I like how he managed to take just the right elements of "Thing from Another World" and make it a movie poster: humanoid monster in the polar tundra, not vampire carrot monster.

Drew Struzan is a kick-ass artist and an utter badass. There's a great documentary about him called "Drew - The Man Behind the Poster." Really worth checking out.

They actually got a full green screen awhile back and just add the corners back in in post.

I coincidentally watched this film for the first time the day this video was uploaded. It was absolutely brilliant.
Whichever one the alien was, they could just explain the appearance by saying "well that's what happens when the thing assimilates you" either as an explanation that the thing doesn't age or that the thing ages really quickly

What makes it even weirder is that the poster fits with the ending due to the fact that no one knows if Childs was a "Thing" at the end. It makes you think that he WAS turned.

The Thing is one of my all time favorites. The chest paddle scene is probably the only movie scene that made me audibly react in shock and disgust.

here's an idea, what if they're all infected by the point of the blood test scene, but they all didn't know since the Thing isn't the hiveminded sort, and the guy who's blood reacted poorly to the heat was kicking himself for not thinking to use what uninfected blood he had left(or just making some uninfected blood).
not only that, but it would also explain why Macready had them all tied up sitting so close together, cuz he knew one of the others was also infected and wanted to use that moment to get everyone infected, but it didn't go according to plan, because everyone was infected but only one didn't think to use spare blood.

I love the idea of Kurt Russel having a deformed face due to frostbite so much that I would rather have that as an explanation, also an explanation due to why Keith David's face isn't deformed is due to the fact that he IS THE THING. Honestly, I just hate the explanation of "the thing escaped AGAIN" it would be so much more interesting to see people slowly realizing that Childs is the thing and that the thing has learned that switching from body to body would cause alarm so it now only uses 1 body (Keith David) until around the end. And yes I know there is a theory going around that he is the thing due to the fact he drinks from a supposed Molotov cocktail at the end of the movie and that Kurt Russel tricked the thing or at least knows he is the thing because of that, but honestly you can just integrate that into the sequel. (or even a bigger twist, Kurt Russel is the thing and we are being tricked into thinking Keith David is the thing)
If you want to know who is a thing and who isn't at any given point in the film, there's a trick. According to one of the actors, it's in the lighting, or more specifically, how the characters' eyes are lit. If you can see light reflected in them, they're human. If not, they're a thing. I haven't rewatched it yet since hearing that, so I can't confirm it for sure, but it sounds feasible.
Want to hear something amusing? As a child, and still to this day, ET scared me more than the Thing.
