      Agreed. Why do all the dresses have all that extra material? It just looks ‘heavy’ and (IMO) not flattering. And there are 10,000 ball gowns - the one the consultant picked was ugly (but not all of them are). At least you can’t see her belly button indent in the one she chose.

      I do not like satin - not just b/c it is "old." I never liked satin when this was filmed in 2012, nor at any other time. Also, Kristy is short-waisted & Allison kept pulling dresses with wide belts that negatively emphasized this.

    • @ReneeOfTheFae
      @ReneeOfTheFae ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Or, if someone wants to offer to help pay they should be doing it because they want to help, not because they need to control some facet of someone else's big day. My fiancé and I are completely funding our own wedding, aside from three lovingly offered contributions (which were offered, not requested.) Of those three, not one of them has said they need to be a part of a decision. Two of them are even just giving us the cash and saying, "Use it on whatever you need to use it on." That's how it should be - no strings attached.

      EXACTLY! I think her mom is stuck in the idea of who Kristy was at some point in her life. The thing is, it seems a lot of mom's don't get that their children change. Children aren't little dolls that stay the same and never grow or change as people. Honestly, it's an issue I deal with from my own mom regularly. We didn't talk for a period of 5 years a decade ago, and in that time I did a lot of work on myself. No matter what, though, I'm still the me I was way back when I was a self-absorbed tween. Didn't matter that we had a relationship and I had even changed a bunch before our split, I'm still the same kid I was when I was 12 as far as she's concerned. Point is, some mom's really struggle seeing their children as the people they've become (for better or worse), and assume their tastes have also remained the same. So, when they don't like something, instead of just coming out and saying it, they pin it on this fixed image of who they knew decades ago. That person, and those likes and dislikes don't exist anymore. People need to own their own opinions. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk. *steps off of soapbox*

    I hope that young woman can distance herself from her abusive mother after she’s married. This is why I did not involve my mother in the planning of my first wedding. Way too much opportunity to be critical and mean spirited. We were students and had very little money. My father gave us a few hundred. We held it at the student center with a female minister. We chose a western-ish theme and I made things like flower arrangements in mason jars for each table. We served the best barbecue in Austin at that time and had an amazing banana cake cooked from scratch by a European trained chef and friend. My father in law brought a lot of wine. My mother criticized everything and some if my other family members behaved like jerks. Everyone else said it was the best wedding they ever attended. My second marriage of now over 30 years was very simple with only friends attending. A lot less stressful!

      They’re all afraid of mommy-my siblings (male and female) are terrified of ticking off our mom, who is 92. Truth is they’re afraid of getting cut off and out of her will. It’s ridiculous…I’m always the bad guy but I don’t care anymore at 59 and it feels great. Respect for a parent is one thing, being terrified of them is just wrong. Live!

    The bride-to-be had a beautiful figure she worked hard for. I just did not like the dress selections the consultant pulled for her. Christy did not need all that rushing on her dress. Her figure could hold itself in. I feel Gok or Randy, or even Monty would have found her something perfect.

    I do not understand why mothers who are paying for the dress insist that the bride must pick the one that mum likes….utterly selfish imo….if I end up paying for my daughters wedding dress she can pick and wear whatever she wants…it’s her day, it’s her dress and it’s her decision and I would never make her wear a dress that I picked out for her if she didn’t like it just because I’m paying for it!!!

    • @4legs4paws55

    If you're buying someone a wedding dress, it's a gift, and you shouldn't get to judge their choice. Also, let's normalize buying your own dress and making your own decisions. If you dress yourself every day, you can dress yourself for your wedding. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    When I was dress shopping with my mother (yes, in the last century) I tried on one that she just loved. I knew it would look ridiculous on me, but I wanted Mama to see it. She took one look and said “oh my God! Take that off!” 😂😂😂 Nobody cried, no hurt feelings. I trusted her to be completely honest and not let me make a fool of myself. When I put “my” dress on, we both knew it was the one. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. It wasn’t about Mama controlling the appointment or my dress choices. It was about love and trust.
