference compared to the Tundra. Tundra is still very decent for the easier jobs and lighter loads but also it will require more maintenance (new brakes etc) if you use it for work compared to an HD that it's made for it. Just my experience. I like having both. HD for heavier loads that the Tundra can't do and Tundra for lighter stuff
@@Pantelifts10 Yep different strokes for different folks. I got rid of anything i needed an HD truck for. Keep in mind the tundra can tow 10k which is plenty for me. It feels more powerful and stable at speed(my 2500hd would get thrown all over the place when I hit uneven surfaces). Ive got 62k on it now and just replaced my first set of tires. All other wear parts(including brakes) are in the green according to the sheet the service department gives you. I dont tow heavy. 3-4k 5-7 days a week since new. My 2500hd was rated for 13k. The motor was a dog and trans let loose at 120k. Not to mention the other 10k in repairs it cost me over that 120k( i could make a list a mile long of failures from major to annoying) . I just plain don't trust GM after 2 major failures at or below 120k( the other was an engine in a previous truck). I do maintenance on time and whenever is recommended by the dealer. Like I mentioned above, I would probably buy a ford if i needed another HD truck. Not sure what manufacturer you went with but I hope you have better luck than me.
Nice review. I would like to point out that your GMC has the first gen L5P and it makes 445 hp and 910 foot pounds of torque. The gen 2 in the 2024s is what makes 470 hp and 975 pound feet of torque. Interesting about the fuel mileage. Usually they both get similar and both are a lot closer to your GMCs than the Ford. But it is what it is in that regard. The GMC “short bed” is 6’10”.
Really nice unbiasedish review. Both solid trucks. Brand loyalty is usually what sells trucks these days. But my best advice as an ex sales guy, try them all and buy what suits you, not the market place.
Hi Mike, I’m from Australia and we do have these here but they’re so expensive but I like the GMC I just think they look better but that’s only a personal reference. I’m not a Real Ford guy , I’ve had a couple and they always give me trouble
Excellent video, thank you. I have the exact GMC truck as your, except in the Denali Package. I've installed Sulastic Shackles, and front/rear Bilstein 4600 shocks. I installed each, one at a time, to find out how each would improve the ride. The shackles and rear shocks didn't have too much of a noticeable improvement. However, the front shocks replacement was very much an improvement. I would at a minimum do the fonts, you will be happy. Good luck, keep up the great videos.
Thanks Mike. Great review. I can see where trading the Bronco would make sense. I have always seen vehicles like Broncos and Jeeps as fun play and off road vehicles but not very useful as hauling and towing platforms. The truck world has come a log ways to add creature comforts while still maintaining a good hauling and towing vehicle.
I like your story Mike, about the nap. I did the same thing back in the day went to sleep beside the road. I was tired and I was trying to get home for Thanksgiving and some guys stopped behind me to either steal the truck or steal what was in it and when I woke up and sat up in the seat, they ran back, got their car and took off so I went ahead and started my truck and went on home. It all turned out good.
Appreciate the side by side compare. I own a 23 ford with 7.3 liter, love the truck but I agree on all your points including ride which is a little harsh when unloaded. I put weight in the back and it rides much better.
You have gained a new follower! I loved this video it was very informational. I don't have anything against Ford but the ones I have tried test driving at a dealership recently have a hard time steering like they have power steering problems, pretty clunky. I've owned GM for the last 12 years of my life and have never had a problem with them. My Canyon Denali drives very smoothly and is packed with cushiony seats and comfortability. Heated and cooled seats with a heated steering wheel, it's 4wd package on a V6 3.6L engine. And it's the nicest thing I've owned.
First time watcher. Great video. Liked the nap story 😂. Just got a 23 f250 tremor. Only complaint is the terrible turning radius. Been driving long bed crew cab diesels (not fords) for over 26yrs and never missed as many turns as I have in the last 3 weeks in the f250, and it’s a short bed…
I love love love my 2002 Ford F350 Power Stroke Crew Cab with only 37,467 miles on it. Chipped for 350hp and runs like the wind. I wouldn't take a Chevy/GMC or Ram if you gave them to me for free. My truck will be running long after these are in the scrap yard. The 7.3L Power Stroke was the last good diesel engine built. Plus, my interior is extremely comfortable and the truck rides very smoothly like a big Lincoln from the '70's.
Very good reviews, the Ford SD's have a straight front axle housing where the GM's use independent front suspension. Hence the reason for the different rides, in my opinion.
This is very good review! I think you really touched on all the points that matter to most truck guys and gals, and did a great job comparing the vehicles. I personally lean towards Ford. I think GM makes good trucks, but the overall value for me tends to favor Ford every time I purchase.
I have a crew cab 8 foot bed Silverado and its a lot of fun trying to park in these tight parking lots. I just bought myself a brand new personal truck recently too a new Denali Ultimate. I kinda wish I waited a little bit because right after I got it the 24 3/4 and 1 ton Ultimate came out. Not that I need another HD truck but it would have been nice. That half ton Ultimate though is so damn nice. It has the LZ0 Duramax and it gets crazy fuel mileage. I have a house just a little north of you and I live on the beach in SC. I just went from up north back to SC for a few weeks and when I left up there I hadn't filled up in 2 weeks. I got all the way to High Point, NC and still had between an 1/8th and 1/4 think it only has a 22 gallon tank. I topped off in NC and drove another 5 hours home and I still had 3/4 tank when I got home. I drove around 3 weeks and still had a half tank. On the highway I have got as high as 39mpg. It averages like 27mpg just daily driving. The LZ0 is a 3.0 straight 6 diesel. 305hp and 475 ft/lbs. What gears do you have in these trucks. Maybe they are geared different that could account for the difference in fuel mileage. I guess these new 10 speeds kinda make up for it some but if you have something like 410 in the GMC and say a 373 or something in the Ford that can explain the difference in fuel mileage. Are you using additive in your diesel? I add every filling. They tell you to buy top tier diesel but there is literally nowhere around here that sells it. Even if they did I would still add additive.
Great video, fair comparision on both. Add a Carli suspension (2.5") level on the Ford and she will ride better than our GMC 1500. Major difference and no sacrifice on load and pulling ability. Handling as well as overall control will also be better. I then added 37's and PCM to adjust speedo.
I'm very happy with my F150, and yes, it gets great mileage, but I am glad to see that GMC is still competitive. Pickups are so useful; I will never return to a car or even an SUV. As far as ride quality, I will have to test drive the GMC, since the ride quality of my F150 goes far beyond anything I have ever driven.
Mike I agree with everything you said about each truck except the mileage. My buddy has the ford like yours I have the Chevy 2500 6.6 duramax with the 8 foot bed and I get much better mileage then he does . Definitely trade the Bronco in and keep both trucks . I also think god forbid anything should happen I think Melissa would be safer in the truck .
Like you Mike - I too have driven Ford, Chevy and GMC. I prefer a Ford, I had Ford and GMC for work trucks and the Fords lasted longer and were more rugged (my opinion). I think the Bronco is on the block. Stay safe.
Great video, Mike! We really are enjoying our F350 with the big V8 gas engine. There are some issues with the transmission (we've made some videos about it), but overall it's a great truck.
Is that the 7.3L? Is that the one they call the Godzilla motor? Just drove a friend's Ford with the 7.3 gas. Nice truck. Hate those holes in the roof !!
@@haroldphipps3457 Yes- it’s commonly called the Godzilla 7.3 gasser. We’ve made several videos about it on our channel if you’d like to check them out.
Transmission problems with a Ford truck? No kidding. Really. And have to remove the cab from the frame to access the transmission. Some Ford engineers “better idea”.
@@mr.wilson8340 oh mr.Wilson, I more than “did my homework”. I spent $80k and owned one for 40k miles. The cab was removed twice, trans replaced, converter replaced. Never again. Replaced Ford truck with GMC, over 120k now, no problems.
That GMC fuel economy is crazy... My 23 f150, lifted on 35" wildpeaks with a stage 2 776hp, gen 5x whipple supercharger gets 18.3 on the highway empty. Great vid bud!
Hello! 😊 The good and bad features of these trucks is a moot point to me because I will not allow myself to spend that much on a pickup. And I would even feel embarrassed to drive one around. I like to think about the kind of pickup Mr. Sam Walton used to drive.
@@peteatthefarm4459 Hi Pete, Stay warm and dry today. We are blessed with pretty nice weather today. Clear skies, currently 61° F going to 84 for a high. Gets dark at 5:30 now.
All the fancy little features aside, for me it comes down to comfort, ergonomics, and driveability, i.e. are the seats comfortable? especially for long trips. how are the controls? are they where they should be? How does it perform?- good throttle response, tow-ability etc.
One thing about the 8' bed on the Ford is that if you ever get a 5th wheel trailer or camper it's easier to back up the trailer and has a tighter turning radius. Is there much of a difference in the loudness in the cab between the two?
I assume they both have the same axle ratios and similar tire size. My Chevy 2500 HD Duramax 3.73 rear gets slightly over 21 mpg empty in the mountains of Potter County Pa. Good video Mike, I enjoy watching!
Hey Mike. I had a couple questions about the differences in the trucks. I was wondering if you noticed any difference in ride quality between the 2 loaded and also does one squat more than the other with a lot of tongue weight from a trailer. I enjoy your channel very much. Thanks!
The gmc handles better and rides better, they squat about the same. But gm's ifs allows the gmc to make a unturn on a 2 lane no problem, the ford's gonna need to do a 3 point.
How the front tires on the ford? Any cupping? This a issue I had on 3 f250 fleet truck. My fleet gm trucks don’t cup. Both hauling mini excavators with 7k axle trailers.
GOOOOOOD MAAAAAAAAWNIN EVERYONE OUT THERE IN OWTM VIDEO LAND!!!….Thanks for the review Mike. Hoping Melissa makes a great decision & NEVER 2nd guesses it. Have a Day HELLOOOO Hunter 😊
They are pretty much the same. I have a Ford. I think the GMC looks a little bit better but GMC doesn't seem to be as reliable so I went with Ford. I really like the control/function/sounds of Ford compared to other vehicles (like the ez fuel, no cap no button, you just open it with your hand and stick the nozzle in, unlike other cars that have multiple "locks" just to gas it up). Like the Sync system, like the forscan features you can add/change, like the pin pad so you can lock your keys in the truck, etc. etc. Never had a GMC but compared to Honda/toyota/subaru/etc, my Ford is my favorite configuration.
Nice review. I think the difference in ride is probably from the GMC's independent front suspension. The Ford has a solid front axle. For heavy duty use you can't beat the solid axle.
Solid axle all day. much simpler and more durable. still rides great. My 03 F250 with front leafs rides good for what it is. A truck is a truck not a car.
@@fordman2288 GMs have always ridden like cars because that's what impresses the average guy and his wife when they take them for a test drive. GMs are also lower for the same reason. If you're going to use a truck for truck purposes especially off road Ford is the better rig.
The 22 fords are my favorite. I think that was the perfect front end. I ended up with a 24 at4 2500 and love it. Both will cost us an arm and leg down the road once that warranty is up lmfao Great vid brother!
Oh boy do I know what you mean about the wife being “sure”. She was sure she preferred the car we got (not my first choice) and then a year later it is too “bulky” and doesn’t like driving it. Glad we got a short term lease so we can now look at the next vehicle that she will be “sure” about 😂
On the Multipro tailgate. I always saw it as kind of gimmicky too until i owned one. After having my 24 GMC 3500 since June i dont know if i would ever want to go back to a standard tailgate again. As a not so tall person at 5'8" it makes a huge difference for bed access on my 3500 and it makes getting in and out of the bed so much easier especially for my wife who is like 5'3".
I think you will benefit much more by trading the Bronco. Both trucks serve multiple purposes. The Bronco is just a ride, and that's it. GMC, daily use. F150, hauling the heavier things. Nice video, thanks.👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
The independent torsion suspension on the GMC is what I believe allows for the better ride and turning radius. I am a GM fan but I really wish they would do better on their seats. They are too hard in my opinion. I wonder how the new 2024 GMC would fair against the 2024 Ford.
Have owned a duramax and that torsion bar front end is garbage on a real truck constantly you lose alignment especially if you put a little larger tires on your truck. Have switched to powerstroke and everything about the truck is built better from the brakes to the doors handles and interior. Also the damn head unit that comes in my Denali HD had to be replaced twice by the dealership was the worst luxury head unit have ever experienced.
I think those mirrors on the GMC has that backup light in them. It makes a huge difference when backing. That Multipro Tailgate is sweet as long as you are not hooked to a trailer. i have owned 2 Duramaxs with a combined total of 800k miles and no one issue with the Allison Transmission.
This video is great, your new workhorses are absolute beasts..nice comparision, no bias in here. I know Ford has been known for fuel saving on their lines of pickup trucks on both gasoline and diesel engine, but which really amazed me when your Ford driving bobtail could run up to 21-25mpg is phenomenal..I am a Ford guy, but tbh i like everything on the new design especially interior design BUT the front end, it does not look as good as it used to, 8" bed is also a huge plus obviously..
What a terrible problem to have I hope you keep both the trucks, One question if you had it to do over again would you order the Ford with the 8' bed or the shorter bed like the GMC?
Superb side by side comparison, Mike! I am somewhat shocked at the vast difference in gas mileage unladen, but not much variance when laden. There’s just something about a truck . . . I think there’s a country song about that.
GMC hands down all day and ive had both and ford is just a pain to have something fixed but i do agree about the seats i would lean towards ford on that, but interior in general it just depends on the model but im not looking for lets say everything in a truck whem it comes to interior, like i don't like leather personally but have had it but prefer cloth
Thanks for the great review as usual. I agree with pretty much all you mentionned in it. I'm a very satisfied owner of a 2022 Ford SuperDuty F-350 Powerstroke in the Platinum trim. My previous 2017 F-350 also had retracting steps and they need to be cleaned and lubbed once in a while. Besides that they work well. There is so much tech in the new Ford trucks... you didn't even mention the onboard scale. I like gadgets which is why I go with the Ford since they bring new cool stuff in their trucks. Most of the time you'll find it in the other brands a few years later. Good luck with whatever the boss decides to let go...
I have a 2019 Duramax, I discovered the fuel economy improves significantly if I drive it on the highway at 1700 RPM which is at the torque curve. That's approximately 70 mph. When I drive it slower it becomes quite thirsty in comparison.
A very good video. They are both nice trucks. I see in the comments some people mention GM's independent front end. When those came out in the late 80's I was driving a 1978 K20 4x4 work truck. It was great. I remember thinking what has GM done to the heavy duty trucks? That's a deal breaker for me. It seems some other people agree. As always thank you for a good video.
In my '23 diesel 2500 GMC with 8,000 miles on the clock, running empty, I just finished a 620 mile highway trip with the cruise set at 69 mph; I averaged 19.9 mpg, which I thought was good. Without knowing what speed you were at for your calculations, your Ford really delivers on the mileage!
Interesting comparison, well done! I have not had a GM product treat me well since my 1973 LeMans. That said, as much as I love the look of the Bronco, it's less utilitarian. My 2022 F350 dually gets maybe 18-19 empty on the highway. I'm sure that has more to do with the 4:10 axle ratio. But it pulls my Montana like a dream.
That's probably it, @@lanedelker9161. I had an '01 Silverado with the 8.1 gas, 6-speed manual, and also a 4:10 rear. Same thing, it pulled well but the mileage was not good! I swapped it out for a 3.73, but even then, running with no load and a favourable wind at my back, the best I could ever do was 14 mpg. Enjoy!
One note that as a owner of 2020 AT4 with duramax and no idea if Ford provides this, but GMC provides no ability to see whats going on with regen status of anything. You have to get aftermarket to capture it. So I agree its shortsighted to have only 400W in bed inverter plug on GMC as well but the alternator in AT4/3500/Duramax thats bigger can supply that much. I took advantage of it running DC cables to rear to plug into trailer to pull 60a to camper DC-DC and disabled idle timeout so I can use as generator in emergencies. Thus the research into regen to make sure its maintained well.
The 2024 GM products are steps above on the interior. I’m a GM guy, and absolutely love the color of your Sierra but the small screen and infotainment center would make me want to go with the Ford.
I will never have a truck as nice as these. Let alone two of them. This, said, I will never stop trying.
One day bro
Same here. Lets make it happen on day.
I used to say that too and now I have a mustang and a truck
That doesn’t make sense. There not that expensive to say you’ll never have one. They’ll be $30-$40k maybe half eventually.
Might be sarcasm idk.
I vote to keep the trucks and ditch the Bronco too!!! No pressure Melissa, you got this!
Agree
Next thing you'll say is ditch the Rubi...Dems fighten' words 😀
I like the bronco, think they’re pretty cool but I think I’d keep the trucks. As for the jeep, I’d keep it and i bet Eva would agree.
Keep both and put a topper on the GMC so you have good storage out of the weather. Then you can set up the F350 for a gooseneck if that ever comes down the line. Bye, bye Bronco.
Hope you actually went out and voted today??? Come on America your vote matters! Trump 2024

Great (and unbiased I feel like) comparison Mike. Surprising the difference in the fuel mile between the two which after a year really adds up.

Toyota Tundra, 5.7L V8 or 4.6L V8 (million mile engine). Skip the new ones.
I have the 6.2 at4 and it is amazing
Great review on both trucks. I'll bet the Bronco hits the road as I agree, they cramped inside compared to these two one tons. I would go the GMC only because I have broken my back in 5 places, and ride is without doubt number one in my book

Best milage i have gotten out of my 2022 gmc is 21.7. It did take about 15000 miles before it started averaging right around 20mpg. I would guess the ford may even improve more as well. Great video!
I'm at 22k miles in my 2022 at4 3500...I average around 16, but mine is lifted 6 inches on 37's.
Nice review Mike fair and objective in my opinion. As others have stated check the rear end ratio on both as it really determines fuel mileage. Good luck whichever you choose.
You know that the rear end isn't the only gear on the truck right? Tranny gears plus rear end will tell you the whole story
@@jeffhall768 Very true Jeff however, the customer has no choice in transmission gears only the rear differential.
Great truck review, Mike. I feel SURE that with Melissa's input, the Bronco is history !! Personally, I lean more to the GMC !!
You can just get different stickers and if your running private id doubt you will ever have any problems from DOT even if you go over weight
Yes and they do 75 towing their toy haulers 😂😂😂”oh I get 15 towing” lol
Mike, I've been watching you scince you were a guy showing chain saws and log splitting. Like a backyard guy getting ready for winter. How much has changed over the years!

I love your comment about fuel efficence parking. I'm a Chevy guy but your are correct.
Right.. I've never seen a ford truck get better mileage than a gm truck equipped the same....
I got 24.8 MPG average with my AT4. Love it
Thanks Mike for the video......I was sitting here wondering what are the Gear Ratios between the 2 trucks , sounds like the GMC has a lower gear ratio from the Ford hence the lower fuel mileage...
First thing I thought of what rear ends do the have
The GMC is 3.42, that is the only ratio they put in them with a Duramax.
My 2004 has 301,000 miles and never been in the motor or tranny
The truck still drives excellent and I can’t justify buying a new one .
Great review! Just bought the 2024 Lariat 19:02 F-250 crew cab tremor with 7.3. Love it. Don’t tow enough for 12,000 dollar extra diesel. Lol
Geez, kind of wrecks the comparison lol
Really nice unbiasedish review. Both solid trucks. Brand loyalty is usually what sells trucks these days. But my best advice as an ex sales guy, try them all and buy what suits you, not the market place.
Most of us can't afford two $ $85,000 trucks.
@gregorybarth930 maybe u don't believe in yourself or just lazy working a 9 to 5 wanna be broke or have nothing for yourself
Almost as good as Eva's review! :) Nice trucks, can't go wrong.
Appreciate the side by side compare. I own a 23 ford with 7.3 liter, love the truck but I agree on all your points including ride which is a little harsh when unloaded. I put weight in the back and it rides much better.
If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy
Get an F450 next time. The turning radius will blow your mind.
I just bought a 2024 GMC sierra 1500 and it has been the best truck I’ve ever had.
@@jrwstl02By design, do your homework!
Hello! 😊
The good and bad features of these trucks is a moot point to me because I will not allow myself to spend that much on a pickup. And I would even feel embarrassed to drive one around.
I like to think about the kind of pickup Mr. Sam Walton used to drive.

@@badcat4707 Hi BadCat, Happy mewsday! 😼
Nice job, I’ll agree with everything you said.
Only thing I could add is, the Tow Haul mode is better in the Ford.
Thanks for the comparison. I wonder what each would be like in 10 years.
It would be interesting to keep both trucks and see how they perform over the long term.
Most people really want to know total cost after about 150K miles.
Thank you!
How the front tires on the ford? Any cupping? This a issue I had on 3 f250 fleet truck. My fleet gm trucks don’t cup. Both hauling mini excavators with 7k axle trailers.

Absolutely
I would rebuild an IFS 3 times over just to keep the ride!
@@MatthewC137LMFAO.......the Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 and the GMC AT4X has entered the chat.

Trade the bronco. That way if you have a lot to take to WV you can hook a trailer up to both pickups and Melissa can drive one too.
Bet the Bronco is GONE!😊
The 22 fords are my favorite. I think that was the perfect front end. I ended up with a 24 at4 2500 and love it. Both will cost us an arm and leg down the road once that warranty is up lmfao Great vid brother!
Oh boy do I know what you mean about the wife being “sure”. She was sure she preferred the car we got (not my first choice) and then a year later it is too “bulky” and doesn’t like driving it. Glad we got a short term lease so we can now look at the next vehicle that she will be “sure” about 😂
Do both trucks have the same size tires and rear end ratios?
You won’t have to worry about death wobble with the GM !!
Have you had any issues with your truck?
@@joealewis4121 nope, it’s been great. Just rolled 27k and it’s been problem free.
Bronco is Gone!! Melissa will be driving the GMC ~ :)

@@badcat4707 Morning badcat, I'm guessing you are getting this not so nice weather?
Thanks for the most comprehensive and unbiased review I have ever heard.
I love the 48gal fuel tank on the Ford LB wheel base.
