Why does McDonald's coffee need to smell like a used burger wrapper? I bought a bag several years ago just to see what the talk was about and was immediately turned off by the smell.

I really enjoy decaf Sumatra coffee. I find a lot of coffees weak and bland. However, I have a long and joyful history of drinking strong ass French roast caffeinated coffee before a bout of pulmonary hypertension took me away from all coffee for a while. Just within the last year of getting all of that under control (with no meds) I've begun adding decaf to my diet (97-99.9% decaffeination is pretty darn close to zero caffeine). That being said, it's a challenge to find fresh roasted decaf Sumatra in my area so I decided to watch this video for alternative ideas. I will definitely check out Peets. We have that at our local grocery store.
I liked the review because it was easy to see the conclusion. I was thinking it'dve been even more helpful if the setup were: 'If you like the taste of Cafe Bustelo, then try the....decaf [Insert Coffee name]. Because at the end of the test, I hadnt even tried the caffeinated versions of the coffees shown LOL.
Hi, I really liked your review. I would have like it even more if you had also done some taste tests with the variables changed.. Ie, with cream, with cream and sugar, cold brew, etc. But as it is, it's still very helpful :)
Thanks for the review! I'm not surprised that Peet's Decaf Major Dickason's was the best. Peet's IS THE BEST TASTING COFFEE EVER! They know how to roast it properly, and it's always fresh. I was curious about the Dunkin' Donuts, and, as I thought, it was one of the worse ones.

Struggling with store-bought decaff as I'm a reformed home-roaster and "pre ground" coffees are all marginal to my taste buds. Ordering some decaff beans next, but want to find a BETTER store-bought decaff.
Peet's Major Dickason's Decaff that is. I see Peet's has many Decaff options, as well as some Half-caff's as well. I may try the 8-O'clock as I know it's locally available. Thanks-really did the to the point video-just can't hang with the overdub loops that never fade out. Sweet Maria's has 4 decaff options right now, in green coffees (Swiss water d/c process), and I'm going to order three pounds of those for what one bag of Peet's costs. The most awful coffee I ever put near my mouth is the discount grocery brand decaf from nearby. It's truly horrible. Overroasting kills half the great flavors of coffee, I just don't get it. Lightly roasted Ethiopian is my favorite of all, but always caffeinated.

The one time that I tasted decaffeinated coffee by accident a long time ago I remember it being extremely nasty. Is there a reason you cannot drink caffeine coffee? If so can you tell me why if you don't mind me asking. Also decaffeinated means there is no caffeine right? Because it looks like I will be doing the same thing you did just now going through and seeing what may possibly be acceptable I am afraid! Lol thank you for the great video by the way.
mimi4sure - I have a similar health issue. For me anyway, it's benign, and more of a nuisance than anything. But still, not a comfortable feeling when you feel that strange thumping in your chest! Like you, my doctor recommended cutting out the caffeine (along with chocolate and other items that contain trace amounts of stimulants). It does seem to help. I'll still have caffeine on occasion, and luckily it's not a huge deal when I do. But the good news is that decaf technology has come a LONG way, and there's many decaf brands that don't taste horrid like they used to. (I cover a couple in this video -- these are all grocery store brands though.) If you go to a specialty or local roster, many now use the "Swiss Water Decaf" process, which leaves the flavor almost entirely intact (in my opinion anyway.) Best of luck to you!
It's funny, I think our tastes are somewhat opposite. I have grown accustomed to Starbucks burnt coffee. However, I will agree that Sumatra is way overdone. I'm a Cafe Verona drinker, but Starbucks chemically decaffeinates Verona (they use a natural process for Sumatra, which is the only reason I tried it). So I don't know if your video is going to help me find a new coffee, since I like my coffee burnt...but I might give Eight O'Clock an attempt. I find their regular coffee to be pretty good. I have blood pressure and I normally avoid normal coffee. Used to drink Turkish coffee in the middle east, but not anymore, as I got pulse rate and blood pressure shoots. Now I am drinking TESCO DECAF GOLD BLEND AND NESCAFE GOLD DECAFF CAPACINO.
Syed, I love Turkish but if I order it online it always is less fresh. If I were to recommend a coffee that passes as a stronger decaf I would not make coffee but , instead espresso and use something like Verona Street. Even better do a half caffeinated and blend in some caffeinated Dark roast I found an amazing one (lots of chocolate) that gives the espresso more crema such as (from Flagstaff roaster) Firecreek Boxcar Espresso.

There's this one TH-camr who said that she loves Mount Hagen Organic Coffee - Cafe, it's an instant coffee which is surprising and it's sold on Amazon. It's more expensive than I usually go but hey, if it's good, might give it a try. Thank you so much for the review!
has anyone tried this brand ^ ? I live off of decaf (for medical reasons!) but I find decaf coffee standards are so low I end up masking the coffee with loads of sugar / other flavorings. HELP!!!! I love the taste of coffee *sobs* would love a good decaf recco
You should do reviews for store bought instant coffee of both regular, and decaf. Also do ones for cold brew, and say decaf done cold brew versus hot brew. Does that improve anything with decaf?

There was Girl up here that pulled a really nasty Decaf review PRANK. She Compared Aldi's Beaumont to FOLGERS tried and true formula. I took the challenge and YUCK!! No wonder so cheap!!

Another suggestion is Rogers Family, they own San Francisco Bay, and a few other upscale brands. They have several decaf selections.

I would imagine you would get different results if you were to use a moka pot or some other method.

I bought DD decaf....tastes so bitter. Not sure how to brew it to make it taste the best. What do you think about DD decaf coffee?
