In the last 5-6 years I went from Fujifilm, to Sony, and now back to Fujifilm. For my use cases full-frame cameras' advantages would require me to spend more money on higher-end bodies/lenses to get the features I wanted. I owned the A7SIII, which was a great video-centric camera, but as a hybrid camera it was limited due to the 12MP sensor. I also owned the A7IV, which was to take care of the photo-centric side of things + B-cam duties, but I was not a fan of the build quality, overheating, and lack of features(low mech/electronic shutter speeds, no RAW output to an external recorder via HDMI, limited video codec choices). I was about to replace it with the A7RV, but then opted for the stacked sensor X-H2s and 40MP X-H2... This 2-camera set-up covers my needs very well. On the video-side both cameras can output ProRes RAW to my Atomos Ninja Ultra... 6.2K Open Gate... 8K up to 30P... ProRes internal. I'm having a lot of enjoyment with these 2 beasts!
The way the X-H2s is setup makes it such a great hybrid camera! Man I love that custom 1-7 dial. I have absolutely no complaints about that camera other than that I just prefer full frame. It’s such a beast!
@@danvirchow there are some interesting videos out there showing when processing the Fuji still files properly they have less noise and more detail than any full frame on the market. Shown by printing 3 meter images. And the videos side of things the tiny bit of digital noise that happens at high iso imo is sooooo much more pleasing on the Fuji. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. At the end of the day it will be the composition and story being told that really matters. Just wish Sony and Fuji could have a baby ;) 😂😂
I have an a7rv and literally think about selling it every week. And taking a trip to Italy 😝 My xt5 produces more pleasing video to my eyes. Both are fantastic but I am insanely neurotic when it comes to a pleasing/organic looking image.
@@JasonLawrenceNoel come on… saying apsc beats full frame in low light is not just misleading. Get both images into capture one export to the same exactly size, then take another look. There’s no need to mislead really, Fuji cameras are great but they have limitations because of sensor size just plain physics, otherwise we are getting into Phil Schiller’s “dslr” type of arguments.
@@kiv9431 I agree in most situations when I shoot low light like at a wedding in a bar for example… my a7rv usually beats out my xt5 in less noise…. But I have had instances where I get cleaner files on my xt5 when doing nighttime photo walks in NYC. I actually feel like it has something to do with maybe the way the Sony heats up and starts to act? It’s really weird honestly. As far as my previous comment, yes I have seen cleaner and sharper images come from Fuji apsc vs a new Canon FF when printing very large 3 feet + images.
4:34 you can always re-apply the filters on top of the RAW files using Fuji software. Their color profiles are embedded in the RAW files, so this is actually a moot point, you don't have to store the files as JPEG at all if you don't want to publish straight from your camera.
i actually think from what i have seen and researched, fuji x raw studio is probably the most underrated software and i rarely see people using it, even tho it fits the fuji workflow perfectly. you dont want to spend hours editing flat raws in LR, i get it. but with this program, you still shoot raw...without really using raw? if that makes sense. instead of pressing the shutter and the camera prints the jpg and you re locked in. its raw as long as it is on the camera only. as soon as you come home and you open fuji software, it will then use the camera itself to convert them to jpeg while you can apply whatever filmsim to it you want retrospectively. and people seem to not do that because they are like ''yeah but i dont shoot raw'' its kind of strange to explain... you shoot raw...but you dont really shoot raw this way. its not a raw workflow. all that changes is: press shutter and the camera converts it to jpeg instantly changes into: it converts it to jpeg on import you dont save the raws on your harddrive. the raws are just temporary on your sd card until your camera converts them to jpg on import instead of converting them right away.
this is so true for so many photographers including me. I feel like I have finally settled. I own an X-H2s for my professional video work and an R6 for my profession photography. The X-H2s also doubled up as my travel camera and fun use.
Looking at the a7c ii too here. What are the lenses that you are going to pair it with? And what is you experience with the evf, heard it was quite lacking.
Currently I’m pairing it with the 20-70mm f/4 and 24mm f/1.4 and it has been a great combo for general everyday capture. The EVF certainly leaves something to be desired, but I don’t have any real complaints about it. It’s just small. I don’t mind the rangefinder positioning of it as much as I thought I would. If you’re looking for a fun camera to take everywhere, this is a great choice!
@@AnankeAndria every lens I’ve gotten for the system so far has been very sharp. I picked up the Sony 40mm f2.5 for a walk around lens and it’s surprisingly very sharp as well!
I'm in the same spot as you; hence, I'm watching your video. I never connected with film sims either, so I always shot in RAW. But at the moment, my gripe is that I observed that none of the Fuji glasses are as sharp as the Sony ones. I found a lot of sample RAW images for A6700+E16-50 and AC7II+20-70, and they are even sharper than my XF331.4, considered one of the best Fuji lenses plus its a prime. Secondly, by playing with the raw files on both systems, there are some images with lovely Fuji colours, but it's hard to compare because I don't have Sony, so I could take the same image from Sony. However looking at the sample images I could get from internet, Sony is no slouch either on these newer bodies. Did you feel the same thing as now you've both systems?
Definitely! After using Sony for a couple months now, I don’t think I could ever go back to Fujifilm. The images are sharper, the tech is higher, and I don’t see any big difference in the color. If you know how to edit, you can get anything you want out of any image. Plus, the size of Sony’s gear is one of the major selling points to me. If you’re thinking about making the switch, I say do it! Or rent some Sony gear to see how you like it hands on.
@@danvirchow I’m tossing between 7CII+20-70 or A6700+E16-55. I love the look, sharpness of A6700 combo more than 7CII combo. Plus 16-55 is faster lens. Also in long run crop lenses are cheaper. I understand the benefit of FF but I only do landscape, street and some family portraits. All as hobby so I don’t think I’ll get any advantage by getting 7CiI combo over A6700. Am I right? Or am I missing something?
I have! Took it out on tour this summer and it was great. Also doubled as my street camera on days off. Can't say enough good things about this camera!
I had a serious accident with my XE4. I dropped it right on the shutter release, and because I had my hipster add-on soft touch release screwed in, it punched out the main board under the top cap. Total frontal cortex death. I did the math on repair, and it would have been a lot. Parts and labour about a grand, and a long turnaround time. Being of some means, I let it die and bought an A7CR. I already owned GMaster glass for my video work with the FX3. It was an opportunity to put all my creative stuff in one mount. So far so good. What I used to get out of camera with the Fuji I now get with a little post processing on the files from the CR. No biggie. The only issue so far is finding something to reproduce the magic of my 50mm F2 X in E mount. I'm really thinking it may have to be an 85mm or 90mm prime. Something that does not imbalance the small body of the CR. To anyone thinking of making the change, I don't think you need to. Ride your Fuji into the dirt and change to another system when tragedy strikes. No need to change willy nilly. The X mount system taught me to be a photographer. And it could teach any novice too.
How is the Sony app? Is it better than Fuji's? Can you also transfer RAW files and videos to your smartphone? PS: I'm a Fuji user with GAS syndrome and I'm tired of waiting for my X100VI, which probably won't arrive for another 6 months. I've been interested in the Sony A7C for a long time, but I'm really afraid of being disappointed with the colors since I'm used to Fuji's JPEGs. How are Sony's JPEGs?
Sony jpegs are fine at best. Usable. They don’t have the customizability of Fuji’s files, but I personally always found film sims underwhelming. Turns out I like editing photos more than I knew! The Sony app works well. Connects fairly seemlessly and the remote shooting works well. But let’s face it…all camera phone apps suck in their own way 😅
@@danvirchow Here it is! I finally gave in! I bought the A7C II today (with the Sony 35mm f1.8) and... I'm shocked... the AF compared to the Fuji XT4 is just amazing, wow. And the image quality is incredible... even in JPEG. It's crazy!
be careful bro, lots of fuji shooters hate it when people leave fuji for other systems. I guarantee youll get comments such as "sony has no soul" "color sucks" "sony is a computer" 😂
i cant say too much about the color thing BUT i can imagine that this entire ''color science'' stuff is pretty much bs tbh. i used multiple cameras jpgs and raws and i also downloaded countless of files from cameras i dont own. my overall experience so far was: filter is a filter is a filter. if you apply a filter or color grading with an in camera preset or you click that preset in LR makes close to no difference whatsoever. they differ slightly but you can pretty much get to the exact same colors in post by simply adjusting calibration or HSL a little bit. its more a matter of: do you wanna get a somewhat usable image sooc or do you mind pressing 1 button in LR. i downloaded an entire folder of sample files from all different cameras mixed together. if you dont look at the metafiles and you just go through those images as a ''blindtest'' , no chance you could stop by and say: oh yeah this photos is clearly a nikon z6 photo, this photo is taken on a sony, this photo is a fuji xe2 but this photo here is clearly a xt5 because you know you clearly see those nuances in the subtle color variations of the different x trans sensor coming through. lol... you literally can not tell. it reminded me of a very weird situation where i was posting a photo on reddit and my camera setup was listed aswell and someone said: ''nice, i really love those olympus colors'' and i was like...dafuq are you talking? i heavily edited that photo, i pretty much color graded and changed every single color in this photo there is. if you look at the raw file, you wouldnt even think its the same image. those colors have NOTHING to do with what raw file my camera produced but with how i edited them to look like.
does Fuji or Sony have EVF? I like using that instead of OVF. are Fujifilm good for absolute beginners who want to play around and learn photography without it being complicated?
They both have EVFs! Both cameras are great if you just want to pick up and start shooting. The Fuji will take a little bit more effort once you dive into the menu since it’s a little bit more expansive. Due to the outstanding autofocus of the Sony, it may be a better camera to pick up and start with. However, it is considerably more expensive.
I’m looking at Fujis and I love the design of cameras, the experience. But apsc is just too small. How do I get the look of full frame 35mm f1.2 in Fuji? Not possible. With full frame on the other hand you have the best of both worlds. Especially with higher resolution cameras you can use apsc pancake lens and still have 26 mp resolution. And it’s still compact enough to fit into my jacket pocket! But in terms of camera body design Fuji wins hands down
Not having the "full frame look" was definitely a reason I switched. I just felt my Fuji photos were missing something. And yes, now I also have a Sony A7RV that has an APSC mode so I have the best of both worlds.
I have same exact experiences. The only i miss from fuji is its fun experience when shooting. Few years back i bought fuji as cheap alternative from full frame but newest fuji cameras have same price with sony full frame. Not worth it anymore for me.
The 1.2, 1.4 primes and zooms might be heavier on Sony. The XF 16-55mm mk2 is 410g vs 24-70 GM mk2 695g, also the size is larger. Maybe the x-t5 is larger and taller because by default it is an SLR design while the A7cii are rangefinder style or maybe because of the EVF specs?
I tend to use smaller lenses on my A7C II as size is the prize with that body. But it's full frame capabilities with that size are the main selling point to me.
everyone is closing in and no one can and does not want to honestly say what they think about this system. I speak from my own experience and a lot of studying and trying to solve the problem. Autofocus is so disastrous it's ridiculous and sad at this time.
when sony is destroying fuji in every way these days, why do you still recommend both? i made a stupid decision by buying xt5 1 month ago because people kept saying fuji is good camera, lenses are cheap, ff and aps-c not so different. now i can't find a fast telephoto lens that can give low light performance for wildlife because there is none(5k usd lens aside) in fuji system. So I decided to go with macro, good thing fuji has 80mm f2.8 macro. but wait! Sony has 90mm f2.8 macro and it's fking cheaper than fuji!! what's the point of recommending fuji after all this... sorry if this sounded offensive, I just don't want people to make the mistake I made.
Totally understand where you’re coming from. I still recommend both bc they are appealing in different ways. The color science is different between the two, and one may be more appealing to someone than the other. Also, the film simulations are very cool. I just wasn’t into them as much as I thought I would be. Then there’s the aesthetic aspect: some just may prefer the Fuji bodies. I see the pros and cons of both!
I don't think people who do proper research into what camera/lenses to buy for their specific shooting criteria will make such mistakes... if you think Sony is destroying Fujifilm in every way, then you may need to do more research.
@@GrayGhostDog1 after using both, the most notable differences to me are the autofocus and full frame/APSC dynamic. I think both systems are great and would recommend them to all. The “advantages” of either system are basically just personal preference.
@@danvirchow I agree 100%! The closest things to get to my "needs and wants" without investing in more professional hybrid camera systems was the X-H series of cameras. I come extremely close to covering all my use cases. Fujifilm's AF performance in their latest cameras is good enough for me... it has a bunch more "pro-sumer" features than any full-frame camera near their price-points... AF is important, but it was not the only thing that mattered to me. Some of the perceived APS-C limitations I can workaround quite easily... what I find harder to overcome are skewing in my photos and jell-o/rolling shutter performance in video.
Canon R6 Mii user here for my work and will keep using. Bought an XT5 for the film sims, travel and fun. Disappointed to say the least. Considering for a Sony A7cII.
I much prefer the A7CII after spending ample time with it the past few months. Both are great cameras in their own right, but I just prefer the full frame nature of the Sony.

I have decided recently to switch from fuji to sony as well. Will be selling my xt 3, x pro 3 and bunch of lenses. I have been using crop sensor camera's for a long time starting with canon before fuji. I agree with all the points you made in the video.
Yeah I’m doing similar, from X-H2S to A7C. Ultimately the Fuji was big, I was daunted by all the choices, and the top lenses are also biggish and the cost isn’t far from the full frame equivalent. A lot of that is my own choice, I should have maybe gone for the Fuji that was closer to my level of shooting. I mean, usually I just want an auto mode so I can concentrate on composition, etc. sorry, Fuji. It’s not you, it’s me.
tbh, i loved my old Sony a7c camera. its AF is no competition to Fuji .a lot of fuji owners move to others just becoz the AF. they want something similar to iphone/smartphone cam. its like driving a modern car. fully auto, dual clutch, turbocharged. 0-62 in less 5s. but i still using Fujis even knowing its AF is ridiculous. But hey, driving a manual vtec NA car still fun. maybe not the fastest but you get the jobs done. and of coz the FS...
@@p1nt1t yeah, autofocus was never really a problem for me when it came to what I was using my Fuji cameras for. However, I never used them in a concert environment because I didn’t think I would be satisfied with the AF speed. But for street photography (which I feel is what Fuji’s main priority is), the AF is just fine 👍🏼
I appreciate the perspective. Canon was my camera of choice and I owned it for a long time. (Still have it.) I got uninspired - depressed maybe with life and photography. Fuji revived photography for me. Sony though, they really pushed the market! Canon and Nikon had to change to keep up. I guess the moral or the story is shoot what you want.
Great perspective! I made the opposite decision and I’ve been super comfortable with Fuji and I haven’t looked back. I champion your decision to switch because it’s what was best for you. Glad to hear other’s reasonings! My big thing was the sims. My work requires super fast turnarounds. My deliverables are usually required within same day for a few of my shoots. Being able to send in jpgs almost immediately got me into a niche clientele that’s helped my business. Love the community as well. 💪🏼

Man, I just never use the film simulations for anything. They look great in camera, but I would never post them without wanting to edit them further first. Hope you’re digging your Sony stuff!

Sony has the best camera offering right now, this may change in the future, but as of the year 2024 Sony is the clear winner. It is not that Fujifilm cameras are bad (except their autofocus), it is the fact that the quality of Sony cameras is so excellent. The new Sony cameras are freakishly responsive (try changing from video to photo), the type of customization you get is next level, and the autofocus is second to none (not to mention the endless collection of 1st and 3rd party lenses etc etc). And to those that say that Sony cameras have no soul they are probably the same people who brag about Fujifilm's film recipes while shooting everything in raw and spent exactly the same amount of time editing like they would do in any other camera system 😂
I agree that Sony has the best offering right now between cameras and lenses. I recently picked up a Lumix camera and see a lot of potential with their system, but their lens selection is severely lacking. Fortunately, all camera makers really are making great products these days, but Sony sees a step above!
i share the same experience like you. curious bout fuji, bought a xt10, upgrade to xt3 (now xs20). found out its flaw. end up felt lik the retro design is just too extra. now i back to Sony. Still enjoy my xs20 pasm design. The xs20 is also small and light and i really recommend this body alot. Sony is more for my serious work, while i use Fuji for casual, for fun, not so serious work.
Yes, the Sony is still smaller. But it highly depends on the lenses you use. There are some super compact primes for Sony. But as soon as you want to use a standard zoom in the range of 28 - 70 (FF) you end up with a big and heavy combination. That's one reason why I stay with my X-H2s. Yes, the body has the size and the weight of a Sony A7 IV. But with a Sigma 18-50 it is still lighter and more versatile than any FF combination. And with the tiny Fuji F2 Primes it is still quite lite. I also looked at the A6700, which is also a great camera. But I use the EVF most of the time. And the tiny EVF of the A6700, X-S20, A7C (ii) is a deal breaker for me. And for some reason I don't have any issues with the Fuji AF-C.

For me it’s only an autofocus thing ;) . Recently started printing huge prints and man again the Fuji files printed look soooo good imo. The Sony has such a digital look … you know what I mean? Now I also shoot shooting 5k running races all over the state aaaannnndddd give me my Sony all day. Nice video, and I’ve read some of the comments below and a lot of people are somewhat negative in every aspect. Fuji is good, Sony is also good so is Nikon and canon. But at the end of the day none of these cameras will make you a better photographer. It’s all about your vision what you see and how you decide to compose your frame. Period. I get fed up with the way people talk about gear it’s getting to such a stage now where people are just pathetic. Look back at the true hero’s of photography….. Joel Meyerowitz, Bresson, Capa, Penn, my god there’s to many to list. Whatever camera you have in 2024 and whatever the future brings will always be better than what these guys had many many years ago. But they took outstanding images they weren’t gear FREAKS……So I’ll say it now it’s not about how SHARP your lenses are nor is it about the CAMERA or PIXELS. To many people now just take pictures for the sake of putting something on social media with no real meaning or intention behind the image that to me says a lot about people today and there mindset. Shoot pictures by all means but give that picture meaning and whether it was shot with a box brownie camera or a leica shouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference because the intention is in the image. And yes I like so many have been used canon, Nikon Sony, Fuji. And I like Sony a7riii and a7cii now as my main set up and I haven’t been disappointed because 42 and 33mp are more than enough for any image wether on social media or for printing to amazing large sizes if required. SO LETS JUST CRACK ON AND ENJOY PHOTOGRAPHY WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT GEAR.
No doubt no doubt. For me it was a matter of size and power and I found what I was looking for with Sony. But you're correct: better gear won't make you a better photographer.
@@danvirchow Thanks! Can't decide between fuji xt5 and A7cII. Need a camera for traveling (photo only). Have an a7III with two heavy zoom lenses + Fuji x100v right now. Sony is just too heavy and so unpleasant to use and Fuji...not much lighter than Sony, especially in pair with 16-80 f4. Maybe I should just stick with what I have for now...
@@aleksandrmikhailov3255 I would personally recommend the A7C II for a travel camera. It’s smaller than the X-T5, and in my opinion, a more capable overall camera being full frame. Also, that autofocus is UNREAL. Hard to consider anything else once you’ve used it. Maybe go to your local camera store and play around with an A7C II or rent one!

In my 45 years of photography, both as a professional photographer and as an allround hobby photographer, I have never bought a Camera because of it´s "look" ! A Camera is a TOOL !!!
The “”“color science””” of Fuji is great that’s why i can not leave Fuji, magic just happens. autofocus well 70 percent 90 percent accuracy is not enough for you it’s not the tech to blame. Unless you’re shooting small birds/wild life i don’t see any point to moan about autofocus on Fuji. Have you check Leica or Hasselblad autofocus system and accuracy? Full frame vs apsc yes the depth is a fact but soon with a .90 aperture it will be sorted.🏄♂️🏄♂️😇😇
Certainly nothing wrong with Fuji AF, but the Sony system is just better. I prefer to have all of my shots in focus when it comes to editing so I have maximum options. Fuji colors are great though!
TL;DW: everyone with sony, so I got sony too. He does not actually says that, but that's what behind all of it. If you compare sizes, compare the lenses too… For what's it is worth, I don't use neither sony, nor fuji.
"Funktionality" does not get together with a Sony A6x or A7c! I owned a A6000 for years, than PEN F, than a GH6 (because of video). And I thouht: Holy Moly a cam can be sooo easy to handle. I sold (not yet) the GH6 for a X-H2s, because it is a better Hybrid. In terms of funktionality the X-H2s is not to be beaten: 7 (seven) custom modes plus video and PASM. (Mine: C1=6.2k open gate, C2=4K, C3=4k120, C4=FHD240, C5=BKT, C6= Panorama, C7=preshot up to 40FPS), plus sholder display which shows me the details that are dialed in, also in the dark, or off! Just a click and you are good to go. Joystick and several custom buttons. 5.76mio 120p 0.8mag. Viewfinder. no overheating Cf ex B cards = faaast and cheap (+SD) When I WAS a Sony A6 User I wished a FF in a compact and stylish form would come out. Exactly what a A7CII is. Pretty much. But I am 8 years more experienced now. Imho an A7C is a perfect cam for beginners.

i actually think from what i have seen and researched, fuji x raw studio is probably the most underrated software and i rarely see people using it, even tho it fits the fuji workflow perfectly.
you dont want to spend hours editing flat raws in LR, i get it. but with this program, you still shoot raw...without really using raw? if that makes sense. instead of pressing the shutter and the camera prints the jpg and you re locked in. its raw as long as it is on the camera only. as soon as you come home and you open fuji software, it will then use the camera itself to convert them to jpeg while you can apply whatever filmsim to it you want retrospectively. and people seem to not do that because they are like ''yeah but i dont shoot raw''
its kind of strange to explain... you shoot raw...but you dont really shoot raw this way. its not a raw workflow. all that changes is:
press shutter and the camera converts it to jpeg instantly
changes into:
it converts it to jpeg on import
you dont save the raws on your harddrive. the raws are just temporary on your sd card until your camera converts them to jpg on import instead of converting them right away.

this is so true for so many photographers including me. I feel like I have finally settled. I own an X-H2s for my professional video work and an R6 for my profession photography. The X-H2s also doubled up as my travel camera and fun use.
The X-H2s is one of the most well set-up hybrid cameras I've ever used. It's so quick to navigate through with the dials!
Looking at the a7c ii too here. What are the lenses that you are going to pair it with? And what is you experience with the evf, heard it was quite lacking.
Currently I’m pairing it with the 20-70mm f/4 and 24mm f/1.4 and it has been a great combo for general everyday capture.
The EVF certainly leaves something to be desired, but I don’t have any real complaints about it. It’s just small. I don’t mind the rangefinder positioning of it as much as I thought I would. If you’re looking for a fun camera to take everywhere, this is a great choice!

@@AnankeAndria every lens I’ve gotten for the system so far has been very sharp. I picked up the Sony 40mm f2.5 for a walk around lens and it’s surprisingly very sharp as well!

I'm in the same spot as you; hence, I'm watching your video. I never connected with film sims either, so I always shot in RAW. But at the moment, my gripe is that I observed that none of the Fuji glasses are as sharp as the Sony ones. I found a lot of sample RAW images for A6700+E16-50 and AC7II+20-70, and they are even sharper than my XF331.4, considered one of the best Fuji lenses plus its a prime. Secondly, by playing with the raw files on both systems, there are some images with lovely Fuji colours, but it's hard to compare because I don't have Sony, so I could take the same image from Sony. However looking at the sample images I could get from internet, Sony is no slouch either on these newer bodies. Did you feel the same thing as now you've both systems?
Definitely! After using Sony for a couple months now, I don’t think I could ever go back to Fujifilm. The images are sharper, the tech is higher, and I don’t see any big difference in the color. If you know how to edit, you can get anything you want out of any image. Plus, the size of Sony’s gear is one of the major selling points to me. If you’re thinking about making the switch, I say do it! Or rent some Sony gear to see how you like it hands on.
@@danvirchow I’m tossing between 7CII+20-70 or A6700+E16-55. I love the look, sharpness of A6700 combo more than 7CII combo. Plus 16-55 is faster lens. Also in long run crop lenses are cheaper. I understand the benefit of FF but I only do landscape, street and some family portraits. All as hobby so I don’t think I’ll get any advantage by getting 7CiI combo over A6700. Am I right? Or am I missing something?

I have! Took it out on tour this summer and it was great. Also doubled as my street camera on days off. Can't say enough good things about this camera!
I had a serious accident with my XE4. I dropped it right on the shutter release, and because I had my hipster add-on soft touch release screwed in, it punched out the main board under the top cap. Total frontal cortex death.
I did the math on repair, and it would have been a lot. Parts and labour about a grand, and a long turnaround time.
Being of some means, I let it die and bought an A7CR. I already owned GMaster glass for my video work with the FX3. It was an opportunity to put all my creative stuff in one mount.
So far so good. What I used to get out of camera with the Fuji I now get with a little post processing on the files from the CR. No biggie.
The only issue so far is finding something to reproduce the magic of my 50mm F2 X in E mount. I'm really thinking it may have to be an 85mm or 90mm prime. Something that does not imbalance the small body of the CR.
To anyone thinking of making the change, I don't think you need to. Ride your Fuji into the dirt and change to another system when tragedy strikes. No need to change willy nilly.
The X mount system taught me to be a photographer. And it could teach any novice too.
I can recommend the little Samyang 75mm f1.8. And I think TT-Artisan recently released a 75mm f2 with autofocus too.
How is the Sony app? Is it better than Fuji's? Can you also transfer RAW files and videos to your smartphone? PS: I'm a Fuji user with GAS syndrome and I'm tired of waiting for my X100VI, which probably won't arrive for another 6 months. I've been interested in the Sony A7C for a long time, but I'm really afraid of being disappointed with the colors since I'm used to Fuji's JPEGs. How are Sony's JPEGs?
Sony jpegs are fine at best. Usable. They don’t have the customizability of Fuji’s files, but I personally always found film sims underwhelming. Turns out I like editing photos more than I knew!
The Sony app works well. Connects fairly seemlessly and the remote shooting works well. But let’s face it…all camera phone apps suck in their own way 😅
@@danvirchow Here it is! I finally gave in! I bought the A7C II today (with the Sony 35mm f1.8) and... I'm shocked... the AF compared to the Fuji XT4 is just amazing, wow. And the image quality is incredible... even in JPEG. It's crazy!

Ha, so far more people are with me than against me! I really do like both systems...Sony just works better for me!
i cant say too much about the color thing BUT i can imagine that this entire ''color science'' stuff is pretty much bs tbh. i used multiple cameras jpgs and raws and i also downloaded countless of files from cameras i dont own. my overall experience so far was: filter is a filter is a filter. if you apply a filter or color grading with an in camera preset or you click that preset in LR makes close to no difference whatsoever. they differ slightly but you can pretty much get to the exact same colors in post by simply adjusting calibration or HSL a little bit. its more a matter of: do you wanna get a somewhat usable image sooc or do you mind pressing 1 button in LR.
i downloaded an entire folder of sample files from all different cameras mixed together. if you dont look at the metafiles and you just go through those images as a ''blindtest'' , no chance you could stop by and say: oh yeah this photos is clearly a nikon z6 photo, this photo is taken on a sony, this photo is a fuji xe2 but this photo here is clearly a xt5 because you know you clearly see those nuances in the subtle color variations of the different x trans sensor coming through. lol... you literally can not tell.
it reminded me of a very weird situation where i was posting a photo on reddit and my camera setup was listed aswell and someone said: ''nice, i really love those olympus colors''
and i was like...dafuq are you talking? i heavily edited that photo, i pretty much color graded and changed every single color in this photo there is. if you look at the raw file, you wouldnt even think its the same image. those colors have NOTHING to do with what raw file my camera produced but with how i edited them to look like.

They both have EVFs! Both cameras are great if you just want to pick up and start shooting. The Fuji will take a little bit more effort once you dive into the menu since it’s a little bit more expansive. Due to the outstanding autofocus of the Sony, it may be a better camera to pick up and start with. However, it is considerably more expensive.
I’m looking at Fujis and I love the design of cameras, the experience. But apsc is just too small. How do I get the look of full frame 35mm f1.2 in Fuji? Not possible. With full frame on the other hand you have the best of both worlds. Especially with higher resolution cameras you can use apsc pancake lens and still have 26 mp resolution. And it’s still compact enough to fit into my jacket pocket! But in terms of camera body design Fuji wins hands down
Not having the "full frame look" was definitely a reason I switched. I just felt my Fuji photos were missing something. And yes, now I also have a Sony A7RV that has an APSC mode so I have the best of both worlds.

The 1.2, 1.4 primes and zooms might be heavier on Sony. The XF 16-55mm mk2 is 410g vs 24-70 GM mk2 695g, also the size is larger. Maybe the x-t5 is larger and taller because by default it is an SLR design while the A7cii are rangefinder style or maybe because of the EVF specs?
I tend to use smaller lenses on my A7C II as size is the prize with that body. But it's full frame capabilities with that size are the main selling point to me.

everyone is closing in and no one can and does not want to honestly say what they think about this system. I speak from my own experience and a lot of studying and trying to solve the problem. Autofocus is so disastrous it's ridiculous and sad at this time.

when sony is destroying fuji in every way these days, why do you still recommend both? i made a stupid decision by buying xt5 1 month ago because people kept saying fuji is good camera, lenses are cheap, ff and aps-c not so different. now i can't find a fast telephoto lens that can give low light performance for wildlife because there is none(5k usd lens aside) in fuji system. So I decided to go with macro, good thing fuji has 80mm f2.8 macro. but wait! Sony has 90mm f2.8 macro and it's fking cheaper than fuji!! what's the point of recommending fuji after all this... sorry if this sounded offensive, I just don't want people to make the mistake I made.
Totally understand where you’re coming from. I still recommend both bc they are appealing in different ways. The color science is different between the two, and one may be more appealing to someone than the other. Also, the film simulations are very cool. I just wasn’t into them as much as I thought I would be. Then there’s the aesthetic aspect: some just may prefer the Fuji bodies. I see the pros and cons of both!
I don't think people who do proper research into what camera/lenses to buy for their specific shooting criteria will make such mistakes... if you think Sony is destroying Fujifilm in every way, then you may need to do more research.
@@GrayGhostDog1 after using both, the most notable differences to me are the autofocus and full frame/APSC dynamic. I think both systems are great and would recommend them to all. The “advantages” of either system are basically just personal preference.
@@danvirchow I agree 100%! The closest things to get to my "needs and wants" without investing in more professional hybrid camera systems was the X-H series of cameras. I come extremely close to covering all my use cases. Fujifilm's AF performance in their latest cameras is good enough for me... it has a bunch more "pro-sumer" features than any full-frame camera near their price-points... AF is important, but it was not the only thing that mattered to me. Some of the perceived APS-C limitations I can workaround quite easily... what I find harder to overcome are skewing in my photos and jell-o/rolling shutter performance in video.

Canon R6 Mii user here for my work and will keep using. Bought an XT5 for the film sims, travel and fun. Disappointed to say the least. Considering for a Sony A7cII.
I much prefer the A7CII after spending ample time with it the past few months. Both are great cameras in their own right, but I just prefer the full frame nature of the Sony.
I just switch to A7C2 from XT5.

Lenses are the other sticking point. Fuji lenses are smaller and cheaper if compared to most of the Sony lenses, specially the G glass.

I have decided recently to switch from fuji to sony as well. Will be selling my xt 3, x pro 3 and bunch of lenses. I have been using crop sensor camera's for a long time starting with canon before fuji. I agree with all the points you made in the video.

Yeah I’m doing similar, from X-H2S to A7C. Ultimately the Fuji was big, I was daunted by all the choices, and the top lenses are also biggish and the cost isn’t far from the full frame equivalent. A lot of that is my own choice, I should have maybe gone for the Fuji that was closer to my level of shooting. I mean, usually I just want an auto mode so I can concentrate on composition, etc. sorry, Fuji. It’s not you, it’s me.

tbh, i loved my old Sony a7c camera. its AF is no competition to Fuji .a lot of fuji owners move to others just becoz the AF. they want something similar to iphone/smartphone cam. its like driving a modern car. fully auto, dual clutch, turbocharged. 0-62 in less 5s. but i still using Fujis even knowing its AF is ridiculous. But hey, driving a manual vtec NA car still fun. maybe not the fastest but you get the jobs done. and of coz the FS...
@@p1nt1t yeah, autofocus was never really a problem for me when it came to what I was using my Fuji cameras for. However, I never used them in a concert environment because I didn’t think I would be satisfied with the AF speed. But for street photography (which I feel is what Fuji’s main priority is), the AF is just fine 👍🏼

Canon was my camera of choice and I owned it for a long time. (Still have it.) I got uninspired - depressed maybe with life and photography.
Fuji revived photography for me. Sony though, they really pushed the market! Canon and Nikon had to change to keep up.

My big thing was the sims. My work requires super fast turnarounds. My deliverables are usually required within same day for a few of my shoots. Being able to send in jpgs almost immediately got me into a niche clientele that’s helped my business. Love the community as well. 💪🏼

Man, I just never use the film simulations for anything. They look great in camera, but I would never post them without wanting to edit them further first. Hope you’re digging your Sony stuff!

Sony has the best camera offering right now, this may change in the future, but as of the year 2024 Sony is the clear winner. It is not that Fujifilm cameras are bad (except their autofocus), it is the fact that the quality of Sony cameras is so excellent. The new Sony cameras are freakishly responsive (try changing from video to photo), the type of customization you get is next level, and the autofocus is second to none (not to mention the endless collection of 1st and 3rd party lenses etc etc). And to those that say that Sony cameras have no soul they are probably the same people who brag about Fujifilm's film recipes while shooting everything in raw and spent exactly the same amount of time editing like they would do in any other camera system 😂
I agree that Sony has the best offering right now between cameras and lenses. I recently picked up a Lumix camera and see a lot of potential with their system, but their lens selection is severely lacking. Fortunately, all camera makers really are making great products these days, but Sony sees a step above!

i share the same experience like you. curious bout fuji, bought a xt10, upgrade to xt3 (now xs20). found out its flaw. end up felt lik the retro design is just too extra. now i back to Sony. Still enjoy my xs20 pasm design. The xs20 is also small and light and i really recommend this body alot.
Sony is more for my serious work, while i use Fuji for casual, for fun, not so serious work.

No regrets so far! Loving the size and power of the Sony cameras and lenses.
Yes, the Sony is still smaller. But it highly depends on the lenses you use. There are some super compact primes for Sony. But as soon as you want to use a standard zoom in the range of 28 - 70 (FF) you end up with a big and heavy combination.
That's one reason why I stay with my X-H2s. Yes, the body has the size and the weight of a Sony A7 IV. But with a Sigma 18-50 it is still lighter and more versatile than any FF combination. And with the tiny Fuji F2 Primes it is still quite lite. I also looked at the A6700, which is also a great camera. But I use the EVF most of the time. And the tiny EVF of the A6700, X-S20, A7C (ii) is a deal breaker for me. And for some reason I don't have any issues with the Fuji AF-C.

a6700 is a powerhouse! In terms of an APSC camera, it seems to be the most capable. I have also considered getting that body.

I own both cameras… and after shooting weddings with my Sony for a few months I still find my Fuji images more pleasing than my Sony files. For me it’s only an autofocus thing ;) . Recently started printing huge prints and man again the Fuji files printed look soooo good imo. The Sony has such a digital look … you know what I mean?
Now I also shoot shooting 5k running races all over the state aaaannnndddd give me my Sony all day. I will never miss a shot and the artistic value doesn’t have to be there 🤙

They certainly both have their charms and I would recommend either system to anyone. I am personally just connecting more with my Sony gear.
Nice video, and I’ve read some of the comments below and a lot of people are somewhat negative in every aspect. Fuji is good, Sony is also good so is Nikon and canon. But at the end of the day none of these cameras will make you a better photographer. It’s all about your vision what you see and how you decide to compose your frame. Period. I get fed up with the way people talk about gear it’s getting to such a stage now where people are just pathetic. Look back at the true hero’s of photography….. Joel Meyerowitz, Bresson, Capa, Penn, my god there’s to many to list. Whatever camera you have in 2024 and whatever the future brings will always be better than what these guys had many many years ago. But they took outstanding images they weren’t gear FREAKS……So I’ll say it now it’s not about how SHARP your lenses are nor is it about the CAMERA or PIXELS. To many people now just take pictures for the sake of putting something on social media with no real meaning or intention behind the image that to me says a lot about people today and there mindset. Shoot pictures by all means but give that picture meaning and whether it was shot with a box brownie camera or a leica shouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference because the intention is in the image. And yes I like so many have been used canon, Nikon Sony, Fuji. And I like Sony a7riii and a7cii now as my main set up and I haven’t been disappointed because 42 and 33mp are more than enough for any image wether on social media or for printing to amazing large sizes if required. SO LETS JUST CRACK ON AND ENJOY PHOTOGRAPHY WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT GEAR.
No doubt no doubt. For me it was a matter of size and power and I found what I was looking for with Sony. But you're correct: better gear won't make you a better photographer.
How bad is EVF compared to the X-T5?
The X-T5 EVF is better but not by a mile or anything.
@@danvirchow Thanks! Can't decide between fuji xt5 and A7cII. Need a camera for traveling (photo only). Have an a7III with two heavy zoom lenses + Fuji x100v right now. Sony is just too heavy and so unpleasant to use and Fuji...not much lighter than Sony, especially in pair with 16-80 f4.
Maybe I should just stick with what I have for now...
@@aleksandrmikhailov3255 I would personally recommend the A7C II for a travel camera. It’s smaller than the X-T5, and in my opinion, a more capable overall camera being full frame. Also, that autofocus is UNREAL. Hard to consider anything else once you’ve used it. Maybe go to your local camera store and play around with an A7C II or rent one!

dials are way better since you can readjust on the fly instead of remembering that yiu had that one specific custom mode on a specific dial that you were setting up for 10000 years and in the quick menu you have different custom modes anyway :)

The “”“color science””” of Fuji is great that’s why i can not leave Fuji, magic just happens. autofocus well 70 percent 90 percent accuracy is not enough for you it’s not the tech to blame. Unless you’re shooting small birds/wild life i don’t see any point to moan about autofocus on Fuji. Have you check Leica or Hasselblad autofocus system and accuracy? Full frame vs apsc yes the depth is a fact but soon with a .90 aperture it will be sorted.🏄♂️🏄♂️😇😇
Certainly nothing wrong with Fuji AF, but the Sony system is just better. I prefer to have all of my shots in focus when it comes to editing so I have maximum options. Fuji colors are great though!

"Funktionality" does not get together with a Sony A6x or A7c!
I owned a A6000 for years, than PEN F, than a GH6 (because of video). And I thouht: Holy Moly a cam can be sooo easy to handle.
I sold (not yet) the GH6 for a X-H2s, because it is a better Hybrid.
In terms of funktionality the X-H2s is not to be beaten: 7 (seven) custom modes plus video and PASM. (Mine: C1=6.2k open gate, C2=4K, C3=4k120, C4=FHD240, C5=BKT, C6= Panorama, C7=preshot up to 40FPS), plus sholder display which shows me the details that are dialed in, also in the dark, or off!
Just a click and you are good to go. Joystick and several custom buttons.

When I WAS a Sony A6 User I wished a FF in a compact and stylish form would come out. Exactly what a A7CII is. Pretty much. But I am 8 years more experienced now. Imho an A7C is a perfect cam for beginners.
