  • In this video I install some big bore aluminum shocks onto my Traxxas slash 2wd machine that I’ve dubbed “the Cheapest Traxxas Slash” Project. I also Tear down the shocks and do a simple and almost free hack to keep it from rolling or tipping. Complete installation video. The fuel tube hack can be used on the stock Traxxas slash shocks as well as upgraded ones.

Usually the easiest way to get the shock shaft out is just to take the bottom eye off and then slide the shock shaft up through the top. Also that steel washer is reinforcement for the piston. If that washer wasn't there the force of impact would end up pushing the piston over the little rimit sits on and down onto the shaft

I know this has been a few years old but my concern is the shock shafts on the Amazon shocks. If those bend as well, I will go with the Traxxas brand instead. Sometimes cheaper is not better when it comes to things like shocks. I snapped a shaft on my Rustler right after installing the Traxxas big bore after hitting a small tree. That was on me. A quick trip to the hobby shop and I got a new shock shaft. Being those come with minimum shock oil really concerns me as well. At this point, I have talked myself out of the Amazon shocks. They may be cheap enough, but no replacement parts makes me think I should pass on those. Good video however.

@@RCKnockout so I bought gtr shocks all around. The backs are longer than the front. The trouble I ran into was the front clearance was low. I ended up ordering Gtr rears for the front. depending on ride hight this mod just make the droop shorter so the wheel cant travel down as much but the point of ride hight to full in on the shocks is the same.

@@RCKnockout Yup, it is the 2wd. By default it's setup for "shorty" battery packs, and I've not yet found 3S shortys with decent capacity rating (all around 1500mah), so at least for starters I'll run this with 2S 100C/5Kmah batteries. Went with the Castle sidewinder SCT ESC and 1410/3800kv sensored motor. It'll be a bit before I have it all running. This particular kit leaves open the electronics... doesn't even come with a pinon gear or wheels and tires :)

The heavier the weight the less rebound so when it hits a bump the car will absorb the impact slower and be so much more stable instead of bouncing around. This also helps rollovers and the common problem of diving in corners.
