Hey ya'll! Some of you asked for a video going over this food storage design that I used in one of my playthroughs because the chilled metal tile design wasn't cooling the food fast enough and ran into issues when moving large amounts of food. There were also some who weren't pleased that the food loss anywhere from 20%-50% freshness with that design as well. The icebox freezer setup will solve all of those problems! Hope ya'll enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this great design! I built one today, and this far I am very happy with it. One thing I noticed: Deleting the tile to create the vacuum worked fine, but I could not get the dupes to sweep the debris afterwards, and they refused to build the conveyor chute too. @2:40 let the excess liquid drain, then destroy the temporary tile where the vacuum should be. The liquid blob and the insulated tile above the vacuum tile will still form a seal, so you can sweep and build the conveyor chute. Then build the insulated tile above the liquid afterwards. Not sure if recent updates limited corner building to tiles only, or if I was just being clumsy. Either way, I am sure it is Meep's fault in the end! I also didn't pay close attention @7:12 - note that the aqua tuner is flipped, you should make sure to do that. This allows freezing the water chamber from the bottom up. Otherwise some surface water might form ice debris which then sinks and gets included later when the bottom water freezes to solid tiles. It doesn't look as nice. I decided to cool the steam turbine via the oxygen already in the room instead of making a vacuum. To make sure it gets cold enough, I snaked radiant pipe through 8 of the 10 tiles (leaving the last two for the steam turbine exhaust.) This works great, if you make sure the cooling loop FIRST goes through the water chamber, THEN the steam turbine. By the time my water chamber was cold enough for action (-23 Celsius) the steam turbine was also sitting at -20 and dropping. So the cooling loop never gets too hot. Thought I'd mention those things, in case it may help someone else. I am obviously not complaining about your design or video, both are fantastic :)
the corner tile building to build the chute was patched out over a year ago when they changed the food storage properties. before that specific update, you were able to keep food from rotting by only fulfilling one of deep freeze or sterile atmosphere and peopled op'ed for the one tile storage you had meep try to build. this meant that you had permanent food storage from cycle 2 after researching the food bin and then it upgrades to infinite permanent food storage when you get the conveyor rail + chute. now after that notorious food update, you have to have both deep freeze and sterile atmosphere and they made it so that you can only corner build tiles from the first building category (air flow, insulated, mesh, tiles) but nothing else. so everything else cant be built diagonally anymore- chutes, liquid vents, etc. of course we still do it, but we have to be a little more creative to achieve it
@@2LegitCity Thank you so much for the detailed reply, I really appreciate that! I played quite a bit two years ago, and have only recently picked up ONI again. With your explanation it all makes sense to me now :)
Just wanted to say thank you for this design, made 1 in my base (with nectar as the coolant.). I no longer have to worry about food spoilage ever and it's easy for the dupes to access the food Now they can experience the joy of breaking their teeth on frozen -50 degrees C food.
Nice build! The disadvantage of this system is if something breaks the vacuum (off gassing, rotten food, etc), then the system will break. Another one is dupes will grab and eat whatever is available, and edibles will have to be restricted at the Consumables menu. The advantage is even if the power is out the dupes can still reach for food, unlike the other chiller box designs where they use a refrigerator and sweepers to pull out food from the box into the fridge..
very nice, just atempted tobuilt this in my base and man that water takes forever to freeze :D its like 1C down per cycle. My dupes will probably starve to death before that freezer reach -30
yeah, that setup time to freeze the water is forever. i did get some ideas to improve on the design by changing it to shorten that step but not lose too much on freeze speed
I have aquestion. why dont swap the spots of musher and grill? that way you can fit the grill into the wasted to tile beside the floor conveyor loader and then bring the gas range closer into the sweeper?
thats only possible if you dont use a gas range. you want a grill in the middle to get the offset sweeper layout necessary for the gas range. you cant do that with either the musher or range because theyre 3tiles tall in a 4 tile room
great setup, my only worry is about the food being spoiled in the vacum, changing it to poluted oxygen. Can it be the case? In case of spoiling on the rail propably we could filter it after going out of the freezer before going to the infinite storage.
only situation where food spoils on the storage tile is if the vacuum is broken on it. or well if you straight up select polluted dirt on the conveyor loader. items that rot become a rot pile item and fall of the rail- either bury or pop out of the tile.
Nice design, I went with single floor great hall, and your design can support more dupes, I'll save space and copy it, also those drywall are nice, is it an addon? or do you unlock them in game?
it was from one of the klei loot boxes called "blueprints". right now you just get skins on a timer by playing the game, weekly limits and resets thursday i believe. other than that they also release a chest every so often with multiple 'blueprints' inside. if you havent claimed the chest yet you still might be able to on the klei rewards page.
My food doesn’t seem to cool beyond 1c even though the tiles it’s passing through I’ve cooled to -60c. I can’t get my barbecue to deep freeze because it’s like there’s no thermal conduction even though through metal tiles it should be cooling. Any idea?
wait, how do you have a vacuum and hydrogen at the same time? vacuum means no gas- so it should say "vacuum" also, you need to add your oil to the tile and let the extra spill completely before making the vacuum. that should leave a drop that shouldnt move anymore
@@2LegitCity sorry my first lenguage is not english. I mean that I replaced the vacuum with hydrogen (the liquid wasnt reaching the deep freeze temperature nor was freezing the ice, so instead of the aquatuner I use the Thermal Regulator with Hydro at -50c) So, I have the food deep frozen but when a couple of cicles pass the crude oil spils on the floor and another gas enter the tile. I hope I made myself clear haha, I don't have much exp in Oni (yet) but having "infinite" food will make things easier.
@@2LegitCity I think it's the amount of crude oil, I used like 400g in my save (some of it spilled out) but then I tried 200g and it seems to stay. Sorry for the troubles, I keep my comment in case anyone have the same problem haha. I have a question outside this video, there is a natural gas geyser in my base, do you know approximately how many generators does it power? Ty
@@JuanLopez-br3ql the amount of crude oil shouldnt matter to be honest, it shouldnt move so i thought there was something with the design i didn't understand- all geysers have a range that they can produce and that means they dont produce the same amount- so you have to analyze and do some math to find out

Do you have a newer version with the new deep fryer in the kitchen? And I would guess nectar is the best coolant for this now.
the new nectar is really strong- and it would indeed make the build alot easier/better. maybe soon? 👀
Can you use brine as the coolant? I'm playing on tera so there's no trees for ethanol but I did find a cool salt slush geyser which outputs brine.
while possible, you'll get occasional pipe breaks due to freezing the liquids so its not recommended. oil would be good if you have it
@@2LegitCity Hmm unfortunate, I thought the slightly lower freezing point than polluted water would make it ok, thanks for the response.
if you really needed to, use hydrogen gas and thermo regulators or even wheezeworts to (VERY SLOWLY) make a giant ice block as a food cooler

i have 2 mil cal and counting for only 10 dupe idk what to do with the food, and thats only with barbecue i haven't even stared using the gas range
sage hatches eat food 👀
poke shells eat rotted food 👀

cool
i freeze my food with cold gas
that works! it just means youre aquatuner or thermo regulator is running more often due to cold energy leak- youre eating area is probably cold
Vacum is better
