Mystic Quest's battle theme is so good
Final Fantasy meets Mega Man X
For all the crap that game gets, I honestly really enjoyed it. I have distinct memories of playing it as a kid.

Say what you will about FFMQ otherwise (personally, I enjoyed it at the time and still do), the music is undeniably *fantastic.* I don't think there's a bad song on the soundtrack, but the battle themes are particularly good.
@@tips5702 Exactly. When the game came out I was a child, no idea what an RPG was. People say it's simple, it's easy bla bla but it gets the uninitiated totally hooked
Almost as much as BOF II...sounds like X3 track. Makes sense considering Capcom and all.
Snes Themes are so timeless
Mystic Quest had some stupefyingly good music. I'm glad it got some love here.

The Soundtrack to Lufia II is a timeless legend!
And its battle tune has to be one of the best in JRPG history, only behind FFVII and FFX IMHO.

Lol I feel so slow, but I only just now realizes that the box art has Marle using a fire spell rather than Ice. Wonder how this error slipped past the quality control people.
I think Akira Toriyama made the art earlier in development when Nadia was supposed to use fire and they just kept it because he's a legend and you don't wanna pay him again or something like that XD
And she's wearing a red robe in the box art, as well. Most likely an earlier version of her, like third point said.
@@reallyannoyingguy6625 it isn't, actually. It's simply a stylistic choice to make her attire appropriate for the cold. Early screenshots still show Marle in her finished design. You'll notice Chrono and Frog also have altered outfits in the art.

I'm would be interested to learn how many (if any) people actually dislike Final Fantasy 4's theme. It seems to be so universally loved.
Great video. VGM artists deserve so much praise for such technical accomplishments. Not to mention the core melodies which shine through in any arrangement and will live on through the ages.

Wow at the Romancing SaGa 3 track. I've heard the metal arrangement on the album "Romancing SaGa Battle Arrange" but never the original.

Of course you started with Mystic Quest :) It's literally the first battle theme that comes in my head when I think of RPG battle music. I wonder if, in trying to make the simple, bog standard RPG for western audiences, they unintentionally came up with the ultimate version of any RPG battle music.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm not going to admit which RPG I'm playing right now. But I've turned down its volume and am just listening to this now.
I would like to add as an honorible mention Mystic arks regular battle and the theme fom "Hey Lets fight" which is one of their boss battles
Dang, that Dragon Quest V has some great-sounding instruments! That track sounds almost like it came from the PS1 or something.
Is there a boss theme version from the SNES era? Having trouble finding a compilation for that. Although this is great!

Is romancing saga 3 good? The music is incredible. I'm also so sad how much CT's battle theme sucks xD the rest of the soundtrack makes up for it though.

it is astounding how bad sugiyama is onthe DQ games compared to literally everything else. listen to DQ5 or 6 and then Lufia or Ito on Romancing Saga - hasai on mystic quest blows him away and he was one and done on that OST.
There are several battle themes in Earthbound, I personally prefer Pokey means bussiness
All of them are great, but my favorite is Battle Against a Machine.
The Dragon Quest songs are the obvious odd ones out. So bad, especially V's.
