    Just looking for a piece of wire/paper clip. Homeless as fuck, so I just got the timing light, after running it rich 4 days. My first Honda, and I gotta say, scored this car. 20000 miles on a $250 investment, I'm still under $1000 into this baby and she's impressed me thus far.

      Just keep hunting for it. The main relay switch for example in my CR-V was under my glovebox, where as in Civics it's next to the fuse box on driver's side. It's there, but you'll have to find it. My first Honda, and everything is in the same spot for everything except inside the car. I have no idea why they did it this way.

    Can a bad timing ignition cause the transmission to not shift into 4th or 3rd gear? I have to set it to 1 or 2 so it can run normal and then shift it to 3rd since it won't shift to 4th so basically is only shifting into 1 gear. swapped multiple tcu, solenoids, and transmission has been replaced. So im out of ideas?

    Hey Winston Buzon, great video, im a little confused umm i was wondering if your car is not turning on but is cranking could that be because you switch a icm or coil in there those would need timing?

    • @winstonbuzon
      @winstonbuzon  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teggykid97 ! All you spark plugs in good condition or new? If you crank but not fire, it's a spark or a fuel issue. If you smell fuel after cranking, then it's not a fuel issue. I'm not a mechanic so...

    My daughter's 2000 Honda Civic EX (D16Y8 engine), no mention of ignition timing number on the label sticker on car hood. I purchased it brand new & now gave her the car.
    Here are my questions, coming from a woman that know very little about cars. Now, I like replying and asking in simple questions:
    1. I have a Timing Light Gun that I can turn the number (has dial number), what number
    do I turn or set it at?
    2. I can see a total of 4 Lines on the Crankshaft Pulley:
    * * (RED) * * (White)
    3. With the Green Plug shorted with a wire & letting the car ran to normal temperature.
    4. Three 12mm Bolts on Distributor are loose.
    5. Black Lead to Negative of Battery, Red Lead to Positive of Battery, Red Probe Lead
    opened/closed on Spark Plug #1 (right side) & Trigger on Timing Light pressed.
    6. Do I turn the Timing Light Gun to 0 or 12 (I see no listing on 2000 Honda Civic EX
    with engine # D16Y8)?
    FYI (For your information):
    If I set the Dial on Zero (0), then the Red Line (Center of the three) in on Target with Site for the plastic cover of the Timing Belt.
    If I turn the Dial to Twelve (12), then the White Line (Line by itself on extreme right) is Center with those two Target sites.
    So I am confused with the bad instruction found /or they are not clear from the internet posting.
    Do I turn the Dial to 0 (Zero) and adjust for Red or White?
    or
    Do I turn the Dial to 12 (Twelve, not showing on her 2000's Civic) and adjust for Red?
    Winter gets very cold here and she has lost her jobs.
    Any advise or suggestion would be appreciated coming from Russia.

    • @winstonbuzon
      @winstonbuzon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The timing gun I used for this video is a no-dial version.
      1. Red on Positive terminal and Black on Negative terminal of battery, and the inductive probe for the spark plug wire goes to number 1 wire (the one closest to the cam gear).
      2. Dial in at Zero (0) and set for White
      Without the instructions on the hood or the manual, this will prove to be difficult.
      This video will explain better on how to use the adjustable knob on your timing gun...
      How to set your timing

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you are saying to set my Timing Light Gun at 0.
      Adjust the Distributor, with three 12mm Bolts loose, to White marking on the Crankshaft Pulley.
      Then what does the Red mark line means and well as the marking on the left and right marking are used for?

    • @winstonbuzon
      @winstonbuzon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I never had to use that red light (if it had one on my timing gun). Even my mechanic friend tells me he never had to use it either...

    • @angelisone
      @angelisone 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Winston Buzon No, the RED marking line is on the Crankshaft Pulley.
      I see four total marking lines on 2000 Honda Civic.
      One is White on the right by itself.
      Then Red in the center while two lines are on the side of Red.
      I am sorry that I wasn't clear.

    • @winstonbuzon
      @winstonbuzon  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case, try to keep the arrow between the two red lines but as close to the single white line as possible.

  • @JasonLee-lv7tm
    @JasonLee-lv7tm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adjusting the distributor will not effect air fuel ratio/rich lean conditions.
    It will however advance or retard the spark time resulting in what may feel similar to those conditions. Aside from that, info is solid

    I would like to ask you a question. I have a 1992 Honda Prelude F22a. With the jumper wire in the service check connector. With a timing advance light, I can't get to 15 degrees, may be I get 5degrees at most , even with the distributor fully counter-clock wise. What could be the problem?. The car runs fine. but I think it is lacks of power in 2nd gear.

    Is that a euro-r manifold? My timming was off so I had to adjust it,I jummped the blue connector start the car let it warm up to normal temp.I set it to 15 °+2° what the smog tech told me.I drove the car around for a while,and when I went back to check my trimming I notice it was off again.but when I jump the connector it sets itself back to what I set it to.is that normal?

    • @winstonbuzon

      Yes, it is the Euro-R manifold. For me, it was the wires to the MAP sensor that was giving me trouble and didn't even know it. Normal? I wouldn't think so once the timing is set. So double check the wiring. Are you using the 91 Accord harness?

    I got a del sol with original b16a2 and I never realized until recently that my dizzy is from a different model Honda. It’s a hitachi vs what I believe it came with USDM oem -TEC part #30100-P2T-004. I also noticed that the dizzy is pretty much fully retarded. However, the car seems to run and idle fine. Starts right up and never gives me any problems. Acceleration is decent and low to mid range power is decent as well for the little b16. I also hear the VTEC crossover @ 5600 but I feel like the vtec is lacking. My questions are; 1- i understand different model dizzy’s can technically work, but is it possible that it can affect things like vtec performance if it comes from a non vtec model? 2 - is it likely that because my dizzy is fully retarded the engine runs ok but maybe lacks performance in vtec due to little advanced timing? 3 - considering the retrofitted dizzy only has one bolt holding it on and oem replacements are pretty much nonexistent or crazy expensive, is there any aftermarket dizzys that are worth the $? New or reman? From what I’ve read the answer is no but wondering If any new options may have popped up. If I absolutely have to I’ll suck it up and buy a new one if I can find one or keep searching until I find a used a oem.

      I always make it a habit that if theres a proper replacement for a particular part, replace it with that part. I know that sometimes being that our cars are older & parts for them are scarce, but if you want your ride to perform the way they should, keep them original and try not to put parts into cars that weren't made for them

      Winston Buzon yeah I’m gonna keep looking for an oem dizzy but it’s not looking too good. What is your opinion on remanufactured distributors eg Rich Porter brand?

    Stupid question. So by loosening those bolts, that sets the timing? Then you just leave them in that position? Sorry hobbyiest with limited knowledge.

    • @winstonbuzon
      @winstonbuzon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By loosening the bolts, you could turn the distributor little by little to adjust timing. Then, when the timing is set, tighten the bolts so that you don't lose its place
