Kyle, I have an Gen II LQ4 with instead of truck intake I have an LS1 intake (for packaging purposes) and I'm concerned the previous tuner overlooked that the opening in the LS1 intake manifold I assume is smaller than the lq4 TB? Thoughts on this, should I look at adjusting the scaler?
How would a throttle plate adapter change these measurements? I'm using a gen 4 truck motor so ls1 intake but I want to use a ls3/truck throttle plate with the e38.

I have a '98 F-body, this appears to be under Idle>Airflow, listed as ETC Area Scalar. However, it says this is only for ETC fitted vehicles. The range on the field is only 0.0 to 1.0, unknown units. Since these F-bodies only came with cable throttle bodies, this process does not apply to me, correct?

I thought I left this comment on another video, but cannot seem to find it. Just an idea for a video if you haven’t done one before: I have Gen 3 that I’m upgrading to a bigger DBW throttle body. I’m unsure what all parameters need tweaked. Obviously the scalar needs done, and I’d need to retune VE based on your other videos, but there are several TB values and tables (IAC steps, for example), and I’m unsure what to tweak initially AND what I need to log and tweak after.
I realize that I said DBW and then said IAC steps, which I realize a DBW doesn’t have a real IAC....but, I do have those tables populated in my tune. Maybe they just aren’t used and all I need is the scaler to be correct?
So given the 87mm is at 4704 and you calc'd 5035, which are you going to use going forward?
I know you said on your live show tonight that the soler was still twitchy, so sounded like you havent got to dial that in yet. But if you have, was just VVE and MAF fueling and DD enough to get it right?
Did you happen to measure a stock L86 TB to see if it actually measured 4704? Be interesting to see if GM's numbers match how you are calculating. I just used 4704 when I swapped from the L83 to L86 TB.
That's what I used on the Katech, but that 4704 takes into account more area is lost due to the bar not being shaved down. I haven't measured the Soler yet but I'm guessing it's closer to the 5035. Let me hey my fuel pump sorted then I'll do a whole video on tuning the TB
What would apply using a gen3 with iac and a 92mm throttle body?
You'll be calculating scaler, this process should cover it.
How do you do this for a gen3? The numbers are completely different.
I think the scalar for a Gen 3 is equal to 100 / (the number in his video). So, you’ll end up with numbers like 0.020.
Another great video. Only thing I would like to add is to trust the measurements on the data sheet for the throttle body over your own measurements. The mechanical engineers who created the throttle body and provide the specs modeled that part out and know the exact measurements which will always be much more accurate than taking measurements with a caliper.
Doesn't often shake out that way as most aftermarket ported units are based on the stock throttle body and people just use the stock area calculation which isn't the correct way of doing it as you have changed that value by shaving the bar down which increases the surface area.
@@GoatRopeGarage You're not responding to my point. My point is, use the info on the datasheet/ cut sheet for the part. Estimating the way you did in your video is good enough to get an approximation, but the info provided by the manufacturer will always be spot on. Now if you shave something down, then that's on you at that point to measure as good as you can. I model parts for the navy all the time as I work for a navy contractor; we use advanced 3d modeling programs and I'm sure auto parts manufacturers use similar software when making their parts. You'll never get anywhere near the degree of accuracy doing what you did, not even close.
@@GoatRopeGarage after re-reading our comments, I think I see where the hangup is here. You are assuming that all throttle bodies are modified and no additional information is provided by the modifier, and I am assuming the throttle body is being made by a large manufactor and is providing data on the part. Would you agree with this? In the case of a modified parts in which no additional data is given, obviously you have to take your own measurements. I think this is the case you're making.

People are using the stock data on TBs that have been modified and they can get closer with a couple of measurements.
I swapped a factory thottle body on a 03 Avalanche 1500 5.3 for a 102mm and it ran but it wont open it throwin 16 different codes then the fuel pump shut off, swapped fuel pump now fuel pump still wont come on
Did you make sure the new one was compatible with the TAC controller in the car?

@@GoatRopeGarage wait on the e38 i am pretty sure under electronic throttle there is no max area to enter there is an opening rate table and a max rotation position which both go from 0-100% ,I think you meant under idle /airflow but which one is the 5035 value is it the Etc area scalar or Max effective area?
