My wife and I had no idea what it was but it was new on Netflix and we were looking for something light for a Saturday night. Now we're both telling everyone we know to watch it. I have no idea how Netflix failed to advertise this enough but this is the best thing on the service in a long time, and we just binged Shadow and Bone and loved that too.

Everytime Katie was nervous or pensive she’d play with her hoodie drawstrings, it was cute and a great humanizing detail

Did anyone else notice the Lord of the Flies reference in that one scene when all the wifi was turned off and people were freaking out? There was a computer on a stick similar to the pig head on the stick in Lord of the Flies and the people were covered in paint.

In I few of the scenes, on Katie’s computer she has a sticker that says “hello my name is Katie” and that is a reference to spider man into the spider verse
I think this movie has the same creators as spiderman into the spider verse

There is also a case in the movies that says space butts referencing the movie space balls
The "Hello My Name Is" sticker is quite common, but given that this shared some of the same creative personnel as Into The Spider-Verse it might be a reference.

As much as I would have loved for this to be in theatres I’m sort of thankful it came out on streaming so i could appreciate all the little details better
If you pause fast enough you can read pretty much all the flaws Pal lists on the Mitchel’s and you should really take the time to read them all they’re hilarious
The only thing i would have love is to see in theatres is the duet of Live Your LIfe between Katie and her father while destroying the robots.
They are pretty funny.

I loved the Reference from one of Indiana Jones Movies where the mother pulls out a robots heart out from it chest.
It struck me more as a mortal kombat reference.
It also kind of reminds me of that scene in Avengers age of ultron when Wanda rips out Ultrons heart with her magic :0
this is a great video filled with interesting easter eggs and little details that we missed the first time we watched the movie, definitely worth watching again

They were also made by the same studio so that's cool
What really sticks out to me is at 9:52 when the robots start scanning their flaws, and it points out important aspects of their personalities, like how Rick cannot accept that Katie is her own unique person and not just a mirror image of himself, Linda always compares herself to other moms on social media, Aaron is antisocial and freaks out talking to girls, and Katie is neurotic, self-deprecating to mask her insecurities, and has unresolved emotions.
You can also see "secret rage problem" on Linda as foreshadowing on her going apeshit later on
The can being shot out of the vending machine could have been a reference to the movie Maximum Overdrive where all machines become self aware and try to kill people
Can I just say that I love Katie and Aaron's sibling relationship? It's basically the soul of the movie and they make a great team :) and Aaron is my favorite character. I was first afraid he would be like Sheldon Cooper but he's a sweet kid :)
Two things I learned from this movie:
1. They reside in Kentwood, Michigan, which is a suburb of Grand Rapids, a city about a hour west of Detroit.
2. THIS IS THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR BY FAR.

God i loved this movie. They made Katie an amazing and relatable protagonist, and somebody i could connect with on a personal level.

I don't think this is an easter egg but, when the "more advance" robots (the black ones) were summoned by pal and she gave them some orders they keep saying "my queen" and I wondered that Olivia Colman (the voiceactress of the evil phone/pal) was the previous Queen in The Crown. Just saying
There was a big reference to The Lord Of The Rings When their parents are captured and they fled the robot city, showing the tower with the red on top(mordor) and on the next scene when they are being chased on the woods like the Nasghul did to frodo and his friends.
I really can’t believe jan missed this, doesn’t the evil robots look similar to the ones in the emoji movie? Not to mention Linda is voiced by smiler in the emoji movie as well
When Katie first realized they were gonna drive her to college and she was talking to her dad; her dad put his hand on her shoulder kinda like a nod to what Aaron Davis did to miles or what miles did to Gwen in spiderman into spider verse

You missed the Ghostbusters reference
Well, there was one reference you missed. If you saw the Terminator movies, you know the plot: a advanced super computer says to its fellow machines, “screw humanity. We’re going to make our society.” And the machines take over earth and there is an underground resistance who fights back. When the robots deployed by PAL are sent over earth, it’s reminiscent of the Terminator movies where machines take over earth.
I never expected this movie to be so good and these just make it better

What I think you missed is that the time for everyone in the movie is different that ours.When the robot was giving the brief safety presentation,he says “capturing the fleshling sense 2020”. Which means they live in the future and Pal had been planning the takeover way before Mark threw her away.And she only took what Mike did to her hardly beacause he called her part of the Pal Labs “Family”.

That stuff went over my head, even at the end and I tend to notice since small stuff. I saw the pin but couldn't tell if it was meant to allude to LGBT or if it was just a generic colorful pin, much like that with by employees of The Rainbow Factory in The Amazing World of Gumball.

There is one scene where Katie's mom pulled-out a much stronger robot's heart when she sees her daughter being beaten-up(?), its a homage of Mortal Kombat's Kano's signature Fatality

1. Turns off the wifi, causing chaos among humanity
2. Uses the wifi to draw humans into the space pods (deception)
During the mall scene there was a part where they stood over a swarm of chomping laptops and although they said nothing to indicate a reference, all i could think of was "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes??"
