You guys should have watched the 2017 version first. It is a mess, but it does give you more of an appreciation of why people called for the Snyder cut, and how much Snyder’s vision was torn apart when Whedon was brought in. They are 180 degrees apart. Cyborg was given an actual arc in Snyder Cut.
You guys shoulda definitely checked out Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice first as well. That movie would have had you Hyped Af lol. But man this was an amazing reaction guys. And this movie wouldn't have been 4 hours in the theaters, it was supposed to be a part 1 and part 2 then maybe a third part mainly focusing on darkseid.

I'm not a huge Synder fan, and the Synder cut is leaps and bounds better then the original cut. the movie goes from being a 4/10 to a solid 8/10 for me.

The basic story of how the Snyder cut got to be released was that Snyder's daughter tragically committed suicide while Zack was finishing the movie in 2017, so he took time to leave working on the film to mourn with his family. Meanwhile WB Studios insensitively took advantage of the opportunity to hire the former Avengers director, Joss Whedon, to reshoot and radically change the film to be more colorful and add humor. Fans of Snyder noticed the difference in tone between earlier movie trailers compared to the final result of the film in 2017, and began to campaign for Snyder's director's cut of the film. Between 2017-2020 fans would run twitter hashtag trending events, charity fundraisers for suicide prevention in honor of Zack's lost daughter, flying plane banners, posting billboards around Hollywood and Time Square, fan-screenings of Zack's films, selling t-shirts and other activities with proceeds to AFSP. Cyborg's story was like 90% cut from the 2017 Version, so when we got to see this sequence of what he can do and he chose to help out the lady who was facing eviction, just wow.

I will go to my grave praising this cut of the film. I think it's absolutely terrific. I barely remembered the Josh Weiner version which was probably a good thing.
Not so fun fact: Most of this movie (save the epilogue) was already filmed before Joss Whedon came in, and he just cut out a bunch of stuff, then reshot some of it in his style. One of Joss Whedon's many cuts to the film included all of Cyborg's backstory. All of it is cut from the original film.
Cyborgs story was completely cut out of the theatrical version. They butchered this film and turned into commercial crap. Glad you guys get to enjoy this cut! It’s quite special 😁
I don't care if the film is 4 hours 5 hours 10 hours if the Creator's vision is enough to get you immersed and invested in the story and characters then it's all worth it because that is what the experience is all about the journey, nearly every extended and director cut film Ive seen has always been better than the theatrical version... disappointing the snyderverse won't continue it was the only thing I was looking forward to because I've never cared for these characters growing up except for Batman but at least Zack got his vision released in the end

The Snyder version is long but if the studios went with the Snyder version then it would have likely just been split into two movies. Which would have been even more profitable for the studio. No matter how I look at it, the decision to not have gone with the Snyder version makes no sense to me.
I remember watching this when it launched on HBO Max and the 4hrs just flew by for me. The one and only time I paused was to wrap my mind around (what I thought) was a major reveal moment, just to realize I was 3/4 of the way through the whole thing
Diana following the arrow into the wall and down to where the story was one of the most important scenes left out of the theatrical version. In that one, Diana just knew somehow.

The Flash's suit isn't heat resistant to protect Barry, it's so he has something he can wear that won't be burn up. Regular clothes can't hand prolonged super speed. Also he needs a disguise and he's a superhero created in the 50s to sell comics to 10 year old boys.

Not quite related but…Call me crazy, but visual-wise, I think Zack Snyder would make a great Mortal Kombat movie knowing how brutal and R-rated most of his movies are. Though MK is paired with WB, and I’m not sure if Zack would continue with WB and if WB would take in Zack again (even though there’s a new WB regime).
Ngl, the 2021 MK casting was pretty solid, at least for the existing MK characters. If only the script and fight scenes were handled better (fight scenes were too cut up for my liking). Hopefully, the sequel does better. Still questionable about Simon McQuoid, the director. I initially wanted James Wan at the helm of the MK movies. But I’ll give Simon another chance. Though I do want to see a Zack Snyder MK take. His filmmaking style and tone fit right in.
The movie was originally supposed to be Justice League part 1 and Justice League part 2. After Snyder had to leave and the reception of the first, they stopped after the first part. This was Snyder's original vision of both movies, combined into 1. Hence, the 4 hour run time. It's technically 2 movies in 1.
Cavill filmed this and then went on to film Mission Impossible: Fallout. Most of photography was finished and Snyder’s daughter died (i believe it was the S word youtube doesn’t like - which is why there’s things in this version like the prevention poster at the end of the scene where Bruce Wayne finds Barry Allen). Snyder did appear to be managing to finish the movie -I believe certain people at WB weren’t happy with his vision and the underperformance of Batman Vs Superman at this point, and it felt like a way for them to kick him off the project without losing face and looking the bad guys, so they could bring in Joss Whedon to re-cut and make the movie more appealing after his success with Avengers for Marvel. Whedon came in, took a whole load of the footage, rewrote scenes abd added stuff in reshoots to shrink the runtime down including credits to two hours. During this, Cavill was still filming MI: Fallout & Paramount (maybe in a way to stick it to WB) wouldn’t let him shave his moustache for the Justice League reshoots so they had to spend a fortune doing upper face acGI replacement (which was terrible). Whedon’s version underperformed anyway because frankly, it was terrible. Gave Batman loads of uncharacteristic one-liners, and completely removed any characterisation of Cyborg (who is pretty much the heart of the movie in Snyder’s cut) and reduced Flash to below comedy sidekick level treatment (when in Snyder’s version he literally saves the entire justice league and Earth at one point). Snyder eventually got to do his version, despite claims that not all his film had been filnished (it pretty much was) and he was able to do a longer version with reshoots of an added epilogue which setups what his nightmare future version would have been. He also wanted to use Green Lantern, but was forbid by Warner Bros, so instead used Martian Manhunter.
I’m so happy they released this movie, the theatrical cut was just a travesty with how much they removed. (Both Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder’s wife actually told Snyder to not bother watching the theatrical cut) Coming from a Lord of the Rings fan, the runtime means nothing to me as long as it’s a good movie, and this one is great in my opinion!
My favorite Snyder movie is also his most under appreciated. Most people never heard of it, but it's AWESOME! It's called Sucker Punch, I highly recommend it!

The best 4 hours of your life. I wish someone would have told you to rewatch the first one. It makes this one even better. I get sad everyone he says he doesn't remember. Probably should make it a point to watch after this one.
The Henry Cavill re-shoots were for the official release. When Snyder went back to put this together the only thing he had to shoot was the after credit scene. The rest was already shot. They had all this footage when they made the original.
Most of Snyder's cut was already filmed. The Henry mustache thing was about reshoots the studio did for Whedon's version to fit his vision and what the studio wanted better. Studio wanting a more upbeat Avengers type of movie. Henry's contract with Mission Impossible did not allow him to shave his mustache for the film so WB just used CGI and taped his mustache down for the reshoots and the effect is obvious and terrible so the reshoots were obvious scenes.
This was the original. It was snot reshooted. The reshoots were for the one that was released in cinemas in 2017. Zack had a cut around 2:37 or something like that to show in cinemas and then releasing a director’s cut. Also he thought about split it in 2 parts. It was never intented to have a 4 hours movie in cinemas. Now we have it because Zack had the chance to release his full version.
This is so much better than what we got in theaters. This is what DC movies should feel and look like, Dark. Even the storylines in the comics, animated movies are dark. Marvel leans toward more warmer and light and it just doesn't fit with JL. the added stuff were amazing like WW's fight scene ugh those bullet blocking thing she did! just like how she was supposed to! Cyborg's background story and that scene where he helped the mother and son, the added fight scenes with Amazons vs Steppenwolf, etc

So what happened was, Snyder shot his side but left the project when they were about to enter into the post production phase due family trajedy. The studio brought in wheddon who rewrote and also shot like 80% just to include small portion of Snyder's work to make it Marvel like. But that didn't also work either
I believe that it was originally going to be released in two parts. At least that’s how Snyder wanted to do it. But because of the situation he decided to release it all at once and he broke it up into different parts so people could watch it however they wanted. I don’t think if it was released in the theaters it would have been a full 4 hr release.
This movie wasn't supposed to be in 2 parts, it was planned to be the first movie of a Justice League trilogy. If Snyder's movie had been released in cinemas it would have been between 2.5 and 3 hrs long, not the 4 hrs we got here.
Regarding Flash's suit, his body doesn't need protection from friction or anything, Speedforce already does that for him. His mouth isn't covered for that reason The suit needs to be resistant just so it wouldn't burn up so he doesn't run around naked x)
Hell yeah man! Glad you guys are watching this one. Regardless of what everyone thinks of the DCEU as a whole, what almost everyone can agree on was that this version is the better version and what we should had gotten back in 2017. There is so much content and lore that was changed, edited or reshot at the time due to both Synder's daughter dying and the beef with WB Studios. Almost everything here is perfect! The relationships with the characters are more engaging here. Almost all of the characters had their chance to shine in one form or another. Particularly with Batman, Flash, Superman and Cyborg. Especially with Flash and Cyborg most of all. We were robbed seeing what they can really do and understanding their backgrounds. They are much better here. Aquaman and Wonder Woman got some good upgrades here as well. One of my favorite parts was Steppenwolf. I am still in total shock and awe of how cool and badass here was this time! Dude did NOT mess around. His armor was so fucking cool and unique! I loved how its basically alive in a way and it reacts to whatever mood he is in. Plus, his characterization is much better this time as well. He deeply regretted what he did by trying to screw over his nephew and all he was trying to do was come back home to be with his family. I felt so bad for him.
Snyder didn't reshoot, studio did it with josh version. Snyder already completed the movie except for cgi work and did minor reshoot only to add some post credit kinda of scenes to give fan a taste what would be his justice league trilogy like.
The movie is 4 hours long because it is the Snyder’s Cut version, which is streaming on HBO Max to attract subscribers so as well as including all the images that he shot that he liked, according to his vision. If the studio didn't interfere, the film could be cut short to 2.5 hours or closer to 3 hours for a theatrical run by cutting out the unnecessary storytelling and slowmo scenes. This is a completely different movie to the Joss Whedon Theatrical Version, both in Story and Tone. Cyborg's backstory is one that got cut which was a huge disappointment on the studios part bc it was labelled the heart and soul of Snyder's version. Also the stuff they did with Flash (When ya'll get to that part), Much better than what they gave us in 2017.

Zack Snyder already finished 90-95% Production of the Justice League for either Two Parts or 4 Hrs long. The only remain left were Post Production - Special Effects, Sound Mixing, Music, Editing, Coloring, etc. That's when Zack Snyder's daughter - Autumn died of Suicide and forced Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder (Producer) to take emergency leave. The WB and DC Films Top Executives took over Zack Snyder Justice League to rush the Post Production and added scenes of Joss Whedon style changing dialogue, storyline, composer, special effects team, for premiere Justice League for Thanksgiving Holiday month without Zack Snyder, yet claim to be 100% from Zack Snyder. Count your lucky stars you never saw the theatrical release. Tonally like night and day - I can never forget the first one no matter how much I try. While there are a few part in this I find 'questionable', overall the story is so much cleaner with needed back story and Zack's firm hand.

One example of how little the studio cared about the original cut was that Batman goes from being completely clean-shaven in the next scene to having a full beard that looks like it took them a month to grow

yeah its kinda funny. the Dawn of Justice ultimate cut had the deleted scenes added in on 4:3 but this whole movie is a deleted scene so the whole thing is 4:3. but really its cause Zack Snyder shot it in IMAX and filled the whole screen with the characters but didnt wanna cut anything out in post production because of how beautiful it just looked
At first I thought it would be just like the editing revision, reframe, recut, adding deleted scenes from previous movies. But after I watched it, it looks like they almost reshoot 80% of the movie

While I have some issues with the Snyder cut, I think watching both versions is a masterclass in filmmaking. You get to see how changing just a little bit of editing, changing a musical cue, basically SMALL changes, can drastically alter a scene. Comparing both versions really shows what competent filmmaking looks like compared to... whatever the hell happened in the 2017 cut.
Small?. The Theatrical cut had monologues with still images as background almost every time a character was on screen, with new dialogues to make the movie 'funnier'. You should watch that again, I think you don't really remember that cut and you're just assuming they are identical.
The knightmare sequences arent dreams ,they are the future timeline glimpses bruce gets to have bcz flash messed with time,that future was gonna be explored in the sequels where darkseid kills lois to make superman vulenrable so he can control him using anti life equation ,thats why flash was trying to say lois is key in bvs to prevent the knightmare timeline from existing ,so batman would save lois n sacrifice himself giving time for superman to rescue lois ,all this was revealed by zack during a fan screening.
Just answeing one of your questions. This wouldn’t have been a 4hr movie originally. It would have been around 3 hrs, just like BvS. But Snyder pretty much knew that this would be his last movie with DC, so he went through a lot of story that would have been a part of JL part 2. We could have had a 3 part epic if WB had kept some patience. P.S. delete the theatrical cut. Burn it with fire. Remove it from eternal memory. This is the only way to watch a Justice League movie.
Other than the Justice league cartoons that I still love I do enjoy that Zack managed to make one movie about the whole team without much build up lol but happy he finally got his story out, he originally left the directing cause his daughter died so Joss Whedon had to come in & re did everything Zack did. ive heard somewhere that if the flash was real, whenever he used his speed i dont remember if it said it would create a black hole or a nuclear explosion but it was one of the two. i dont remember which one or why.
A much better version and it's worth the four hours. Fun factoid - The cop at the memorial played Jimmy Olsen in the original Superman film. No CGI horses were hurt in the making of this film.
Had they allowed Zach to bring his original vision into fruition, the theatrical release could have been two parts just as Marvel did with The Avengers finale. But that’s what happens when you have bean counters making decisions best left in the hands of creatives.

I agree this is very long, but this is a directors cut of them film. Directors cuts can be typically this long. I’m pretty sure there was suppose to be a theatrical release of the film, which was between 2 to 3 hours in length. Zack was saying that it felt wrong not to release the directors cut because of how long they have been asking for the zsjl to happen

nah the film was in production at Warner but Zack Snyder's daughter Autumn passed away so Zack wanted some time to grieve with his family so Warner fired him and reshot the movie with Joss Wheadon (overly mediocre director) and the 2017 film was Joss Wheadon's version of the movie that the Zack illustrated. and all this time Zack was at home making this movie outside his house, in his driveway, on greenscreen, going to locations to film and stuff because he felt like he owed it to himself and to everyone else and you can really see how he used the production of this film to cope with his loss but AFTERALL, Warner owns the licensing to the Justice League so he couldnt release it to the world without being sued even though the film itself and everything else belonged to him. So eventually warner folded and Zack was allowed to release his passion project on Digital over at HBO Max
Don't worry, The Badgers won the very next year. That flashback took place before Batman v. Superman, and in that movie Gotham loses the game. Victor/Cyborg wasn't there to play the game, because at that time he was presumed dead after his car accident.

Between 2017-2020 fans would run twitter hashtag trending events, charity fundraisers for suicide prevention in honor of Zack's lost daughter, flying plane banners, posting billboards around Hollywood and Time Square, fan-screenings of Zack's films, selling t-shirts and other activities with proceeds to AFSP. The fan-campaign reached fever pitch by Nov. 17th, 2019 when the JL cast publicly joined to support the fan's campaign on social media, and on the following day the WB studio execs called Zack to make a deal on releasing his director's cut of his Justice League film. Zack and his production team, the Stone Quarrey, worked for around 6-months on visual effects to finish the film before it was released on HBO Max on March 17th, 2021.
This movie is a testament to glorious auteur visionary film-making, the perils of studio executive's meddling, the passion of fans, and ultimately a memoriam for Zack's daughter who was lost to suicide. This is more than a just movie.
Cyborg's story was like 90% cut from the 2017 Version, so when we got to see this sequence of what he can do and he chose to help out the lady who was facing eviction, just wow.
I didn't understand why cyborgs part was so short, he's my favorite. Then I saw Snyder's cut and was blown away!

Not so fun fact: Most of this movie (save the epilogue) was already filmed before Joss Whedon came in, and he just cut out a bunch of stuff, then reshot some of it in his style. One of Joss Whedon's many cuts to the film included all of Cyborg's backstory. All of it is cut from the original film.
Cyborgs story was completely cut out of the theatrical version. They butchered this film and turned into commercial crap. Glad you guys get to enjoy this cut! It’s quite special 😁
I don't care if the film is 4 hours 5 hours 10 hours if the Creator's vision is enough to get you immersed and invested in the story and characters then it's all worth it because that is what the experience is all about the journey, nearly every extended and director cut film Ive seen has always been better than the theatrical version... disappointing the snyderverse won't continue it was the only thing I was looking forward to because I've never cared for these characters growing up except for Batman but at least Zack got his vision released in the end

The Snyder version is long but if the studios went with the Snyder version then it would have likely just been split into two movies. Which would have been even more profitable for the studio. No matter how I look at it, the decision to not have gone with the Snyder version makes no sense to me.
Oppenheimer was dumb long and arguably less interesting than ZSJL, but nobody complained there.
I remember watching this when it launched on HBO Max and the 4hrs just flew by for me. The one and only time I paused was to wrap my mind around (what I thought) was a major reveal moment, just to realize I was 3/4 of the way through the whole thing

The reshoots were for Joss Whedon's Justice League. That's why it was so different from Snyder's JL.

The Flash's suit isn't heat resistant to protect Barry, it's so he has something he can wear that won't be burn up. Regular clothes can't hand prolonged super speed. Also he needs a disguise and he's a superhero created in the 50s to sell comics to 10 year old boys.

Not quite related but…Call me crazy, but visual-wise, I think Zack Snyder would make a great Mortal Kombat movie knowing how brutal and R-rated most of his movies are. Though MK is paired with WB, and I’m not sure if Zack would continue with WB and if WB would take in Zack again (even though there’s a new WB regime).

Ngl, the 2021 MK casting was pretty solid, at least for the existing MK characters. If only the script and fight scenes were handled better (fight scenes were too cut up for my liking). Hopefully, the sequel does better. Still questionable about Simon McQuoid, the director. I initially wanted James Wan at the helm of the MK movies. But I’ll give Simon another chance. Though I do want to see a Zack Snyder MK take. His filmmaking style and tone fit right in.
The movie was originally supposed to be Justice League part 1 and Justice League part 2. After Snyder had to leave and the reception of the first, they stopped after the first part. This was Snyder's original vision of both movies, combined into 1. Hence, the 4 hour run time. It's technically 2 movies in 1.
Cavill filmed this and then went on to film Mission Impossible: Fallout.
Most of photography was finished and Snyder’s daughter died (i believe it was the S word youtube doesn’t like - which is why there’s things in this version like the prevention poster at the end of the scene where Bruce Wayne finds Barry Allen).
Snyder did appear to be managing to finish the movie -I believe certain people at WB weren’t happy with his vision and the underperformance of Batman Vs Superman at this point, and it felt like a way for them to kick him off the project without losing face and looking the bad guys, so they could bring in Joss Whedon to re-cut and make the movie more appealing after his success with Avengers for Marvel.
Whedon came in, took a whole load of the footage, rewrote scenes abd added stuff in reshoots to shrink the runtime down including credits to two hours. During this, Cavill was still filming MI: Fallout & Paramount (maybe in a way to stick it to WB) wouldn’t let him shave his moustache for the Justice League reshoots so they had to spend a fortune doing upper face acGI replacement (which was terrible).
Whedon’s version underperformed anyway because frankly, it was terrible. Gave Batman loads of uncharacteristic one-liners, and completely removed any characterisation of Cyborg (who is pretty much the heart of the movie in Snyder’s cut) and reduced Flash to below comedy sidekick level treatment (when in Snyder’s version he literally saves the entire justice league and Earth at one point).
Snyder eventually got to do his version, despite claims that not all his film had been filnished (it pretty much was) and he was able to do a longer version with reshoots of an added epilogue which setups what his nightmare future version would have been. He also wanted to use Green Lantern, but was forbid by Warner Bros, so instead used Martian Manhunter.
I’m so happy they released this movie, the theatrical cut was just a travesty with how much they removed. (Both Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder’s wife actually told Snyder to not bother watching the theatrical cut)
Coming from a Lord of the Rings fan, the runtime means nothing to me as long as it’s a good movie, and this one is great in my opinion!

The Henry Cavill re-shoots were for the official release. When Snyder went back to put this together the only thing he had to shoot was the after credit scene. The rest was already shot. They had all this footage when they made the original.

Most of Snyder's cut was already filmed. The Henry mustache thing was about reshoots the studio did for Whedon's version to fit his vision and what the studio wanted better. Studio wanting a more upbeat Avengers type of movie. Henry's contract with Mission Impossible did not allow him to shave his mustache for the film so WB just used CGI and taped his mustache down for the reshoots and the effect is obvious and terrible so the reshoots were obvious scenes.
This was the original. It was snot reshooted. The reshoots were for the one that was released in cinemas in 2017. Zack had a cut around 2:37 or something like that to show in cinemas and then releasing a director’s cut. Also he thought about split it in 2 parts. It was never intented to have a 4 hours movie in cinemas. Now we have it because Zack had the chance to release his full version.

This is so much better than what we got in theaters. This is what DC movies should feel and look like, Dark. Even the storylines in the comics, animated movies are dark. Marvel leans toward more warmer and light and it just doesn't fit with JL. the added stuff were amazing like WW's fight scene ugh those bullet blocking thing she did! just like how she was supposed to! I believe that it was originally going to be released in two parts. At least that’s how Snyder wanted to do it. But because of the situation he decided to release it all at once and he broke it up into different parts so people could watch it however they wanted. I don’t think if it was released in the theaters it would have been a full 4 hr release.
This movie wasn't supposed to be in 2 parts, it was planned to be the first movie of a Justice League trilogy. If Snyder's movie had been released in cinemas it would have been between 2.5 and 3 hrs long, not the 4 hrs we got here.
Regarding Flash's suit, his body doesn't need protection from friction or anything, Speedforce already does that for him. His mouth isn't covered for that reason

Hell yeah man! Glad you guys are watching this one. Regardless of what everyone thinks of the DCEU as a whole, what almost everyone can agree on was that this version is the better version and what we should had gotten back in 2017. There is so much content and lore that was changed, edited or reshot at the time due to both Synder's daughter dying and the beef with WB Studios.
Almost everything here is perfect! The relationships with the characters are more engaging here. Almost all of the characters had their chance to shine in one form or another. Particularly with Batman, Flash, Superman and Cyborg. Especially with Flash and Cyborg most of all. We were robbed seeing what they can really do and understanding their backgrounds. They are much better here. Aquaman and Wonder Woman got some good upgrades here as well. One of my favorite parts was Steppenwolf. I am still in total shock and awe of how cool and badass here was this time!
Dude did NOT mess around. His armor was so fucking cool and unique! I loved how its basically alive in a way and it reacts to whatever mood he is in. Plus, his characterization is much better this time as well. He deeply regretted what he did by trying to screw over his nephew and all he was trying to do was come back home to be with his family. I felt so bad for him.

This is a completely different movie to the Joss Whedon Theatrical Version, both in Story and Tone. Cyborg's backstory is one that got cut which was a huge disappointment on the studios part bc it was labelled the heart and soul of Snyder's version. Also the stuff they did with Flash (When ya'll get to that part), Much better than what they gave us in 2017.

Zack Snyder already finished 90-95% Production of the Justice League for either Two Parts or 4 Hrs long. The only remain left were Post Production - Special Effects, Sound Mixing, Music, Editing, Coloring, etc. That's when Zack Snyder's daughter - Autumn died of Suicide and forced Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder (Producer) to take emergency leave. The WB and DC Films Top Executives took over Zack Snyder Justice League to rush the Post Production and added scenes of Joss Whedon style changing dialogue, storyline, composer, special effects team, for premiere Justice League for Thanksgiving Holiday month without Zack Snyder, yet claim to be 100% from Zack Snyder. Count your lucky stars you never saw the theatrical release. Tonally like night and day - I can never forget the first one no matter how much I try. While there are a few part in this I find 'questionable', overall the story is so much cleaner with needed back story and Zack's firm hand.

yeah its kinda funny. the Dawn of Justice ultimate cut had the deleted scenes added in on 4:3 but this whole movie is a deleted scene so the whole thing is 4:3. but really its cause Zack Snyder shot it in IMAX and filled the whole screen with the characters but didnt wanna cut anything out in post production because of how beautiful it just looked

While I have some issues with the Snyder cut, I think watching both versions is a masterclass in filmmaking. You get to see how changing just a little bit of editing, changing a musical cue, basically SMALL changes, can drastically alter a scene. Comparing both versions really shows what competent filmmaking looks like compared to... whatever the hell happened in the 2017 cut.

Small?. The Theatrical cut had monologues with still images as background almost every time a character was on screen, with new dialogues to make the movie 'funnier'. You should watch that again, I think you don't really remember that cut and you're just assuming they are identical.
The knightmare sequences arent dreams ,they are the future timeline glimpses bruce gets to have bcz flash messed with time,that future was gonna be explored in the sequels where darkseid kills lois to make superman vulenrable so he can control him using anti life equation ,thats why flash was trying to say lois is key in bvs to prevent the knightmare timeline from existing ,so batman would save lois n sacrifice himself giving time for superman to rescue lois ,all this was revealed by zack during a fan screening.
Just answeing one of your questions. This wouldn’t have been a 4hr movie originally. It would have been around 3 hrs, just like BvS. But Snyder pretty much knew that this would be his last movie with DC, so he went through a lot of story that would have been a part of JL part 2. We could have had a 3 part epic if WB had kept some patience.
P.S. delete the theatrical cut. Burn it with fire. Remove it from eternal memory. This is the only way to watch a Justice League movie.

I agree this is very long, but this is a directors cut of them film. Directors cuts can be typically this long. I’m pretty sure there was suppose to be a theatrical release of the film, which was between 2 to 3 hours in length.

nah the film was in production at Warner but Zack Snyder's daughter Autumn passed away so Zack wanted some time to grieve with his family so Warner fired him and reshot the movie with Joss Wheadon (overly mediocre director) and the 2017 film was Joss Wheadon's version of the movie that the Zack illustrated. and all this time Zack was at home making this movie outside his house, in his driveway, on greenscreen, going to locations to film and stuff because he felt like he owed it to himself and to everyone else and you can really see how he used the production of this film to cope with his loss but AFTERALL, Warner owns the licensing to the Justice League so he couldnt release it to the world without being sued even though the film itself and everything else belonged to him. So eventually warner folded and Zack was allowed to release his passion project on Digital over at HBO Max
