In addition to that, the BBC has at least some duty to represent British history, culture and has had long associations with the state & royalty.

Dolly Parton has a charity in the north east of the UK that gives kids books so Im glad the BBC let her film it from her house as she is all about getting kids reading. What a Babe.
She does that in the poorer areas in the U.S. as well. The reason behind that was because her father didn't learn how to read, and it's very common in these areas for people to be illiterate. Just asking him to pick up certain items from the store becomes harder. Like instant pancake mix he mixes up with bisquick because it has pancakes on the box, or cottage cheese instead of sour cream, or get fat free sour cream by mistake(ff sour cream is awful!!!) What we do now is i look up individual pictures of each product needed that I know he will have trouble with. Then I text the pictures to him to use as a guide. If he is unsure he takes a pic of the item and texts it to me for a yes or no.

I think Donald would actually work pretty well as a one time story teller. He has such a distinctive and unusual character, as flamboyant as a cartoon. Like a real life Scrooge McDuck. As for the seediness, he is not even in the ballpark of many of the historic titans of BBC/British broadcasting. He is no Jimmy Savile. So I don't think that should matter.

As an American, I can confirm that not all of us could've named as many states as Nisha just did (41 in total by the end of the video for an 82% success rate, very well done). I do believe that there are American's who would've missed some of those states mixing them up with the capitals or other major cities in those states.

When I was a kid in the 80's there was something similar on.the BBC called Jack-a-nory and they had Rik Mayall read George's marvellous medicine and they even had Prince Charles on it.
Looking back I remember storymakers and Danny John-Jules used to read stories on that show, I remember I used to love when he read stories. Imagine my suprise when I first saw Red Drawf. I know he's famous for being Cat but I love him for being on story makers when I was a toddler, its such a strange way to be introduced to that actor. TLDR I love cat from red drawf because I listened to him read bedtime stories as a kid.
I personally think that my absolute favourite dream choice for a Bedtime Story would be Sigourney Weaver reading a story at Halloween on how nice aliens (no, not those aliens) and ghosts can be. Just imagine for a second, you're five years old, your mother and father who are just average parents with far too much time on their hands are about to take you to bed, you're watching television, and this woman who's six feet tall sits down with a book and says "Why hello there. I'm Sigourney. Have you ever been worried about what lives out in space or things that go bump in the night? Well I've got a story to turn your worries into happiness." I would burst into tears with a gesture that adorable.

Imagine if Raiden from Metal Gear or Senator Armstrong comes up to you and he says "Hi, I'm Jack" or "Hi, I'm Steven" while this guy who's like 6'7 and built like a truck offers you a handshake. Or the Heavy from TF2 says "I'm Misha" in that voice. This entire concept is one of the most surreal experiences one can imagine, let alone live through
