    In this movie's defense of practical, is that Mark Ruffalo's character is FBI. So he has been working on this for maybe a decade. He has a lot of influence and help. So it's possible. Morgan Freeman's character was explaining how it could have been done and the showing his explanation wasn't how it actually was done with all the details. These magician movies gave me an appreciation of how much a trick can be intellectually thought out. Another of my favorite is The Illusionist. The mastering and devotion of years of planning a good trick. Wow amazing. 😮

    • @rugr82day
      @rugr82day ปีที่แล้ว +7

      True and one of the things that makes it easier to accept that Mark's character would be the one to take the case was because he set up every act for them to follow. The holographic information and blue prints in the beginning of the movie were all his. So it's easy to believe that he's smart enough to arrange things inside of the FBI so it suits his needs. Even if it meant hacking the system and creating his own assignment locations. I haven't seen The Illusionist before, I'll have to check it out.

      Hypothetically hypnosis is real, as it’s an outside influence trying to make your subconscious take over, 90% of your Brian and thoughts are subconsciously ran. But if the conscious 10% doubts hypnosis, it won’t let the subconscious take over. Essentially you already had a to be a pretty submissive person for hypnosis to work.

      A psychiatrist (ie, somebody who is a licensed doctor) once told me that hypnosis has similarities with being in a trance. Another example of an altered state are sleep walkers.
      I don’t think anybody doubts that sleep walking is a real thing. Also getting worked up such that you get into a trance, is something most people probably would accept as being real. I do believe that hypnosis is real, I am just not sure how easy it is to achieve, in particular if somebody doesn’t want to be hypnotised. Ditto for how altered that state really is. It might often be not much more as daydreaming.

The locks were removed and protective glass panels were installed to prevent new locks being added. We were told to hold out our arms and pretend one was holding books and the other had balloons tied to our wrist and Everytime hed tap our wrists they double in count. We were conscious through this given a safe word to break the hypnotism too and while it seems to be controlling it's more suggestive and partly dependant on the personality of the person being hypnotized comfortable with relinquishing control.

    The Mark Ruffulo reveal in this movie is delicious and devious. The set up for the reveal actually is so much like real magic tricks.
    From the foreshadowing of a long awaited revenge plot with the Lionel Shrike tree and the story of how he encased a card in glass and grew a tree around it so that he could eventually perform that trick. To the amazing reveal of his character's motivations in the same scene that his mysterious partner is performing a card trick to keep you focused on her instead of the actually magic trick happening somewhere in the scene (the dialogue). Even to his grade-A deception of everyone else in his life and job to make sure that they never have a reason to look his way. Ah its so good!

The writers also didn't want audiences to feel cheated by a cliffhanger if part 2 never got made. So they filmed the 1st part as if it was only going to be a solo story & went all out to make the characters & pacing as good as possible, knowing if you hook that audience into loving the characters & story then response would definitely be good enough to help secure financing for part 2. Now it seems they're talking about a part 3. I'll definitely watch it if they do make it, because 1 & 2 were fun. They make you think a little, but mostly it's just entertainment.

    I’ve never been hypnotized but I did attend to a huge live magic show once.
    Joe Labero, a Swedish magician who actually had some shows in Las Vegas during the 90’s. He was really good, I sat completly dumbfounded most of the time.
    Watching magic on TV you always think there some editing but seeing it in real life is so impressive!

    With fun well fleshed out deep characters.

    I have both movies on DVD. I love to get most movies on DVD because of all the extras. One of the extras is an alternate ending. Instead of the park scene. They drive out to a place in the Nevada desert. Were all the old Vagas signs have been stored. It helps to set up another movie.
    Diamond DAVE, you are right about not knowing if they would be able to make the second movie at the time of releas. But they still made the alternate ending just in case they did make the next one.

    Hypnotist came to my college for a show and I volunteered to be hypnotized. It is one hundred percent legit, he spends about 5-10 minutes putting you into a state of deep relaxation and then you are under his spell. It’s kind of like being drunk in that you are capable of saying and doing things you normally never would and you have no memory of them. For me, I don’t dance, I have no rhythm but he had me doing the river dance on stage and my friends insisted I nailed it!

    when it comes to suspending your belief, you guys talk about how they'd somehow have access to all the bank accounts but you have to keep in mind the audience was all people who had tressler insurance, meaning the horsemen could get access to all their accounts through Arthur since it was his insurance company

    While not 'Oscar worthy', we need more original films like this. Sadly the sequel brought nothing new and 'shouldn't have' given the concept presented in this first one. There's nothing wrong with one and done.
