Fun fact: The crash dummies weren't just a series of PSAs. The success of those ads eventually led to a licensed toy line, which I believe is where "Junk Man" and that professor character originated. The toys were then successful enough to get a TV special based on them, but I think the games are specifically an adaptation of the toy line, not the animated special.
    Weird franchise, huh?

I came in here to reference the toy line. It was a lot of fun. I didnt have any of the cars, but the few figures I had were loaded with a lot of fun gimmicks

    • @Murnjendoof_too
      @Murnjendoof_too 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@@hatendiscontent Yeah, I've seen some ads for the toys and they definitely look like the sort of stuff I'd have absolutely loved as a kid. Detachable limbs, bug-out eyes, etc. Unfortunately I've also heard that they were made from cheap plastic that broke easily, so maybe it's for the best that they stopped being sold before I was born.

I know I watched it as a kid, although in my mind I was thinking that it was a regular animated TV show, not a 3D CGI TV movie. I guess that's why they didn't bother to turn it into a full-blown series, since SGI workstations were very expensive back then and 3D animation took a lot of time to create. They probably would have been better off turning it into a traditional animated cartoon, although I do love that style of early 3D animation. It's available on TH-cam for anyone that wants to watch it.
I definitely remember seeing lots of ads for the toys.

THIS game is one of my rental nightmares. I had the toys, loved how they exploded apart, and thought the game was gonna be a lot of fun. Holy crap was I wrong obviously. I don't even remember beating the first stage as a kid. Years later I saw a cart at a convention and knew I had to prove myself as an adult. What I proved is I am still not good enough to beat stage 1.... But now I have the cartridge to haunt my shelf. Love the channel so much, thank you for all the reviews!

That's the one thing I do miss and don't miss about the 90s. If you got a game, such as this one, your weekend was shot, lol. But, there was a lot of excitement with picking out a game you never played before and discovering it was a gem. I like being able to just play any game I want to at any time these days. But still, I miss those days of childhood.

It’s pretty disheartening to be disilliusoned, especially as a kid. Heckins, as a “grown-up” it can be brutal. To have my/our hopes raised and happiness promised… and then betrayed and disappointed. For games, the NES Double Dragon and TMNT: The Arcade Game ports were like that for me. I expected the awesome arcade versions and got the okay, but way less impressive NES adaptations. It hurt, subtly but a lot, too. 😢I’m good and pretty healed now, 😁👍… but yeah, some tough realities about the world for us kids, and grown-up kids, included.

This video is a nostalgia trip from the beloved early 90s. I only playef this once. My brother was suppose to be babysitting me as my single mum was supposedly going on a hot date, but he dumps me at his non-girlfriends place (had potential for a relationship but never happened between them). We rent movies, she got Boxing Helena (with the late great Julian Sands (RIP)) I hired the gate 2. After watching my movie the girls thought Boxing Helena was too racey for a boy my age so she lets me play in her sons/younger brother/some random young teen living with her whose relation I never really thought about till writing this comment's room. He had the Crash rest dummies toys and SNES game. So after ramming the shit out of the cars I gave the game a go. I remember it being OK but then again, all games I have no tolerance for today was OK back then. I remember liking the novelty of losing limbs as a sign of damage. And that was my only experience with this game. The memory ends with me half asleep watching hot athletes on the Doug Mulray show (this was Australia BTW) when my brother returned to pick me up.
I am also drunk right now so thanks SNESdrunk for jogging my intoxicated memory of a better time in my life. I owe you a debt of gratitude my friend. I also love your videos since I was a SNES kid and your content is so near and dear to my heart. I've also gotten my like minded friends to subscribe also since you cover a lot of games we never got but only knew about in magazines. Cheers mate.

You need to slide and prefire a lot, which lets you dodge most obstacles and destroy others. I don't ever remember having difficulty sliding either, it's just a forward to down-forward motion IIRC.

Personal story. When I was around 10 years old I had a neighbor who always bothered my parents to come and play at my house. The kid eventually got what he wanted. His grandma talked with my Parents and convinced them.
I didn't like the neighbors at all especially that boy.
Anyways...the kid came early like around 9am. My mom fed him and we started playing SNES. Different games, he wanted to test all of them. Eventually he saw my Donkey Kong Country 2 and he went wild. He said he has the first one and never played the second one. It was already around 7pm. His parents was gonna pick him up around 8pm.
So we played and guy was stunned on how amazing the game was right? So he asked me...can I borrow your DKC2?
    And I was like uh...idk...
He begged me and talk with my parents he said he was gonna trade with me with an awesome game almost as good as DKC2.
I still had my doubts so he ran to his grandma (our neighbor), and came back with guess what game....
So I forcefully traded my Donkey Kong Country 2 with this garbage and he ran off when he heard his parents calling him.
I didn't play this game till the next day. And boy oh boy...what a surprise it was. Garbage at it's worse. I got pissed and the kid was nowhere to be found. Not even the grandmother could contact him(allegedly)
Eventually he popped out of hell again and I talked with gave him his stupid game back and told him I want my DKC2. And he always forgot the game when he was visiting his grandma.
My dad called the grandmother and basically told her listen either you give my son his game back or I will call the cops for theft. Let's keep this relationship neutral.
After that the kid finally gave me my game back.
All because they(my parents) wanted me to be nice to people who I didn't like.

I’m glad you eventually got your game back but man, force and control is never a good way to do relationships. I’ve learned the hard way/s on both sides of it: Respect human free-will, even to do objective wrong/bad. Be genuinely, caringly persuasive *not* selfishly seductive; If ever necessary, warn firmly but kindly, *do not!* force or threaten through fear-manipulation/entry-level terrorist tactics. Leave the choice to them and ride out the results.

One guy could snort milk up his nose and squirt it out of his eye, so he broke the record for squirting milk out of his eye the furthest distance.

I was a huge crash dummies fan. Had a ton of the toys, some bedsheets, some colorforms, and went as one for halloween twice. after only having the truly abysmal NES game for years, this one was actually a decent play. It is a bit of a pick up and die game, but I wouldn't say the controls are bad once you get used to em and while there are some parts than can be frustrating, it's definitely closer to the top of the licensed platformer 16 bit heap than the bottom. In fact, I'd go as far as to say this is by far the best LJN game. The limb loss gimmick is actually kinda neat because it affects how your character moves and their hitbox and screwdrivers (health) are plentiful enough that rather than worrying about your limbs, it's more like you have to strategize when you can afford to get hit.

If someone had asked ME "what kinda game should we make out of Crash Test Dummies?" my initial instinct would have been to make it an obstacle course designing game where you send a car with a dummy inside through an insane gauntlet of ramps, loops and hazards, and get scored at the end of each one for spectacle and survivability.

Super Mario deserves some blame for making "you bounce on their heads" the default way of dealing with enemies in an awful lot of platformers. But Mario had the sense not to make a significant number of enemies who tumble all over the screen in an unpredictable fashion, without taking the size and speed of sprites and the amount of screen "real estate" they take up into account.

Funny story about Lorenzo...that everyone knows, is that he voice Venkmen in the real Ghostbusters cartoon as was fired cause Bill Murray said he sounded too much like Garfield. Then the universe imploded on itself...also this is no way related to cid the dummy. He's a crash IMPACT dummy...that dies to fall damage....

I loved the crash dummies as a kid. I had a plush toy with velcro limbs and head that I could wholly dismember with a single well-placed punch and the VHS of an animated pilot that didnt seem to get picked up for syndication. I was so excited to find this game at my local 4-Star Video Rental and subsequently dissappointed to the point I felt like my own limbs were going to fall off.

I had one of the action figures. As one of those kinda dark kids, (or standard Mortal Kombat fan) I loved being able to "dismember" my action figures. "The Terminator launches a missile from his... missile arm... and blows up the enemy robot with a direct hit in the torso." The old Beetlejuice figures I got on sale all had detachable heads, too. Great for "death matches."
