“Why do they always put the weak points in the heart and brain areas?” - the same reason we evolved to have them there in the first place. Those are the two most readily and easily protectable parts of hour body. You’ve got a skull and a rib cage, you can move your head, and you have arms that can impede attempts to hit you. As an experiment, try protecting a different part of your body as if that’s where your heart/brain are located against someone trying to give it a solid hit. It’s *much* harder to do.

Cars are almost built to break down and need repairs, that's why newer vehicles have parts that take specialty tools that have to be fixed by the dealership or you can pay ridiculous amounts of money on the tool to fix it yourself. They know that people will have to continue to pay to keep the vehicle they just bought running. A company like skynet would put all of its resources into these terminators to make them run for as long as possible and probably why they are also programmed to fix themselves if damaged.

Sarah Connor stored the weapons in that coffin, so it stands to reason that she would have reinforced that coffin in some way. Possibly to even endure after the bombs dropped. Also, in Genesis Arnold does shoot it with a shotgun, but not to put it down. He's a distraction to get it within range of the depleted uranium tipped round fired from a 50 CALIBER sniper rifle. The cops in Terminator 3 also only really have small arms fire. They're all in front of him too btw. (9mm caliber weapons)

My head canon is that Skynet secretly won, and whole time travel war was just an experiment on humans, in order to know them better. Because Skynet's final goal is to create a peaceful human world, eventually (at any cost).
You can throw in stuff, like humans somehow can create alternative realities during time travel, and machines cannot, so experimenting with it makes sense for Skynet. Complete knowledge of humans is necessary for completing its goals.

Couple of valid reasons for why robot "vital organs" are in the same places as with humans.
With the T-800, the chest is the biggest, thickest piece of the body. If your robot is restricted to a humanoid shape as the T-800s are for stealth and infiltration, then the most well-protected place for something like a nuclear power source is the chest. The computer chip is tiny and so if the rest of the head is basically solid, that's pretty safe in the centre too, but you probably wouldn't want to put it near the nuclear power source for overheating purposes.
Plus, you want your computer chip to be near your sensory input devices like cameras, radar, etc (which should be in the eyes if the robot wants to mimic humans because if you're going to have something that looks like an eye anyway and has a hole for light to get in through, then that's the perfect place to hide a camera) to process data as quickly as possible, and also as equidistant from your appendages as possible to maximise coordination.
Also, the warmest place in the body? The chest and head. The warmest part of a terminator? I'm willing to bet it's the nuclear power source (chest) and the computer brain (head), so they'll more easily blend in with humans on thermal imaging this way.
And as for Jaeger's, the head is also the thing humans will most instinctively protect, and the most important thing to keep safe in order to survive, so it makes sense to put the pilots there, since their instincts will drive them to protect that head and therefore themselves more than any other part of the Jaeger.

A lot of the reasons for the T-800, T-850, T-888 difference is to explain why the endoskeletons produced by for different series/movies are not identical if they are “mass produced”. Also as the model 101 was explained away after T-2 as being the shape of the living tissue, and that there were other variant numbers of the T-800 that did not have Arnold’s appearance.

I found the T-800 perfectly frightening in the first movie. It was covered in human skin, could emulate humans - barely. It was also an unstoppable killing machine. _“It Doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!”_ That's what Kyle Reese said. But by the time he said that the T-800 already demonstrated that. Perhaps most incredibly to me as a kid which further illustrated the point was the "oh no he didn't" police station scene. Police today are seldom respected, admired, and not particularly feared. But in the 1980s they were at least feared. For the average citizen the police staton was as safe as Fort Knox. The T-800 simply walking through the place mowing all the cops down with impunity like a first person shooter gamer in God mode proved a shocker.
T2 was entertaining but the idea of a Liquid Metal Terminator, despite the special effects, just didn't quite have the same believability.

#1: the "gun" used to disable the "original" T-800 in Genisys actually used specialized rounds to punch through the chassis. Basically, it's not exactly something you'd find in a gun store. They were also prepared and were waiting for the T-800 to show up.
#2: the shotgun "Pops" used was to basically just goad it into attacking him. Kinda like throwing rocks at a bear or bull.
#3: The T-850 in Rise of the Machines had its armour chassis further reinforced and hardened, especially against Resistance plasma weaponry. Basically, if the original T-800 was a light tank, that thing was a heavy tank.

"Is it really that difficult to kill a human?"
It can be. It can also be really easy. The fact that Skynet doesn't employ any sort of gas, chemical weapons, or poisons shows that it has no capacity for creativity.
a creative machine would just use silent drones that shoot fentanyl darts at people, or explode into a cloud of fentanyl powder. Imagine a machine the size of a hand grenade swoops down from the sky, and as it's about 10 feet over the heads of its victims, it explodes into a cloud of highly poisonous powder, or identifies exposed flesh and shoots a dart with a powerful toxin into that flesh.

It should be noted that in the original Terminator movies and the canon books T-800s are mostly resistant to .50 cal munitions and weapons. They can be disabled or destroyed with a lucky hit ofc but it's much harder to do so and in most cases the shot won't do anything to them aside from knocking them back and putting a much bigger dent in their armor from other, smaller caliber weapons. In books specifically written or supervised by James Cameron the resistance soldiers aimed for eye sockets of T-800s with their .50 cal sniper rifles because their eye sockets were the only parts of T-800s which could be consistently penetrated by .50 cal bullets. It wouldn't make sense for their armored chassis or their head to be fatally vulnerable to .50cal bullets as they are plentiful today. In the canon books though T-800s were vulnerable to 20, 25 and 30mm cannon rounds and a single round of those could disable them or potentially even destroy them. They were also vulnerable to repeated fire from the .50 cals, such as Brownings and other heavy machine guns. T5 and T6 are garbage and T5 isn't even canon.

You know sometimes when they prototype new things they sometimes make it slightly larger. Imagine if they bought in the mountain (I can't remember actors name) to portray said prototype.
