Nice shout out to Retrobat. For my gaming rig, it’s the ultimate solution when you can’t quite get everything you want out of Batocera and still need Windows. It’s a godsend for a single, feature-rich, little to no compromise way to combine retro and PC gaming into one OS. Still takes a little tinkering at times, but it’s about as streamlined as you can get for retro gaming on Windows. Perhaps it’s worth taking a moment at some point to feature it exclusively in a tutorial video?
It's definitely on my list, but I need to do more digging on the platform. For example, the bundled high-end emulators seem to be locked at older versions, which is a shame for PCSX2 and a few others who have made some huge strides lately. I need to figure out how to configure my own emulators to work with Retrobat so I can have the best of both worlds!
@@RetroGameCorps roger that, Russ. I’ve simply gone in and used update functionality within each emulator (where it exists) and downloaded my own programs, swapping them into the respective folders that Retrobat uses without too much issue. At that point, though, you could argue that Batocera wins hands-down for ease of use. (And I LOVE Batocera, just to be clear … but I also like playing my full library on desktop without too many compromises.) But if you keep everything in the folders Retrobat prefers, it’s typically pretty smooth sailing. You just have to watch out for bigger scale changes, like 4.0.2 -> 5.0 moving save files, for example. I had to move all my saves over to the new folders (which are ultimately better, but a pain that the Retrobat installer didn’t just move them for me).
I like what they are going for with this. I dont mind a handheld being big. I like the detachable controllers. Wish they worked while detached without any extra accessory. I like the bigger battery.
This honestly available with the magnetic keyboard may be my next work device too, Better specs than my current laptop, my curiosity is if that usb port will support display out if necessary at times, a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to go with that would be like the ultimate experience on top of being able to play games, plus its pocketable in my opinion if necessary as well. I think this is easily going to be my next favorite portable windows device, We will have to see.
Too bad this brand support for older devices are none, I got an old Mini, no software upgrade and some shortcuts buttons could be usefull, it seems those companies are more interested on their next release and forget about the past ones. Thats my only complain about Onex.
Damn, those mofos demand such outrageous prices for their devices and then they don't even bother to support those for more than two years?! So what do you do if you experience any issues with the software? Tough luck, huh? In the worst case you end up with a $1,000+ brick. What a joke... No, thanks, guess I'll rather stick with my Steam Deck then. Thanks for the heads up.

To put it nicely yes, this is how most Chinese companies keep up with the demand for gaming handhelds otherwise they can’t compete. They release something cool with the latest parts and chips sets and slowly fade out their old stock. They’re not trying to make a multiple generation spanning device like valve or ASUS or legion. This device is just showcasing the 6800u (7840u if the pro) and that’s about it. Honestly you won’t need to upgrade to anything more since the graphics and cpu are the sweet spot for gaming handhelds next to the z1 extreme. At prices like this I'm struggling to see why you wouldn't just spend 1200 on a very good laptop, when this machine is that big and that expensive. A laptop would give you a bigger and nicer screen, more storage and many more uses, paired with an Xbox one controller.
Yeah, eh, handhelds have been around for a while too… I mean, I think €1200 is ridiculous, but I do get the appeal of these kind of devices. Problem is, of course, that there are devices available with a way better price to performance ratio.
I have two laptops that I rarely use. I just go to my desktops when at home and find myself using the steam deck all the time for mobile. I much prefer this form factor to laptops.
Because it lacks the form factor. Same reason people rather a dedicated handheld rather than a powerful slab of metal that makes calls with a controller attached to it
If you are going to make the 2 side pieces with the controls removable, they should then magnet together to make a stand alone self contained controller. Missed opportunity as it would be epic, and go a long way towards me purchasing one of these.
I have the OXP 1195g7 version, and I absolutely love it. In some ways, I preferred my Aya Neo 4500U, but the screen on the OXP is something that cannot be fully appreciated unless you see it in person. I don't trust the company as far as I can throw them, but if you can score any of the OG 8.4" OXPs or this one with some kind of actual warranty...it is a thing of beauty.
Can't agree more have a 1195 and 5700u 8.4 and 6800u from them the screen is something special especially playing side scrollers like Ori looks bananas on the 2k screen and they have enough juice to run it full speed at 2k
The only thing annoying about the rising interest in handheld pcs is all the console players that picked up a steam deck and now think they know all there is to pcs and how everything is too expensive
Really good review thank you. One thing I would love to know is what the battery life is like for non-gaming tasks e.g. Watching Netflix, word processing etc. I'm interested in the device as both a gaming machine and a laptop and tablet replacement.
It is powerful, but its Joys do not have an accelerometer or gyroscope, they are not independent, that is, they do not connect separately without an attached base, be it the device itself, or a connector purchased separately. The prices of Joys are too high and even abusive if we compare the absence of sensors. This should be reviewed. The good thing is that we can connect Joycons from the Switch to it, or Dual Sense from the Ps5 or Joy from the Xbox, however, I noticed a limitation of up to 4 pairings via Bluethooth. Wonderful device! If its joys are revised and sensors are added, it will be perfect.
The fact you can use an egpu and game at 1440p over thunderbolt is NICE! I'm seriously considering this due to it running windows. Im not a fan of laptops
Cheers. I've been thinking about this for a while, but will probably pass as the early bird pricing has lapsed. I have the Onexplayer 8.4" Ryzen 5800U and it's my favorite Handheld, So I ordered this one, soon as it became available. The I/O looks great again x2 Type-C x1 USB 3.0 and a MICRO SD! sticking a small 4TB ssd on the back is easy because of the size. 2 TB internal SSD, 1TB micro SD, 4TB SSD stuck to the back, makes it a 7TB beast. @@RetroGameCorps LOL, Steam collection is 17TB almost at 1000 games, so 7TB isn't that much, Been with steam from the start, First PC gaming machine was a 286/16htz, 4mb ram, 40mb hard drive, 1.44 floppy 1988. I'm 54 y/old, still a mean gamer 🤠
I would love this handheld if it worked like the Switch. One of the best things about the Switch are those detachable controllers. Two people can play at the same time. Doesn't seem like there is a use case for the detachable controllers for two players since they don't have a battery and turn off once you detach it. On top of that, you have to spend extra to get the controller attachment. Maybe the next gen of this device will have something like that, because it would be great playing two player games on the go.
Exactly what I love about the steam controller... I assume this has a touch screen but windows+touchscreen is no bueno in most situations. It works well but its kinda meh compared to say android or iOS.
The 1 thing I hate about these compared to the steamdeck is the lack of full size analog sticks. The full size ones on the steamdeck just feel soo good compared to the switch style ones
@LordMaxed yeah I used thumbcaps on the switch until I switched to the hori split pad. And while I agree it was alot better. I still found I lacked the fine touches I have with a full size stick
Hey Russ could you start making a handheld PC spreadsheet like you did with your Mini PCs I feel like that would be a great way to distinguish between the increasing amount of these that are releasing
Does the shader cache thing happen on any device running Holo os or just is that feature for steam deck specifically? 🙂as I imagine running it on lower end Ryzen systems could probably benefit immensely between FSR and Cachers shading lol giving the ability to run Ori on a toaster at full speed LOL
I got the Aya neo 2 , and it's hands down the best thing I've ever purchased, the screen is incredible and runs everything. I was thinking about getting this but the fact it has "hardcore gamer" on it , I decided Aya 2 was the way to go . :)

The AYANEO 2 is great, and I'm looking forward to the GEEK when it releases too. I'm hoping that it will have all the things I like about the 2 but with a lower price point.
I have been waiting for your overview! I've had my pre order in for a bit now and am pretty excited. Pretty lucky your review unit had blue LED's even if it doesn't mesh well with the orange/black theme of the rest of the device. Will they let you run SteamOS during the review period or is that a no go? I emailed them asking if I could get the white and black buttons seen on other overview videos but I doubt I'll get it. I would much rather prefer the blue LED lighting with white and black buttons instead of orange and black everything (I ordered the white version).
Great Video... I was wondering if you have tested the One Xplayer 1, I like the size f it.. at 62 my eyes need as much as they can get. I personally own (among others) the Ayaneo Slide, great device.. but to small screen
Pogo pins below are for magnetic keyboard. Btw I dont see much sense of putting that type c port below along with the pogo pins, maybe in handheld mode without the magnetic keyboard we can plug the charger or thumb drive in there? And is not quite comfortable for me if theres a usb sticking out below 😅
I agree. For these prices into the $600+ range I think id rather get a gaming laptop. For $550 or less I'd rather have a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch.
Thanks for the review Russ. HIghly capable, very serious bit of kit. And for those reasons I'm out. Give me cheap, a bit janky and fun over this anyday. Admittedly I can't afford it, which may have coloured my opinion slightly but it does seem somewhat of a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
I don't get it. Why is no one than Valve else using touch pads? These are all a non starter in comparison to Steam Deck just for that? Does Valve have some proprietary patent or something?
i want this but im scared. i ordered the 1st onexplayer and the left joystick stoped working after over a year. so they sent me a update. but it happened again in january 2023 but they didnt send me an update on support.. so i realized they have a 2 year life expectancy, or maybe he was just a jerk. but it still works great as a low powered pc, i leave it on all day to run netflix and live tv. i pluged it into a tv with wireless keyboard
I love this device and design and especially the improvements over the onexplayer, but won't get it for the same reason I didn't get the OXP and got a steam deck instead - there's no trackpads! The trackpads on the steam deck are honestly a key feature - I use them very often and simply can't consider a handheld without it. Why would you make detachable controllers and then not include trackpads as at least an option?
The legion go has one trackpad on it for simple cursor movement. I hear you and feel you in this opinion but honestly.. after switching to the OPX2 from my deck I love this thing. I just use the mouse mode or gyro for mouse movement. Sometimes I config the right joystick for mouse movement using steams controller configurations. It ain’t much but it’s honest work lol
I'm really curious about your comparison comment on gpd Win 4 and onexplayer 2. I will buy either one. Onexplayer is my top choice in terms of screen size. But I've seen people say that gpdwin4 is better in terms of performance. What do you think is the situation?
Awesome video as always. I would love to hear your thoughts on the GPD Win Max 2 and GPD Win 4. I know Max 2 is kinda pushing the hand held concept to more of laptop but I'd love your take on it :)
I think your negative points are spot on. I would love a device like this with a big screen but the Aya Neo 2 will be the one I will be purchasing instead.
Looking for ideas on a docking solution for oxp2 while using an egpu. I was planning to get a sonnet 750ex, and put a 3060ti in it. The problem I am running into is that I would like to be able to just put the oxp2 on a dock that is connected to both the egpu and power so as not to drain the oxp's battery while connected to the egpu. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thunderbolt and USB4 should both be chainable. If you get a Thunderbolt dock(with another tb port) and plug your oxp2 into that then plug the eGPU into the thunderbolt dock it should work.
@@wargamesmaster Yes I have the previous version, OneXplayer 5800u and it comes with Windows 11 preinstalled. You do need to use BT mouse and keyboard as using the touchscreen is a pain to navigate. It's massive. Detatchable controllers are a gimic that adds more cost and things to break with no benifit. In any situation, you would want to use a controller form you would mostlikly have it docked to a TV and could connect a normal controller to it by Bluetooth. This is why detachable controllers are dumb.

I canceled my pre ordered just because i got my ayaneo 2 and even though i know this would of been great i just felt the ayaneo 2 will be good until they release the next gen. This looks really cool
The AYANEO 2 is great, and I'm looking forward to the GEEK when it releases too. I'm hoping that it will have all the things I like about the 2 but with a lower price point.
Thanks for the video.
Russ is a Golden Gun Hunter. Hell yeah, brother.
How is it compared to the AOKZOE which has the same chipset with an 8 inch screen.
Only Russ would do a sound test of a $1200+ portable with a Game Boy game.
Id love to see this with steam OS installed
I think eta prime has a vid of that if I'm not mistaken fairly sure he did a steam os vid with one of the 6800u handhelds 🙂
Great Video... I was wondering if you have tested the One Xplayer 1, I like the size f it.. at 62 my eyes need as much as they can get. I personally own (among others) the Ayaneo Slide, great device.. but to small screen
I just wonder how you can change the led color from orange to blue ?
Pogo pins below are for magnetic keyboard. Btw I dont see much sense of putting that type c port below along with the pogo pins, maybe in handheld mode without the magnetic keyboard we can plug the charger or thumb drive in there? And is not quite comfortable for me if theres a usb sticking out below 😅
Thanks for the clarification about the pins, I forgot about that keyboard attachment!
I agree. For these prices into the $600+ range I think id rather get a gaming laptop. For $550 or less I'd rather have a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch.
should have reviewed this connected to TV, but yeah you didn't receive the unit that joined the detached controllers.
No Miyoo Mini comparison?
lmao the miyoo mini is like the "banana for scale" of handhelds, but we all know how big a deck of cards is right?
With the constant restock issues I didn’t want to tease people by showing the Miyoo Mini 😆
I forgot about this I’m so used to hearing about the aya neo.
crazy how much these devices jumped in the last year
Thanks for the review Russ.
Your opinion
the GPD Win 4 has a tiny trackpad on the right side
I might be patent penned but don't take my word for it, the steam controller is probably the only major controller woth mouse pad too. Go figure.
Honestly no other controller nor devices uses this. Valve is literally the only one that uses them so eh. The Aya Neo Next II might use them.
i want this but im scared. i ordered the 1st onexplayer and the left joystick stoped working after over a year. so they sent me a update. but it happened again in january 2023 but they didnt send me an update on support.. so i realized they have a 2 year life expectancy, or maybe he was just a jerk. but it still works great as a low powered pc, i leave it on all day to run netflix and live tv. i pluged it into a tv with wireless keyboard
where can I find the emulator present from minute 24:40?
That thing is a beast
Are you planing to do a review on GPD Win 4?
What game is that at timestamp 1:02
how long does the steam deck last on celeste
Nice to have that much power and windows compatibility, but for that price I rather compromise and stay with my steamdeck
Hi
How did you set the lights un Blue color????
Could you tell us how to It please ??
Which should I get? Onexplayer 2 or steam deck? I also plan of playing games from hard drives that are full of retro games.
The onexplayer 2 , you will get better battery life on heavier games at 15 watts just due to the bigger battery
I'm really curious about your comparison comment on gpd Win 4 and onexplayer 2. I will buy either one. Onexplayer is my top choice in terms of screen size. But I've seen people say that gpdwin4 is better in terms of performance. What do you think is the situation?
How loud and how hot is it? When playing and working?
None of these handhelds should be more expensive than the most expensive Steam Deck
The battery though
The bottom connectors are going to be used for an attachable keyboard similar to an ipad or surface device
Ah that makes sense, thanks Kenneth!
I have a steam deck should I make the switch and get one of these ???
Awesome video as always. I would love to hear your thoughts on the GPD Win Max 2 and GPD Win 4. I know Max 2 is kinda pushing the hand held concept to more of laptop but I'd love your take on it :)
Phawx just sent me both the Win Max 2 and Win 4, so videos for them should be coming soon :)
@@RetroGameCorps Cool to hear u two guys are so close that you support each other with devices. :)
6 hour battery life damn.
I think your negative points are spot on. I would love a device like this with a big screen but the Aya Neo 2 will be the one I will be purchasing instead.
The AYANEO 2 is a fantastic device, I need to do another video talking about how much I love it two months later.
@@RetroGameCorps Nice one…I’ll look forward to it! 👌👊
what's the point of detachable controller halves if they don't work wirelessly?
I was really hoping for the side controllers to be independent. I like my hands to be free moving.. so that's unfortunate.
I've seen others have orange LED did you get the blue LED on shipping?
I can't get 100% performance from my laptop when it's not charging, what about this? Does it work the same when not charging?😊
Would a case deal with the detachable controller problem?
Why does it say "Gaming Comput(ER) for hardcore gamers"?
GGs Russ, working people Can’t afford this but at least you’re helping the rich waste 💰😅
129 days No Alcohol 🥇🏆
Congratulations on 129 days!
can we get the full settings for destiny 2 please!?
For this device i think its better to pay a few extra caps for a 65w battery to enjoy its full performance.
Do u have a complete game list ?
Just by curiosity, can this device play ISO files of PC games?
Windows 11 will let you mount iso images natively.
@@glennshoemake4200 There's Windows 11 on that thing??? No wonder it's worth a fortune.
@@wargamesmaster Yes I have the previous version, OneXplayer 5800u and it comes with Windows 11 preinstalled. You do need to use BT mouse and keyboard as using the touchscreen is a pain to navigate. I'm using Bigbox as a launcher for everything and that works great. Since I also own a Steam Deck i use this for non Steam games and older games from ISO images
Im just waiting for that new RDNA 3 to be in these handhelds and then im buying for sure
So which do u think would be the one to get from the AyaNeo 2, GPD Win 4 and this one?
It's massive. Detatchable controllers are a gimic that adds more cost and things to break with no benifit. In any situation, you would want to use a controller form you would mostlikly have it docked to a TV and could connect a normal controller to it by Bluetooth. This is why detachable controllers are dumb.
Awesome video! Can't wait for mine to arrive... how did you change the color of the leds?
I just found your comment about it at @11:35. Interesting, all the videos I've seen from this device the lights were orange and yours is the first one in blue. I hope the retail units get a functionality to change it somehow.
Can you put a clock on that top bar?
I tried to turn On the Super Resolution at the AMD software but it did not shows any pop up & I did check in the AMD software during gameplay, it don't have the Green Tick stated the Super Resolution is running. I'm testing it on PC Games & Retrobat. AMD Software suggested 3 Resolution in order for the Super Resolution to works 1200x1920, 1050x1680, 800x1280. However I can't find the exact same resolution in the Games Setting. What should I do to makes the Super Resolution working in such a condition? Thanks in advance for your help. As always your details review is very helpful.
Is the screen portrait or native landscape?
What camera you using to record the video? 🤔
