    I love buying trucks in the winter, then having to wait months to really run them hard. I bought both the Maxx & Sketer in the dead of winter. I've only ran the Maxx so far. I didn't have to deal with the crappy electronics since I got it as an used roller, so it had much more reliable HW stuff in it from the start. I'll never run Trx stuff in my cars. As for problems, both bulkheads & the center diff area can end up caked with dirt, sand, water, ice, & snow. That stuff gets inside & seize up bearings. Dry weather or not, stuff gets inside. I've had that problem with every Trx car I've owned including the X-Maxx, Slash, Stampede, E-Revo, & Maxx. I've cracked the front bulkhead in the Maxx twice - & that's the only thing I busted on the truck, but it is a major teardown. I hear almost no one talking about this problem with Trx cars, maybe to not incur fanboy wrath or whatever. Whatever the case, I never had this problem with any buggy/truggy style car. This is also why I will never rate a Trx car over them. I can't ignore issues that actively destroy the rig. Btw, I've also had the same problem with the Arrma 3s line & the Redcat Blackouts from long ago, so it's definitely a plastic car thing more than a brand issue.

      What you think of the sketer so far mega? I'm really impressed with mine even though I haven't been able to run it yet. Seems like an overly built tank and can't wait to run it.

    • @Megasty15
      @Megasty15 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cwatson42785 It's a beefcake. We have over a foot of snow & the streets are ice. But I might have to take something out there soon. It won't be this though. The bumper feels like it can rip off & the wheelie bar is too long but I can deal with both. It's definitely the most overbuilt thing I bought in a long time. I still would of put the longer hubs, larger tires, & the 6s system so it can have more overhead on 4s.

      @@Megasty15 Yeah I agree about the larger system and longer arms to have it a bit wider but it's definitely a tank! Yeah im in the northeast so I'm close to you so I feel your pain! It's almost all melted but now it's flooded and soggy. Definitely not running it in this mess lol. Do you plan on doing what razor did and widen it out a bit? I got other rcs that can fill that itch so I think this will be good as is. Just gonna gear up and maybe some day put a longer can motor and max8 esc in it and like you said run on 4s. But it's definitely a tank! On a side note I finally ordered the 24mm extenders for my reeper and have some 8s backflips I ordered ready to go on it! I might order some dgi extenders for my dbxle and might get some 8s backflips for it as well. Make it like a monster desert buggy 💪👌

      @@cwatson42785 I already have the axles & hubs ready, just have to put them on. I have the 6s system too but I want to give the 4s system a go 1st, hopefully it doesn't blow up. With the Cen, with the backflips I cracked the rear diff case right at the input. Wrecked both the ring & pinion. That was with the K8 motor on 6s. I switched out both diff cases to aluminum, best upgrade for the truck.

    • @joseCalderon1976
      @joseCalderon1976 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update. After 5 months, I find that even though the Sketer can break some stuff easier, the parts that it breaks are "way easier" to replace compared to the Maxx V2. I keep breaking upper and lower bulkheads regularly on the Maxx V2, which are not easy to change. How ironic 🤷. I honestly prefer them Sketer. Way cheaper too. The Maxx had to go to like $1k with upgrades and the price of the truck, and the Sketer doesn't need upgrades. Just better tires and bigger pinion. You can even use Arrma upper abs lower control arms, for better durability. Rod ends too.

    The Maxx is a great looking truck, fit and finish is top notch, it's extremely durable and has amazing parts support. It should be a recipe for success, at least over a new truck like the Sketer. Unfortunately, performance and handling leaves a lot to be desired! Not to mention, Traxxas' stubborn refusal to listen to the consumer and address issues identified with their vehicles (while still charging a premium price tag), annoys the hell out of me 😡 Still, what it comes down to for me is I want a driver's vehicle and every time I find myself coming back to the Sketer! Guess what my next 4S monster truck will be?!

    If you want the best just go tekno. The mt410 is the best rig on the market by far. Although I'd may be categorized as 1/8 scale. Otherwise I'd say the maxx is good rig, I don't see corally as real competition for the traxxas line. I think Corally still has a lot of design issues to iron out. That said being in hobby over 30 years you can't compare the precision performance or driving capabilities of a design "buggy truggy" thats been the best for the highest skill drivers. @@knowair6767 I learned this lesson this winter . Idk good plastics are better than cheap metal . The arrmas traxxas plastics have a rubbery to them. I've snapped or bent metal on the kraton and truggified typhon this winter a couple times . With the cold whatever materials they cheap out on " pot metal" im sure quality or hardend metal be stronger usually
      . Stupid stuff like pin holds shock in the arms . But you think the shock end or arm would break 1st my point is plastic RC's can be forgiving but don't drive as well . If you forced the maxx to be competitive with truggys it wouldn't be as strong but on rtr the maxx has so much flexibility.

    Nice comparison! The Maxx needs more competition in the 4S MT space, after Arrma stopped producing their 4S lineup after only one year, the Maxx had the market all to itself. It seems like Traxxas is always starting a new trend, then competitors try and catch up - we saw it with the Slash and the X-Maxx, and now the Maxx barely has any competition.
    Just curious if you would consider adding a new category to your reviews called Features? The Maxx has TSM, self-righting, clipless body, and training mode. Don't know what the Sketer has except the programmable ESC. Some features might be gimmicky, but some of them are really nice to have. Self-righting has saved me countless walks of shame with my Traxxas trucks lol.
    I'm still waiting for my Maxx 2.0 to be shipped. I'm more of a basher and there are no tracks nearby, so durability and parts support are priorities to me. It's no fun taking out your brand new truck at the start of spring, breaking a part, then having to wait until fall for it to come back in stock ugh.

And besides the xmaxx I don't see any trends they have really started tbh. And to the contrary so many of their models are outdated and from like a decade ago. Now love them or hate them arrma is the company that has been starting the trends with other companies like traxxas forced to produce new models. That's the way its been playing out the past 3-5 years anyway. Edit: oh I forgot about the udr which I'll give them, but look at what other companies like arrma and losi have come out with the past 5 years and I don't think there is much comparison

By today's standards, it's somewhat weak but I've held onto it for all these years and still enjoy running it..but not "sending"..
      RIP Wondertiger..

  • @garrymunyack5872
    @garrymunyack5872 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The maxx is the king of rtr 1/10 scale with durability and performance. This sketer looks like the closest attempt yet. Kaiju, Arrma Redcat all fail with their comparable rigs. But this thing looks tough and fun. Nice truck

    • @joseCalderon1976
      @joseCalderon1976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? So why do I keep breaking bulkheads on the Maxx?? That's a mayor weakness. I also had to replace the front and rear hubs with aluminum ones since I kept having issues with those. I also had to replace the crappy plastic driveshafts, esc and reciever. I'm like $1k into the Maxx V2. The Sketer has better electronics, handling, steel drivershafts stock, and the body doesn't fly away like the Maxx. I had to buy a roll cage so that I stop destroying the Maxx body. Oh yeah, the sledgehammer tires are weak AF. Just saying.

    Do you ever do actual driving comparisons just talking about it isn't really a full review amd doesnt show what they can do going up against each other if anything these kinda videos steer people away cause you're not doing a side by side driving comparison which makes it difficult for people to really see what they can do.Team Corally all day

    Well said Razor....Maxx is for the younger kids or rich yuppie who wants to just go throw money at a hobby shop and spend 800$+ on the truck, batteries and charger and walk away with a truck to go run. while the sketer is for the hobbyist who looks for a great deal and great performance out the box is my outlook on it.
