Aluminum UPGRADES for “The CHEAPEST Traxxas Slash” - Caster Blocks, Hub Carriers, Steering Knuckles

  • In this video I upgrade the steering knuckles, caster blocks and hub carriers to Aluminum on my “CHEAPEST Traxxas Slash” Project. I made a mistake in the video by saying “the steering links were originally mounted to the steering carriers from the bottom”. My bad. They were actually originally mounted from the top. I got confused because I was taking apart the steering components with the rc flipped upside down. Lol

    I broke the right caster block twice in one day! Head on collisions with concrete are no bueno. Lol😅

      Yeah the stocks ones aren’t very strong…so running into concrete is a sure way to break them lol

      Hopefully it holds up to bashing. Aluminum doesn’t tend to be the greatest option

      @@RCKnockout I did think about that and have left a fair bit of plastics parts on so there’s something to flex n hopefully give before the aluminium lol I don’t jump it to much just bash around on grass and loose gravel to expensively break 😂 it looks awesome tho with all the blue alloy 😍

    notice any differences between the coda racing parts and the 1st part traxxas ones. They both say t6 aluminum just wondering if they hold up the same

      No haven’t really noticed a difference…they seem to hold up well

      I’m not sure if lights is something I would put on a slash. I think they’d just get beaten up and probably quit working

    D8d you have issues with the caster blocks? The pin to secure the bearing carrier and caster got stripped. I forgot to put blue loctite on it and only saw the issue then...

      Thanks, I used the screw pins provided with the kit and had to use a adjustable wrench to hold the block to tighten it the last half of the way...not sure what happened there. I'm going to try rental the hole one the one that stripped.

      @@Nelsea7190 no problem. Did it get cross threaded or something?

    • @Nelsea7190
      @Nelsea7190 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCKnockout yup, i didnt even try to force the initial half thread and let it settle itself gently. the first 1/4 thread went easy, first half decent resistance and the last half strong force while holding caster with adjustable wrench. i forgot blue lock tite and took it off and its kaput... i dont have many suitable tap sizes but hopefully the ones i have will match the new suspension pin set i ordered. considering a c clip pin set to use on the slash at the moment as a back up.. the slash is still in working condition but i burnt through the 2 supplied screw pins. i settled for the traxxas plastic caster and RPM carrier. when the new hardware comes in i will try it again and 2x check if the threads are smooth to tighten before trying to install it on the carrier.
