    just one tiny addition for people that don't like to use infinite storage but still want to have more storage than gas/liquid containers: you can put the containers INSIDE a room with liquid/gas so at least you get a bit more (about 1.5x to 2.0x)

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Very good call, that will definitely increase the storage capacity by quite a bit using "normal" methods :)

    • @rerere1569
      @rerere1569 ปีที่แล้ว

      true, but you have to be careful with temperature, especially gases, since they usually come out hot, you may need to create containers out of steel which is not always possible

    for gas storage, its useful to wait for plastic to use a high pressure gas vent, this means youi can use more liquid in the spot (crude oil in your case) and byp[ass the gas overwriting it altogether

      Good call, that is later in the game definitely a smart thing to do. Forgot to mention it here, but the normal one also works like a charm :)

    Loved the video! I got into ONI literally a week ago and already have 40hours. This infinite storage is a game changer for a newbie like me who gets scared of slimebiomes and doesnt know what to do with all that liquid offgassing dirty oxygen. Might I ask how one would do the vent deconstruction step at 18:29? And what about temperature exchange? would i have to pull out the gases in a seperate room as needed to cool? or would putting in radiant pipes with cold water do the trick inside the infinite gas storage?

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is awesome to hear, thank you! And I'm not surprised about your hours, ONI is truly a great game!?
      You can deconstruct it if you build it more dupe friendly then me in this video. I built 2 single tiles to the right of the gas, but only one is needed. Then a dupe can reach it. Or you use the diagonal corner trick. A dupe can deconstruct/build across the corner of 2 tiles of any sort. It's hard to explain in a comment. There are also many tricks to colling the gas. A separate room would work or even cooling it while in the pipe. You can build radiant pipes inside, but depending on the mass and temperature that may not work!

    Sometimes it's useful to create infinite liquid storage rooms with serviceable entry points. These are a bit more complicated but not much more.
    One of the first things I do is my mechanical sorting and infinite storage room. Top level for gas and bottom level for liquids. And in between a row of valves for the sorting loops.

    I might have missed it, but Crude Oil is one of the few items i usually make an infinite storage for before i get a boiler going. And i noticed you didn't cover the liquid vent on top with airflow tiles. With crude being the most dense liquid you have to use a top placed liquid pump with a lighter if you want to use airflow tiles. Obviously still possible with the gas method, but figured i would mention this.

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good point, crude oil would work in reverse with the liquid density method. Truth be told though, if I already have to place the vent on the top, I will just use the gas method. Easier to accomplish ;)

    2 minor upgrades for debris storage.
    a) ladder right above the storage, to make dupes run over it, not jump.
    b) cut corners, and allow pulling from bellow.
    also, you skipped whole storing fluid or gas as solid debris, because what can go wrong if you make 300 tons of solid carbon dioxide on a single tile somewhere.
    same issue with waterfall method, its fast, but its not 100% buletproff, if water freezes or vaporizes, you will have a water nuke going though your map.

  • @desolationjones954
    @desolationjones954 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm... the Escher storage, if the liquid level gets below a certain point it allows the denser gas to move. Problem?

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true, you can't let the liquid disappear on either side of the gases, that is definitely important!

    How does it handle the temperatures of the stored materials? Does the added material take on the temperature of what is already stored or does it actually average it out?

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does average out. All the different materials(like the debris in the solid storage) share the same temperature. You add something new to it, it will equalize with the rest. The more you have already in, the more stable it is.
      This also saves a ton of CPU calculation of all the different temperatures, so if you have FPS issues, this might help!

  • @rerere1569

    There is actually another way to create infinite liquid/gas storage using multiple automated doors as a compressors. (GCFungus highlighted it in his video) Obviously not as effective as putting some liquid on the vent, but feels a bit more natural to me.
    Anyway, great video!

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not seen that particular video from GC, but I know the compressor method using mechanized airlocks and automation. I didn't include it here, because I personally wouldn't recommend it. Yes, it is a bit closer to reality(minus the whole infinite thing, haha), but to build it and use it in an actual game makes little sense when these methods I show here are much easier to build and use :)
      But of course, like all things, that's personal preference :)

    I'm trying to find the error and I can't. The fluid storage works, but I have a problem with the gas - it works for a short time and suddenly all the oil disappears. The gas I pump is below 50"C. After several attempts in the game, I moved to the sandbox and still have the same problem.

    Your comment on the airflow tile only working with dual liquids is incorrect - but you need to place the vent one block higher than what you designed with the airlock doors. So you have the vent, then an empty tile, then your square where you put your pumps. I hope this makes sense, but the empty tile between your liquid vent and the storage space is the difference when using airflow tiles, and it makes for a much cleaner setup (since, especially at high speeds, the dual liquid method can sometimes freak out and mix the liquids together)
    Also, if you're having trouble with the Infinite Air design with your vents being overpressured, first, make sure you're absolutely using High Pressure Gas Vents - they give 20x the pressure range than the normal vent. Second, you likely have too much liquid in front of your vents - I think a recent update made it consider liquid as a blocking mechanism. I find that less than ~15kg of liquid on each tile seems to work okay, but don't recommend going more than 4-vents wide per storage container or it starts to have issues.
    Use a Liquid Meter Valve connected to a pump and set it to dispense 15kg times the number of High Pressure Gas Vents that you have to get the right amount. Or, start smaller (5kg at a time) and add just enough liquid until a full layer develops. The wider your setup, and the less total liquid you have, the more likely you'll deal with the occasional "disappearing and reappearing liquid" blocking your pipe for a tick or two, but it's not a huge deal. Just make sure you don't add too much, or you'll have to tear it down and start over.

    Does any of this still work? I just bought the game in late Nov 2023 (Build U50-583750-5D) and I cannot get either the open sandbox to work (no option in the start screen) or the liquid/gas infinite storage. The solids infinite storage works, but I'd sure like liquid/gas and a true sandbox (not in a game on the asteroid) to play with techniques.

    • @BierTier
      @BierTier  ปีที่แล้ว

      All of those builds still work, in that regard, nothing has changed at all. I'm not sure what you are doing wrong with the liquid/gas storage, but if you want to dive deeper into the issue, feel free to join my Discord server(Link in the Description). Many people there(myself included) are always happy to help solve problems with ONI and even games I don't play on my channel!
      There is no "open sandbox", only the "in a game on the asteroid" version. But, you can do what I did for my videos: Start a new game, activate sandbox mode and delete the entire map. You may want to activate Dev Tools as well to help with deleting the map. Then, when empty, save it. Now you have a "true sandbox" that you can reuse and save with different names etc. as you like :)

    • @dirtboater1
      @dirtboater1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BierTier Thanks for the reply, I totally misunderstood that all of the 'open' sandboxes I've seen started as asteroids!
      I need to pursue the problem with liquid/gas storage and the Dev Tools. I get the 'D' suffix on my build, but don't get the on screen map of commands.
      I'll join your Discord to see what I'm missing.
      Thanks!

    Just one thing. Being an engineer one has to be rather particular with words. I noticed you use liquid and fluid kinda interchangeably but... Every liquid is a fluid but not every fluid is a liquid, gasses are fluids too. sometimes the terms can be synonymous but other times not really.
    so... 13:38 it does matter what kinda fluid you are using, it has to be a liquid.
