I love the idea of the helicopter pilots being spotters for the mecha drivers and getting front row seats to the kaiju battles.

Except they weren't spotters at all lmao. They remained completely silent during this scene even though they could have followed Otachi and kept Gipsy apprised of the situation.

What I love about Gipsy Danger, and the rest of the Jaegers in this movie, is that every part of them is a weapon much like what the Precursors did with the Kaiju. Hands, feet, even the coolant gas. Unfortunately, this was missing in that fan film that came after.

The thing is even if the second movie wasnt the best sequel or the best movie ever. It is still what it is, giant robots vs giant monsters. Now I do agree it should have been more like the first with the weight and such. But at the same time its alright to have floaty and quick mechs. Now I may be bias because I did enjoy the second movie, but I also like mech anime like Gundam and Aldnoah.Zero, Code Geass, etc. So I am used to floaty and fast mechs.
@@ArchVolt Gundam and Code Geass are great anime. But they work because the mechs are just under 20 meters tall, with the largest mobile suit being the same size as a Jaeger (Psycho Gundam, Destroy Gundam, etc) Their speed is still proportionate to their size. Even if we use Evangelion as a basis, it still wouldn’t work because Evas are biomechanical aliens that could break physics. Jaegers have no such ability.

TBH, the humans could have given their mechs some proper melee weapons, only the Chinese had that mostly useless spinner. Even Gipsy Danger's Sword is kind of less than what it could be if it can equipped with massive Javelins and a proper two handed sword.

The smash move by Otachi at 3:13 is probably my favorite move in the whole movie. Super brutal, CGI on it looked amazing, music and sound were perfect. Just an awesome moment.
Otachi was the best monster in the movie. Even though there was a Level 6 Kaiju later on, Otachi's toughness, tenacity, creativity and aggression were top notch.

Facts. Otachi beat crimson typhoon effortlessly and had the clear upper hand against cherno alpha with its acid before the sneak attack, and on top of that it very nearly beat gypsy. Easily the best feats of all the kaiju minus maybe slattern tanking a nuke.

You know, having watched this as a kid/teen when it came out, and now having watched Neon Genesis Evangelion/End of Evangelion as an adult, the similarities, or rather what I perceive as references to this love letter to Japanese mecha and such in general, is astounding.
Honestly, this is still one of the best movies I’ve seen.
It's more of a reference to old Japanese shows he watched like Ultraman (him still being a fan of it till this day)... but then again Ultraman also heavily inspired EVA.
the best part at 2:30 when they were spraying coolant is that it’s implied that Raleigh took solo control of the Gipsy again so that Mako could activate the coolant, it was a small detail in the movie that was never really acknowledged, but it was really cool to see them do
So nice of Gipsy to spare that overpass at 1:37 while completely destroying pretty much everything else. 😂
Tryna cause less damage to the city, the roads can be patched up easily but the overpass and stuff take time and more tax payer money. That’s why they take the fights mainly in the ocean but in Uprising they throw 20 skyscrapers onto one Kaiju

The point here is MINIMIZING damage, keeping the damage as low as possible whilst dealing with a threat that will likely cause far more damage and far more deaths
You say that but skipped over the part where they used a freighter as a weapon. Like, what was Gypsy gonna do if they beat Otachi with it? Put it back in the water?
Now I kinda understand why there are some people who hated the Pacific Rim Uprising movie. It lacks that mechanical feel in the giant mechs.

Particle effects like these have been very common since CG got really good in 2007, and this movie came 6 years after that
The CG, the cinematography, the lighting, the animation, the score I mean GEEBUZ, this movie punches so far above it's weight you'd think it was an art house flick!!!!.....

Fortunately if you look at any jaeger they specifically dont damage anything they dont need to
Doctrine for Jaeger is minimized all damages, not wreck everything like on Uprising so beside the cargo hauler, some shipping containers, 2 or 3 buildings without anyone inside it will make recovery quick.

I wish the Legendary Godzilla franchise gives this much weight and scale to their monsters…it’s just so good,they utilized showing just how big they are in every beat of a scene,from the camera shakes of every step, the slow yet consistent action, to the crushing of cars when getting up, worm’s eye view shots,to trees reacting to footsteps.
They did a good job showing the Jaegers from a relatable POV as seen when Gypsy passes each building and when it tapped that Newton physics thing. Even the sound design is amazing,you hear the heavy metal creaking when Gypsy walked over the shot when he skipped that overpass.
Godzilla '14 definitely feels very weighty, but people didn't like that so they went into the crazy comic direction that the franchise is at right now.

They put the kaiju next to skyscrapers for a reason. They had a 318ft tall ape looking like it was 750ft tall in some scenes
I love every mechanical sounds when it walks. Hopefully we will get a sequel soon.
Well, some movies don't need sequels, and as we've seen in recent times they tend to cock up with sequels. I, for one, am glad that Pacific Rim did not get a sequel, ever, and hope it never does.

As much as I love these action cuts I'm also so glad the movie didn't do it. The cuts to the cockpit of the Jaegers just humanizes the fights and makes it so much better
that Boat had more Plot armor than the entire Jager team in Uprising

what i love in this fight is that you can see, that yes, jeagers are destroying stuff, but they are trying to make the damage as low as possible
The first film is the best.
The weight, the feeling of the machine, and the feeling of hitting are all the best.
From the second episode, it became too light and the unique weight feeling disappeared too much.
Does anyone else notice that each Jaeger acts and moves with body language and personality entirely of their own, separate from what we see the pilots do? Rewatching this, I noticed that Gipsy Danger especially seems to have a personality of her own, demonstrated entirely in body language, which doesn't fully match either pilot. Small detail I noticed that gives so much more unique flavor to each of the jaegers and really makes them feel like more than just machines.
i always really wanted Otachi to win, my favorite kaiju in the whole movie.
she was intelligent, fast, strong, aggressive and most of all, fucking BEAUTIFUL!

A sequel would have been amazing, even better than the first, alas t'was not to be.
If I had a nickel for every time we had a giant monster fight in Hong Kong in a movie by legendary pictures and Warner bros, I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Why didn't Gypsy use the sword/blade from the start?
too much blood splatter, kaiju blood is basically toxic for humans
Raleigh likely wasn't aware of Gypsy's refit during there newest deployment as he wasn't fully briefed unlike Mako, hence why she knew before he did.
Also it's more of an ace in combat because Kaiju can learn from battle, had the sword been used constantly the Kaiju would easily be able to learn and counter.
Example being when Gypsy used that massive ship as a melee weapon, the Kaiju took a couple of hits and then went for a counter using its tail, it learned to counter attack, same could happen if the sword was used frequently.

As much as I love these movies, it always fucking kills me that they don't start the battle with the God damn sword and insist on melee combat.
I had the same problem with Voltron cartoons in the 80's and Power Rangers in the 90's :D
I believe it was explained elsewhere but a Kaiju's blood here in PR is EXTREMELY toxic, if not heavily polluting. That is why generally Jaegers are expected to kill them by brute force, and cutting them is the final option if need be, simply because these Kaijus' blood are so damn toxic that it actually hurts the environment even further, lol.
There’s reasons for that. The kaiju learn, and if they could win without the sword they’d have it as an ace in the hole for next time. It’s also implied that Raleigh didn’t know the chainsword had been added to Gypsy’s armament after her refit, but Mako did.

@@JannyPwns The plasma cannons were part of Gypsy’s armament the last time he fought in her, as is demonstrated in the opening scene of the movie. As far as I know, the sword is new. He might not have known about it, since he and Mako were still “working up” Gypsy after the refit, suggesting he hasn’t been fully briefed on her new capabilities and modifications.

2:00 is the only point the cgi was obviously fake/unbelievable in the whole film. When gipsys fist goes through the building to touch the newtons cradle it should have gone through the floor too but doesn’t seem to have caused any damage to the floor when it is pulled out despite being in the floor.

The most painful part of this movie was humans using weapons for thousands of years because we can't fight animals with our hands, then Pacific Rim comes along and....cuddle wrestles? OH NO WAIT @6:45 YOU HAD A PLASMA BLASTER ALL ALONG?!?!
They explain early that the Kaiju adapt to each weapon that they throw at them, so they conceal their weapons and use them essentially for kill shots only. Which is why the extendable arm blade is never mentioned or used before this. In the next fight it doesn't do nearly as well against the Kaiju they go up against.
@@FredrickTesla then keep making different weapons, like humanity has done every time humans adapted to what was being used against them. Also, they thought building a wall was a great idea so, I guess suspension of disbelief?
Also for the most part, they have to stick to blunt force weaponry, because kaiju blood spills basically destroy the area forever, which is another reason they don't use their weaponry that often. And there's only so much you can evolve weapons when you don't know what kind of threats it might face, all these weapons have to be versatile

That is WAAAY harder to do when your enemy can Essentially Create counters about 50x faster than you can create new weapons
Think about how many Kaijus has been sent to earth compared to how many Jaegers have been made to Exterminate them and you'll see why its essential
They try to minimize the amount of kaiju blood is spilled around the city as in the leatherback fight if gipsy used the plasma blaster earlier on it would of spilled tons of kaiju blood in the water so gipsy using it in an area that can be controlled and kaiju blood is probably toxic to humans so they try to just use physical ways of killing or hurting them
