    Got the 2wd basic version with upgrayded with a vx3 engine/esc and lcg chassi.
    Also tekno m6 rear hubs and driveshafts.
    Some extra weight round battery to further lower cg.
    Its a fun car to just mess with and run during bad weather as i dont need to use my xray xb2 then.

    Had several 2wd slashes not done the LCG mod but had full RPM A-arm/shock body mounts mods all the trx ally parts but a turd is still a turd now have no Slash in my garage. Go with metal idler gear in old gearbox and save yourself a fortune never broke mine never lost a shock cap but bent many! Good luck or get a sentence! 🤣👍

      Yep the more I dig into the Slash, the more the numbers and value makes sense. The issue is the price tag feels high being paid all in one go Vs upgrading over time but the bang for buck is with the top of the range Slash

    @TastierBackInThe80s ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Awesome. Really glad you are doing this Gav. Theres always a tonne of discussion online and social media about what to upgrade, and when. Also Gav you can do yourself a favour and swap out the dual rate springs that come with those dampeners, they are horrible. And yes, sway bar especially on the rear.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any spring recommendations?

    • @TastierBackInThe80s
      @TastierBackInThe80s ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCKickschannel You can play with Traxxas' own coils, or there are Losi coils that fit the stock Traxxas dampener. But the dual rate coils from Traxxas are barely adequate. The soft section of the coil is too soft and harder section is too hard. Stock Traxxas dampeners will get the average modeler by, until they have the spare pounds to go into either GT or big bore dampeners. GT for the track, big bore for bashing.

    I have a 2 2WD Slash VxL, 1 XL-5 2WD Slash and 2 4x4 VXL’s. All of them are reliable cars that I use. The only thing I break on them is Spur Gear and Sometimes the Transmission. But I only broke 2 of each. So Personally I think the slash is the best beginner RC Car.

  • @Dangeresque14
    @Dangeresque14 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Super late comment. I had issues with my hinge pins and hub/carrier screws backing out on my slash and my sons rustler, even with locktite. The field we drive in is pretty bumpy. STRC makes a locknut style kit to replace all of those. Or you can just use M3 bolts and lock nuts on the cheap.

    This platform has endless optionnal parts. But I believe, if you are not a total beginner and want a 2wd shortcourse truck, getting the Slash VXL will be a better option, especially that you have directly the Magnum 272r transmission, heavy duty driveshafts and bvrushless power system.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree Bart, when you look at the extra parts you get for the money vs the entry level kit, the 2WD VXL is the best spot to kick off with. The upgraded trans alone is the price difference between the entry level and the VXL, so all the upgrade parts are basically free upgrades. It's only if you don't have the money up front to get into the VXL. That said I would hold of and save up a little longer if you think you can.

    I think all these upgrades are good, except for the aluminium a arms. This is because if you get into a crash, instead of just breaking the a arms, which are cheap and easy to fix, it can damage more expensive and harder to replace parts closer to the middle. Also, if the a ark ever gets bent. It’s gonna get weaker and it won’t be straight again.

    • @AquariumAficionado
      @AquariumAficionado 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea I ripped an a arm off the transmission case and actually broke the transmission case
      Plastic a arm plastic trans case both stock
      Thinking about upgrading to metal trans case to be able to break a arms instead of more trans cases
      Easy to swap arms, PITA to swap trans cases
      It was a rear arm it dropped into a curb at high speed
      Like one those squares they cut out of the sidewalks for trees to grow, it skidded into the dip when I tried to steer away from it

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would still enjoy the 4WD brushed but you would probably be looking at brushless upgrades as your first move. This is due to the extra weight the 4WD has makes the brushless motor work much harder so you notice the lack of power Vs the 2WD more. The first choice when going for a slash is always 2WD or 4WD as it’s a decision you can’t reverse without selling the car. Next it’s what is your budget from the off. Loads, get the top of the range Slash as you get the most upgrades for your money. Mid budget, get the VXL brushless and if your budget is super limited, the entry level. You won’t be disappointed in any of these choices, it’s just you will end up spending more in the long run on the entry level. Upgrades as you break things or when you feel you want more power.

    You'll find that one of the rear suspension arm hinge pin/screws will wind itself out over time from the action of the suspension.
    It's not a huge deal & it's easy enough to screw back in... Or the best solution is to take it out & screw it in from the other side.
    I noticed that the low CG chassis seems to block access to the pin/screw head.?

    I've found that the Mip axles are way better. The silver section on the ones u purchased are the weak spot on those, invest in spares, Traxxas sells the silver section by itself in singles. Also the front alum uprights like to bend a little in the flat frontal area. I'd also invest in strc hingpin kit. And most needed is a hot racing hardened spur and pinion. I like 32 pitch personally but there is other teeth pitches. All from my personal experience. Gl. There are quite a few other parts I've found useful. But idk if ur budget is all gone for this project. U spent a lot and could go alot more if u wanted.
