- In this video I show how to mechanically time any D series engine (as well as show the different timing marks) and time the ignition with a timing light!
I had to time my winter beater so I figured I’d make a video about it as it’s hard to search for information on timing a B7 unless you have the Helms book.

Thank you. I'm planning on buying a cheap old timing light to use on my cars and every video I've seen uses a fancy adjustable light procedure. I just needed a video showing a normal procedure with a cheap timing light and this video was exactly that.
Good video. It’s a lot easier with the tire off and extensions for the crankshaft pulley.

Don't forget to ensure the vehicle is warm by holding 3k rpm until fans come on. Then check timing
why does engine have to be hot for timing check?

@@isaiahramirez1864 need to make sure the Car ECU is not using the cold engine map and it’s running at normal temp

My timing cover doesn’t have the little hole to loosen the tensioner is there another way?

I changed my belt and my timing marks line up at tdc but i didnt adjust the ignition timing afterward since it was never mentioned in anything i read or any videos i watched, would that cause a misfire once it starts to warm up?
It sounds more like an ignition coil to me, I've had plenty of those go bad. Does it hesitate occasionally when load is put on the engine?
@@yebo3061 i actually have new ignition coil in there. I didnt have any issues until i changed the belt. It ran fine for a few minutes until it started to warm up and the rpms started jumping.
@@skoomacat13 if you don't have an ignition light you can just loosen the bolts and turn the distributor. I believe I had the same issue with this del sol, and advanced timing helped. (higher rpm)
what will happen if you turn the CAM SHAFT GEAR counterclockwise instead of the CRANK SHAFT?

With the crank lined up it should b at top dead center

Turns over, but doesn't start? Yes its possible, especially if it's been messed with, but it would still usually spit and sputter or try to start even with the wrong timing. If it isn't attempting to start at all go back to the basics first, make sure its getting spark, and fuel.
Try swapping around iat & iacv plugs?? You might have them crossed..
How can you have 2 marks one for distributor and one for top dead center f23a1 engine Honda accord lx

BRO i cant find these crank marks on my D15B2 in my 1991 Base model CRX plz help! are they under the belts? they dont appear to be in this video :(
They are just on the side try to clean the pulley

From google I found all Honda engines are interference except the 3.0L and 3.2L

Does this work on a y8 non vtec with no marks? I'm doing a head gasket replacement and wanna make sure when everything goes back together there isn't any issues. Also how can you do the ignition bit without that tool?
You rotated the engine counter clockwise twice?
christian dayrit as long as the timing marks are correct you will be fine. You’ll want to make sure the single line crank pulley) is at the timing mark. Yes you want to turn counter clockwise. You can message me if you have any more questions
