How I Got A Dream Trackmania World Record

- Recently I set out on a journey to try to beat an official World Record in Trackmania Nations Forever. A competitive racing game that has been optimized to near perfection. This certainly wasn't easy... but after many ups and downs and over half a year of hard work, I finally have a story to present. This is how I got another dream world record in Trackmania.

No matter what game you’re speedrunning, speedruners will always have an ego therefore making speedrunning a pretty toxic community if you aren’t familiar with it

Bro, honestly... i am nearly 30 years old and not much of a gamer anymore, but i used to play trackmania as a teenage boy and i absolutely loved the game. The way you're sharing your fascination and dedication for this game makes me beyond happy. you're an outstanding storyteller and probably one of youtubes best, most honest content creator. I wish you keep doing what you do and make other people feel that is worth beeing dedicated and keep on doing. much love.

I love the way he puts anyone to context and makes you feel the victory. He is single handedly carrying trackmania content

Soon as I saw that horseshoe I wondered why people don't just jump up the bumps and bugslide. Seemed like a no-brainer to me. But I suck at the game so I probably would never have been able to string everything together even if I could get the slide a few times.
@@harbingerofwarx995 I think that idea comes from a lack of understanding. He isn't just ramping off the bumps and starting a bug slide, they're way too small for that. He has to precariously wobble the car along the bumps while turning the car right and maintaining its trajectory long enough to start a bug slide, which is way harder and more unconventional than just ramping off a bump to start a bug slide.
@@tainted_bread even so, I would still have probably tried it. It would have been super difficult but it just felt like there's some way to make it happen before I knew it was possible.
But then, Wirtual got... this run.

Getting to hear “the song” after some 15 minutes of calm narration is like 70% of the reason why I watch these videos. SICK record btw!
"you can afford to lose a few hundredths of a second" I feel like that statement alone speaks volumes about what level these guys are playing at.
At 300kph (his speed as he got through the last straight) a few hundredths, say from 0.02 to 0.04s, is anywhere from 1.67m to 3.33m. That's not even a car's length at worst. That's insanely close. The level they are playing at is crazy.

You should try trackmania nation forever, to play the Nations campaign, which D13 is from. It's the most iconic set of tracks of the campaign, and anyone can try to get all the gold medals in 20-40 hours of play time. I used to play this game as a kid but I only got all of gold medals recently.
You'll recognize a lot of tracks from Wirtual videos, and it's really satisfying to get that E05 Gold medal (the final track that can only be accessed to if you get all the others gold medal, and that lasts 1 hour).

I was literally thinking all throughout the video that he should use it again, that he hadn't used it in so long for any speedrunning videos and then... magic. I literally got chills, got teary eyes and jumped out of my chair all at once. Thanks, Wirt, for doing this amazing job you do time and time again.

I think I low key bought a PC because of his videos and guess what the first game I got was…trackmania.
It's a fun play even casually on the official tracks
He's got plenty more stories about world records in this game. They're super precise and interesting stuff. Highly recommend his AGDQ Speedrun of the game, he gets a really good time and explains the tiny things that make these things even more insane understandable to people that has never played it.
It’s how every non-player subs to this channel. I never knew this game existed, and now I need to know the stories behind every WR, every Track, every Cut. I now live for these mini documentaries. I crave them. If he ever starts doing Player spotlights/then and nows/career highlights/etc, I might loose my shit. Seeing the same names coming up on different tracks or wr attempts videos is strangely gratifying. Like “Ooooo I know that name, so famous” 😆

i remember playing TMNF back then on the family PC, i still have the files of that install and they date back to late 2007 - the memories. i'm amazed at just how much i've improved at the game since then

I love when you post this type of videos. It's cool that you're actually chasing and setting new world records in trackmania, but the storytelling you are able to engage in means you can make videos about any topic and make it engaging to the viewer/listener.

I don't agree. Crosshair just waited until Wirtual found a new way to be faster and then just practiced twice as long to finally beat his time
@@walkindalines He might have practiced for longer but he still got better. If neither of them ever beat each other the record would most likely have stayed pretty low since there was no urge to get better times. That's what I mean.

@@walkindalines WR aren't often held by the people who developed the optimal strategies. Usually it's the person who can execute the strategy best. In that way they pushed each other, one improving the strategy, the other executing it better, so the strategy improving again.
The only difference is that one of them is unnecessarily an asshole and the other is Wirtual.

honestly, this time I got more excited when he used music from the fantastic game "ori and the blind forest" during one of the previous, short lived world record runs. I knew it wouldn't stand because it was nowhere near the end of the video, but hearing that music outside of the games context somehow made me really happy :)

You will forever be a huge mark on the history of this track! Pulling the record down 4 tenths of a second twice! And battling with crosshairs to get over a second shaved off the time!! If there's a video made after your time, for d13 like yours for d3, you will be a HUGE name in it!

Never played trackmania but your videos are just that good to watch. My first one was you trying to get a world record on one of the Summer tracks. Just such a competitive and compelling gaming with so much technical knowledge for a game with so few keys.
I’ve never played track mania. Hell I wouldn’t even consider myself a “gamer” but I’m always hooked about your documentary style videos about track mania they are so entertaining for some reasons. Keep it up !
