Here's Why The Toyota Camry TRD Isn't For Everyone - And It's Not Just Because Of The Looks

  • The 2021 Toyota Camry TRD is the cheapest way to get into a new V6 Camry. It comes equipped with some flashy plastic aero bits, sportier suspension tuning and components, and lighter weight wheels, making this sedan feel much more agile and fun to drive compared to the more vanilla Camrys. However, the TRD trim does make a lot of sacrifices, some which may completely turn you off from it.

The camry has the same V6 as the lower XSE trim of the camry but the trd has better handling. But other brands will give you twice more pleasure driving them . I have 2019 camry xle 2.5 hybrid. It turns like a cow vary sluggish and heavy . Try breaking to a full stop from 80mph , garbage breaks that overheat really easy wich is safty hazard . Clear coat is really bad quality and after year of normal washes have tons of scratches on it . Metal is vary thing and have really bad sound insulation. Im not even talking about harsher suspension compared to other brands. Plastic and leather are garbage, they squeak badly when you push or tuch it and no one talks about that .Yes it looks nice but its not thought out and feels bad. Ride quality is garbage , only people who think its good are people who driven only toyotas and hondas. That 8 speed is not even close of my 2012 VW passat smoothnes or ride quality , noice is better too and leather still looks like new in my 2012 passat that have 177k mi on it and nothing went wrong except normal maintenance . I have more pleasure and fun driving my 9 year old passat then almost new 2019 camry . Passat is not hybrid but gives me same or better mpg then camry hybrid . Even my friends kia k5 feels and drives much more premium then camry and cost less. CAMRY IS WAY OVER RATED . The reason maitnance cost more on any other car is because they have more technology , more modern and way more efficient . Toyota uses ancient technology wich wont progress much and charges fools like you and me more for not developing anything and just upgrading old stuff and call it reliable . Why arent you using flip phone or old nokia 3310 which is simple and will last you for ever then ? I also had 2000 bmw 740il which had over 220k mi on it because i do my maitnance way early then manufacturer suggest . Most people think that you just have to put new oil in every now and then and thats it . READ THE MANUAL and do everything early and you will have good experience with most cars . And yes if you want a car that wount break if you miss oil change sure buy toyota with old ancient technology, garbage interior that looks good but feels garbage and wears out fast, really bad performance and ride quality then go ahead , but dont try to justify your buying overpriced ancient car with nice candy wrap on it and call it modern good car . My 9 year old passat beats your new camry in almost any category -efficiency, ride quality, interior quality , material quality , more powerful, and i feel like more reliable cause when i was yound i had 1998 corolla manual which had transmission and wheel bearing issues around 110k mi . I honestly thinking of selling that 2019 camry and buying kia k5 gt with 2.5 turbo engine cause i really liked my friends kia k5.

I prefer the guys that design something reliable and then refine based on continuous improvement. If you have money to burn on fancy toys that break easily then this is not for you. If you want the most solid all around vehicles money can buy get a Toyota. I test drove comparable k5 and Camry bc wife dragged me out to look at the. today and u are honestly smoking crack. There's a car I can buy already that's as quick in turns as the Toyota, with the only exception being horsepower. I got the Camry TRD on order because it is a reasonable priced car considering its power, but with NA and toyota reliability. That V6 is indestructible. Only a few cars are similar in power/weight for the money, but you are going to turbo engines that won't nast near as long nor have that nice NA throttle response. Mostly though, I wanted specifically Toyota's V6 and this is the best package that has it. I don't need all the XSE bling. While some stuff might be nice, don't need it for the money. Just maybe the sunroof, but eh.

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First of all: thank you for watching!! Subaru AWD systems are different that they’re permanent and operate all the time. Whereas the Camry, and a lot of other FWD based awd systems transfer torque via an electronically controlled clutch, when needed.
      I think Subaru AWD will be better because those vehicles have been designed optimally for AWD use. Part time AWD systems are decent, but if I absolutely need AWD, Subaru would be a good first choice.

      Hey man, this car with that naturally aspirated V6 is one of the most reliable cars you can get! Its a fantastic engine, it could last you 300k+ miles! Just always remember to keep up with your maintenance! Im currently saving up for a TRD, hoping to get one within the next year or two.

    I like the look, the interior red and black I could do without....PC building destroyed that color scheme for me with quite literally every company using it until RGB became king allowing for color choice and more muted themes beyond lighting of your choosing.
    Also thank dog for no moon roof, I've never wanted one. Only time I thought it kind of cool was as a kid when I first experienced it, ever since it's been a waste of space and money, but always forced in packages.

And that camry doesn't loose power when hitting corners very fast trust me. I tested up to 120 while racing a hellcat challenger and Kia stinger. Because the camry so light and fill so planted when hitting corners hard at high speed.

    I just bought a 2023 TRD. The bottom line with the Camry 3.5 is this: People will be crying when the naturally aspirated 3.5Toyota engines go away. With proper maintenance it blow awat all others such as BMW, VOLVO, MERCEDES as a daily driver with very low maintenance and will easily run 350K miles. Not so for other cars. A reputation that cant be beat. Same with Lexus ES350 bsse or Fport.

    It would still be warranteed of you did all this yourself. The dealer has to prove what you did to the vehicle actually caused the warrantee issue, and they never can, especially when all the pieces are installed and work correctly.
