When King Harold suddenly croaks, Shrek (Mike Myers) learns he will have to rule the land of Far, Far Away, unless he can find a suitable heir to the throne. The most promising candidate is Princess Fiona's (Cameron Diaz) cousin Artie (Justin Timberlake), a teenage slacker in a medieval high school. Shrek and his trusted companions, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), set out to bring Artie back but find their mission is a bigger challenge than they expected.

Definitely didn't hit the same but it wasn't terrible, Shrek 4 definitely improves and can't wait for y'all to watch it.

This one is the "worst" of them. I really can't wait for your reactions to the storyline in Shrek Ever After, it's my favorite storyline.
Here's a fun fact, in each Shrek film, the main antagonist of the movie wears a red outfit at some point. Lord Farquaad's main outfit is red, Fairy Godmother wears a red dress during "Holding Out for a Hero" and the final battle, Prince Charming's outfit is red during the play at the end, and Rumpelstiltskin has a large red wig for when his angry but also his main timeline outfit consists of a long-sleeved red shirt.
On a color wheel, red is opposite to green, indicating an opposition to Shrek who, as an ogre, has green skin.
Red is also the alchemical property of the philosopher stone, elixir of life, all that good esoteric jazz

Apparently, Donkey only knew the concept of sex but not that how it was connected in child conception. Probably, his parents kept saying "We'll tell you when you get older" but they never did.
The biggest question, though, is, did Dragon give birth to the Dronkies like mammals do or did they came from eggs like Pokémon.
If shrek 3 hadnt flopped, shrek 4 might have been just as appreciated as the first two imo.

@@gtmo55mack20coming off of the second movie, people probably had very high expectations of the movie and since it isnt as good as shrek 2 people really didnt like it, that and shrek was everywhere so also it could be shrek fatigue, that be my guess.
exactly.shrek 4 is a brilliant movie but it had to bear the brunt of shrek 3's flop.
I swear the 4th one is underrated
I love Shrek's character progression in this movie. From being fearful of becoming a parent to fully embracing it and welcoming the ogre triplets.
Part 4 is the cherry on the top of Shrek's character progression.

@@traydevonReally? I felt like he went several steps backwards in 4 just to relearn a lesson he should’ve already learned…But that’s just my opinion. I haven’t seen it in a while, too, so maybe I don’t remember it well.

This movie is very good to me for one reason: the way charming drops the facade for a minute and talks about things he has lost and had everything taken away from him. Its such a good wrap up of his character because if you look at charming, he is a man child who has never had to be on his own. After doing everything his mom told him to do, and doing it at least decently well, his mother disappeared forever, leaving him with no loved ones, no money, and no home. He had to go from no worries in the world to worrying about where he will live or how he will live. Its a lot to drop on somebody who isnt ready and its even worse when suddenly everyone hates you for what your mom made you do. So to see and hear him talk about what he has lost, it always gives me chills
It's also a nice look into the 'villain origin story' in general. What makes a 'villain', and how do our societal expectations and treatments of certain people play into creating 'villains'.
Shrek 4 is my second favorite movie out of the Shrek franchise! The third one is also great but just as you guys said, the 2nd one set such a high bar that its almost impossible to get there again

Bro, this reaction to the third film was what i was most looking forward to. It may not be the best of all, but it's still very fun and full of cool scenes. The direction, animation technique is very cool and the soundtrack is still very good. Too cool!
This movie clearly isn’t as funny as the first two, but I never thought it was trying to be. I always thought it was trying to be more heartfelt than funny, and at that I think it’s perfectly passable.
The good news is that the forth one should be better, though the puss in boots 2 is the one to look forward to 😊
i would really like to know what you liked about the puss in boots 2 movie. My overall experience with that movie was disappointment, probably because of the hype but I found it boring and predictable. 😅😅 probably mostly because of the hype around it

I’ve yet to see any Puss in Boots movies bc Shrek 3 and 4 were so disappointing to me lol. It’ll be interesting to watch with these guys.
@@1a141036 it was a great movie with pretty good character growth by Puss, but ( at least for me ) the outstanding thing was the animation quality, style and the overall camera work, especially on the action sequences.

I've never noticed this until just now but in the beginning where the pretend tower in Charming's play is just a foreshadow for later in the film... WOW!

I haven't seen it in so long and only saw it once or twice. I don't remember the plot. I remember one line from the movie from the beginning. I remember not liking it as much as 1 and 2 personally.

I wouldn't say everyone hate it, the problem is: Compared to 1, 2 and 4 it's the weakest one I think.
I still enjoy it, don't get me wrong but the others are (way) better, with 2 being the best.
Now that I am a parent, I like this one more than I did before. I have always enjoyed that this one spends more time on the female perspective than any of the others.
I don't hate it. It just isn't anywhere near as good as 1 or 2.
Not many people outright hate it. But it’s sorta the most forgettable and kind of feels like it strays the most from the original Shrek. If they really are making a 5th one, I’m scared for it. I don’t know what there could possibly be left to do with these characters.

Okay... In order i would put them Shrek 2 - Puss in Boots 2 - Shrek 1 - both the first Puss and Shrek 4 are about the same...then at the end this one
My rankings are: (1) Shrek 2; (2) Shrek; (3) Shrek Forever After; (4) Puss in Boots: The Last Wish; (5) Puss in Boots; (6) Chemotherapy; (7) Explosive Diarrhea; (8) Shrek the Third.
Love the little Shrek ears Oak and Answer put on the scores. A lot of hate around the 3rd movie but I personally love it. The ending scene with the villains is a bit meh but love both Shrek’s vulnerable and Fiona’s badass moments. Puss and Donkey switching bodies is so fun to watch and the princesses are definitely the highlight for me. Can’t wait to see the reactions to the 4th which is my fav and the puss in boots movies and for tomorrow Percy Jackson video as well.

I can get the Shrek 3 hate (I still love it) but what issues do people have with Shrek 4? It's at least as good as Shrek 1 and by far the deepest movie in the franchise

I feel like if this had been the second movie it would have been a great sequel.
Following the actual sequel with something even better would gave been a near impossible task, but I say they at least caught the ball.

Yeah, this movie's plot is a bit weaker than the first two so I can understand why it felt a little flat, but you guys seemed pretty entertained by all the jokes so I'd still call that a win. I've always thought that the princesses' jail escape and Snow White's woodland creature scene was one of the most fun moments in the series though. It kinda gives off the same vibes as when Fiona beat up Robin Hood and his Merry Men in the first one. The 4th movie is definitely more solid than this one, but Shrek 2 will always be the best one.

2 was so refined and excellently executed that 3 and 4 are looked at as failures, but they are still very good movies, just clearly not as refined. The studio seemed to direct their attention to the Puss in Boots spinoffs instead. That's where my attention went as well.

i wonder how many people realize that Julie Andrews (Marry Poppins) voices Fiona's mom, and after she headbutts the second stone wall for their escape, she vocalizes (not sure on correct wording) the verse part of spoonful of sugar song from Marry Poppins.
Arthur's storyline here is kinda funny, he's a loser, he becomes King and then the girl he liked Guinevere who didnt like him is the woman he marries in the original king arthur stories and Lancelot the guy who was bullying him ends up working for him.
But if they follow the myths this is based on… Guinevere cheats on him with Lancelot 😅

The Eagles couldn't take Sam & Frodo to Mount Doom because they couldn't cross the threshold of Mordor while Sauron was still alive, the evil was too powerful. They could fight outside the gates like they did at the end of Return Of The King, but they weren't able to approach Mt Doom until after the Ring was destroyed.

I love all the movies! Shrek 1 for the journey of Shrek and Fiona falling in love. Shrek 2 for Shrek's self-acceptance that he is enough. Shrek 3 for Artie and the babies. Shrek 4 because it made me cry, esp for a closing chapter of series' quadrilogy.

Dreamworks has a problem when it comes to trilogies. Movie one is fantastic. Great world building, great story and characters. Movie two is commonly seen as better than the first, and then movie three...well...it just doesn't hold up. They may not be bad movies, but they’re nearly not as good as 1 or 2. Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and even How to Train Your Dragon are all examples of this.

This was so interesting! I remembered bot being the biggest fan of this movie and the 4th when they first came out. After watching this reaction, Im surprised how much I liked it. Maybe it's just because I'm much older now, and some of the themes were lost on me when I was younger. I loved the video, and I'm excited to see if my opinion will change for the 4th movie after all these years!

I get that this one isn’t as good as the other two and could ce done more especially with the villains but i love how shrek is a continuous story and does go over so many good lessons and phases of life. I love that the tower prop falling foreshadowed Charming's demise
1 and 2 are superb, 4 is great, 3 is okay. I can see what they were going for with 3, but it just didn't land the same way 1 and 2 did.

4 is more serious in themes, less ribbing the popular fairytale and fantasy tropes and referencing other popular media, but still funny. And I think a more serious note isn't necessarily a bad thing either, it works well for a last movie in a series like this. Excited to see you react to it!

I like the first Shrek the best personally, I think 2 onwards too many characters are added. I think the heart and soul was just Shrek and Donkey together.

YES! As I was opening TH-cam the first thing I thought was I hope you guys dropped this reaction today! I know it's one of the least popular movies in the franchise, but this is actually one of my favorites! There's so many iconic scenes and jokes that live in my head rent-free, I ALWAYS reference the 'DA-DA' in the dream scene 😂
I love Shrek's character arc of accepting being a father in this movie, it really rounds out his character progression throughout the trilogy!

Shrek 5 has been rumored for years but only just recently earlier this year did we actually get confirmation that a 5th Shrek movie is in fact in the works but no other information has been confirmed so far. There was a supposed leak that had releases for a few upcoming movies that said they're trying for 2025 but that's just a rumor, the company hasn't said an official date yet.
This movie was clearly originally intended as a STRAIGHT TO DVD outing, and then some executive said, "WTF are you doing, Shrek is our money-maker," and they tried to make it theatrical. The animation alone feels like something you would find in a spin-off Netflix series, which gives it away.
One of the good thing that came out of this movie was "Shrek rizz face" meme 😅
