I think it was mostly lip service. If he really was impressed he wouldn't go trying to "fix" shortcuts. I don't think that the creator should be able to update "classic" tracks, and effectively reset the leaderboard. Times that you earned fair and square, should not be lost, just because the track creator wanted to add one more pole to the track.

HOGE GAMING You don’t need hindsight when creating a video. Most TH-camrs will have watched the completed video multiple times while editing, all of which are times to reflect on better ways to make the video. Hindsight doesn’t apply to processes as long and intensive as creating a video.
it's a neat trick that had been already done in old trackmania movies, it consists of saving the clip of the camera and rendering two or more videos of different maps of the same mediatracker clip and then alligning them and fade them. it's used a lot in meuh's little big car which you can find in the tm-tube archive!
I'd like to see levels that encourage finding different routes with many checkpoints just scattered over a large map. I reckon it would allow for more creativity in wr attempts
I love seeing the record holders explain the story of speedrunning their game. There are so many amazing little details people who aren't among the elite would completely miss. Having a fuller understanding of the little tricks makes it so much better. I'd never seen Trackmania before youtube sent me here and I'm already getting interested in its speedrunning story. I also really liked the interaction between the designer and the runners here. Typically I would have thought leaving it to develop all the cuts and exploits which develop is better for the speedrun community, but in this case it really seems like both sides are having a ton of fun playing cat and mouse. Its just very wholesome to watch everyone come out happy as in this story.
It would've been extremely easy to prevent all shortcuts in one update... Just set the whole track one block upwards, so nobody can go back on the track, after landing on the grass...
I was never a great driver so didn't ever design particularly technical tracks but I think it would be interesting to design a track that rather than trying to stop shortcuts, actively gives many opportunities for them and just see who can come up with the most outrageous route through a bunch of checkpoints dotted around in no particular order.

I've just tried this. I'm nowhere as good as Wirtual, and for me 64 of the tracks was easy. Only problem was D11, which took hours, but I managed to do it. So I don't think whether Wirtual can do it is an interesting question. A better question would be how many medals he can get.
How is that even possible? Not all tracks are made for fullspeed, and aren't then the curves just too tight? Or are you hitting the wall then all the time?
The best TH-cam videos are just someone talking about something they are passionate about. I don't play this game, and it seems ridiculous that people would spend so much time on this, but I very much enjoy watching these videos.

Holy shoot, I remember chatting with Timebreaker about track building, driving etc. Never would've thought I'd come across that name more than 10 years after having played TMN (the game version before Forever). I guess due to my recent history involving a lot of speedrunning and racing games, the algorithm actually did a good job at recommending something fitting. Nostalgia for days.
Wirtual is such a pro at TM and such a pro at producing and narrating an informative video. @Wirtual, yes i see how much effort you put into your videos. Not sure if you produce them on your own or have some 3rd party involved. But they're great.

I don't understand the mentality behind removing shortcuts. The entire point of the game is to go faster, so if someone finds something faster than you, then it's faster. Shortcuts are fun, not a blight on a map.
