    Never owned a Brose but test rode the two motors up a steep little offroad grass hill near my dealer and picked the Bosch on a Trek Rail just because it comes on so strong immediately while the Brose on the Levo I tried felt like you had to get going a bit before it kicked in. However after owning my Trek with the Bosch for a few months now I find that top level of assist is just too much too quick to use in any technical terrain so I have to kick it down to the 2nd highest level in order to maintain control. It's only useful on long straighter climbs or fireroads or street of course. Makes me want to try the Brose on the same technical sections to compare some day. Also on the newer Levo's at least you can adjust the power you get in each level of the Brose. Bosch will offer that soon enough but the latest model only lets you adjust the first 2 levels which isn't very useful. Still I do love the Bosch power when its safe to use it. Hopefully Brose has fixed its belt failure problems with their improved components for 2022.

    Informative video. Which is more reliable and which company offers better support and warranty service in the US?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Warranty support is definitely about equal for these guys. Both are very good. Reliability really can depend on how a specific company tunes their Brose motor. Generally, Brose is reliable. Bosch being a totally closed system is always reliable.

  • @cbenson513
    @cbenson513 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Tried the both, went with Brose. It just seemed more refined, like a next gen version of Bosch. Just as much if not more power, but smoother delivery makes it easier to work with pedaling in technical terrain, the low noise is a nice plus. Both are good though for sure.

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the weight of the corresponding systems? Are the batteries any different?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Weights are: Brose 6.39 and Bosch 6.3. The Biggest battery on a Bosch system is currently 625 wh and the Brose can have a battery pretty much as big as the battery manufacturer can make since they're more of an open system.

    We go with what's most economical. And years of riding Bosch, Brose, and Shimano, have leaned us to never substitute Yamaha's PW-X2 motor. Sure, if ya consider yourself a perfectionist, and pick-on every little thing "You," find wrong, that's okay by us. We have ridden the PW-X2 motor for an entire twelve months, straight through Winter & temperatures at 25F, and the motor is perfect. Still using the original equipped battery, with 6700 miles on both rigs, the only equipment need replacing thus far has been the tires, cassette & crankset, and once replacing the nylon gear wheel(which only saves a ounce or two!). Why is it no company makes e-bike motors utilizing Scandium or Thermoplastic, ceramic or even graphene? Since buyers can afford five-$10K for a e-bike, buyers should not be concerned of a extra couple grand for innovative material. Aluminum material (and carbon frames), are just dinosaurs.

    Is the S-mag just a name, or is it also a technical designation?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! The "Mag" stands for Magnesium which is the casing on this motor. This is significantly more lightweight than the aluminum casing featured on the traditional Brose S. The letter S is a technical designation. The S is their highest torque motor.

    Bosch screwed many of its buyers when it didn't offer the Software update for years before 2020. I now hate my 2019 Cube stereo because of Bosch and their unwillingness to increase my NM's. I am shopping around for another bike but do not feel I could trust Bosch ever again reliability or not. :-( I wonder if the people who cite Brose problems damage them from misuse? Brose uses cogged belts and Bosch uses nylon gears, both have limitations.

      I ride my trekking Brose since 10500 mls w/o issues, all seasons 10 F to 113 F. I'm still very satisfied with its realibility, smoothness and silence.
      But I saw a YT from England, 'Performance Line Bearings Brose Motor Upgrade' supposing Brose is sensitiv to water. So best clean it carefully preventing water from bearings. Perhaps this is an explanation because true eMTB riders love to clean their bikes regulary that I don't.

    hector is saying that the bosch is more powerful... but it doesn't seem to be from your test here. The Brose has a higher nM rating in fact. So, why is he calling bosch more powerful?? Did I miss something?

    • @FlyRidesUSA
      @FlyRidesUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of it comes down to the way the different softwares are designed. In the end, the torque ratings refer to the highest torque in optimal settings, so they're really only important if you can get the motor in that optimal setting. It's all a matter of preference though.

      Nox cycles that i mentioned in another post has added the new Sachs RS motor ( also a german motor ) into to their line up and it all occurred around the time that brose belts and motors were failing .
      These things can get blown out of proportion on the net but when i talk to local mechanics in germany they are less than enthusiastic . i like the bosch cx very much but since they put tuning
      detection into their software , myself and others have become dismayed by such extreme tactics .
